Negative Crown Replacement Experience and Billing Issue As a first-time patient, I came to this office to proactively replace a partially damaged crown. The affected tooth was asymptomatic (no pain/sensitivity) beforehand. Following the temporary crown fitting during the first visit, and then after the final new crown fitting later, I experienced persistent pain and discomfort that did not subside. Given my past positive experience with multiple successful crowns by other dentists, this outcome was unexpected and I lost confidence in this dentist quickly, especially after this issue necessitated a subsequent unexpected root canal and implant for the same tooth by other dental professionals. Furthermore, as I believed I was overcharged for the crown replacement, I filed a formal complaint with my dental insurance, and after their review of the bill, I was able to secure a $673 refund. read more

Dr Gholami was amazing! I have super sensitive teeth and dread going to the dentist because I always suffer from even the most basic procedures. This time was different though. Dr Gholami put me at ease right off with her friendly and caring bedside manner. Then after telling her about my painfully sensitive teeth, she proceeded so slowly and gently that I had the most pain free dental experience of my 60 year lifetime. Very disappointed in this office. My bridge broke in Jan and I was pregnant and I wanted to get it fixed before I gave birth in Feb. First of all, I went back to her because I just got my bridge done by her like 4 years ago so was annoyed it came off already. So the estimate they gave me was for 4000 which was so high but I had no choice. I got a temp put in and that came off within a few days, and I did not have the time to go get another temp so was annoyed as had a whole till the permanent came in. Well..I got the permanent in and it didn't fit right but I didn't have time. Then I got the bill and It was 800 dollars more. The front lady argued with me that the estimate was wrong and that is what I agreed upon. I was so upset but finally the doctor reduced it after yelling at front desk. Now we are at today and my bridge apparently had a gap in it and is not fitting right still and I went to another dentist and it is 1000 dollars less. I am so frustrated..because is just got a new bridge and apparently I need to get it redone already. read more

I don't remember the exact dates but here is the scenario. I saw Dr Ramanujam for a badly chipped tooth that was very near the nerve but didn't hurt. She ground the tooth down significantly and installed a crown that was more expensive than I would have guessed. Within 3 months the tooth was hurting due to an infection. I went back to Dr Ramanujam and they removed the crown, did a root canal and put in a new crown that was equally expensive. Now 8 months later, guess what? I have an infection in the same tooth and need to see an endodontist 2 days from now. So that's 2 expensive crowns for nothing and a lot of time sitting uncomfortably in a dentist chair with my mouth wide open. This dentist is obviously not thorough. read more

I had an absolutely horrible experience at this office. I called in advance to confirm they accepted both of my insurance. Then a person attempted to do my x-rays and she did not know how to work the machine. I asked the dentist can she duplicate my dentures and she said absolutely. I spent my time there trusting that she was going to do the work gave her all my information and then she told me I had to wait two weeks for the insurance to go through. I explained to her that I had Delta. And Medi-Cal. took Medi-Cal and my original dentist Medi-Cal approved my dentures my partial and then my insurance on the other side approved $1000 for back didn't the work. She wanted 3000 more and decided not to schedule me to come back. I also had made a trip in there to sit with her receptionist to discuss the treatment plan. she left me sitting for an hour waiting. I think she was expecting me to spend a lot more money on the side. I don't know what her problem was, but she wasted my time Is now billing Medi-Cal for x-rays and that money should be going to the dentist that goes to do our work. This is not an honest practice. I would not recommend this to anyone. read more

Dr Sandhya Ramanujam left a needle in my root canal. She claimed that she told me. But I never heard it. I only realize that when I had a gum infection. And requested a X-ray and letter she wrote to the referral specialist. The tooth she set up for me is esthetically wrong! It is a wrong color and wrong size! I went to a specialist and took the needle out of my gum. Not the specialist she referred! Within years, I suffered from the crown she made for me. That crow just had a wrong cut along the gun. I am going to find a dentistry associate to complain about unethical and lame work she did for me! The dentist Manager at the time has zero interest listen to my complaints. They thought I was coming in for a regular cleaning and x-rays even though I told them multiple times on the phone and before my first appointment what I actually needed. It also wasn't until after my x-rays that they said they couldn't do what I needed, that I had to see a specialist AND that my insurance didn't cover the x-rays they just did. Paid almost $300 and the woman in the front was giving me attitude about it. read more

Terrific office staff and great dentist. Hours are relatively good and they always see me if something goes wrong. Dental care is excellent. I have had an implant done and it was done perfectly. The only thing I wish they had was an emergency number. When a problem arises after closing hours, you can't contact anyone. Overall though this is a great place to go for dental care. read more

Warning: AVOID THIS DENTIST AT ALL COSTS! I strongly advise avoiding ever receiving treatment from Dr. Sandhya Ramanujam. Trusting this woman with my teeth was the biggest mistake I've made in my life. I believed this women's credentials and thought she was a genuinely caring and knowledgeable dentist. She is far from it and I hope me sharing this can save someone from the trauma I have endured as a result of letting her work on my teeth. Sandhya crowned all of my front teeth as part of a smile makeover. She claimed she was highly experienced with cosmetic dentistry and so I decided to make the investment and go for it. The process was rushed but being a naive patient with little experience with such intense dental procedures, I blindly trusted that she knew what she was doing. BIG MISTAKE! The crowns were fitted and they didn't look right - they were a bluish opaque color and very thick so they looked totally unnatural but she insisted they looked great and that I needed to get used to them. Within a few weeks of having them fitted, two of crowns fell off while I was eating. I was in a different city so I had to see a different dentist to address the issue and this is where the truth was revealed... The dentist I visited looked at my teeth and said "my god, who did this to you? This is a dental horror story"... they went on to say that this kind of work is unethical, frightening and that they had ruined my teeth and needed to be completely redone as soon as possible to avoid bacterial infections due to the 1-2mm gaps where the margins had not been prepared. They then explained that my teeth had been over-shaved and they were now tiny stubs so they would continue to fall off as there wasn't enough tooth to hold the crowns in place. My gums were inflamed and already beginning to recede, bleed and develop infection. I could not afford to replace the crowns at the time as I'd just paid Sandhya my life savings for the initial work. This process of replacing them has not only been highly emotionally draining and traumatic, it also cost me over $50,000 USD to address the IRREVERSIBLE damage of the work she did on me - including having to root canal more than half of my front teeth because of the poor preparation and infections which killed the nerves in my teeth, having gum surgery and posts added to my teeth to lengthen the teeth and all the crowns redone. Sandhya should lose her license and be sued for the terrible harm she has caused me (and no doubt many others). What's most scary is that after consulting with multiple dentists about the crowns, I contacted her to ask how we could resolve the situation and she took ZERO responsibility and shamelessly denied all responsibility and blamed me for being fussy and problematic. Unbelievable. All I know is, karma comes around. Please be careful and choose another dentist. I did research her reviews before I worked with her and thought I was well informed. Many reviews are fake and she talks the talk in her bio but I suspect her listed qualifications aren't accurate based on the severity of my case and the feedback I've been given from other dentists which is that it's the worst dental work they've ever seen and is criminal. Do thorough research, go to a dentist who has strong referrals from patients years after the initial work and most importantly; avoid Dr. Sandhya Ramanujam at all costs if you care about your teeth. read more

I would just like to thank Dr. Sandhya Ramanujam, Beth, and Marjorie for all their excellent work in restoring my dental health. I had not been to a dentist in quite awhile. Dr. Ramanujam and Beth were both so kind and caring as I eased into a comfortable dental chair. They went tooth by tooth, noting decay, gum issues, and some missing teeth. What I needed was a full restoration and that is what Bernardo Dental Care delivered. Marjorie, who runs front office operations, was able to provide accurate quotes in writing for the many necessary dental procedures, and had patience with my many questions, and scheduled appointments convenient with my schedule. I always felt comfortable with their pricing and with all the dental work done. We are close to completion and I have to say how this restoration has changed my life. First, the ability to chew food thoroughly has been the greatest blessing, both in getting food down and in digestion. Second, fresh breath and a a nice looking smile create the desire to keep up with brushing, flossing, and periodic teeth cleaning on schedule. I have been coming to this office for over 25 years. Was concerned after the practice was sold so went to a different dentist for a check up to test the waters and was quoted an extensive amount of work at a very high cost. Decided to come back here for a second opinion. Ended up only really needing 1 thing, which was a quick adjustment of a previous filling. I felt comfortable with Dr. Ramanujam, she was honest, transparent with communication and very caring. Marjorie, the office manager has always taken very good care of me. My children and I have been seeing Dr. Dutta for 20 years. I had almost paralyzing dental phobia before I met Dr. Dutta. I explained this to Marjorie before my first visit and I immediately felt reassured by her understanding of my fears. Dr. Dutta was amazing. She constantly explained and reassured me during the entire visit. I can hardly believe that it has been 20 years. She has expertly taken care of us at least every six months over these 20 years. I saw Dr. Tran, a new dentist at the practice, for a crown on the last molar. I have neck and jaw issues that make dentistry uncomfortable for me. Dr. Tran listened to my concerns and took measures to alleviate those issues. She explains what she is doing and is compassionate. She made sure I was comfortable during both procedures. Kept me waiting 40 minutes after my 9AM appointment to get seen. Twice as long as last time. Never an apology. The crown Dr. Dutta installed last year has given me so many issues that I finally went to another dentist who told me the crown needs to be replaced. Since Delta Dental only covers one crown every five years, I will need to pay $900+ out of pocket to fix something that should not need to be replaced this early. Dr. Dutta insists that nothing is wrong despite me complaining about temperature sensitivity and bite imbalances, instead telling me nothing is wrong with the crown and that she has been doing this for 26 years and asking how old the new dentist, and I, are, as if anybody younger than her should defer to her wisdom. Lastly, when I asked for a copy of my dental notes, the receptionist said she was too busy to help me and she would mail them to me. Fortunately I can choose to go to another office who is more respectful of me (especially my time). And so I will. Two stars because they have been friendly and accommodating in the past. I don't know if they were trying to punish me today by keeping me waiting 40 mins because I have chosen a new dentist, but if that was their intention, it was an immature one (ironically for someone who looks at 'youngsters' with skepticism). read more

I have been going to Dr. Dutta for 5 years now and I am so pleased with her office and office staff. I have always been nervous going to see the dentist but I have never experienced this problem with Dr. Dutta's office. Dr. Dutta has done a lot of work on my teeth with bridges, root canals etc. but she was so gentle and actually helped me to relax during all of this. Now she takes care of the hard work work she did and we are a team! Her staff is so professional, caring and kind. My husband is now going and a few of my friends and they feel the same way. When you look forward to going to the dentist, you know you found the best You won't find a more educated or knowledgeable dentist in San Diego . Unfortunately I went through three or four dentists before she was recommended to me , she is just now finishing my upper and lower snap in dentures which takes a long time by no fault of hers , but the need for bone grafts and waiting for the implants to heal . I've spent probably 20 hours working with her and I think I raised my hand one time to signal pain and that one time it was because some plastic insert had pinched my lip . Otherwise she works diligently to make sure you have a pain free experience . I used to just go for my cleanings but I decided to come here to get braces as well. I got them put on one year ago and i still have a few months left but my teeth are looking fabulous! They have met all my dental needs for several years now. The staff is so friendly. I feel as ease every time I am there. As far as the dental work, regular cleanings, etc. is painless. I am always given detail information on what needs to be done along with a timeline. In other words, I am never presured to get something done immediately if it can wait a while longer, due to finances. Everyone in this office is highly qualified. Gone here a few times, unfortunately I wasn't pleased with most of my visits. I've never gone to a dentist that doesn't finish a tooth in one visit. I ended up having three root canals, with non of them finished. Plus, they have people training but don't correct them when they are not doing things correctly. I was choking on my saliva because they didn't know where to place the suction. Also one root canal they didn't numb me properly and I was in pain!!!!! I have never had this problem with any dentist in my life until coming here. I now, have to go else where to have my teeth finished and lost a tooth because it was not capped with a temporary when it should have been. I could have gone to a dentist that could have done all this in each visit and finished the job without being butchered ! Don't recommend this dentist to people who need immediate work done. They will spread it out to long and screw you over. read more

After three years of visiting this office I am going to have to switch my primary dentist. The office staff and dentist were always very friendly but when it came to payments I thought they were trying to upsell me. Most recently when I went in for a routine cleaning they accidentally removed a piece of glue that held my permanent retainer in place. Accidents do happen but I should not have to pay for it if it isn't my fault. I scheduled a return visit several weeks later and then they hit me with the bill! They were able to discount the fee but a charge is still a charge for their mistake. Now I will be going to my husband's dentist from now on. read more
