Nothing positive to say about Rob's Heat & Air out of Halifax, MA. Brand new home purchased in 2014 and Rob installed all of the HVAC for the builder/seller. Two major installation issues discovered this heating season...
First, I called in a local reputable HVAC company after the furnace started shutting down multiple times a day. As soon as the technician looked at the set-up he immediately pointed out to me what the issue was (he was 15 feet away and had not even touched the equipment yet). The venting from the furnace was pitched incorrectly and condensate water was getting trapped between the furnace and the outside. The technician's comment was, "wow, something like that is HVAC 101."
Second, while there the technician observed another error code and problem that was being masked by the first issue - the high limit switch was tripping because the internal temp at the heat exchanger was exceeding its limit. He investigated and stated it appeared the system with designed with not enough return airflow back to the furnace. He advised at that time, because it was a new system and because there were at least two design/install problems, I may want to contact the installer.
In comes Rob. Rob spent 30 minutes trying to troubleshoot before adjusting a damper and saying it was all set. Five minutes after he left it tripped again and I called Rob back. Another 30 minutes trying to troubleshoot and he couldn't figure it out. Instead of calling the manufacturer while he was at my house, he said he would call them later and let me know what the next steps would be. Later in the day a voicemail was left saying he spoke with the manufacturer and the high limit tripping is normal operation for the furnace and not to worry about it. It's normal operation for a system to continually shut itself down because a built-in safety feature keeps getting tripped? Rob must have gone out of business since then because he hasn't returned by messages. I view this as pretty shady behavior.
To recap, the workmanship and professionalism of Rob's Heat & Air was very careless. I'm left with a newer system now in need of a second major repair and the installer would rather ignore it and feed me phony answers rather than respond to it. I guess anyone can throw their name on the side of a truck and call themselves a professional or business owner. Maybe he's done okay by other customers, but future customers BEWARE! read more
