We've been shopping at Robert's Seafood Market for a few years now. My husband went a couple of weeks ago and bought crab legs and 4 filet mignons. Crab legs were delicious, then last night we had the filets. I cooked all 4 as we were celebrating our daughter's birthday. We're eating them when my husband said something was wrong with his and it tasted AWFUL. We decided the sealed plastic must have had a pinhole leak in it and it got rotten? It looked like ground beef all mushed together then we realized it had an odor too. So we threw it away and the three of us all cut our filets and shared ours with him. So, today he goes there and shows them THE PHOTO- they didn't want to look at the leftover mushy filet itself. They apologized, and gave him a gift card for one filet. Which is fair, but not very understanding or kind or generous. It spoiled our dinner, we all had to share our 6 oz filets with him, and he doesn't think he'll want to eat a filet again FOR A LONG TIME. I'm just saying I think Robert's could have been nicer about it. read more

The fish is excellent and their is a great selection. It's a little higher price than the supermarket, but the quality is better too.

If you're trying to make memorable meals with fresh seafood, this is absolutely the source. They have enough supplemental groceries to put together a high-quality foodie meal without making another stop. They have curated pantry, a few cheeses, vegetables, and freshly baked breads as well as a vast selection of fresh-colored, just flown-in fish fillets and shellfish. I wish it weren't so far from my house. It's definitely worth the drive ideally once a week. read more

Robert's Seafood..ahhhhh. This is the BEST place to get fresh seafood in Central IL. Take that from a prior manager/investor in a full service Seafood Restaurant chain. I do the cooking in my house. Robert's always has a great assortment of fresh, frozen, and prepared seafood. It is also the only place to get specific ingredients for many dishes. If you want to prepare a fine dining meal with top quality food and seasonings, this is your place. Also, the deli meat is very good! You can come in here and spend a considerable amount of money without trying but it will be well worth it. The prices are higher than the "Big Box Stores" but if you are worried about price over quality you are not wanting to prepare a fine dining meal. The staff are courteous but not pushy...which I like. The staff usually have good information if you need tips on certain foods and that can be a bonus to many people. read more

We are grateful that such a great seafood store is in Springfield. We get Scottish salmon every week. Have yet to get a bad piece. We also buy some asparagus and once in a while shrimp. We use a seasoning and marinade glaze for the salmon that we also buy at Roberts. Awesome! The staff is always friendly enough and helpful. read more

HOWEVER, Robert's turns that notion on its head with its commitment to fresh seafood and their knowledgeable and courteous staff. Robert's Seafood Market is located on Jefferson St. in Springfield Illinois. If you are looking for fresh seafood I think you would be hard pressed to find more variety elsewhere. I am writing a 3-star review based on my mixed experiences here. I have been here 3 times in the last year. My first time was getting calamari for Christmas Eve in 2012. We purchased it and cooked it that evening. It was great. Tried and true recipe. Made many times. Identical each time made. This year we bought salmon for Christmas. It was fantastic. Great cut of fish. Very clean. No bones. Awesome. Cooked it with a salt, pepper, orange zest rub and a yogurt, caper, parsley sauce. Delicious. However, went back the day before NYE to pick up some Calamari. Cooked it the next day and it reeked like ammonia. It was terrible! I had not experienced this before and after doing some reading found out it is often due to the cleaning process not being as careful. 30 bucks worth of calamari, poof! The staff is hit or miss. I have been here and everyone was really nice. Most recently, the counter staff acted like they were being bothered. There were like 4-5 guys behind the counter and after getting my calamari I was looking at other things in the display on my way to the register and no one asked me if I wanted help with anything else or if I had any questions. They missed additional sales. read more

When I got home and we cooked our purchase everything was great except the lobster meat. It was bland, and rubbery. I called Roberts fish Mkt. and got the nicest young lady, I told her my problem and she looked it up and said they'd had no other complaints but she sent me a gift card for the price of the lobster meat. I've been to Robert's twice, and both times have been good experiences. Everyone there is friendly and happy to help. There is more than just seafood here. Robert's has a deli, steaks, sausages, wine, pasta, and various snacks (many from local producers). Many items you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else in Springfield (like the amazing wild boar sausage). The prices are higher than the local supermarkets, but so is the quality. read more

Well, I cannot comment on Robert's Seafood traffic impact on Jefferson, but I can say it is the best place in Springfield for fresh fish and specialty foods. LOVE this place. I first visited it about 3 weeks ago and have been getting all my fish and meat here ever since. Everything I have gotten there has been fresh, including the produce. The house made stuffed mushrooms are delicious on the grill. They also have some of my favorite brands of condiments and local goods. Andrea has been really helpful and is a true fellow foodie! I absolutely love everything about Robert's Seafood Market. The assortment of fresh seafood, the soup selection, the buffalo meat selection, and especially the knowledgeable and pleasant staff. It is nice to have someone know your name when you walk in. I like the fact that they recommend different items that you may be reluctant to try and offer cooking tips as well. The produce, breads, marinades, and the local products they carry makes Roberts a unique shopping experience.
