How can you rate this beautiful, accessible park any less than as good as it gets? Nicely laid out with a generous parking area by the restrooms. A good way to put those in your mind for then, and for later if the need arises. They are clean and well maintained. This was late summer in early September. Trees were still full and green. Water was running, but not gushing. We missed that deluge by a week and now things had calmed down and the grounds were fairly dry. Mild weather, so off we went. A number of trails, some looping and others out and back. We took the longer out and back and most of that walk are captured in the photos accompanying this listing on Yelp! Just beautiful. We did encounter a few obese people who had tried the walk, but had to turn around. Handicappers would have difficulties with the stone steps carved out along the trails, so be mindful. There are some steep, but manageable sections. Lots of look outs and places to just pull over from the trail so you could rest &/or allow other groups to pass you. Photo opportunities abound and many people either asked us to take a photo or offered to take ours. A nice park seems to draw nice people. No refreshments other than a few water fountains near the parking lots. Need to bring your own water on the trails. There is a swimming area, but we did not use it on this trip. We did years ago with our sons and it was pretty neat to swim beneath the falls and to walk the rocks sometimes behind the falls. Vehicle admission was $8. read more

This is probably one of the best state parks NY has to offer. They have camping, public swimming, picnic tables, and lots of trails. You go for the waterfalls though! There are 12 sets of them in this one park. Starting with the Lower Falls near the entrance ($8, but you can use your camping pass, state park pass, or if you pay at another park that same day it is valid). The Lower Falls are where you can swim, and are more easily accessible for those traveling with families, strollers, or elderly. The Rim trail is exceedingly more challenging than the Gorge trail, which is about 1.5 miles. If you start at the Lower Falls, I highly recommend pressing on and doing the gorge trail, where you can get to the Lucifer Falls on the other side of the park. The Lucifer falls are 115 feet high, and breathtaking. At the end of this trail, there is an old Mill museum. There are some people that go in the gorge, but this park I choose to wear my actual hiking boots, or quality sneakers. They won't get wet like some other glens. This is a beautiful state park and I think not as popular as the nearby Watkins Glen which is an added advantage! ;) For best rewards while hiking, start your hike at the upper falls which are truly spectacular and then you can hike a part of the gorge and return by crossing a bridge over to the other side, probably a one mile round trip. For a longer hike (4 miles), you can continue on to the lower falls. Be warned though, there are a fair amount of stairs which make for a good workout. But the hike is beautiful and the lower falls are also worth seeing. If you're in the finger lakes area and need to burn all those extra calories after days of binging on wine and cheese, this is a great place to do that! :) read more

Definitely worth a stop. Amazing waterfall and scenery. Not as many tourists on the trail as I thought there would be. It seems like everyone just parks themselves at the swimming area and doesn't budge. If the swimming doesn't interest you, I suggest approaching from the other side (north entrance?) and hiking down the falls trail that way - a lot less people on that end, and there's plenty of scenery to take in. Parking was $8 and good all day at the state parks. Swimming area might be a little tough to find parking during primetime, but we didn't have any trouble anywhere else. read more

This is a beautiful state park with great trails to choose from. We took our dog and went on the gorge trail to Lucifer falls. It was an amazing hike with wonderful views and waterfalls along the way. There were signs warning that it was a difficult trail, so we were a bit worried because we aren't very experienced hikers and it was our first hike with our dog. The first quarter mile was uphill and it was a bit of a trek, but that was the hardest part. The remainder of the trail wasn't bad at all and had nice openings out onto the water where our dog could cook off in the water. I would highly recommend this park. read more

Gorgeous pari, beautiful waterfalls and scenery. There's a significantly steep portion so be prepared to hike a bit if you want to get to the top. Alternatively, you can park at the top and then walk down and have someone pick you up at the bottom. The old sawmill at the top is also very interesting. read more

Quite frankly, this is one of my favorite State Parks period. I grew up at this park, spending most of my childhood here almost daily during the summer and just had the opportunity to come back and camp here with my daughter so she could experience it. My dad was a lifeguard here and it is where he met my mom. So enough of my nostalgia, let's get down to details. Very few electrical sites, this is old school camping. Think old school family camping when you were a kid. Huge campsites with most of them well shaded. The bathrooms are large and I loved that they had a large cast iron sink with a large shelf next to it so you could bring in your dishes, great for those not in a giant RV. Nice centrally located playground for the kids. You can also rent small camping cabins as well. Very rustic and quaint, love 'em! Now on to the swimming area. It simply doesn't get any better than this. A short walk from the campground or the main entrance parking lot, and you have a large swimming area. And not just any average swimming hole, but a swimming hole flanked by a beautiful waterfall that you can swim up to. Literally one of my favorite places to be. Once you become bored with your peaceful campsite and swimming up to the waterfall, you can take one of several hiking trails. The Gorge trail is the one to do. A little over 2 miles which will take you to 'Upper Treman' where you can take a rest and tour the Old Mill. The Gorge trail is a good hike and a great way to take in some serious natural beauty. Whether it's the beautiful stone bridge across the gorge, watching the water flow over small waterfalls throughout the gorges or taking in all of Lucifer Falls, it's some breathtaking scenery. Great place to hike! This state park is located in Ithaca, home of Cornell University and Ithaca College. I prefer to park my car in the Lower park (Rim Trail), that way you can hike all the way to Upper Park (Gorge Trail) then back to Rim Trail, and then reward yourself by heading to the pool. Take your time, do rush (otherwise you will fall and get hurt). I've believe it's about 4-4.5 mile loop, plenty of spot to rest (bring water and snacks). You may also fish and camp there. read more

This park is amazing to hike or swim in! I came here with a few friends on a hot, hot, hot day. We heard rumors that there was a rad swimming area with a waterfall and we were not disappointed! The swimming area is divided into a diving deep water section (with some folks doing laps and others diving) and a shallow water section. There's a waterfall that runs off right into the deep section. The water was a little chilly, but very refreshing. The 3 of us dove in and were acclimated to it fairly quickly. You can swim right up to the waterfalls and run the water down on your face. It is so cleansing and incredible. The entire swimming area feels so surreal. The only downside is that they close it up at 7pm! Ahh. I wish they would allow you to swim-at-your-own-risk after they close. Who needs lifeguards to enjoy nature? That is one of my pet peeves, but what can you do? I haven't experienced the rest of the park, but would love to hike up some trails some other time! Highly recommend coming out here! read more

CAUTION: IF u hike from the upper to lower entrance via RIm Trail (vs Gorge Trail), be sure to stay on the right side of the trail going up halfway through the trail instead of taking the more narrow spur trail going left and down which dead ends at the creek. we made that mistake and wished there was a sign there! Overall it was a nice moderate hike w plenty of steps in between. if u cant hike much just see the fall at the lower campground (which u can swim in) and the Lucifer falls driving in from the upper entrance. The fall along the trail is smaller. $7 entrance ticket is good all day at any state park! Go check out nearby Buttermilk falls which is less than a 5 minute drive. read more

What a beautiful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Came to Robert H Treman State Park last Saturday on a whim, having never been in Ithaca before, we heard it was a beautiful place for hiking so off we went. The most difficult thing about this park was where to actually park. Our GPS took us to a spot on the middle of the road, we ended up driving around in circles for quite a while trying to locate an entrance, there are multiple ways to get in here. It cost us $8 to park our car and enter the park, however the $8 pass allowed you to go to any parks in Ithaca for the day so for us, it was a fine deal. Used the bathrooms right at the beginning of the trails, which were clean enough. The trails were absolutely beautiful, lots of greenery, streams, waterfalls, and the bugs weren't bad at all. Didn't get one bug bite the entire time I was hiking and didn't use any bug spray. So much to look at, great photo opportunities, lots of cute bridges and places to stop and swim. The people on the trail were so friendly, people with young kids, elderly folk, all kinds of people and you can bring your dog! People were courteous to get out of the way for fast walkers (us) and some people used the trails to run. Anything goes here. It was quite a workout, we were sweating on some of the staircases and our hearts were pumping. Bring water and stay hydrated, that is a must here! We checked out the swimming hole and it was incredible! I've never seen anything like it, it was like a private hidden swimming pool, naturally made, the coolest thing. Lifeguards, people on the grass with their towels sunbathing, people jumping off the diving board and others swimming in the shallow end. It was a totally cool place to hang out and enjoy the afternoon. We didn't swim but if you get the chance to, bring your suit and hop in, such a cool thing to see and enjoy. We did two trails here, totaled about 5 miles and then went to the next park. I'd highly recommend anyone looking for a beautiful workout to come here and check the place out. read more

We have been here twice, once in the summertime and again this Fall. First time we did the entire hike. It was a moderate hike filled with many waterfalls finally leading up to the best one, Lucifer Falls. The falls will always be more spectacular depending how much rain they get that year. If you just want to get to the best part and skip the long hike you can park at the upper parking lot and do the short loop that takes you to Lucifer and back again. If Ithaca's got one thing going for it besides Cornell, it's the abundance of natural wonders. If you've got time, most definitely take that 15 minute drive (and it's a really nice drive) from downtown Ithaca to Treman and hike away to your heart's content. It took my group 1 hour 19 minutes to hike the Gorge Trail and Rim Trail at a moderate pace. We had ranging ability but there were also many photo breaks in this time calculation. The waterfalls along the hike were beautiful. Late October is great time to see a variety of leave colors, there is a particular gorgeous view of this on the Rim Trail. The hike itself was challenging at some point but not over challenging. I say it's good for those in moderate shape no need to be a triathlete or advanced rock climber to take these trails but if you can't handle elevation changes this might not be the stroll for you. Highly recommend checking this out if you in the area, worth the trip for sure. read more

Might be my favorite spot in NY! You can swim up to a waterfall. Most of the area is shallow, making it great for the kids. As you get closer to the waterfall, it gets deeper (15 ft). This time of year makes me miss Upsate NY so much. The weather is getting beautiful in NY and the State Parks are just waiting for me to hike them and walk the gorges. This is just one of the State Parks in Ithaca that has waterfalls and endless hiking trails with watering holes all over the park. If you ever want a great place to vacation in the summer got to Ithaca and check out all the State Parks. I am missing them as I type and may just look for a cheap ticket and enjoy the falls and visit family. I have camped at this park many times and it is one of my favorites. The watering hole has a waterfall that dumps into the pool of water you are allowed to swim in (we always walk the gorge and swim in all the creeks along the way also). They also have a diving board and also allow you to climb the rocks at the bottom of the falls. Some other water falls are Ithaca Falls and Buttermilk Falls to name a few. We spent a three day weekend on this state park. We stayed in one of their cabins (#5)........a commendable camping ground and a recommended state park to visit. Reasons: 1. The cabin sites are steps away from the Lower Falls. The cabin is very reasonable for the price. Has 4 cots , 4 dressers and a refrigerator. We enjoyed the bench in the front porch during night time. The place is Peaceful and quiet. 2. The RV sites are a short distance from the Lower Falls but has easy access to the rim trail. 3. The tent sites are close to the central shower room and the main office/parking lot where the start of the gorge and rim trails are accessible. 4. The Lower Falls( Enfield falls) has huge water basin that is desirable for swimming, has diving boards for use, guarded rail for the safety of non-swimmers, has lifeguards on duty ( weather permitting), the swim area has safety identification line and marker , there are change rooms nearby and has an amazing view and swim access of the falls. 5. Gorge trail from Lower Falls to Lucifer Falls is 1.75 mile and another 0.75 mile from Lucifer to Upper entrance. Staircases are steep. It is considered moderate hiking trail for those who are used in doing trails. Going back down, it is suggested by all to take the rim trail to get the best of the park . If you think the trail will be hard for you, you could drive all the way up to the Upper entrance via the Enfield road. Just like what we did. We checked in late and we don't have much time to spend so we decided to do a little cheat. When we were at the top, we went down by 1 mile and go back up after seeing the Lucifer Falls (which is one of the highlights of the state park) and all the good things in between (like the famous stone bridge of the gorge trail) 6. On top of the park , there is an old mill to visit. 7. Parking fee is $7 and as campers, the pass is usable to any state park during the entire stay. 8. We used our empire passport pass so we did not worry about the fee. 9. No admission fee after 5 PM. 10. Playground, picnic area, shelter area are some of its amenities. read more

Review for campground: Beware when choosing a campsite since some of them are really close together and do not have any privacy. Each campsite has a maximum of 6 people, but my neighbor had 8 people staying there. The group of 8 was very loud and the park staff was made aware of the noise and extra people and did nothing. The park staff said since they were in their terms a "nuclear family" they were permitted to have extra people. We asked if we could move sites, and we were told no because all sites were booked. We asked for a refund for our final night and once again we were met with a "no". On top of that, we had our firewood stolen from our campsite and were told there was nothing they could do. I am very disappointed with this state park. They made no effort to remediate anything, so I will not be returning. read more

I absolutely loved hiking here. The trail is so neat in the sense that it literally brings you around all of Lucifer falls. You get to see it from the base, the top, all sides and various heights. I was in awe throughout the entire hike and most of the guests seemed interested in the swimming area so despite going on a beautiful Sunday, the trails were not too crowded. People definitely take their time at each of the waterfalls so it's each to get space between yourself and other hikes. read more

This is a great park outside of Ithaca that you must visit if you're into hiking, nature, gorges, waterfalls, seeing trout swimming from 50 feet up, and fresh air that smells faintly of pine and awesome. Tony is right when he says there are some steep climbs, usually on stone steps of some kind. It's not a long hike, but at times could be a little tough on the little ones or if you're just out of shape. It's really nice though, well worth the trip. I saw the Enfield falls here around late 8pm and we didn't have to pay for parking! This was the 3rd waterfall I saw and I was still amazed. Waterfalls are one of the treats for your eyes. Plus factor- you get to dive and swim! read more

Up-state Ny for all the parks and falls withn hours of each other,, this one was yet another beautiful park , trails and views.. the stairs are steep and wide thou. But beautiful views.. also seen two snakes I played a lil with, . One I'm 50-50 on what is was,, but the other was just a baby rattlesnake, 6-8inches. Literally almost stepped on him.. visited quite a few parks and falls over last year or 2. and 1st time seen any snakes , NOT A BAD THING, lol. Camped at this state park in October with the family. The weather wasn't great but it is a beautiful place and the camping facilities are well kept and very clean. The hiking is accessible directly from the campsite on the walk up the gorge provides perfect viewing for all the waterfalls. Cannot wait to return next summer. During the peak season the swimming pool at the base of the waterfall just by the campsite is open. We camp just with a tent and in my view the pictures in the main field area may get a little bit too much sun during the height of the summer and so try and go for the ones sheltered by trees. These are a little bit smaller but can easily accommodate a tent and a car. read more

Definitely a great place to take a hike. Beautiful waterfalls and pools. There is a swimming area with lifeguards in the upper end of the park. You have to exit the park to get to the lower side, however show your parking ticket and re-enter. Make sure you check out the trail map and make sure you can handle the steps. Follow the gorge trail to Lucifer Falls. We had limited time so we were unable to explore more of the park. read more

What a cute park. My boyfriend and I with our two dogs camped here for a weekend. The sites were a decent size but no privacy between the sites. The bathrooms were so clean and new. They even had areas to plug in hair dryers with full mirrors and shelves. There is only one shower house so that walk isn't the best. I suggest if you bring dogs to come prepared. The ground is just rock so there is no way to screw cork screw chains into the ground. Also there is no grass at the sites for dogs to use the bathroom on so when they pee it forms a puddle instead of seeping into the ground. We went on a few potty walks to the playground where there was grass. We also did the big trail walks and the dogs loved it. Just be cautious the paths are small so be prepared to step aside without falling down a hill. read more

No swimming today, Friday, July 24th in the park possibly due to rain yesterday?? We were also there Thursday July 23, 2020. The Rim trail is VERY difficult if you are not a seasoned hiker. It is very steep although the trees provide plenty of shade. We opted to drive up to the upper part of the park and hike down the Gorge trail which was absolutely breathtaking! The swimming area at the lower part of the park looked amazing. I only put my feet in , as we were there before the swimming area opened at 11am. Overall a fantastic experience. Bathrooms were very clean and there appeared to be a changing area near the swimming hole. read more

Every odd year (2003-2017) we have a family reunion here at this NY State Park. We book 9 months out to reserve our spots. Saturday to Saturday very reasonable price for 30 AMP - they have dry sites, cabins, and plenty of tent sites. Lots of hiking trails and an incredible swimming area. Their play grounds (two) are state of art for kids. The staff is the best - no seriously they hire continuously amazing team members (well done). They are pet friendly. So much to do in and around Ithaca - Ithaca Brewing Company right around the corner - Buttermilk falls down the road, Cornel University and with in 25 minutes almost unlimited winery's. so is it worth it - if you like the outdoors, hiking, wineries or just sitting at your camp site - this is the place!!!! read more
