I saw this Salisbury House and felt that it was perfect to have dinner here. Salisbury House is a Winnipeg institution. It's famous for its nip, which is a burger. There was plenty of parking in front of the eatery. I backed into a spot and walked in. It was fairly quiet. A woman welcomed me and said that I could sit anywhere. I chose a table with comfy booth seating. I got a menu and looked through everything. Yvonne was my server. She was attentive and friendly. Another server also helped her out by getting Diet Pepsi refills. I ordered the following items: - Diet Pepsi - Bowl of beef noodle soup - Bacon mushroom swiss nip with fries, coleslaw, and pickles - Gravy for the fries My Diet Pepsi came out first. It was icy cold and yummy on a hot summer day. I got a few refills during my stay. I got a bowl of beef noodle soup. It was hearty, with huge chunks of beef and lots of noodles. The broth was decent, although less sodium could have made it even better. My bacon mushroom swiss nip platter came out next. I was eager to relive this platter. My nip consisted of back bacon, side bacon, mushrooms, grilled onions, swiss cheese, Sals sauce, and a beef patty. It was delicious. I need to remember to get a side order of gravy with the fries. They worked so well together. I polished off this side effortlessly. Yum! The coleslaw and pickles provided a crunchy contrast. The coleslaw was vinegar-based, but not overly acidic. The veggies were crisp and fresh. I loved the sliced pickles. This platter was perfect. I had no room for dessert. Instead, I asked for the bill. I then went up to the counter to pay with a credit card. I tipped and tapped. All was great. Yvonne experienced a coughing fit after I had paid. She had been sick the week before and now had a lingering cough. I felt for her. Whenever I get a cough, it takes weeks to get rid of it. I hoped that she'd kick her cough to the curb. She reassured me that she will. I used the washroom before I headed back to the apartment. It was clean. No complaints. My good deed of the evening was holding two doors open for a man who clearly needed help walking out the door with his walker. I wished him a good evening. He thanked me and reciprocated. His son got out of a minivan parked in front of us and gave me a nod for helping his dad out. It was nice. It was great dropping by this Salisbury House. I had the bacon poutine since I haven't had poutine for a while until then. Nothing too offensive, although the bacon was more crispy bacon bits rather than actual bacon. I guess I shouldn't be surprised given it's late night poutine, as everything else tasted really good for late night food. Service was great and the restaurant was clean. A bit far from my house, but I definitely would rank this Sal's quite high in the list of Sal's I've been to.

I ordered the French Onion soup and the Brie, Date and Bacon sandwich. Both were INCREDIBLE. The seasoning was perfect, just the right temperature, and the cutie who served me was an extra nice touch. SO friendly and when I told him I was moving to town and didn't have a readers card yet because I was waiting to join the Writers Guild, he applied the discount anyway, because he knew they'd be seeing a lot of me in the future. For dessert, I ordered a piece of carrot cake for later. It turned out to be MASSIVE, with delicious whipped cream, mounds of cream cheese, and chock full of pineapple, nuts and carrot. When my meal arrived, I was surprised to see the salad but started eating some of it. When Joseph, our server, realized that I'd received a salad instead of the soup, he offered to make it right by bringing the soup. I'm not a fan of salads but said not to worry about it. The mac n' cheese was delicious ... I don't order mac n' cheese very often and this was the best mac n' cheese EVER!! I could have eaten more more more of this! Joseph was friendly and nice and took good care of us.
