A friend recommended this place to me, and I was so happy she did. Alpine rock and block has a fantastic selction of rocks, pavers, and boulders and we got maybe 10ft from our car before we were approached by a salesman on a forklift asking if we needed help finding anything. We told him we were just browsing, and he said to holler if we found something or needed anything. Another 10ft in, another salesman in another forklift came to ask us if we needed help - I loved how aware and non-pushy they were! Very surprising as most places like this are lacking in service, and this place had it in spades. When remodeling our pool with Paradise Custom Pools we were told that Alpine Rock & Block would be a good place to visit ...oh my was that an understatement! Will Rivera greeted me and I was amazed at the selection of anything I needed for our transformation. Stone Coping, Tile, Stack Stone...they're not kidding- if they don't have it, it doesn't exist! Impressive selection and top notch service! I visited Alpine Rock and Block for some decorative boulders for our pond and outdoor fireplace material. The helpful staff greeted me, listened to my needs, and were informative and patient. It was a great experience from start to finish and even the delivery was amazing as I received an entire truck load of rock to my drive way. After visiting a few rock quarries I found that they have the best selection, price and customer service in east county and they also have a really cool showroom with all sorts of gifts and novelty signage perfect for my wife! Called R&B and requested 6yds of rock be delivered in the super sacks, they were 4 days out for delivery, so I said no problem, I can come to the yard and get 2 at a time on my flatbed right, you have it available in the yard? The women on the phone said yes. Next morning, I was there when the gates opened and went in to pay for the rock and was told no, they won't put them in their super sacks and load them on my trailer, will only load loose. For clarification I asked again, I was told you had these in the yard, but either way, you have the sacks, you will load them, put them on pallet and put them on the delivery trucks, but will not set them on my flatbed trailer? Was told no! we CAN put it loose on your flatbed (kind of shows the type of decisions making going on here) how would that stay on the trailer. Asked a third time, because this seemed absurd that they will do all the exact same steps, but won't load it on my flatbed trailer so my project doesn't get held up, NOPE and this was the decision of the Manager (which I happened to be talking too, I was told) Just got done spending over $4k here, but I will NEVER buy from here again, which is sad because the people in the yard and both my delivery drivers were beyond friendly and helpful. By the way, called RCP in Santee on my way there and they said yeah, no problem, if you have your bags we will load those for you so you don't have to pay $20 for new bags. Was in an out of there in 15 mins and everyone was very nice....great customer service at RCP and customer focused, unlike management at R&B. I'm nobody but I will never be back and will share my story with others. So, disappointing. This wasn't about money by the way, RCP was .20 a block cheaper than R&B, which I knew and still used R&B, I like using smaller local shops. I would have saved closed to $1000 using RCP over R&B on this project, you would think R&B would be more customer focused, knowing they are buying their block and delivering it to you on RCP pallets, it's no secret to know it would be cheaper to cut out the middle man. Think outside the box, you have everything needed to make it happen, but still don't and your cheaper competitor does, that's a problem. read more

Rock & Block is very fortunate to have an employee such as Tim Ostrom. It has been almost a year ago that we started to zeroscape our Landscaping . I spoke to Tim and our landscaper about the D/G with a stabilizer . which we put in our back yard. I thought I had learn all the information on D/G through the internet I need to have to make an intelligent decision on the use of the D/G . After the first rain of the season there was some deterioration with the D/G. . I called our landscaper about my concerns ,he made appointment to see the problem . Even after almost a year Tim Ostrom came to our home to see the problem with the D/G also. Tim had advised me about using a different ground cover I wish I had listened to him! I couldn't be more confident that this is the best place for our current project and all future mulch/stone/compost refills! Forget messing with HD & all the others! We didn't have to wait, every staff member on the property was friendly and eager to serve, and we were treated with such attention at the counter. We were encouraged to take whatever flagstone samples we needed to see how it would actually look on our property. Our associate even offered a couple other samples for a sealant we were curious about so we could see for ourselves how it would turn out. It was extremely helpful to grab a price sheet at the counter for all the bulk products -- easy to read, no mystery. The bulk stone in the yard is all laid out in order, so I had no issues matching up my samples with the price sheet. Amazing customer service! My husband and I have been rennovating our home on Mt. Helix for over year. We are now on to the outside...stone, veneer, decking...all of this is very new to me. I have been to every stone place in East County. They all seem to close at 5pm so being a working girl - only day for me is Saturday. After being ignored basically at a well now place that starts with an "R and ends in a P" for several Saturdays...and even ordered at least 4K with them in a 2 week timeframe...I decided to check out ALPINE. We got there at 5:15pm on a Saturday...and even though the place was closed, I saw a guy just on other side of fence and he let me in. He welcomed me HAPPILY...treated me like...a customer. I told him I will be quick and so sorry to keep him. You know what he said? He said, WE LOVE TO HELP CUSTOMERS HERE. I thought he must have been the owner...came to find out he is one of the sales team. PLEASANT place with amazing customer focus and a great HUGE selection. It's about 15 minutes further for myself and contractor but it's worth it to me for sure. read more

I have been coming to this place for a few years and have probably spent thousands of dollars. For the most part everything had always been great. Fair prices, friendly helpful staff and quality product. It was t until these past few times I have gone that things have gone down hill. The normally helpful staff seemed very annoyed I was even there. I get that everyone has bad days but it has now been multiple people on multiple trips, especially the female with piercings who works the front desk. She was just plain rude. I had an issue with a order of red wood chips that had trash mixed in with it. This included plastic and small pieces of glass! I brought this to the employees attention after u had unloaded it and spread it, and even brought photographic proof. They pretty much shrugged their shoulders and said sorry.... What else do you need. After complaining again and reminding them that I had always been a loyal customer they said the absolute best they can do is 15% off of my next load... And were very annoyed at that. That be my last purchase from this business. Mistakes happen, but how you handle them defines what kind of business you are.
