Many aspects to the park. Overall I give it a 4. Hiking Trails ... 5 stars. Great 4 1/2 mile loop between upper & lower ends of the park... providing truly amazing views from both the upper rim and deep within the gorge - as well as an upclose of Lucifer waterfall. Whole trail is beautiful and well-maintained. It's challenging at times and long but easy enough for kids (our 8 year old did it fine). Swimming Area ... 2 stars Cool that you can swim at the bottom of the waterfall - and it's well life-guarded. But the waterfall also makes the pool perpetually cold (this review from July) and the pool floor is a bed of sharp shards of slate. Not fun at all really. Camping ... 3 stars Tent sites small and on top of each other. Maybe this is just the way State Park camping is ... but the row-house setup forced us to listen to dueling car radios, crying babies, endlessly inquisitive toddlers, gabby teens, and drunk adults -- fun for the whole family! -- but not relaxing. The camping area was clean however (the whole park was) and the park staff was friendly and accommodating. They also have a playground which was very impressive. That averages to a 3.3, I know... but since we really made the visit for the hiking experience ... I'll round up. read more

We love this park. The falls are beautiful and trails well maintained. The climb is strenuous in some places. Wear sturdy shoes. Be sure to take water with you. There are smaller falls along the route to the summit where lucifer falls makes the trip worth the effort. We took the gorge trail up and down to stay closer to the water and saw many sights we missed on the way up the trail. Absolutely gorgeous in the autumn. read more

Very beautiful! We only went to the upper park. Take the hiking trail on the right that goes up the hill into the woods. Although you may not see much, it does have an overlook to see the upper falls. Then trek down some steep stone steps and cross over the bridge to the other side of the river. This is where the beauty begins. Walk back upstream and you know what I mean. The rock formations are geometric and seem ultra modern. Great place to take tons of pictures from many angles. read more

Great hikes for everyone. Green and lush and soothing waterfalls. I hiked the trail with an eight year old and a 70 year old and we did get tired. It's definitely great exercise since its up hill and downhill and then uphill again. It took us a long time since we stopped to look at every mushroom and dady long legs we saw. I advise you bring snacks and obviously water too. Free admittance for cars with Senior citizens (62 up) from Monday till Friday. Unfortunately when we arrived the natural pool had no lifeguard on duty so we could not swim. read more

My husband and I came to visit because we saw a picture in an Ithaca tourism brochure of someone jumping into a waterfall. We paid $7 to park and found our way to Enfield falls, a short easy walk from the main parking lot. The falls are beautiful and there were three lifeguards perched around the base of the waterfall where you were allowed to swim. There was a shallow area tied off for small children and a deep area with a diving board closer to the falls. My husband and I jumped from the diving board. Water was very deep, cold, and refreshing. We swam towards the rocks at the bottom of the falls and were able to climb up them a bit. Breathtakingly beautiful! For a Saturday afternoon, it was not as crowded as I was expecting. We had no problems parking or swimming. Worth a visit!! Would love to come back someday. read more

Absolutely became one of my favorite places to hike! The hike was fairly moderate for my friend and I. The most difficult parts were the stairs. The views were amazing and many waterfalls to see on the trail. This is a great place to go with less people, longer / tougher trails and similar kind of views than Watkins Glen state park. I suggest starting from the lower park, gorge trail and returning to the rim trail. read more

Amazing park. The hiking trails are to die for (and you might literally feel that way-- they are very difficult), but there is a refreshing swimming area at the bottom of the trails. The waterfall at the top of the trails is absolutely stunning. I camped there with my boyfriend last summer, and the campsites were great. There are different types of sites to meet the needs of all sorts of campers. My three year old nephew also came for a visit and they have the most giant playground I have ever seen. He had hours of fun climbing the rock walls. All in all a wonderful state park and campground-- great atmosphere, campsite, workout, etc.! read more

We had a great day at Treman. Parked at the lower lot and walked the Gorge Trail to the upper lot and returned on the Rim Trail. Took about 2+ hours. Really nice gorge. Next time we will bring our bathing suits since there were many swimming opportunities, to include a huge swimming hole at the bottom of Lower Falls that has a diving board! This park is 20 minutes outside Ithaca, you should check it out. read more

There are only two water falls in the finger lakes that I think are "must see" falls for those stopping by from out of town, and this is one of them. Beauty: No trail in Ithaca is more stunning than Robert H. Treman State Park's upper gorge trail. While the waterfall itself at Ithaca Falls is just as beautiful, the unique part about the trails here is the gorgeous stone path carved into the side of the gorge. Even the bridges look like they were taken out of a children's fairytale. In most parks the paths detract from the beauty of nature but in this park the path enhances it! Accessibility: Its not that accessible from the heart of town. You do have to take a 10 min drive or so to get here. Walking or busing is not an option. The trails themselves are steep at times, involving many stairs and slants. That said you have a couple of options to make this hike much easier. Most of the glamor shots are near the top of the falls, so drive up to the top and walk down the path for only about a quarter of the distance and then head back up. The top of the falls also has more stairs to help you climb the steep hills. If you feel like swimming or diving, or seeing the remaining glamor shots you can always drive back down to the base. To do the complete hike you probably shouldn't be an out of shape, sedentary, couch potato, like myself, but If you can walk to Cornell or Ithaca College from downtown, you are in plenty good enough shape to do this hike. If you want to start at the top of the falls, from 13, turn onto Enfield Falls Road, and instead of turning left into the parking lot, continue for about 3 miles or so on Enfield until you hit upper park rd. and make a left, continue until you see the lot. Warning: The upper trail tends to close more frequently than others due to bad weather, so call ahead if you plan to go on that trail after a heavy storm. Price: parking is $7. However, if you have an IthacaCarshare account this is the time to use it because many of their vehicles are equipped with a free parking pass. This means that a short ride to this fall in a carshare car can be cheaper or close to the same price as riding in your own personal vehicle! Value: Because of the convenience and price point, I'd say Ithaca Falls (free) offers more value, but this park is a close second. read more

Came here to camp for two night. Campsite 44 is the best of the bunch. Bathrooms are clean enough and we'll lit. What a hike, TAKE WATER!! Make sure to go up the gorge trail and come down the rim trail, not the other way around. Stunning views! read more

My family and I hiked here today - we all loved it. It was a great workout to say the least! We started at the lower end and hiked up (and I mean up!) to the upper falls on the gorge trail. It was roughly 2.5 miles and we were detoured along the way, which had us climb the cliff staircase. The cliff staircase is no joke - very challenging, but worth it for the views. All in all, you see lots of pretty waterfalls along the way. Then we hiked back on the rim trail, which was also pretty steep surprisingly. You would think that you be going down, but a lot of the rim trail had an incline too. My husband and I are daily runners and I would say that there were parts of the gorge trail that had us winded. Nevertheless, that's what we wanted...a good afternoon climb with the family. We'll be going back! read more

Upper Treman is my favorite place to take friends for an easy hike. The views unfold exponentially as people make the short loop. It is usually quiet, and a great place to let kids splash or let sticks float down the stream to their dramatic drop down the falls. I love the hike from the lower to the upper park. It is a bit of a trek, but my legs feel like they have accomplished something after I am done. The lower park has a lovely swimming area and park. It is my daughter's most-requested after-school destination. read more

We had a lot of fun here. When we got there it was raining and the swimming area was closed for a while. But they opened it up once the weather came back nice. So glad we were able to swim after all, because that the purpose of us coming here for. They do not allow children to wear the arm float or bring toy to the swimming area. The water was cold around 70 degrees but my kids did not care and they had so much fun. The diving board was awesome. Will definitely come back. read more

Wow, this park really blew me away. An almost endless array of cool waterfalls, waterways and gorges. Walking through some of them felt somewhat unreal. The overlooks at the top of the falls were pretty incredible, and all the channels along the gorge were like something out of Skyrim. So, yeah, I was walking along pretty impressed after passing every corner. A must see if you're in the area. read more

Our 5 mile hike was 3 hours. We took it easy and took breaks, but this is still a pretty serious hike. Lots of steep inclines and tough climbs, so keep that in mind before picking it. We took the Gorge Trail up and the Rim Trail back, skipping on Lucifer Falls and the cliff climb. We likes the Gorge Trail better - there were spots for paddling in the stream and more photo ops of the beautiful stream and falls than there were on the Rim trail, but loved all of it. What stunk was that we really wanted to swim in the swimming area, but it was closed for clearing of storm debris. Well, that's what we were told, it didn't look at all like any clearing was happening. We'll definitely hike here again! read more

Trails and waterfalls are great! My husband and I entered through the lower park. Hiked up the gorge trail (2 1/2 miles). We enjoyed all the little waterfalls leading up to the beautiful Lucifer Falls. It was almost progressive in beauty, which was pleasant. At the bottom of the gorge, we put on our water shoes and spent a little time building rock statues to commemorate our visit. The water was very clear. There are many picturesque areas and not a lot of people (especially for a summer Saturday). The upper park had nice spaced out picnic tables for a private feel. There was also a picnic house, which would be good for parties. Walking back down we took the Rim Trail (2 1/2 miles) which was perfect, as we continued to see more angles of the beautiful gorge. At the bottom we arrived at the swimming hole where we dipped away. It was a nice ending to a long hike. There were changing rooms, life guards and little areas for picnics as well. You would also be able to camp in the park. The swimming hole wasn't too "family fun" and wasn't too "private adult". Everyone seemed to enjoy their own space. I defiantly recommend visiting! Lucifer falls is breathtaking as seen from the Rim Trail. Waterfalls line the trail and there are tons of very picturesque areas along the whole length. Bring your camera! There are quite a lot of stairs and much of the trails are on an incline so expect a workout! This is one of my favorite hikes in the area. read more

An Awsome Place To Take Your Friends And Family To And Be Able To Get Away From The Busy Life

This place is amazing! The family and I came for a visit over the holiday weekend, we planned to hike and swim. The weather had been raining for a few days and was a colder than normal May day. We started our adventure on a trail named GORGE TRAIL. This trail takes you up a winding path up hill, there are stairs but do t let that fool ya this is a tough trail even with the stairs. After you make it up the first set of stairs the trail flattens out with some small inclines up and down. The views are awesome and you can hear the falls. Nature is all Around. All you have to do is look there is much to see. I found a small path down to the stream to sit, talk and hang out if it weather was warmer out we could have walked in the water. This trail is fantastic a lot of fun and a great workout. When we finished the trail we went to the falls and the swimming area. The deep end was closed do to trout spawning. The water temperature was 54° I put my feet in and it was like an ice bucket challenge. The kids did go in for a short time. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone. It is a state park and kept up nice. I would say it is great in any weather the rain and cold did not stop us from having a good time. read more

There also appears to be no coordination with the local authorities regarding who's paid to be in what spot. A patrolling sheriff rudely awakened and questioned me in the dead of night regarding what I was doing in the spot I'd paid for, and this despite my showing the park-issued decal clearly in my vehicle window. He was a jerk, and it was absurd. read more

Beautiful waterfalls. The upper park is magical! And there is a cool old mill at the upper parking lot. The bottom section includes a nice swimming area with lifeguard. The 2+ mile hike between the two halves of the park was very nice. I'd suggest parking at the bottom and hiking to the top along the Gulch and cliff stairs trails. Don't miss the Upper Gulch trail! The hiking isn't super difficult, but there are several steep sections with stairs. The round-trip is a good half-day hike. read more

My sister and I were ticketed by New York State Police for trying to spread our fathers ashes under Lucifer Falls....This is a beautiful park, so beautiful my sister and I traveled from Syracuse to spread some of our fathers ashes. I had heard about this park and thought what a serene and magical place. On Sunday July 21 2013 we parked at the Upper Park entrance, we walked the mile or so around and down the steps meeting a few hikers along the way who were all wet... These hikers said down around the bend was the gorge along Lucifer Falls. We came across the bend after the steps, there was an iron gate that was opened. There were about 10 different people among the rocks & near the waterfall. We waited awhile then walked over to the rocks next to the waterfall and took the jar with ashes with us. Today was the first day since he passed in November that we attempted to honor his life & put his ashes somewhere. We were very anxious and it was very hard to prepare for. The other people who were near asked us what was in the jar & we explained. They said sorry and said they would give us some privacy. About 1 minute later I look behind me and there is a NYS Park Police officer, we get our things and walk over. She says "ladies whats in the jar?" we explain these are our fathers ashes and we were trying to honor his life and spread his ashes. She tells us we are in a prohibited area and asks for our identifications. We explain we didn't realize we were in prohibited area and she tells us we need to hike back up to the car to get our id (about 2 miles back up around the bridge and steps)... This whole time I am thinking why not just given us a warning, especially considering the sensitivity of the matter. She walks us past I'd say about at least 30 other people in the creek and waterfalls all along the trail on the way back up. I ask her aren't you going to ask them to accompany us and she advises "No I already have you two". She yells at these people "Get out of the water, this is a warning" ( one woman, holding a toddler in her arms next to 5 other children under the ages of 5 in the water with her ) I am more alarmed at putting the safety of the children at risk on the moss covered rocks and these children being possibly hurt. The whole time I am snapping pictures of these people in the water with my fathers beautiful Nikon camera. This whole time my sister and I are feeling embarrassed because we are being escorted like CRIMINALS. The same couple who we saw at Lucifer Falls told the officer she was " SHAMEFULL" for ticketing us. As we near the car the officer asks us what made us come to this park and tells my sister and I " You girls have Green Lakes in Syracuse " I was wondering what is that supposed to mean? We give her our IDs and she gives us a ticket summons to the Town of Enfield on August 2, the violation is being in a prohibited area with a maximum of 250 dollars. I am going to fight this ticket also considering the officers insensitivity and taunting remarks will be filing an official complaint with her Sargent who will need to meet with my sister and I take an official complaint from us. This area depends on tourist traveling here and spending money but although this park felt magical the officer ruined our day... Even more disturbing we were never able to spread our fathers ashes and honor and celebrate his life. Very disturbing indeed. read more
