Our membership, including both residents and non-residents, shares a commitment to sustainable living and community building.
As a non-profit institution, we offer a diverse range of educational opportunities, from traditional craft classes and workshops to artist residencies and apprenticeships. Our 350-acre farm is also home to the East Hill Gallery, showcasing the exquisite work of Guild artists from May through October. Additionally, we host public programs, lectures, and retreats, providing a welcoming space for individuals to explore their creativity and connect with like-minded individuals. History
Established in 1957.
Since 1957, the Rochester Folk Art Guild has been a beacon of intentional living and creativity. Founded in Rochester, NY, by a group inspired by Louise March, a student of G. I. Gurdjieff, the Guild became a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts education organization. In 1967, it found its home at East Hill Farm in Middlesex, NY, transforming the historic sheep farm into a vibrant community. Here, traditional craft studios, sustainable agriculture, and meditation halls flourished. From pottery to woodworking, weaving, and beyond, the Guild's artisans have preserved and shared fine crafts through workshops, apprenticeships, and residencies, impacting countless lives. Supported by craft sales, educational programming, and grants, the Guild remains rooted in its mission. Today, it stands as part of an international network dedicated to Gurdjieff's teachings, with both resident and non-resident members committed to stewarding the land and embracing sustainable living practices.
Meet the Manager: Bridget C.
I'm the Program Director here at the Folk Art Guild and passionate about creativity and community. I first came to the Folk Art Guild after visiting on a retreat and fell in love with the farm- so much so that I never left! Outside of work, I am an artist and enjoy working in the orchard.
