I thought I'd be shooting for a walk-in, so I had researched everyone in the shop to make sure I'd be cool with whoever was available to tattoo me and not just one specific artist. I ended up sending a booking request just a few days ahead and scored an appointment with Ace. While I had some concept ideas and inspo, I hadn't really come in with something specific and that made me really nervous. Luckily, smack on the front page of his wanna do book, I found my design. I think we did more talking than tattooing at some points or we would've been done even faster than we actually were. Very grateful for fast tattooers with gentle hands lol. The shop is gorgeous, but beware if like me you go in the winter on the morning after a cold weekend - it gets chilly! They've got plenty of blankets and bolsters to make a nook though, if you forget your own. I can't say enough good things about my experience and I'm so excited to work with these folks to fill up more on my leg.

I've never felt intimidated walking into the shop, which is a feat cus I have had uncomfortable tattoo experiences in the past, but never here. Well it's actually a funny story,…read more Many years ago when I was just a small infant my mother decided she wanted to get my ears pierced. Every time I ask her who did she go to for the piercing, she just says "the doctors". Well whoever the "doctors" were completely did a lopsided job. I was always insecure when wearing earrings and never wore them because my right ear's whole was way too high then the proper position. Kids in school would always ask me why my earrings were lopsided. Because of this I haven't worn earrings in years. I tried correcting the imbalance of my ear piercings a few years ago by trying to get a double piercing. It was successful for a bit, but a few days in I had to take them out because my right ear was trying to catch an infection. On my 30 hour layover in Des Moines Iowa my coworker wanted to get his ear pierced, and this brought up unfinished business between me and my lopsided ear holes. I decided to go with my coworker and try one more time to correct my ears. We made no previous reservations, we came as walk-ins and we had to wait about 10-15 minutes for Abriana our piercer to finish up with a few clients. Once she was finished she came up to us, asked us what we needed and then helped us pick out some earrings. After that she took us to the room to get our piercing done. I went first. I explained my whole dilemma and I felt that my concerns were taken seriously. She took her time with measuring my ear and deciding where to put the second holes. On the left ear she pierced above the original hole, and on the right ear she pierced below the original hole (because that was the hole that was too high). When she pierced me she did it with a needle and not the piercing gun. She said the needle does way less damage on the skin tissue, and therefore allows for a better recovery process. She explained to me just before piercing me that I would need to inhale, and then when I exhale she will pierce me. I appreciated this because I knew what to expect, I also think the breathing method help to make it a little less painful. She was very friendly and super professional. I would definitely recommend her as well as this shop. I'm actually surprised at the reviews here on Yelp. Granted a lot of them are outdated. This place gets great reviews on Google, and I can vouch for those reviews. It's now going on a week and a half and my ears are going strong. No signs of infection to be seen. If you are looking for a professional place to get a piercing, Lucky Gal is the place to go!

The problem really lies in the fact that 3 years later, it's still not healed. And yes, I followed the piercer's instructions. 2 years in, I called them thinking maybe I'm allergic to the metal in the jewelry. I've heard that can cause piercings to not heal, and I purchased the jewelry from them. I didn't expect them to fix anything, I just wanted the details so that I could find different jewelry. They didn't even know the size or material of the jewelry that they have in store. Just make the drive to Des Moines. Both of the places in Ames suck. The only upside to going here is that everyone (now that one of their artists is gone) seems incredibly nice.
