This was so much fun. It's a lot larger than it appears with books stacked high on shelves and a huge variety of books. Areas are marked so you can find the area you are searching for. They have all kinds of books, comics, etc. I like some British mystery writers and they had several of their books which are not typically easy to find in a used book store. Robert's is a totally rad bookshop! It's huge, and probably second to Portland's Powell's. Lots of rare old books too. They also have some collectibles like cards, comic books, statues, etc. And they carry DVDs, records, CDs, and some Blu-ray. read more

I love books and I have almost never been to a place with better selection. I can think of only very few places that have even close to the same selection, let alone any more. Whenever I'm near Lincoln City I'll have to stop by. I gave them a four star review shortly after my first encounter. However, my wife and I have really fallen in love with Robert's. Every time we go to Lincoln City, or the coast at all, we always, always make every effort to stop here. They have the best selection of any bookstore I've ever seen. Super large selection of used books. Super tight spaces. If you love books you'll love this place. Found a book about Lincoln with first copy-write dated in the 1800s & the last 1924. Also purchased two Mad Magazines and one Calvin & Hobbs cartoon book. Prices are very reasonable and service was friendly. This place is pretty amazing. You could lose yourself in here for hours. The vintage book selection is incredible and very reasonably priced. Everything is well organized considering the volume they have. As I was there some people were dropping off books they were donating/selling so it seems like more books are arriving every day. Often times in small towns such as Lincoln City, OR that are fortunate enough to still have a bookstore their presence can be a bit of a letdown. The volumes are either old dusty books absent of any charm - eg popular texts from the 80's and 90's that no longer seem relevant to the time or were no more than low brow fiction for the masses - or they are full of new books, which takes the fun of bargain hunting out of play. Robert's Bookshop escapes both of these pitfalls. Indeed, there is a certain magic about the place, dare I say an even eerie quality about it. Perhaps thousands of volumes of iconic pulp literature are to be found here, and as you wander its many small rooms you can find a sense of stillness as you find yourself alone being gazed upon by the eyes of a seductress on a 40's era poster. You will find in this space literature of every sort. On the day I visited I left with the second volume of In Search of Lost Time, Almost Transparent Blue (a very rare text by Ryu Murakami that was to be had for 7 bucks!), and Sputnik Sweetheart by the better known Murakami. A thread of self control kept me from taking home a complication of Borges' fiction and a few works by Camus. This is a bookstore that punches well above its weight, and walking among the rooms and shelves is worthy of an hour in and of itself, though you will certainly find the books you walk out with worthy of your time as well. read more

Who would have known, I am a great lover of books especially old books. Robert's is a friendly, uncrowded way to enjoy, look, explore, and take home some of the most unique old books you can find. Even the newer book you have been dying to read but didn't want to pay that high retail price for. I love the escape from reality, and the adventure that comes from reading a great book. Roberts is a great used book store and is a reason to drive to the coast all by its self. Sure I love an occasional visit to the often weird and over crowded, and regularly overpriced alternative of Powell's, but I would much rather pay a reasonable price at this still small family run business where my visit really means something to the owner. The people here are very knowledgeable, friendly and go out of their way to help you find the treasure your looking for. I have completed many a book collection with unique finds here at Roberts without feeling like I paid too much. The prices are really reasonable and the selection is only out matched by Powell's. The store is huge, well organized and the sections are surprisingly easy to find in a maze of rooms and levels. All of which adds to the experience. Its like stepping into a book museum that I didn't have to fork out $20 to see. I can wander in here for hours looking. Some great points of interest. The Christmas section is really cool. Some great reads for the family and kids. The Westerns, my favorite, may be the largest used western section that exists in a used store. Its easily three times or more the size of Powell's. The Westerns in hardback almost outweigh that of paperback here also. Some books in this section are really hard to find. The kids section is a little small. This surprises me, however I suspect they just sell fast. There is also some really cool old posters, art and memorabilia through out the store, adding to the museum feel. Not a fan of the sexist pictures around the store, but there are a lot of books, and I found all I was hoping to find. Prices vary widely (some priced quite low, others surprisingly high). The women working here were super nice. read more

We love this place in a way Powell's can't ever match. The people are amazing instead of snotty, the selection is huge, it's all used (and priced accordingly), it is an ACTUAL meandering maze of books, and you won't often find more than 2 of a title, unless there is some redeeming characteristic of the extra copies. This bookstore is mind-bogglingly awesome; they have random theater seats upon which to relax, a selection of books that is almost incomprehensible, it's in an ancient concrete building on the coast that should be filled with mildew (but isn't), there are hidden rooms full of special book categories (look under the back stairs), and the owners and managers actually know how to find just about anything in the shop without taking time to look it up or hunt around the wrong areas. The staff here are great, and we spent an easy three hours wandering here finding over $100 of books we just could not live without, and all at a great price. There are lots of bookstores out there, this one just happens to be better than any of the others. Oh! And while some people have said the place isn't crowded, it can sure get busy in there, and the checker is fast, the managers are busy, and the decor is... Well... You really do have to see the collection of antiques and oddities in order to believe it. Everything from whale parts to medieval weaponry and original art from 40's pulp covers. Check out the bathroom! If you can find it, it has some pretty cool stuff in there, too! Two last things: 1. Bring your trade-in books! They give good credit and you WILL find a way to use it all up! 2. They have more than one store! The stock is well-organized and reasonably-priced and the staff is knowledgeable. If you don't see something, ASK! Books are often cross-shelved; they have so many sections and categories. Many many great cookbooks, a HUGE sci-fi/fantasy section, a good cache of tarot card decks and metaphysical wonderments.... this place is great! We carried in a couple of boxes of books thinned from our shelves after our recent move -- Robert's took a fair share in trade for credit, and the older and duplicates of his stock went to the local library for their frequent fund-raising sales. Yes, this is one of the best used bookstores we've visited (you can hardly swing a dead cat up here in the Pacific Northwest without hitting a used bookstore.... what's up with that?) Powells is certainly bigger, but the selection here is deeply browsable and you can tell they are selective on both condition and the quality of the books they buy for stock. There's a thinking person running the show -- and he obviously has good taste and good sense. Husband, Dr. W came out with 3 books -- and less than $20 left in credit, but I suspect he will be going back often. This is his favorite kind of place to spend an afternoon.... read more

It's a labyrinth, practically, easy to get lost in but so very worth it. Everything is reasonably priced, and everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. I could spend hours here--literally. Wonderfully fun to wander their winding stacks and discover more than just books! I wanted to stop into a used bookstore while on vacation. I'm amazed at how many books there are and they've absolutely gained a loyal customer. This is better than Powell's. The sheer amount of books stuffed into a store, which definitely isn't small but not exactly large either, is jaw dropping. The books are reasonably priced and I got a stack of them. I think 5 star ratings are too common in general. To me, a place must really ascend to a different astral plane to merit 5 of 5. And for Robert's? Five stars are not enough. Seriously. It starts off with feeling like you enter a shop in Diagon Alley when you step in here. The tiny aisles lead you astray from room to room, taking you off track if you're not careful. Maybe it leads you to a new reading treasure, or maybe you navigate back on track. Either is a win for me. The variety is bountiful, and the staff is always helpful. Huge range of subject matter. My absolute favorite bookstore in Oregon. Whenever we are in the vicinity, I make a point of visiting this delightful shop (much to my husband's chagrin--he has a short attention span). Robert's has the best selection of gold- and silver-age SF, which is complimented by old pulp cover posters on the walls. Bob's is a must-stop destination on the coast for any book-lover, and it takes work for a store to stand out in a state with Portland's monster Powell's Books. Allow lots of time for browsing, and don't get so tied up looking at the books that you miss the art and antiques. Yeah, the store is also a worthwhile stop just as a free museum. Most of the art consists of original paintings used on paperback book covers (generally displayed the a copy of the book itself). There are also antique posters, signs, toys, models, all sorts of things that will delight fans of pop-culture and modern history. The rule is, "look up." Stuff is generally high on the walls or on top of shelving units. There's also more in the back of the store than the front. As for the books, the selection is large and diverse, with many older and antiquarian books (plus other printed items as well) and I've always found the prices to be quite reasonable. If there's any drawback to the place, its that its such a maze you can browse for hours and STILL miss something. (Happens to me every time I'm in there, and I'm in there pretty often.) They have a map up front. Check it out, and don't be afraid to ask the staff where to find stuff. Also, they keep bankers hours, so plan your visit as early as you can to allow for plenty of browsing time. read more
