We tried what we could to keep him at home. Senior delivery meals were often found half eaten. The turnover with in-home care was so frequent we were never confident or comfortable having so many different people coming and going. He wasn't eating healthy meals, he wasn't staying hydrated, he was at risk for falls, and he was either sleeping or watching TV most of the day. His quality of life was gone. Life has changed for Dad. He is getting regular, "home-cooked" meals; he exercises daily, he participates in activities with other residents and keeps updated on current events. His Suite and the surrounding common areas are well-appointed, but homey. The number of suites is small enough that he knows all of his neighbors and the staff. Activity Director Robin has become a member of the family; Campus Nurse Sarah is attentive to anything that he needs. He remarks regularly on how quickly a staff member arrives when he calls - even if it is just to open the twist off cap off a drink. He has his own Suite decorated just as he likes it; the grounds are beautiful and provide an opportunity for bird watching and gardening. He is truly living in a community and I can't begin to say enough about his new home.

They seem to find a way to either covertly turn the blame around, make excuses or boast that despite your complaints that basically they are still the best assisted living facility in the area... if they are that is very sad. Their building is fairly nice for the most part from what I can remember and they speak great when you are moving someone in but if only that energy could be somehow put into genuinely consistent customer service and resolving complaints.

When I quit my job as a Medical Assistant I wasn't really certain what I wanted to do. When I saw an ad in the Journal Times for Home Instead Senior Care it struck a chord with me. I went on the Home Instead website to learn more about it. It seemed like a job that I could be happy doing. Caring for seniors in their homes is definitely different from anything I've done before, but I truly enjoy it. I know that every day I'm with them I make a difference in their lives. I treat them like I would treat a family member: with patience, kindness, and dignity. The most rewarding part of care giving is when they say, "Thank you for all that you've done today". And I can honestly tell them, "It's my pleasure." I feel that my service is valued both by the Home Instead office staff and by the clients themselves. I do think that for the high level of responsibility we have for keeping our clients safe and well cared for, the pay should be higher. Thank you for the opportunity to provide this information. Sincerely, Malisa (Lisa) V
