His moral qualities were questionable while is ability to actually accomplish anything in the courtroom was non-existent. His only goal was to make sure he and his paralegal billed me for as much as they could. When I asked him to not respond to repetitive, pointless emails from opposing counsel he refused and threatened to quit. He was never prepared for court even though we would spend several hours the day before a hearing "preparing". When he lost my TPO/Family Violence hearing, he had the audacity to blame me and tell me he was embarrassed. When I questioned him about not asking pertinent questions at said hearing he replied "those are good questions." I also had suggested that we bring on one of his associate whom we had worked with to assist him for this hearing. The associate had more experience with these situations but Shiel assured me he could handle it. Fast forward 9 months on day we were trying to settle my divorce in court he screamed at me and threatened to walk out if I didn't take the deal that was offered. His ability to address such an emotional situation and negotiate on my behalf was nil. Yes, there is a witness to this situation. Here is a recap of what I had to settled for: of the 6 houses I got zero, of the 7 vehicles, 1 truck and boat I got to keep mine but wait, you have to sell it for a vehicle of lesser value (mean while my ex kept his $450k Ford GT40 Super car plus the others). I was married for 27 years and received 6 years of alimony and $450k of my ex's 401k. Shiel never filed the permanent restraining order nor did he make sure the IDO was included in the divorce decree. I had to spend another $36k to get that accomplished afterwards and thankfully with another attorney. Lord knows I wish I had known her beforehand. Shiel received well over $100k for his substandard services. He was out performed by a young real estate attorney who had only been practicing for 5 years. Yep, A REAL ESTATE attorney! Just a side note, did you know your attorney can also accept additional funds from the opposing party without your knowledge or disclosing it to you? This is a review of my experience with Shiel. Please keep your opinions to yourself as you were not a witness to the events that occurred (I do have several who were) nor do you know the grounds for which I filed for divorce.
