We won a free engagement session with Roberto. Unbeknownst to me, my now-husband planned to propose during the shoot itself (I did not really care about 'a ring', so I was totally surprised). Roberto arrived early to scout the location and asked someone to video the proposal while he captured amazing photos. He went above and beyond, embedding a location that was meaningful to us (the New York Public Library) into every photo we selected. The photos are beautiful, and we love them, he also incorporated our dog into 90% of the photos just like we asked! As a gift, he included the video and the shots of the proposal for free, which he did not have to do. He did so because he really cares about the happiness of his clients. I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the prices prior to the shoot, particularly if you win a free one. Also know that you have to go to his studio to view the photos. Finally, know that he specializes in fine art stuff like canvases, prints, and albums. It was the best decision I made, besides my groom of course, choosing Roberto to shoot our wedding. We were extremely nervous about doing this photo shoot with a 1 1/2 year old and also making it look natural and not awkward. Roberto pleasantly surprised us. It was not awkward one bit. We met Roberto four years ago, when he photographed our wedding. Now, he is photographing our first child. We couldn't imagine anyone else capturing the first moments of our daughter's life. Roberto is extremely professional and extremely talented. He has a unique way of capturing your special moment. No two photographs are alike. This is evident when looking through his blog. As a wedding photographer, he is able to melt into the backdrop and capture the raw emotion of your day. He is such a calming spirit which was invaluable on our wedding day . Let me just start by saying that the photos we had taken by Roberto were very nice. The shoot itself was warm and professional and we were happy with the end result. The rest of our experience with Roberto was not as enjoyable. Let's start with the process. You get one viewing to make your decisions. That's it. If you want to think about it and come back you have to pay for another viewing. Fair enough. But, Roberto refuses to give you a proof sheet, low quality digitals, or any other way to spend time with the photos before making your selections. Couple that with his used car salesman hard sell shtick, and it's a massive turnoff. Now, back to the digitals. Had we done our research, we would've found a ton of other great photographers in Park Slope that offer digital selects as part of your session fee. But not Roberto. When I asked if we could have some thumbnails to flip through he acted like I was asking for part of his soul, telling me "I do not do that." Do what??? Give people a proof sheet like literally every other professional photographer on the planet? Put a watermark on them and let people spend time with the photos they paid you to take. BUT, ok...Roberto doesn't want people to have digital copies. Ok, I mean it's not like he's going to ask $700 for a print right? Wrong, that is precisely what he is going to ask. Want a soft-cover book printed??? Sure, just $1400. His prices for prints are the highest I've ever seen by maybe double. Should Roberto make money for his art? Absolutely. But these prices are exorbitant. And after dropping over $1200 for two pictures, you would think he could throw you a bone and let you have a few low-res jpegs. But nope. So we've got a high-pressure process that is very uncomfortable. No proof sheet or digital selects, and massively over-priced prints. Not great. Do your research and call a few different photographers before succumbing to Roberto's convenient location. The others we have since found will give you a number of digitals, and offer much more reasonable prices for their prints. Sorry, but it is absolutely amazing to me that he refuses to give out any digitals. Roberto, you could make even more money this way. First of all, had we gotten a few selects to share with family like we asked - our parents, aunts, uncles, friends etc. could've decided to have a print or two made. Or, offer a digital package with the prints people buy. If you get a print, you get the option of 20 digitals for $150. Whatever. read more
