We're so lucky in Portland to have several really great independent movie houses. I was even more shocked I'd never been here after discovering how awesome this place is! The only downside I see is that the parking lot next to it doesn't belong to them according to the person I bought my ticket from. I have mobility issues so I park in ADA and did so. The lot has a ton of tow notices clearly stating customer parking only, but the building seems up for lease. And when I went back to my car, there was a very graffiti covered bent sign, which looked like it was saying parking for the theater. I'm paranoid because some of those tow companies are straight up scary. Just saying park at your own risk. The bathroom... clean, easy to navigate with soap, easy to use sink and you get to wipe your hands. Concessions - yes! And thank you for having such a great selection, actual ice, fountain soda... delicious popcorn that was fresh... and Bravo to the sweetheart responding to my epic butter request by demonstrating how heavy the bag was.... I love you so much! The prices are completely great too! I am always scared going in to a new space, especially when I am going to be sitting down in that seat for 2 hours. What a great surprise this was - when I picked the seat on the screen, the guy said he felt the ADA seat was really the best seat in the theater at Laurelhurst. After sitting down, I agree - the view was perfection and the seat was amazingly comfortable. read more

Great experience here. Came on a Friday night and the place was busy. I'd bought tickets in advance for a popular movie and the price was great - $10/ticket. They have food at the front and the prices were very reasonable - $5 for a slice of pepperoni pizza, which was good. Our theater had a medium-sized screen - felt like a long, relatively narrow seating area. We were towards the back and it was a good experience. If I came again, I'd want to sit closer to the middle. The seats are super comfy and there are tables in front of all the seats. I'd come here again. read more

My favorite theater in Portland! The employees are always say friendly and work so efficiently. The prices are great and they always have a great selections of movies. The popcorn is amazing and I love that they offer a CBD beverage. My only minor complaint is the pizza, which has been a bit too thin and stale lately. We went to Laurelhurst to watch "Sinners" (awesome flick) a couple weeks ago. It was our first time there and I liked the theater and most of the experience enough that I wanted to leave my honest review. THE PROS: * Movie ticket and concession prices are relatively cheap. Certainly cheaper than the big-box theaters. * They serve Coca-Cola products (win!!!) * In addition to the classic concession items (popcorn and candy), you can also get pizza by the slice! * Ordering tickets online was easy, as well as checking in. * The seating was comfortable and spacious (clearly it was renovated to remove every other row so that they can fit a long table to provide moviegoers a flat surface to eat their concessions). * The trailer build was short and sweet. THE CONS: * The lobby is a bit tight. I understand it's unavoidable but it just made waiting in line and ordering food and drinks at the concession a bit chaotic. For example, the side table to get your napkins, utensils, etc. is RIGHT THERE so you'll definitely run into other patrons who are still waiting in line. And this was to watch a movie that's been out for a couple weeks already. I can't imagine what this place is like during opening weekend of a new big movie. * I've never been completely sold on the "theater and pub" model. Coming from a Los Angeles, there are so many places like this so I get it. However, it's just distracting when someone accidentally drops a bottle or you hear plates banging on the table. At least it's a carry-your-own thing so you don't have servers interrupting you while the movie is playing. Now, you might be asking, "Why did this dude come to Laurelhurst to begin with?". Well, to that I say: I was invited by friends. I'm not a snob. I love supporting movies and movie-going so I was willing to give this place a try. * The letters for the rows need to be bigger and made more visible in the dark. We found our seats easily enough (because we arrived early) but some patrons walked in late and I was distracted hearing them ask "What row is this?" or "Is this our row?". I don't want to sound pretentious but I love movies and I take the movie-going experience very seriously. So when there are things that are distracting because of things I mentioned on my "cons" list, it really takes me out of the movie. All that said, I'm definitely going to give this place another try because I really liked the charm, but until then, I'll leave my review at 3 stars and will update it in the future if it's warranted. read more

Love this local theater. It has remain largely unchanged in the 30 yrs I've been in portland. There are only a few screen but they did update the seats to larger more comfortable seats. They also offer purchasing tickets on line and choosing your seats in advance. They offer some good movie food, popcorn, pizza, beer, seltzers and wine along with candy. They show first run movies, at good times and great prices. I say get there early if you want concessions because there is a long line. read more

Very nice neighborhood theater that showcases Hollywood blockbusters, the odd arthouse film, and everything in between. LT manages to keep ticket prices reasonable ($10 standard, $7 matinee and all day Tuesday), doesn't subject viewers to 20 minutes of stupid commercials, and only presents advance movie trailers before the feature. Theater rooms are a bit on the small side, but all seats provide a good view of the screen. Some seats have wooden plank tables for food and drink. Good sound system. Online ticket reservations are available for a $1 per ticket fee. Food and drink options are above average. Alcohol is available. Sometimes, the A/C in the summer is inadequate, and the theater is uncomfortably warm. Best to go in the evening from June to August. Overall, the theater is cozy and clean. Bathrooms are well maintained. Laurelhurst Theater is one of the better neighborhood movie theaters in the city. Recommended. read more

One of the best no-frills spots to see a movie in Portland. It is very old school Portland which I appreciate. They have a VERY good beer/drink list menu and I love that the popcorn is under $5. Some of the screens are relatively small and the sound is great but not amazing - but something about coming here for their ticket prices and the entire package, just makes me happy. read more

Just moved to the city a few months ago and have been meaning to come hear to see a film. Finally went and saw Hamnet here this past weekend. Staff were extremely friendly and kind. I've always been a sucker for the movie plus dinner concept. My husband, daughter and I headed over to Laurelhurst Theater for a night out and overall it was a great experience. First, the theater itself is old and beautiful with cool carvings on the wall and a nod to cinema past. All food must be ordered in advance in the lobby, there is also a separate window for drinks. Once we figured all of that out, we headed to our seats with our # with the understanding that our pizza and nachos would be delivered at some point. Seats were comfortable and as mentioned, the theater itself is beautiful. There is a small wooden counter in front of the seats for food. It is an understandably narrow counter which makes balancing a large pizza, plates etc a bit tricky, but we figured it out. The pizza was actually fantastic, I expected good enough and it was far better than that! 100% recommend! read more

The heavyset brunette man working the front desk was awful tonight. One of us forgot an ID and since there rule is minors are allowed before 7pm asked if that was ok. The front desk guy explained that only a parent/child combo was allowed and not friends for this rule. My sister made a joke asking if he would believe the friend without the ID was one of our kids. He then flipped out and screamed at us in front of everyone in line that we "were trying to lie to him". We ended up just going home and lost out on 40$ worth of tickets because it was so uncomfortable to be screamed at. read more

This style of theater is what I want all movie theaters to be... well this and Extreme experiences like Imax, minimax, or dbox. Either cool and chill or an experience not able to be had at home. One thing I have always missed about leaving portland was the bar theaters. Living room, state street, McMinnimins, laurelhurst, etc. Its amazing the experience of grabbing good popcorn, good pizza, a great beer, and experiencing a fun movie. Prices are always great. The seating can be unique and fun. But having a beer and great pizza while watching a film is what I miss the most. There are a few spots up here in Tacoma. I recently changed my membership from Cinemark to The Grand because I want to support this style of theater as much as possible. They have fun unique shows. Show all the great indie films. Its what I think the future of theaters really are and corporate chains just cannot do that. As a young angsty adult I wrote a dumb blog about how much I hated corporations in the theater business. I dont hate corporations, I do wish they could do cool things, but sometimes they just cannot. Its not profitable. Its not ideal to use up a screen for something like this. Running a huge theater for a small screening of Die hard doesnt always make sense, but smaller theaters can justify bringing in Alien at 10p on a Friday and filling out the theater. Its my dream. Overall I rambled and sorry about that. I loved my experience there. I will visit every time we come back to Portland. read more

Cute, little theater that reminds me of my childhood. It isn't fancy. You don't have reclining chairs. It has that old skool feel. And...I love the $9 price tag for each ticket. My friend got 2 glasses of wine and popcorn for $17. Unheard of. They've got tons of food and alcohol if you didn't grab a bite to eat before the movie. The sound system isn't the greatest but it's tolerable. Seats were comfy and I love the tables for you to put your food and beverages. Solid 5 stars! read more

One of Portland's wonderful old theaters! It originally opened in 1923 with one screen, but has expanded to a four screen theater. The inside has an old nostalgic feel; however, the seats in the auditoriums have been updated and are nice and roomy. I came here with a friend for a Sunday matinee movie. The $6 admission was great! Also, we were able to find (free) parking in the small lot located on the side of the theater. General admission is $9. Discounts ($6) are available for matinees and on Tuesdays. The concessions have quite a variety of food and beverage items available... from popcorn, soda and candy, to pizza, salads, beer and wine. All at reasonable prices and less expensive than the bigger theaters. They also offer gift certificates. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be returning. Tonight we gave Laurelhurst theater a chance I have to say that was a bad idea. Right up on arrival I overheard a cashier talking bad about a customer that had fallen asleep during the movie in the theater. When I asked for popcorn and drinks I was given my worst movie theater experience for snacks. The popcorn was purely just shake and crumbs. it tasted nice, but I could not really enjoy it since it was just purely crumbs. Granted I got the large. if you are prepared for a subpar experience and low quality popcorn come here. I think it would help a lot if you trained your cashiers to treat their customers and also great customer service by providing the top quality popcorn, not to shake at the bottom. Granted it was very cheap so you get what you pay for. read more

We live right up the street, but stopped going once it became a first run theater with higher prices. However, friends were in town and it was convenient. Previously, we found the screening rooms to be sort of mediocre, but now, they've really improved the experience. The rooms look much nicer and have super comfortable seats, they are also now sound proofed very well. The ticket and refreshment prices are much more reasonable than the chain theaters. I will say, though, the pizza is not great, they should get another vendor for that. We saw two movies in two days and had a blast. I'm eager to come back! P.S. The buttered popcorn was the best I've had in a long time. Like, memories of my childhood good! read more

This cozy neighborhood first-run theater is my favorite in Portland. The Hollywood just around the corner on Sandy is also fun and has great special shows but the Laurelhurst is more charming. Highly recommend the pizza - the Greek is particularly good and you can enjoy a pitcher of beer or soda during the show. They have tables in the lobby and at many of the seats as well. The picture is always high quality and the sound is typically at just the right volume with very clear dialog. The Laurelhurst Theater is medium dank. The eats are better than most theaters. But the upper management and ownership lacks. I saw a film and a few there. Many soundtracks caused a rattling vibration in the theater. I alerted the staff. They were "it does that." No. Owners can correct inexcusable sonic woes. Wonderful local movie theater. As long as you understand this is a historic theater, and not an IMAX-equipped cineplex, there's a lot to like here. Tickets are cheap, the food is made by a local cafe, and beer & wine is available at standard bar prices... no movie theater premium pricing here, folks! They also have a pretty decent selection of non-alcoholic bevs, including kombucha. And you gotta love the technicolor, old school neon signage out front. The theaters themselves are about what you'd expect for a $4 ticket, and that's just fine. Sound is good. The best thing is that there are benches in front of the theater chairs for you to put your food and drinks on. There's also some seating in the lobby that folks eat, drink, and hang out at before or after shows. I would give the elusive 5th star if only their pint glasses were made of glass! I just don't enjoy drinking beer out of plastic. My own personal nitpicking about perfectly reasonable, no doubt safety-related, plastic pints aside, you should totally come to a show at the Laurelhurst. They're usually playing a delightful mix of newish movies that just left the multiplexes, cult-classics, and current art-house fare. What a great place! read more
