This place is a scam. We scheduled a service call during a brutal heatwave after one of our three AC units stopped working. The technician, Irvin, was polite and professional, but several red flags quickly appeared. Before any services were even performed, Irwin earnestly asked for a 5-star review so he could enter a raffle--clearly a strategy to boost ratings prematurely. Then, the inspection revealed a missing drier filter and a cascade of supposedly urgent issues. Chris, the manager, was called in due to the "size" of the job. He arrived sporting dress shoes, an iPad Pro, and his name embroidered on a vest--but did little to assist. Next, we were told that all three units should be serviced to avoid "massive damage," despite only one not functioning. The quote? $4,490 for one unit or $15,730 for all three. They even offered a 5-year financing plan at 12.99% interest to really milk us. We got second opinions from two other HVAC providers. Both diagnosed that the drier filler needed to be added and the broken unit just had a leak outside. Both HVAC providers - offered to fix all three units for roughly $4,900 total. One even highlighted Green Energy's pricing as egregiously inflated--for example, Green Energy quoted $266 per pound of refrigerant (410A), which typically costs $4-8/lb at wholesale (3325% markup). And 7 pounds? That's far more than needed for three units. Other HVAC companies typically will charge $50-100/lb. This experience felt more like high-pressure salesmanship than honest HVAC service. I highly recommend getting multiple quotes before committing--Green Energy's pricing and tactics raise serious concerns. Awful service. We originally hired them to fix a heat issue in one our of HVAC units. As part of that we decided to schedule duct cleaning. We paid 50% of the bill as per their policy for scheduling a duct cleaning. Later the heat broke and it took almost a month to fix. Didn't even consider looking at the original issue and ended up replacing parts that weren't broken that we ended up being charged for. Eventually a tech came out and was able to get the heat to work by just flipping the switch off and on. We delayed the duct cleaning and then a few weeks later I was contacted saying that I still owed $1800. When I tried to explain that it sounded like I was being charged for the duct cleaning that hadn't occurred yet and asked to see an itemized invoice I was told that's not how they bill, they just charge a single price for all of the work done. I said I wasn't paying until I knew exactly what I owed them for. The rep said that she would work with the owners to get me an invoice. I also decided to cancel the duct cleaning as I did not want to do any more business with them. I had to call back multiple times over the next few months and was told the same, they would work on getting me an invoice and I'd hear back soon. Recently I called back and found out that the rep I was working with was no longer with the company. I ended up getting text messages from another rep asking me to explain my issue. I asked him to call me because I wasn't dealing with this over text and he just repeated the request to explain over text and eventually never responded. I then got an email from another rep saying they were working on getting me an invoice and they'd respond by the end of the following day. It's been a week of radio silence. I'm fairly certain that we are owed a refund after cancelling the cleaning service, but have no way of verifying because all of the bills don't contain itemized prices. Finally decided to contact the MA Better Business Bureau today in hopes that they can intervene. HOW CAN A SERVICE COMPANY NOT PROVIDE AN INTEMIZED INVOICE? Their technician broke a gas shutoff valve during a simple repair, was unable to shut off the gas at the meter, and left the property with an active gas leak. The fire department had to shut down gas and electricity to the entire building. I was told the job was completed even though it wasn't, and I had to hire another company to fix the damage. The gas valve they installed later failed and was installed incorrectly, and despite the work being under warranty, they ignored multiple no‑heat calls for days. Going back to our initial installation of a tankless water heater and three mini split units we have encountered multiple installation mistakes with incompetent technicians and multiple post-installation problems. What makes matters worse is the lack of customer service that has worsened over the last year with multiple cancellations of even typical annual maintenance and lack of communication regarding rescheduling appointments. WARNING!! WARNING!! DO NOT let these people into your home. They called me twice a day and sent text messages offering an annual furnace tune-up. If I didn't know how to shut off the gas to my furnace, I would have been left with gas leaking for two days every time my furnace turned on. Was that a hazard? I took them up on their offer, and they came, showed me some non-emergency issues, and then tried to pressure me into hiring them to fix them. While speaking to the tech, my furnace turned on, and I noticed a strong smell of gas. I pointed it out, and he said it was because they had pulled the bleeder valve to test it earlier. He left, and five hours later, I was noticing a strong smell of gas in my living room. When I checked, I realized the strong smell occurred whenever the furnace came on. I called them and left a message. They called back in the morning and put me on a list with an arrival window of between 8 AM and 4 PM. At 6:15 PM, they called and told me I would have to wait another day. After some back-and-forth on the phone, they sent someone that night. He went into the basement--I don't know what he did--but he came up and told me that he had to condemn my system and shut off the gas. He then asked if I was available the next day so he and his boss could come by and discuss my options. I declined and called another company the next day. They came out and fixed it in two hours. Mind you, my furnace was working perfectly fine before these people came out, with no issues. The diagnosis from the second company was several loose bolts and screws in the burner manifold causing gas to leak, as well as a loose gas bleeder valve. This company came to my house, created a gas hazard, and then tried to scare me into purchasing an expensive unnecessary repair/replacement from them. THAT SHOULD BE CRIMINAL!! read more

Green Mechanical did a terrible job installing my heat pumps. We spent about $45,000 and it ruined my house. If the temperature goes below freezing we cannot get our main floor to get above 60°. When I brought this to their attention they just told me I was using my heat wrong and that it's a different kind of heat, but they could not get it to work properly either. The fact of the matter is when they installed it I thought it was too small of a unit and they guaranteed me it was fine. It turns out it was too small of a unit. Now I'm going to need to spend $12,000 from a reputable company to get heat inside of my house. Not to mention the really bad installation job they did. While my basement workshop is not a finished basement, it was pretty functional as a workshop, and they ignored any kind of order in the basement and hacked it all up. They just removed one of my work lights that was installed over my workbench and left it half hanging from the ceiling. They also moved my electrical panel over a few inches for what seemed to be laziness to install a receptacle on the wall. They could not fit my furniture back in place so they left it in the middle of the basement and I needed to buy a new shelf unit to replace it. On top of that when they were selling me the system they promised they would remove my old system that was broken, but when they didn't do the job they said "oh it's not in the contract". So if you do decide to go with this company, and I hope for your sake that you don't, you must read the contract very carefully to make sure that everything the salesperson told you is going to be in the final contract. I was quoted another $3,000 to get all of my old system removed. Basically it's going to be $15,000to fix the mistake I made by going to Green Mechanical. I am not one to leave a bad review, I much prefer leaving good ones, but I just want to save other people from this mess I am in. We used Green Energy Mechanical to change our house from oil heat to electric heat pumps. We already had forced air, but they replaced all of the ducts on the first floor and extended them to the third floor. The owner Jonathan was the first person who came to our house. He and his colleague carefully took measurements and temperature readings throughout the house and then showed us their proposal. The whole consultation took a couple hours and was at no cost to us. Green Energy was the fifth and final quote that we got from HVAC companies and it was the one we chose to go with. They seemed to be up to date on modern technologies and talked about going to conferences and learning about new techniques. The plan for the HVAC renovation was elaborate and EXPENSIVE. I don't necessarily think that it was too expensive for what we got. In fact, I genuinely think we got a deal! They gave us less expensive options but we chose to go with the most expensive one. That was our choice. Three guys came to our house 4-5 days a week for about 2-3 weeks. The main guy was named Endrit who was clearly an experienced professional. We loved the ethnic and racial diversity of the crews. They were all sooooo nice and friendly. I felt very comfortable with them. They were also very clean, always putting down tarps on the floor. The only issue was with the electricity. They failed to identify that we didn't have enough electricity coming into the house from the street to support two heat pumps. They were kind of embarrassed but we understand that Jonathan isn't an electrician and didn't know. So, upgrading our electrical box was an unexpected expense that we HAD to do midway through this job. They set it up so that we could have AC in the summer, but we had to upgrade our electrical before using the heat. Communicating with the company went pretty smoothly. We could email office people or text managers and installers. They were pretty responsive. In fact, we came away with the thought that Green Energy is our favorite major contractor that we've ever worked with! I know that we were annoying at times but they never ever let on that they were bothered. They patiently answered our questions again and again! Green Energy did a final check of the HVAC system in the summer (with AC) and in the fall (with heat) to make sure that everything worked properly. They submitted our rebates for us to the state and it was SOOO nice to get a little money back. In the long term, we are eager to continue working with Green Energy. As part of this HVAC renovation, we have a warranty with them. We need to have them come and check on things every year which gives me peace of mind that the people who know our system best will be the folks maintaining it. read more

When you need HVAC work, the second worst thing is to find a company that does incompetent work. But the very WORST thing is to find a company that will try to rip you off, because you're not a HVAC professional and they think they can steal you blind and you won't know any better. I don't want to get into too much details here, but I asked these guys to come look at a problem. I thought it might be a relatively small fix. They quoted me a price well over $4,000. That's not an amount I would pay without getting a second opinion. I got another company, and they ended up fixing my entire issue for $750. Wow. These guys were not just ripping me off, but they were really greedy. I would have paid if they said $1,000, or maybe even $1,500. But once they said 4 or 5 thousand, I got suspicious. I was right. So, yeah. If you have too much money and want to get ripped off and overcharged, this is the company to call. BTW they try to push a "annual membership" where they charge you about $250 each year, so when they do come out to for service they "only" charge half the $150 minimum visit price. So, that means you are paying $250+$75= $325 for that one trip. Nice deal! read more

Purchased a $20k Heat Pump system last October from Green Energy Mechanical. Now the system hasn't worked for over a month from our first service appointment as the system is blowing hot air. Took 4 service appoint , and 3 refrigerant recharges, before a tech found the issue causing refrigerant loss. Do not use this company if you need air conditioning in the summer. No updates from Green Energy on timeline for repair. Calling in and they always have the same answer, waiting for parts, no eta available. Limping through summer using a window AC unit off Amazon. We have been waiting for a part for A/C for a month. I was calling regularly to check on status. Finally appointment was set up for Wednesday, July 17, someone called and said technician was out sick and needed to reschedule, for Friday, July 19th, I called the office to see what the ETA was and Ugene said there was no appointment in the schedule for today. They had the appointment as Thursday, July 25th. I repeated to him there was a mistake on there part, no one called to reschedule this appointment again. He said let me look into this and call you back. I get a call back and he said they had two technician out sick today and that we were on the list for a call. In the beginning when we first started using Green they were better, but definitely there has been a decline, seems like there are some issues with communication, back office and customer service. read more

They came back with an invoice for 345 as I was shopping for other options, 4 weeks later they called back with another invoice of 445 and said that because I didn't agree to go with the membership plan this amount I have to pay. why did you send me an invoice of 345 in the first place when I told you I didn't want to go with the plans and now a new invoice? Because we don't plan to be in our home long term we were looking for an inexpensive fix rather than replace the entire unit. I gave them 5 star review last year for their professionalism and comparative price. However, thing changes after a year unfortunately. My same AC leaked on Sat, i called them for service. The Tech said that he would come in in 30 mins. 45 mins later he called back to confirm that I would have to pay $175 for service fee because my annual maintenance contract with them expired 2 months ago. He also said that if I wanted to renew contract, $175 would be credited to my account and the office would call me next week to handle paperworks. I agreed and be fixed it. When i called the service today. The lady was rude. She could not answer any question i had ( how many time/ year for clean&check service, how many unit that will be covered.,, ). When i mentioned the $175 credit, she said that Tech was giving wrong information. It was not part of contract. I know people make mistake but it was verbal agreement between my business and your employee before he worked. Whatever he said, you stand behind and take responsibility. I called Green Energy Mechanical as my tenant did not have heat about a month ago. Their master plumber came and replaced the Water Circulator Pump for the Navien water heater and charged ~$900 for the small job. They sell the same part at a plumbing supply store down the street for $90. About two weeks later there was still no heat. I called Green Energy to come back and Manny, the tech who came, did not know how to open the lockbox where the keys to the basement were. He called me three times because he couldn't figure it out and threatened to reschedule my appointment. He finally figured it out after I told him to Google it. He diagnosed the problem as a faulty thermostat, even though the thermostat was 2 years old. About two weeks later again Manny showed up to install the thermostat and called me to let me know that the Water Circulator pump blew out because the GFCI blew out beneath it and they said the wire from the Circulator Pump to the control board needed to be replaced. Manny admitted to me that he did not run any tests or diagnostics when he came two weeks prior and said I probably did not need a new thermostat. With a discount, they charged me $131 for a thermostat I didn't need. Now after an electrician comes to put in a new GFCI, Green Energy says they can replace the recently installed circulator pump for $700. I had an electrician come replace the CFGI and he noticed that plumber who installed the new circulator pump pinched the wires within pump and caused some kind of short circuit. The wire from the circulator pump to the control board was tested and was fine. Manny gave a diagnosis on electrical work even though he is a plumber. It has been over a month and the tenant still doesn't have heat because of the lack of professionalism and laziness from this company. Also, I have paid ~$1,100 between all the visits and repairs, still without heat. Do not use Green Energy Mechanical as they charge ridiculous prices and do not own up to their own mistakes. Because of the lack of effort from their plumber, I have wasted weeks of time and money when this could have been solved at this point. read more

The system just had its first failure, and they resolved it quickly and for just the $99 service call fee. I am incredibly happy with Green Energy Mechanical and cannot recommend them enough. They were responsive, professional, and completed a beautiful job. We had a very challenging project where we wanted to convert from oil and radiators for our heat and window ACs for our cooling to all electric. We had to go with a ductless system because of our home. The job included: removing oil tank, boiler, radiators and corresponding piping, installing an electric water heater, and installing 8 mini-splits on all three levels of our home on two separate systems. They charged about the same as other competitors, but offered up to $7,500 in rebates with MassSave and a much faster turn around time. Once we signed the quote, we qualified for the MassSave $25,000 0% APR loan quickly and installation was confirmed for the next week. The job took 6 days, and their crew was amazing. They cleaned up at the end of each day, would give us a verbal report on what had been completed that day, and what they planned to do the next. I wasn't going to write a review until I saw my wife's review was removed. Pretty sketchy. Here's the deal. All the people I personally dealt with were professional and friendly etc. UNFORTUNATELY - our basement flooded after they worked on our heating system twice. They consulted over the phone w/ Navien. Navien is the brand of tankless water heater we have. The unit overheated and gushed water out of a pipe for several hours. My wife heard the flood happen and alerted me... I waded through several inches of water and cut the power. Thankfully, the water stopped. Several hours later the Green Energy rep arrived. He was just as horrified as we were. He played with the unit for a bit and said he needed to get parts and return etc. Lastly, he said "Green Energy stands by our work and we won't leave you hanging with this mess. The front office is working on a solution." ... After a few hours and several calls to the office. I finally got word from one of the sales reps. "The OWNER said we are NOT responsible and will NOT help cover the costs to clean up the water in your basement. Maybe you can get Navien to cover the costs?" END RESULT working w/ Green Energy Mechanical (Who we found on the Navien website) - We spent close to $1,000 and were left w/ a completely flooded basement and ZERO help to clean it up. I am so disappointed in this company. We've been trying to work with them to get our hot water fixed in our Navien system. The initial visit to just come out is $99. They kept coming back with parts and charging us each time they came $150. Then we did an entire flush of our system for $600 and finally they told us the control board needed to be replaced again another $150 and the next morning we walked down to our basement being entirely flooded with water pouring out of our Navien system. They did absolutely nothing to help clean the flood. Said it wasn't their problem. There is always a better option then Green a Energy. read more
