While I don't have any issues with him, this review is about the surgical center staff and location. Pre-op interactions over the phone were always positive. I called a couple times with questions and was always able to speak with someone instead of waiting for a call back. The people I spoke with were always very pleasant to speak with and never sounded like it was a hassle to have questions (like sometimes happen elsewhere). The 45 wait in the lobby/waiting room to be called back was a little long for my taste, but that is the only less than stellar part of my visit. The person at check-in was very nice, very fast and helped with my insurance questions. It was a little chilly, but medical places often are. They had a variety of seating arrangements, including sections of chairs, love seats and even a couple booths. At first we thought that was a little strange, but then realized it's a genius idea for people who may have brought a laptop or other things for a table surface. Once I was called back, everything went very smoothly. The nurse working with me in the room was awesome, the anesthesiologist was very nice and informative, the doctor came in and spoke with me, as well as the nurse who would be with me in the OR. They were very efficient, quick but never rushed, and informed me of everything that was going on throughout my visit. Wonderfully nice staff. Since my procedure was today I have yet to have the post-op experience, but I have no reason to think I will have any complaints. I will update if needed, but I highly doubt it will be. The overall complex was very nice, looked to be reasonably new. Very clean and convenient. The patient rooms were comfortable, with variable lighting, LCD TV, a small wardrobe for my clothes and a couple of chairs for the person with the patient. I mentioned the booths already and the front area also has a couple of larger TVs for those waiting. This was my first experience with a stand alone surgical facility and so far I have been very happy with my experience. I highly recommend this facility. Great job! Tip: If you are going here, it is the front suite in the complex, facing Rochester Rd. Depending on the time of day (lighting) it can be hard to see the sign right away.

She would not let me stay with my mom because "there are two surgeons scheduled and it will be busy". Please note that they have booths in the waiting area...does anyone sit with strangers in a booth? I've been sitting outside, my dad is being prepped and there's one other patient here. There is no policy listed anywhere about only having one person with you; did we go back in time and it's 2020 again? The surgeons are great and the facility is clean but there have got to be nicer, friendly support staff they can hire.

My recent appointment with Elizabeth Evans at Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals Neurovascular…read morepractice was stellar. Ms. Evans provided information and answered my concerns with the utmost professionalism and the perfect amount of friendly concern. I went in frightened and left educated and reassured I am on the right path to continued improvement. I was seen almost immediately upon arrival and the staff was friendly. I highly recommend this provider.

COREWELL HEALTH | ROYAL OAK…read more 1. Postoperative Care & Timeline of Events On July 21, 2026, I underwent sinus surgery. Prior to the procedure, my surgeon assured me that although he would be traveling out of the country during my recovery, appropriate coverage was in place to manage any postoperative issues. He also promised to call me personally to check on my progress. This never happened. Neither the follow-up call nor the promised coverage materialized: Onset of Complications: Shortly after surgery, I developed severe pain, uncontrolled vomiting, and a fever. Lack of Outpatient Evaluation: My repeated calls to the surgeon's office detailing my deteriorating condition did not result in an evaluation by a coverage provider. Emergency Department Referral: Instead of an in-office evaluation, I was instructed to report to the Corewell Health Emergency Department on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. 2. Hospitalization & Diagnosis Upon arrival at the emergency department on July 29, I was directly admitted to the hospital, where I remained through August 1, 2026 (5 North, Room 5645). I was diagnosed with a Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterial infection--a healthcare-associated postoperative infection--and required three days of intravenous antibiotic treatment. I am currently seeking a legal evaluation to determine whether the lack of postoperative follow-up, the absence of covered care, and the delay in direct intervention met the appropriate standard of care, and whether these failures contributed to the severity of my infection and subsequent hospitalization. 3. Hospital Care Advocacy & Staff Recognition I want to explicitly state that my formal concerns regarding this stay are directed at facility resources and administrative oversight--not the clinical staff. The bedside team on 5 North provided exceptional, compassionate, and professional care under difficult circumstances. I have submitted formal award nominations to recognize the following individuals whose dedication made a challenging stay manageable: - Nursing Staff: Wade, RN; Olivia, RN; Kaitlyn, RN - Medical Team: Dr. Gilbert (Neurology) - Medical Assistants: Brooklynn, Syam, and Nicole There were no blankets or pillows available, and I had to sleep in my clothes on my first night. There were also not enough rolling carts available for the nurses, and the scanners were not functioning. As a result, staff had to use refurbished cell phones to scan patients' wristbands and chart! Last but certainly not least, there was no air conditioning, which made an already difficult stay even more uncomfortable. I have been to this facility multiple times for procedures, and unfortunately, I have noticed that the quality of the experience continues to decline with each visit. This is ultimately why I felt compelled to write and share my concerns. I hope these issues will be taken seriously and addressed, as patients and staff deserve a safe, comfortable, and properly equipped environment. While the care team was outstanding, the facility itself appears to be struggling with equipment shortages, malfunctioning technology, and physical infrastructure issues. My formal correspondence is intended to advocate for this clinical team so they receive the operational support and resources necessary to deliver the high standard of care to which they are clearly committed. Due to this experience and the serious healthcare-associated bacterial infection I contracted, I have lost confidence in Corewell Health Royal Oak. I will be seeking all future care elsewhere and will share my experience with others when asked.

Then I ended up in the hospital with severe pancreatitis right before my consult with him. When I went to cancel he so kindly offered to take out my gallbladder and also was the only one in my 3 years of searching for answers to diagnose my "hernia" pain as a large endometrioma. That alone was worth seeing him for! He did a fantastic job on my surgery, took the time to speak to me and my husband prior and answer questions. His office staff have been genuine, kind and helpful. I'm so thankful to him for helping me.

He had poor bedside manners. He belittled other doctors and he undermined my genuine concern. I asked him if he would be doing my surgery in entirety by himself or if there are residents/trainees involved since I do not wish the residents or fellows to do any surgery on me. I understand teaching hospital and I understand training but in this particular surgery I did not wish trainees to work on me. I am scared of robots and it's personal. He could have said sorry my trainees depend on me to teach them and all patients of mine have trainees experience. I would have said thank you but no thanks and left. But instead he started using cutting remarks and mocking my intelligence as well as my concern. He said " residents come and go. It's not that I would leave to have tea with one of your colleagues while residents are doing surgery ". All I wanted was him to tell me if it was possible to not have any trainee at the console of da Vinci robot during the length of the surgery because I as a patient am not comfortable otherwise. Was I asking for too much? And he could have said no and we would have parted ways and I would look for another surgeon. But he had to be sarcastic and demeaning.
