I have been going to RB Dental Excellence for at least 8 years now. I was looking for a dentist who listened and understood my plight of having a difficult time getting numb on one side of my mouth. He offered me all the comfort required to get my dental work done when needed. Dr. Lozano is careful and thorough in his assessment and treatments. He works with state of the art equipment and this seems to shorten one's time in the chair. When I required a crown, it was produced and placed during the same appointment. I have had no problems with any of his dental work. I have seen my dentist hygienist, Sharon, since the beginning of my visits here. Fine for basic cleanings and fillings, Dr. Lozano is a really nice guy. Unfortunately in dental and medical situations "nice" really should mean absolutely nothing. I have seen many many dentists since we have lived in six different states in the last 10 years so I have plenty to compare him to. He did TWO different root canals on me, which took THREE tries on each one before finally he sent me to an endodontist to fix it. Luckily I am not a fan of dentists doing root canals because they usually SUCK (a mixture of skill and tools) and just love the extra income, so I told him that I would like to have an endodontist do the root canal. UNLUCKILY for me, I am also CHEAP so I gave into his speech about "I'll pay for an endodontist to do fix it if it turns out bad". Well they BOTH turned out bad! I admit I was really stupid to let him do it twice. Cost me lots of pain, time, and anguish. Arghhhh!! I'm sticking my mother's good wisdom: Don't let dentists to root canals!! read more

It's official - worst dental office yet. The last straw? Being charged $25 to "copy my records" for my new dentist. Moved to SD last year and found Dr. Lozano via an internet search. I was coming to him having had excellent dental care for the previous five years but I lowered my expectations so as not to be too disappointed. I guess I just can't lower them enough. I have sensitive teeth and the first hygienist really hurt me, despite my request to "go easy" on me. Tried a second hygienist six months later and expressed my issue with sensitive gums and she offered to put some topical anesthetic on them - great idea, but then she started to talk down to me and belittle my sensitivity. Dr. Lozano himself was fairly quick in examining my teeth but immediately came to the conclusion that I needed my crowns replaced. They trotted me right into an office to write up a quote for the work. I said no thank you. Received a snippy message on my machine a couple of months later asking why I hadn't scheduled the work. Ummm....that would be because I said no thank you. read more

I've actually had very positive experiences while under Dr. Lozano's care. I find him to be extremely knowledgeable and love that he has the most up-to-date equipment to help diagnose and treat. He makes suggestions as to what he thinks should be done to prevent problems in the future but leaves the decision-making entirely up to you. I must also compliment Sharon, his hygienest. I've been with Dr. Lozano since January and every my visit his office charges me more than they should according to my dental insurance. When I mention this during my next visit they always say they will look into my EOBs afterward and take care of it during my next visit. After my 4th visit in March Wendy said she will check everything and call me back with the results. She never did. 4 months later, in July, I had another visit and asked what's my account balance and was told it is $0, whereas it supposed to be $373 at that time from all those overcharges. Apparently, 4 months was not enough to check 4 EOBs. Luckily, Wendy finally recalled that I have already asked about it many times previously and said she will look at it again. So far, in August, I've already had 6 visits in total and, of course, they say they will take care of it on my 7th visit. Interestingly, they did not send a claim to my dental insurance for the visit in July (more than a month ago), I assume because the insurance will say that I overpaid again and they will owe me even more. When I called them and asked about that, they said they will check what happened and call me back. Of course, they never did. I also noticed one of the claims in February was split into 2, like if I came 2 times on 2 different days, but I did only once. Not sure if that is just a mistake or actually insurance fraud. I'm going to file a grievance with my dental insurance and a complaint with the Dental Board of California (billing issues is out of their control, but they are interested in any fraud) if they will keep holding my money. read more

What I liked about Dr. Lozano is that he took the time to explain the needed treatment to me and used a camera that took a picture of the tooth that was needing treatment. This is simply the best dental office. I have been going there since 2009. Dr Lozano fixed all my previous hack job fillings using the new non mercury fillings. He put some gold crowns in which I wanted when I had some root canals done. Fixed a broken tooth. He has a crown making machine right in the office so it saves you the unnecessary time and trip of getting a temporary crown and waiting while the permanent one comes back from some off site place. He has ultra modern measuring and sizing equipment. Fine tunes the crown fit right there. The bi yearly medical exams are thorough and complete. I have recommended several co workers there and every body is satisfied. Do yourself and your friends a favor and switch to Dr Lozano. read more

I have been going to Dr Lozano for two years and find the staff friendly, kind and they make sure you feel as comfortable as possible. Their hygienist is very gentle and explains in detail the plans to help with any gum disease you may have. Yesterday I had two caps replaced. One had a cavity underneath and my cap had fallen off and the other had worn down to the metal. It was virtually a painless procedure and could be accomplished in one visit. I switch to this dentist after I moved. I really enjoyed my previous dentist, who I had been going to for 10+ years. Generally speaking, the quality of service was fine. The dentist and staff were nice, and the office seemed to be up to date technology wise. I didn't think the cleanings wee as good as my previous dentist, however, I believe that's simply because the previous dentist was really good. My concern here is that every time I went in they would charge me $35 for tacking a photograph of my teeth. While I am sure the camera is really expensive, I have no desire to pay for an "extra" service that my insurance doesn't pickup (funny how my last dentist included that as part of a regular checkup.) Additionally, they tried to tell me that I have 3 cavities, when my last checkup at the previous dentist 6 months prior gave me a clean bill. I'm not saying they are trying to rip me off, but I'm certainly not going back. read more

This guy is the worst. He was upset that he did a shoddy filling and had to file it down again, so he hastily threw me in a chair and had me bite down on a used film to see where to file. When that wasnt working fast enough, because he had the tech use a USED transfer film, he drilled my whole tooth down. He gave me fillings on the outside of my teeth.. when I was 24 and had relatively perfect teeth. Then I overheard him tell his receptionist to bill my insurance for a check up and cleaning! Do not recommend and honestly can't figure out how he is still able to practice dentistry. To further my animosity, we worked off of the same exit. One morning, He was late for work or something and, being the all important person that he MUST be, he cut me off on the offramp, causing me to slam my brakes, and then he flipped me off! I have been seeing Dr. Lozano for about 2 Years now. I got my husband to go to him which getting him to the dentist can be tricky. We both have had really great experiences. The hygienists are friendly and professional and the office staff good. I asked them about a fluoride treatment and the gal who cleaned my teeth said she wouldn't recommend it (and it was expensive for what it was). I pressed her a little and she said she and her family use a fluoride toothpaste at night. She certainly didn't push any product or service on me. Dr. Lozano has always explained anything he does. READ THE FINE PRINT! I took my 82 year old mother here for a basic teeth cleaning, and left with $80 of extra charges for exams and high tech photograph fees not covered by her insurance. We were even charged a fee for them to sterilize their tools! Yes, buried in their five pages of initial forms it states that they can do this and my 82 year old mother signed it so we have no recourse. Sadly they have assured me that it is their standard practice and she will be hit with fees they deem necessary at each visit. We will look elsewhere for affordable dental care. read more

Avoid Avoid Avoid. This was long story(6 years back). I had two crowns that need replacement. I went to him to replace the first one. His prices are too high I ended paying close to 400 as co-pay. He charged me for crown build up which I don't need. My insurance found that out (based on x-rays) and said I do not need crown build up. He said there is some mistake and refiled the claim. Other crown fell down and I ended up going to him. He worked on my tooth and put a temp one. While coming out all he said is this time I grind it so much insurance can not say you don't need crown buildup. That was odd but since we do not technical details I came out. By evening I started getting pain and found out I need root canal as he removed so much my nerve is exposed to air. I went to different dentist and she said there is no decay or what ever to grind so much. I got root canal and then ended up with some bacteria infection went to reroot canal with some surgeon. That turned out too costly as I am still suffering with every couple of years. All he want to do is charge insurance for $50 for crown build up and I spent close to $2000 (after insurance) and number of days with pain. If you are just going for basic cleaning then it is fine. I went to cleaning and few friends for basic cleaning. He highly recommends deep cleaning and some sort of other cleanings. Ignore him and get your basic cleaning done. If you need any thing else go to some one else. read more

Don't go to him. He's the worst dentist I've ever been to. I went to Dr. Lozano 6 years ago, so did my daughter and my husband. We each had 2 teeth each that needed major work according to him. I got two crowns, my daughter got 1 crown and another major filliing, my husband got 2 crowns. He could not control an infection in the filling tooth of my daughter and within the year and after a 2nd and 3rd opinion no one could save the tooth and her permanent molar had to be pulled. 5 years later the my husband's 2 crowns crumbled out of his mouth. Our insurance would not cover any of a redo of those crowns because they expect a crown to last at minimum 15 years. I contacted Dr. Lozano to see if he would cover any portion of the redo and he showed no interest and wouldn't even talk to me. He had his front desk person have the hard conversation with me. Now at 6 years my crown cracked. The denstist said it wasn't seated right and the margins were poor. Every dentist I've ever been to points to the crowns he did because they are so poor. They think I had them done overseas or in Mexico. Dr. Lozano has cost me time, money $7000, and lots of pain because he's the worst dentist I've been to EVER. Dr. Lozano is amazing! Our whole family goes to him, including our 9yr old boy and 5yr old girl. His hygienist Sharon does the best cleaning--zero pain! When I had the worst toothache ever, Dr. Lozano saw me immediatly and got rid of the pain. I hate going to the dentist and was so pleased with Dr Lozano, who was highly recommended by a couple of friends. The staff was so friendly and the dental rooms were very clean and bright with nice decor. Loved the massaging chair! All of his equipment is state of the art.
