The plants and water features are outstanding, and it is such a delight to just wander around and soak it all in. Really, what can I say that hasn't been said by many other visitors? If you aren't captivated by the running water, the intricate rock gardens, or the lovely koi fish, then there is something wrong with you. This is such a gorgeous gem, and a must-see attraction in Portland, especially if you are already wandering around the Washington Park area. Some of the changes in the years since I visited are a whole new entranceway, with an amazing water foundtain. Plus, a redesigned plaza with new gift shop, cafe, and a library. Oh, and speaking of the the cafe, do try out some of the excellent teas and Japanese snacks on offer here. Plus, all the staff and docents working here were very friendly and helpful. As for a few things to be aware of: First, the parking situation is a pain. There are pay-to-park spots, but not enough for the crowds. So you should really plan to either walk over to the gardens from somewhere else in the park, or take the park shuttle service. Also, as some have also noted, the number of people visiting can sort of harsh the serenity a bit. So do your part, and be a courteous visitor, and try to keep things mellow, chill, and quiet enough for others to also enjoy. In a city so full of other gorgeous gardens, I have to say these stand out. It's a city favorite for a reason.

There is a large indoor play structure and it's big enough to accommodate dozens and dozens of kids. Before you can send your child to play in the structure, you do have to fill out a basic waiver online. It's a flat fee of $15 per kid for the entire day regardless of how long you stay. Kids do have to remove their shoes before they enter so I highly recommend that you bring at least one good pair of socks. For parents, there are plenty of tables out front of the structure, where you can observe your child while they play. The tables don't really allow for unobstructed visualization of your kid, but you can see them every so often as they approach the front of the structure. There is a full snack bar that includes your basic treats and some simple foods like pizza and appetizers. There's also wine by the glass and beers on tap. There is a small dedicated parking lot in the back of the facility, but it fills up very quickly on weekends. Otherwise, you're subject to to street parking which has hourly costs. The bathrooms are mostly clean and they accommodate children, as expected. The food is above average and the prices are fair. The place does feel a little bit chaotic at peak hours, but my child always has a lot of fun and I generally don't have to feel too worried about their safety while they play. They have a few dedicated rooms for birthday parties and events, which I have never used. They also have very large garage door panels on the walls that can be opened when the temperatures are warm to lift and allow for better ventilation from the exterior. I do worry a bit about the cleanliness of the entire place and I wish they had more hand sanitizer stations throughout the business. Otherwise, the service is as good as I would hope and it's generally an above average experience for everyone in my family.

Don't get me wrong, but masks are still encouraged.  But let's FORGET about that and 2020 all together.  I'm here to talk about what's goin' on in Slabtown! The Slabtown Outdoor Market has opened up!  And thus far, per their website, the market will be held on the Second Sunday of each month starting: ~ July 11th, August 8th, and Sept 12th. ~ Assuming the following months are TBD. Hours:  11am - 6pm As for walking around and checking out the vendors, I've seen everything from artwork, to beer, clothing, from healing to ice cream and soaps, and even fresh veggies and vegan creations.  I counted at least 30 different vendors and SAMPLES!  YES, some of them had samples.  Its good supporting locals and trying out their products.  Honestly, I wish there were more farmers. I mean, it is a market, but I guess it's not a "farmer's market".   I gotta add that I was most impressed with someone selling cast iron grills; I mean wow, who would've expect this tent. As well as the Nova Rose Knots lady and her macrame items, very creative.  We found new flavor drinks from the GT's Synergy Kombucha Co, and the girl helping us was awesome. I enjoyed Breakside Brewery and a couple of their refreshing brews.  Fifty Licks had some tasty ice cream, and the Cold Brew Coffee crew were fun to chat with.  Most of the vendors seemed pretty upbeat and ready to serve.  Its gotta be this lovely Portland weather as of recent.  Unfortunately I really hate to add this, but there was a lack of trash cans. I was gonna reduce a star, but I'm sure that'll be addressed. Or else the end result will be trash everywhere. Hope the organizers take note of this. The tags, my task, were just good fun. Lots of room to be creative and simple to complete without assistance. The passport covers were another story. The other 2 needed assistance a lot, especially during the stitching, which took quite a bit of time and was a tad hard on their hands. The employees were more than willing to provide the assistance they needed though. There were definitely a couple other crafts I would've enjoyed trying. Fabulous concept, pleasant employees, and a cool way to spend a few hours...especially for those of us very much out of our comfort zone.

Lots of photos of the family and context to the photos! This was great. Outside was clean and there were ton of labels for all the plants. Flowers and plants full bloom! We did the WildWood Trail to the Witches Castle! It's a nice hike. Wear appropriate shoes and clothes! 2.3-5 miles round trip. It's a big enough path for multiple people but some areas narrow. The climb down is good but man back up lol you will feel the burn. They have restrooms onsite indoor and then they have a bathroom in the mansion basement. Toilets flush loud don't be alarmed. At the bottom of the trail when you cross the street, there was a porta potty. Map as well. Parking is expensive: weekend Saturday it was roughly $24 for all day! There are benches and picnic tables towards the view! Staff are very nice! Gift shop as well with snacks, plants, jewelry, postcards, and all sorts of items.
