My wife and I have been going to this practice for the last 3 years, and recently we decided to stop going there due to the following: * They mainly prefer doing crowns, and the doctor doesn't do fillings--it seems it's not worth his time unless there is crown involvement. * The new front desk staff never respond to messages. * Over the last year, I started noticing they send additional bills without explanation, even after paying the copay at checkout. * Their hygiene staff keeps changing, and we have to go over everything again with each new hygienist. Unfortunately, i decided to leave a review here due to not getting a response on their follow up survey ,we have to find a different practice, even though we have invested a lot of time and money there. read more

Instead of simply treating my wife's pain the scared her into unnecessary procedures that are costly beyond belief. What we expected was a written explanation for potential future treatment options based on current circumstances that we could of gotten a 2nd opinion on. What occurred instead was used car sales pitches with half truths after the fact.The only documents received did not get received until I demanded them the next day when I found out the cost of the specific procedures they claimed to perform. When I read the specifics and contacted them for clarity they refused to explain their actions and hung up on me. They replaced two crowns. They did the in office thing where you get your new crown the same day. Next time I went back within a month- the new crown was cracked. Had to be replaced. Then I had the second new crown and a day later it fell out of my mouth. It was a poor fitting crown (sizing wise and shape) which if can't be done correctly the first and second time- I'm not doing a third- . Also a lot of hype, and extra money for example $$$$ to rinse your mouth out with chlorhexadine. Upsales on CT Scans etc. it's literally a racket. I had my daughter go there and they told her she had 6 cavities. She was so embarrassed. She went to the dentist in SD we had been seeing for years 6 months later and guess what? Perfect check up- zero cavities. She never got the supposed "cavities " filled thank goodness. My neighbor was a marketing director for them and recommended them. A big no thanks- Now I need that crown replaced and have to pay out of pocket or go back there. Nice people there but a bit of a scam going on as well. read more

I received the best dental care experience in my entire life at The Dentistry Collective! All of the staff are very kind and friendly. They go above and beyond to make sure that you're comfortable and they give you a list of things that they can offer to you for free such as headphones with music, a soft blanket, beverages, etc. to make sure that you're comfortable. They address any concerns that you may have about your dental care and they take care of all of your needs. They gave me a tour of their beautiful recently remodeled dental office with state of the art equipment. Doctor Garofolo is super energetic and he came into the room with a big smile on his face and a very positive attitude. We hit it off right away because he's a big Chicago Cubs fan and so am I and he used to drive 6 hours from Nebraska to Chicago just to see their baseball games at Wrigley Field. He used AI to analyze my X-rays and then he used his expertise to look into each issue that was found in them. He discussed each issue with me in detail and we set up a treatment plan to take care of them with the priority items being addressed first. Then Omar did the best periodontal maintenance cleaning that I've ever had in my entire life! He meticulously cleaned each tooth with automatic and hand tools and he polished them and he put fluoride on them. My teeth look spectacular now! Then he educated me to use manual floss in addition to the water pick that I use at home every day. Then he showed me the proper way to apply the periodontal gel in my Periodontal Protect trays and he gave me instructions on how long to wear them. He really educated me with his knowledge and wisdom. I was able to make appointments for follow up visits with the dentist and the hygienist right away. My husband and I had such a great experience. We were referred by Jessica. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and made us feel completely at ease. The front desk was efficient and kind. Kevin & Suna took our X-rays and were so efficient, Dania was also one of our assistants and she was incredibly gentle and patient. Cynthia was our hygienist, I'm very picky and she was amazing, highly recommend to book your cleanings with her. Dr. Yaz took his time to explain everything clearly, answered all our questions, and made sure we were comfortable throughout the entire visit. Amazing is not enough! The best dental office I have ever been to in my entire life. Last year I moved back to San Diego and was looking for a new dentist. Unlucky me, went to a dental office with terrible practices such overcharging the insurance company, inventing unneeded dental work and, the worst, asking for all the money upfront. I could not believe this was happening to me (would not say the name but I forgot to read the reviews in advance and they have terrible). After that very bad experience I did my homework and found The Dentistry Collective. I loved just by the looks but that alone does not mean anything if it does not go accompanied with superb dentists and related professionals, plus caring customer service. I was so impressed with how I was treated and pampered from the minute I step into their office. As others have commented, you feel like in a spa, you are offered a blanket, water, you get your bag of freebies the first day and, most important, you get your treatment clearly explained, properly spelled out for you to understand and in a simple yet effective card with who assisted you and what they did and what are your next steps. From obscurity to clarity, from being a customer to feeling a patient that is taken care of. Dr. Kapur (I hope I wrote his name correctly) was super kind, very explanatory in each step and loved his approach and warm professionality. Same goes for Madison the hygienist, she was fantastic, explaining step-by-step each thing was going to do for my deep cleaning and providing constant updates while doing the work. Every time I call this office with a question, I'm told "someone will call you back with that information." I have a demanding job and can't spend the whole day waiting for a call about something simple. I try to call when I'm available, but they never seem to work with my schedule. When I went in for a consult, the staff didn't seem prepared. During the exam, the camera being used disconnected, and I could clearly feel the frustration from the doctor--which made me uncomfortable. I mentioned I had left my previous dental office due to a lack of empathy, and both the doctor and assistant just giggled. That really stuck with me--I didn't feel like they cared about me as a patient. It felt more like they were in a rush to get me out. The doctor even said, "we'll schedule you on a different day that we actually have time." I drove 45 minutes just to get a quote, which felt like a waste. I wish the front desk had been clearer about what to expect. I asked if I should schedule an exam instead of a consult since I wanted to become a new patient, and was told, "I can't provide that information over the phone." Am I supposed to waste hours of my day just to get basic guidance? I didn't feel any connection with the staff, and I won't be coming back. read more

The office, staff, and the culture is really nice. I even recommended it to my fam and friends. Dr. Kapur has been amazing for the several times I went in for services. I've always trusted him, especially with pain management during appointments-- always listens and that makes my visits more bearable (I hate going to the dentist due to pain) HOWEVER, when I got my crown placed recently, I did not expect it to hurt post procedure as I have gotten crowns placed by him before... I even have a karaoke night to go to that day. I slept and waited for the local anesthesia to wear off and boom, I was in 9/10 pain. I called the office and asked if I can talk to Dr. Kapur as my pain is terrible that I couldn't open my mouth to eat properly. The front desk told me Dr. said to take 800mg of Ibuprofen and alternate with Tylenol. I take 600mg of Ibuprofen for a terrible headache quite frequently and it sometimes doesn't work. Tylenol does nothing so I don't even take it. I don't like taking strong pain meds as they make me dizzy-- I don't even take meds after extraction but this hurt like one! I advocated for myself and told them, for the pain I have, I know Ibuprofen would not work and asked if Dr. can give me prescription of few strong pills sent to my pharmacy--he was with a patient and so the front desk told me that's all he can do. I told them again, I need something stronger, and I know it won't work for me, and I was so desperate since I'm a sucker for pain that I told them I'm a nurse so they'll know I know what I'm talking about. Dr. Kapur was with a patient & so unfortunately, he couldn't talk to me and all they said that that's all they can do... I disagree. I work in the hospital setting and work a lot with patients with pain. I specialize in oncology and pain is unfortunately a common thing amongst them. I do understand that there may be a "usual" dose and medication for such procedures, but I expected more of the office to empathize with me and believe what I'm saying. As a nurse, we have been educated from the very start to treat patients individually and give individualized care. I'm so disappointed with the service that I have received did not expect this from them as I have had good experiences prior. I had to scramble old meds that I have from a prior dentist and voila, it worked. I hope next time the office listens to patients more empathetically. What more will happen to patients who does not even have any experience in the medical field; how would they be able to effectively advocate for themselves? I would've given one star if it was not for the good service I have received before, but the last one was such a disappointment. read more

This is truly a 5-star experience. I was blown away by the level of professionalism & the attention to detail that ensures your comfort throughout your experience. All of the staff were incredibly friendly & welcoming, they go above and beyond to ensure you're comfortable. You are given a personalized gift bag and "comfort menu" upon arrival that offers everything from a soft blanket, neck pillow, headphones, etc to feel more cozy. This was just an added bonus, the real highlight is the staff! As someone who typically dreads dental visits, I can honestly say this was the best dental experience I've ever had. My fiancée and I have both been overcharged and billed for things we didn't agree to. We were told by the hygienist that our insurance would cover various additional cleanings that they said we both needed. We both paid our co-pay and anything else that insurance wouldn't cover at the end of the visit, but were then hit up for more money weeks and months later. This has happened enough times that we finally decided to leave. If you choose to go here, make sure you ask them to review all charges with you so you don't have a fast one pulled down the road read more

I really enjoyed my visits here with Fiona for my cleanings. She is sweet, attentive, and patient. Front desk staff and the dentists have been a huge let down. During my first visit, I was told that I needed a filling. I shared with them that I recently finished an Invisalign treatment and wear a vivera retainer. They didn't have me bring my retainer to the appointment, and when I asked "will this filling conflict with my retainer?" Dr.Merchant said "1000% no". He was 1000% WRONG. Over the next two weeks, my teeth were in pain from the filling shifting my retainer, which shifted the rest of my teeth and ultimately my bite. At my next appointment, I had pain in a molar. I was told that it was a broken tooth. My best guess was that it was caused by my newly shifted bite from the last filling they gave me. After the last experience I had with Dr.Merchant's work, I decided to get my broken tooth fixed elsewhere. I had no issues with the repair from another dentist. Finally, the cherry on top of this whole experience: on the day before my next scheduled appointment for a cleaning, about an hour or 2 before closing, I received a text that the front desk staff needed to speak with me "urgently". When I called back, they told me that Dr.Garofolo decided that "we are not a good fit" and that my appointment the next day will be cancelled. Very unprofessional to cancel my appointment within 24 hours with no specific reason given. I had been coordinating with the front desk staff earlier in the week, and no one mentioned a thing about this. It seems like the doctors are either upset I went somewhere else to get a proper filling done or my mouth doesn't have enough issues to be very profitable to them. Scary, especially after reading about another person that was convinced to get all 4 of their 20 year old wisdom teeth taken out - sheesh! If the office is open to some constructive criticism: please train your doctors how to adequately perform fillings when something like a retainer is involved. At the very least, educate them that there is no such thing as "1000% no" and not to be IGNORANT of the issues a thoughtlessly-done filling can cause in patients' teeth. read more

This dentist is on the second floor located in Rancho Bernardo. When you walk in, you immediately will see that patient satisfaction and comfort is a priority. For new patients there is a tour of the whole department including the multiple doctor's accolades, the high tech machinery, the welcoming staff and the view of the cute pond outside. The front desk is very attentive and will offer a beverage. This whole place is quite fancy and for someone who may not like getting work done in their mouth, I highly suggest coming here. My whole family sees Dr. Merchant. He is young, cool, and straight forward. He will get the job done and will tell you what needs to happen in order to get you to your dental desires. The dental assistants were very kind and helpful. Not to forget that the front desk is always, ALWAYS, so welcoming. For whatever reason there was one incidence where they told me I was finished with my appointment, so I left. I get a call shortly after leaving from the front desk if I could come back for some pictures of my teeth. Luckily I was only a street light away, and I didn't think anything of it. I came in without any anger or annoyance because mistakes do happen. However, the front desk lady had gave me a $10 gift card to Starbucks apologizing for the inconvenience! This was a perfect example that the Dentistry Collective truly does care for their patients. I've been coming here since March 2021 and it's unlike any other dentist office I've ever been to. Honestly it has a high end spa feel - almost as if it belongs in Beverly Hills. The staff at the front all wear black blazers and dress pants and have the utmost professionalism. They gave me a tour of the facility the first time I was there which I appreciated and felt more comfortable in that space afterward. I got my usual X-rays and they did a great job on the cleaning. This last time, the hygienist even identified the specific mouth wash I used based on the stains on my teeth and cleaned it all up for me (I had no idea that's why my teeth were staining recently). Most importantly to me, they don't push you to do things. My previous dentist always tried to get me to get braces for aesthetic reasons (I had them as a kid and my teeth aren't really even crooked now) which I never experienced here. They also are very upfront about additional costs and don't push you to decide if you're uncomfortable. For example, I recently got the laser bacterial reduction and they weren't pushy at all after they told me the cost after insurance. I have a pretty basic dental plan through my employer but it covers my exam and cleaning here, which really feels like it shouldn't because it's so much nicer here than anywhere else I've ever been. They did a good job of giving me information upfront about what my insurance covers before my first appointment, which gave me peace of mind. read more

Please read before you decide to go to this dentist clinic. I've been going to this dentist for over a year. Almost 8 months ago, the dentist recommended replacing a few crowns. I mentioned that some of them were replaced less than two years ago. He had someone from his staff discuss the costs and insurance coverage with me. The staff members informed me that my copay for the two crown replacements would be $2,083, and that the insurance would cover $948. Assuming they had checked my policy,and based on this assurance, I decided to proceed with replacing two crowns and I paid my portion. Six months later, on Monday 11/11/24, I was informed that I owe an additional $948 because the insurance does not cover crown replacements done less than five years ago. When I spoke to their finance department, they tried to blame the insurance, but it was evident that the clinic failed to properly verify the insurance coverage before proceeding with the replacements, despite my informing them that the crowns were only two years old. The finance representative mentioned that this issue occurs frequently, which suggests that the clinic regularly performs work without verifying insurance coverage, leaving patients to bear the full cost if the insurance does not pay. Additionally, the representative was rude and did not apologize for the mistake. I am deeply upset and disappointed, as I now have to pay a significant amount of money. This experience has led me to stop recommending the clinic to others and to inform my friends to seek dental care elsewhere. We are a family of 4 that recently joined. We've had cleanings. My daughter had fillings. I had several fillings and a same-day-crown. I could not believe how little pain I experienced both during and after my procedure. I went back for a bite adjustment and they added a little more medicine to my gum line to help it heal. I feel like Dr. Kapur truly cares about helping me. I feel like they use all of the latest technology. The staff is attentive. Appointments are available quickly. The office is gorgeous. They have consulted me on additional work I neeed. Some extras I paid for & some work I said needs to wait for financial reasons. There was absolutely no pressure from anyone. read more

The Dentistry Collective has a lot of modern services, however, the fundamentals are lacking. I had recently changed dentists due to Delta Dental no longer being accepted by my old dentist, and so I went to the Dentistry Collective. My old dentist, knowing the frequency of covered x-rays, had offered to send x-rays to the new dentist. When I arrived at the Dentistry Collective, the technician insisted that I had to get a new set of x-rays. I should have protested stronger, but the technician said it was policy that all new clients had to have x-rays taken. So I sat in the chair to get the x-rays, only this technician did not know how to take them and just triggered gagging. She called in another technician, and technician #2 also gagged me badly. Finally, the "real" hygienist got freed up so she could take the x-rays using the appropriate sized mouthpieces. I told her about my previous dentist offering to send x-rays, and how I told the technicians this before they started, and she told me that I wouldn't get charged for the ones she took. She was not an unpleasant hygienist, but the grit from the polishing was left behind. I was offered a drink instead of a rinse, which was weird to me. There was no flossing done, which several people said is supposed to be part of the cleaning. I was left waiting for the dentist for quite a long time. The dentist took photos of my teeth and said I needed 5 new fillings. That was very odd to me as I've gone years with the previous dentist without a concern. The x-rays showed no problems. He pointed to some staining in the crevices of my teeth, but I found it rather suspect that during this cleaning, they didn't remove a stain on my incisor and attributed it to natural enamel color. The previous hygienist had no problem removing stains. To top it off, the old fillings that were issues were put in by the other dentist in his same office. The Dentistry Collective has a different philosophy than what I want for a dentist, which can be just right for other people, but this negative review was triggered by the bill they sent me. Despite the hygienist saying that I wouldn't be billed and despite my expectation that I had paid my bill in full when I left the appointment, they emailed me a bill for the x-rays. Despite everybody in that office wearing an earpiece, it didn't compensate for the lack of communication in the office. The cleaning visit was an excessive 2 hours long, and though I was patient and willing to consider it an outlier due to perhaps other emergencies that other dental patients had, I came out thinking this is a place that is more interested in billing insurance for services than actually servicing the patients. I had expressed my feelings about all this after they pressed me several times for a reason on why I cancelled all future appointments with them. I only posted my negative experience here when they chose to bill me. read more

Hands down this is the best dentist office I have ever been too. This review is long overdue as I have been coming to The Dentistry Collective since September 2021. I had come here on a whim as I was too anxious to keep going back to my previous dentist but I was having so much pain. It was a day and night difference to what I was used too. I have alway had anxiety about going to the dentist. While I still do get anxious leading up to my appointments, that changes once I get there and interact with the staff. The office is beautiful and clean. Everyone there is kind and welcoming. I love having Dr. Merchant as my Dentist. I wish I had a better experience. It started off great and everyone was super nice, I wanted to love it. They told me I needed all my old fillings replaced and had several cavities.... I got 2 other opinions at different offices using the same X-rays from the dentistry collective and both 2nd opinions said I DIDN'T need any old filling or cavities repaired.. Unfortunately I started the process and got 2 fillings done and can't get refunded..they just said "that was the doctor's diagnosis and he can go over it with me again" They also showed me what insurance covered &I paid the remaining fee and I'm STILL getting charged with random fees?? I was referred by my coworker and ironically they told her she needed all old fillings replaced and has several cavities as well....kinda fishy in my opinion I will not be going back! read more

Wow. My husband and I went here. Lots to report, but here are the main points: 1. Really odd intake/explanation of the office/history. Realllllly odd. Like, im here for my teeth, idc ab this. 2. The hygienists introduce you to the dentist...really awkward. "This is xx she's here for xx. She likes xx." Feels like a case study in med school. 3. I was told I had receding gums and given a liquid antibiotic. After leaving this dentist for a new one, was told that was not at all an evidence-based treatment. Thanks! 4. I received an e mail bill 8 MONTHS after treatment! Still trying to wrap my head around this. Was on the phone with someone to clarify this who told me there was at least 1 treatment that ins refused to pay for bc there were 2 treatments done on one day. I have a very common dental insurance; they know which I had an honestly had to know that this would happen. Def did not tell me. Luckily found a great new, trustworthy, ethical dentist. read more

Dr Tim and staff really have a fantastic operation- top to bottom it looks seamless from the outside and it's definitely not like any other dentist visit you've had- it's another level of service, detail, and professionalism that is extremely rare in any business. My 85-year-old husband had a long procedure today involving a root canal and two crowns. It is very difficult for him to be immobile for so long. Dr. Merchant arranged to have a 30-minute break at about 2/3 in. We were able to take a stroll around the nearby pond which helped to alleviate his stress. Best Dentist office I've ever been to. Everyone is really nice and professional. Over the weekend I started having jaw pain and was able to get an appointment with them that Tuesday. Most offices you need to book way in advance. They quickly knew what was wrong and prescribed me antibiotics and scheduled me for extractions in the next coming days. I'm so relieved they were able to take care of my problem since I have very low pain tolerance and this was stressing me out. read more
