Iowa Diamond

Unless you'd like poor customer service and frankly, bad products with diamonds falling out of your…read morering, I'd avoid Iowa Diamond like the plague. This review is a long time coming - I finally had the time to sit out and write our poor experience with them over the last decade. It started in 2011 when we lived in Des Moines and together picked out a few settings/diamonds we liked. We were engaged in June 2012 and less than a month after wearing the ring on my finger, the first diamond fell out. We should have known then that this would be a long road of fighting Iowa Diamond for them to do the right thing. They replaced the ring setting right away - using my original diamonds but having the manufacturer create a new version of the setting we purchased. But that product or customer service didn't last long. Soon, months later, another diamond fell out. We took it in and they replaced the diamond. However, over the last nine years, I have had diamonds fall out SIX different times - four of which took place in a four-month period. Let it be known that I don't shower with my ring, sleep with my ring, swim or work out with my ring. I wear it during the day (I work in an office) and that is it. Each time a diamond has fallen out, I have paid for them to get replaced out of my own pocket (approx. $90-$110 each time), but in 2020, I had enough and went to Gina (VP) to ask her to make it right. Sadly, Iowa Diamond did not do the right thing. The only option they gave us was to pay $800+ to have a new setting created by the manufacturer. After much deliberation, we took the option because we thought that was all we had to work with. I'm aware that the setting of my ring is pave, and that Iowa Diamond claims it "may be more prone to losing diamonds," but I have two main issues with that being used as an excuse. The first, is that when we met with our sales person, Pam Storey, she never once mentioned that would be something to be mindful of. In fact, the majority of the rings she showed us had that style. Secondly, my wedding band is also pave style (but from a different jeweler) - and I have NEVER had an issue with that ring, and I've had it for eight years. I cannot and will not do this every eight years. It's not reasonable for us - I have zero friends or family members who have EVER had to have their diamonds replaced let alone the entire setting itself. So beware before you purchase from Iowa Diamond. Because even if you do have a problem with them, they will not make it right and you'll be paying for your ring over and over and over again.

I took in a necklace that they had made for me years ago to request that they take my stones and put them in a ring instead. I found a rind I liked, left my stones with them, and received a call stating that I needed to bring in 1/2 of the purchase price in order to have the ring made. They had not told me that previously. I went to the store and gave them 1/2 as they had requested. Kyle was there, and I let him know that I had purchased many pieces of jewelry from them over the years and never had been asked for money down. Further, I told him that I found it offensive to have that happen this time. Kyle immediately raised his voice and said "Well, let's just cancel the sale then!"! He further stated that they want the deposit for security in case I did not pick up the ring. I said "Well, you have my stones". I tried to explain that I just was sharing my feelings about how this request and how it was different than any other time I made a purchase. I wasn't refusing to give them the deposit. They already had that in hand. He again reiterated, louder this time, that we should just cancel the sale then. A female then intervened and tried to smooth things over, because I was horrified at how I was being treated and as this continued I began to cry (which I don't easily do). She initially convinced me to continue with the sale, and I left the store. But I was so upset with the way I was treated that I went back in, told her that no one had ever treated me that way, let her know that I never wanted to deal with Kyle again, and asked for my stones and my deposit back. She gave me both and I left, incredulous that I had been so disrespected. Later that day Kyle called me and told me that he had checked their records, knew that I had purchased many things from them in the past and was never asked to pay a deposit, and offered me the ring at 1/3 off, I told him I would have to think about it. I called them back a few days later and told them that I would take the ring. I picked up the ring in early October along with an appraisal, and I did not deal with Kyle. I had the old appraisal from the necklace and compared them and noticed that part of the appraisal was missing, but was reluctant to return to the store because I did not believe I would be treated with respect if I complained about this. Also, I was unhappy with how the larger stone was set in the ring. So I waited a long time while deciding what I should do to remedy this situation and to leave this review. I believe that Kyle needs to take a comprehensive course on customer relations!!! So I took the ring and the appraisal to Gilger Designs down the street from Ames Silversmithing. They reset the larger stone for me and gave me a new appraisal that was complete. They treated me with respect, ,and I cannot praise their work and customer service enough, especially after my bad experience with Kyle. I will NEVER go back to Ames Silversmithing!! Lyn Wilson

Had great piercing experience, had a horrible tattoo experience. I paid $100 dollars for a tattoo that my artist did wrong. Got a helix piercing, worked with both piercer and had the best experience! Went in to schedule a tattoo appointment and they said they could get me in for a walk-in, said it would be 30mins. I finally get an artist 1 hour and 30 minutes later (which they were busy, I get it, but don't tell me a time then). I worked with Rick. He looked at my photo of the tattoo that I wanted, made a great stencil, put it on and started going. He was super rough with the tattoo. I know that they're supposed to hurt, but I've gotten tattoos before and no other artist has ever been as hurtful and rough with the paper towel (rubbing off excess ink and such). The picture that I showed him and the stencil that he made was of an outline of an object. It took way longer than it should have and I couldn't see it so I didn't know he had added shading until after it was done. I did not ask for shading at all. I wanted the simple outline, but he didn't ask if he could do or if I wanted shading. The shading he added gave my tattoo a bad vibe that I hated. It was supposed to be a neutral tattoo and now it's got a negative or eerie vibe. I went into ask to get it fixed and had a horrible time scheduling with Rick. I waited 30 minutes in the shop (because they won't schedule online or through the phone) for him to schedule with me. Then I had to reschedule and the store told me he would call me back. A week later, he hadn't called me. I finally got it rescheduled when the shop gave me his private cell number. Then I went in at the time we had agreed on and he asked me to come back in an hour because he was finishing someone else up. I just sat in my car for an hour. I don't believe my tattoo was all the way healed when he did the fix so it hurt and bled a lot more. I don't like the fix. Hopefully it'll heal and fade in a better way, but I'm already assuming I'm going to have to get a cover up. I paid $100 dollars for a tattoo that my artist did wrong. I wanted a simple outline and he gave me shading that I didn't ask for and didn't like. I'm so upset and although all the other artists I interacted with seemed nice, I will never be back because of Rick. read more

speaking from experience as a man getting tattooed for more than 20 years, if and eventually when you go to get your first piercing/tattoo it definitely should and need's to be lucky gal tattoo/Ankeny,iowa.I've had many artists do their magic on my skin as far as motorhead hog on my right hand done by Mitch "the magician" Davis and Mike "the nightmare" bean slinging the ink on my finger's (GREAT JOB).I also like to add another artist (female) to the fight & she's pretty good as well. Tiffany is a great artist with a flare of her own. Now when it comes to piercing and you want some hellish deals and pain, you have Miss Haley...she is excellent to the business and her working with clients is a true work of art in it's own world. you want the best you have Haley and if she's not available you have Mitch Davis as well. I'll start out by saying the shop itself looks old and rundown, the floors were all broken up and smelled like cigarettes. The one guy who did my tattoo did a not so good of job. I have plenty of tattoos and the one he did is missing a lot of color. Some people might say its because you picked it, well I've been getting tattooed for over 15 years now and not one of my other tattoos look like this and I know better than to pick them. It's like he hasn't done it for very long. Also, he smelled like he hadn't washed in weeks, don't know if it was him or his clothes but he smelled like a bum. Don't remember his name but he had like a handle bar mustache and one arm was tattooed but not the other. I went to the Clive location and found everyone to be professional, kind, personable and willing to work with my difficult schedule. The office was clean, and it was just an overall great vibe. I told them what I wanted, but I really wanted to work with a female specifically. I met Apes and Caito and they were both incredible. They made me feel comfortable with my suggestions for a tattoo for myself. Caito's schedule seemed to fit mostly with mine so I went with her. She did an amazing job. I love it! I recently visited Lucky Gal Tattoo and Piercing to get my ears pierced by Derek and Abriana at the same time. It was a unique experience as one artist did one ear and the other artist did the other side simultaneously. The process was quick and easy, and I appreciated their professionalism and precision.
