I have been attending the San Diego Rock church for many years and find it to be the best church for spiritual life transformations. Miles, the lead pastor of the church has a special spiritual gift of reaching all types of people. With his biblical teachings coupled with his personal testimonies, wisdom, and discernment his message is powerful, moving, and motivating. In addition, with many others of the church that share their spiritual journeys, along with special guests as well allow for significant spiritual growth and life-changing transformations to happen. I feel that my life feels more gratifying. satisfying, more peaceful, more loving, grounding, forgiving, and really my eyes consistently focused on God because of the difference the San Diego Rock church has made in my life. The San Diego Rock church is great for spiritual growth as well as connecting with like-minded people, but it's how you decide to live your life once you leave church on a daily basis. You always hear about how special and inclusive this location with a large congregation and schools too! Did you know they have a superior summer camp they run at Point Loma Nazarene University? I came across it on a walk and was so impressed with the way staff was handling the camp population and visitors. I spoke with some young men from all over San Diego and Las Vegas! They were having the "best time of their year" they said and love staying in the dorms and meeting so many other young people of faith. I saw cornhole games and ping pong tables by the library and other games scattered around campus. There were also many chaperones and information tables set up for check ins and safety. This is a Christian church so God ( Father, son, Holy Spirit) first . It values families, marriages, and young adults, and teens. Pastor Miles and Pastor Travis speak biblical truth, as do all the Pastor's of The Rock. God is a constant. God doesn't change just because society has. The worship is Holy Spirit filled! The times I walk in feeling down, teared up and message speaks to me and I'm encouraged. Walk in during service and you even feel a rush of wind hit you as you enter the sanctuary( Holy Spirit) the breeze way, is a welcome as you join the service. People will pray with you after service if you need prayer. The Rock may be a large church, but This church has many small groups you can be part of bible studies or activity based groups and find community. There are many volunteer opportunities which are fun and many events to be part of. The Rock has regular food/provisions for the people of San Diego and has been a large church since I've known and been part of to care for the people of San Diego county . Has groups for married people, groups for young adults, parents, singles, etc. Teen camps, and young adult events are lively and well attended. The church has many other church locations/extensions locally in San Diego and Hawaii. I love that there is the "third option" We put our trust in Jesus, and not focus and get pulled into the things of the world and how those things may be trying to make us divisive of each other. Your Life is Good Because of Prayers (updated 4/2025) I get that the demographic for The Rock is mid 20's-late 30's of struggling folks. However, everyone in this age range has not fallen to drugs, alcohol or sexual decline. And there's plenty of us who are living a faith-filled, drama free life that's attending and tithing to the church faithfully. Miles. Can you speak to us? My daughter, I tell her, her testimony is blessed-edness. I prayed for her in the womb to be free and I pray upon her everyday. This is why her life is good, benevolent and of goodwill. She receives unexpected favor because of Mommy's prayer. And you know what---we need more testimonies like these. So all can know that God accepts you even if you start with a blessed life. You can learn about life without it being a struggle Unless you're hard-headed. But she's a teen and likes the community so we'll stay. I admire that they preach the word of God, but I wish they offered a traditional service, with timeless hymns and psalm singing. Modern worship music is breathy, repetitive, and unserious. It feels emasculating for a grown man to attend such services. Came here for a concert, so I'll review as a concert venue. Parking was easy with lots of available lots. Staff was very friendly. Seats were comfy. My negative is that they have these tv's and big screens they could have used for the concert, but didn't. I'm actually writing a review because I read someone's review that says that they're not a churchgoer so they're giving it a one star because they think that they're focused on money and celebrities... Tithing is biblical. Tithe where you feel led. However, I've never had an experience where I've felt they are focused on money. I attended the church for over 10 years. Pastor Miles has a very specific gift and he has a great sense of humor. But he is the pastor who taught me to get in the word every single day, and to combat the lies of the enemy with the word of God. He is the only pastor that I've ever listened to who continually speaks about fasting and praying... this helped me build a solid foundation of knowing the Lord. I am not sure how many pastors speak about being in the word daily, setting a SPECIFIC time with the Lord... yet we need to. all people are welcome. Knowing how much miles loves Sd, the Lord and he's a pastor who lives by what he preaches, you will learn the foundation. It is up to us to seek the Lord outside of a church no matter where you attend.. Miles gift is getting people to know how awesome Jesus is qnd helping them understand how to build a strong foundation to grow with the Lord -- thats my personal opinion. The more I walk with the Lord the more I recognize anyone who is anointed to preach, often times, has a calling on a few specific messages or points. I have attended one service at this church and let me tell you the church is painfully fake. They lean heavily into money and celebrity connections, the service was a tribute to special guest Jordan Sparks (American Idol winner). Although I am not much of a church goer even I could tell something was off. Their lack of respect for the surrounding area and its residents told me more about the church than the single service did. They are so inconsiderate when it comes to neighborhood courtesy. Blocking parking all over the neighborhood, taking up nearly all of the space they share with the neighboring HTH block of schools, as well as using the military housing community resources as an extension of the schools resources. Blocking military service members and their families from accessing them. Now I find out they installed cellphone antennas directly facing the HTe explorer playground without informing families and or the school they "share" a parking lot with. They claim to have done testing on the towers and even that was a lie according to the testing performed by HTe and statements from former church members. Today was my 1st time at the Rock Church got invited by my 7 year old son's Friend Family . Upon arrival the Kids club area was pretty much Filled up so kids were present at the service . Todays topic was about situationships didn't agree with the fact that children are present and you can just throw out the word sex in the air like it's nothing my kid was repeating the word during the service pretty much not had me happy . The pastor seemed more like a stand up comedian rather than what he really is . And I don't mind donating money but they really pushed that in the begging like practically begging for us to come out of our pockets when service hadn't even started . Very kind people. Interesting experience. I went to the first three services in 2023. The first one was absolutely amazing-very empowering sermon about being a great neighbor and setting goals. The second and third services of Jan 23 were given by McPherson. He continually mentioned his instagram handle, and "follow me." He was encouraging instagram following for the sake of praying with him (good intentions), but it just seemed to "woke" for me? The big lights and concert-like setting was a bit much for me. CONFESSION...I'm an Aetheist and haven't been to a Sunday church service since the early 80s...but I just had to come for The Rock's "JESUS LOVES PORNSTARS" service which had a celebrity guest whom I've idolized since I was six: Ron Jeremy, all 10 inches of him! My wingman Tim was running late. Too scared to go in alone, I waited and waited, but luckily lots of Rock Churchers are extremely late too...hundreds of people kept pouring in past Noon. 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes(at which point I walked in alone)...do y'all have any respect? People were still trickling in at 12:45...don't keep God waiting! So rude! Just go to the next service already! :P I followed the herd into the "Sanctuary"...and WOW! This is Church 2.0: loud Christian rock concert going on, rather than the typical gospel choir, big screens, 4 commercial grade cameras, excellent lighting, state-of-the-art sound system, online and smartphone access...tech-wise The Rock is no joke! If the average church is the Black Pearl, then The Rock is the Starship Enterprise NCC-1701! Its no wonder why The Rock has such a huge following...do you want to be on the old wooden ship armed with ancient cannonballs, or the ship armed with photon torpedoes? Maybe this isn't the best analogy... "JEE...SUSS!" (the crowd shouted this periodically) About 95% of the people were standing with their right hand held up, entranced, singing and waving along with the music...being new to this, I found it kinda creepy. But the lead singer looked kinda like Zach Galifianakis so I found that entertaining. The words are displayed on the giant screens so you can sing along, Karaoke style. The first 20-25min of service is just this rock music... maybe the tardy Rock Churchers just hate this Christian rock band and regularly try to skip it? "JEE...SUSS!" Afterwards a pastor came out and made a few annoucements. This pastor, and Pastor Miles, were both dressed in jeans and casual dress shirts...no penguin outifts at this church! He requested volunteers for the "Traffic Ministry". All Point Loma natives know that Sunday traffic at NTC is a huge Cluster-FUC, times 10. PASTOR MILES: "Please open your books to Luke 19..." Opps! I felt like I was back in 7th grade and forgot to bring my textbook.. :/ Here's some random quotes I remember, not the exact same words...I should've taken notes... RON JEREMEY: "See, I'm a Jewish boy. But when I and die and if I find out its Jesus waiting for me in Heaven, I'm going to ask him to give me back at least 5 minutes of my life back on Earth just so I can go back and punch my Rabbi in the face." After attending Miles McPherson's church services at Horizon Christian Fellowship, San Diego State University (when I was a student there) and his satellite campus we moved to this building and The Rock officially became a megachurch. After tithing each week, going to Bible studies, bringing people to church, doing missions work (e.g. volunteering at multiple Miles Ahead crusades) and basically loving others as best as possible and getting married by John Hilton, I became houseless between 2012-2021. Nobody at the church called me or even sent me an email. In fact, before I hit the street a drummer for one of their bands stole my guitar and sold it to a pawn shop. She happened to be related to Darren Carrington as well and she introduced me to him afterwards before the police officer recovered it. I would not attend this church for any reason except to preach on the pastors' sins. Are they still playing worship songs before the offering? Are you tithing or "tipping" God? I have been attending the rock church on and off for awhile now. From January to June of this year I was attending every week and tithing as suggested in the LIFE class I took. I really thought this would be a church that would help me grow closer to God. I was beginning the process of getting involved in ministry and volunteering when I started to notice some questionable comments and references during some of the sermons. References to Tupac and Biggie songs. Now I'm 30 years old I'm not uptight by any means I listen to secular music and Christian music. But to refer to songs that disrespect women, glamorize immorality, and murder is a little much for me. There was another sermon where pastor miles was talking about being at the Top Gun premier and listening to Tom Cruise talk for "one minute and 30 seconds" almost like he was fan girling... Tom Cruise who is a Scientologist... It seems like there's a lot of Hollywood idolization among other things. Even after all that I decided to go back today to give it another chance. I was really excited bc one thing I enjoy about the Rock is the worship. I came in and look up to the stage and one of the singers in the worship team is wearing an AC/DC t-shirt... my heart sank. And I was trying so hard the entire time to not be judgmental or let it affect my time with God. But I honestly couldn't believe it. Not just that she felt comfortable wearing it but that the leadership would allow someone to promote that. AC/DC who literally sings about THE HIGHWAY TO HELL... I mean if you listen to that outside of church cool that's your prerogative no judgement but to wear that as a worship leader. It's the most contradictive thing I've ever seen and incredibly inappropriate. Unbelievable. I don't leave comments or reviews but this type of blasphemy really struck me to my core. And even in light of all of this I still chose to tithe, because I do believe in the outreach this church does for the community. But I will not be returning. It's a place for someone for a new Christian, but not for someone who wants to be a true Christian and to keep growing with God. The congregation members are nothing but Lukewarm Christians. The young adult group I attended is nothing but a social club and is just a clique, if you find friends in any group be lucky as they will be the ones you will grow in God with. Satan has a presence in The Rock Church, one clue is where there are NO blood worship songs. One is better off having a little Christian group where one can pray and help one another out. I love this church. It's a large church filled with wonderful people and many volunteers. They do a great job managing their volunteer programs. However, some people put on a great facade, and somehow this one hid their double life. You cannot hold a church responsible for the actions of an attendee or volunteer. Name any nonprofit corporation or political group; they cannot control the private lives of their volunteers and employees. They took the appropriate action by breaking ties with this person when the news broke. Although I no longer attend this church, I will say you cannot judge the many thousands who attend this church nor The Rock's affiliated churches because of this one bad apple. I am thankful they took quick decisive action as soon as they heard of the problem. I am also thankful for all the many charitable events they frequently do among and for the citizens of San Diego. You are right, there is no excuse for child abuse or elder abuse. Remember, the church did not do this evil deed; they did not support it; they excommunicated this person as soon as they found out. We are trying to find a church home in the San diego community, so my son and I visited the rock. I was a little flustered trying to find where to park, but once we were parked and headed into service I was optimistic. The door greeter was very kind and said "Good morning", but he was the only one. I asked a man standing in the lobby with a name badge where the kids area was and he scoffed and pointed, almost as if I was a bother. I then stood in line to try to sign my son up for Sunday school. Everyone was rushing around, and the lady working the computers signing everyone up was very short. She inputted the information, and then printed the stickers and went to call the next person without saying a single word to me. I asked her where my little was supposed to go and she said "next to the coffee shop. There's signs" and turned away from me. I didn't even know there was a coffee shop! I go find where to go and drop my son off and go to service. Worship was good. I was a little taken aback by the amount of time they spent talking about tithes and offerings. I do know they are important to keep the church going, but they spent almost as much time talking about it as the pastor did preaching... The pastor was very hard to follow. He told us to open our bibles to a particular verse, and then never even read it. He read other verses from all over the bible, and told many stories, but not much of it seemed to make much sense or relate to the "topic" he had said we were discussing. After service was over I went to pick up my son and he was very unhappy. He said there were children bullying and teasing him and asked "mommy, can we never come back here again? They're not nice like our other church." (In South Carolina). We then left and not one single person said a single word to us on the way out. To me it felt more like a business than a church. Maybe it is the southerner in me, but I am used to polite conversation, or at least a friendly hello, when you go into a church, especially for the first time. Everyone just seemed so standoff-ish. This is a short update review on the temporary outdoor 10am Sunday services which have been held weekly during the COVID restricted guidelines which do not allow mass indoor gatherings. The Rock Church Point Loma Campus has been providing services outdoors since October (I believe) weather permitting of course since it is outdoors. The park which our church provides its outdoor service at is located not far from its permanent building, and can be attended at 2750 Roosevelt Rd San Diego, CA 92106, also in the Liberty Station area. You will see signs, volunteers, and the stage where the Worship band performs and the Pastor gives his message. No seating is provided so you'll have to bring a folding chair, blanket, or you can stand for the approximate 1:15 service which wraps up around 11:10-11:15am. Street parking as well as private parking lots are readily accessible. The sound is more than adequate to hear the Worship music and/or Pastor's message. I heard there were restrooms nearby which attendees could walk a short distance to, but have never needed to use them so I can't speak to their accessibility or cleanliness. From the three times we've attended, everyone is pretty good about keeping their distance from others who they didn't come to church with. Most of the attendees wear their face covering, and the those who do not sit/stand a safe distance away from others. There are hand sanitizer dispensers at the main entrances for those who wish to use them. The only real complaint are the airline jets which pass over the service ever 5 minutes or so, causing temporary interruption to the Worship music or the Pastor's message since Liberty Station is in the middle of the airport's flight path. The services are facilitated by the Point Loma Campus Pastor, Travis Gibson, and Asst. Campus Pastor Mike McGuire. Pastor Miles has visited one of the past three services we attended, but has yet to deliver the message at that outdoor venue at any of the services we've attended. Our church also has its Sunday service available to be viewed online at 8am, 10am, 12pm, and 6pm. We have been trying to contact Haydee for our sons dedication but have yet to get a response since August 13, 2019. I'm writing this because we can't get a response. We've been members of the rock since SDSU and Miles was the high school pastor at for my fiancée at Horizon. With all the people here, it's overwhelming. It feels more like a stadium than a church. With services at 8 AM, 10 AM, 12 PM, 5 PM & 7 PM, that's a lot of preaching. And parking is a nightmare. Just reaching the parking lot before or after service and you will feel all the goodness drained from those trying to flee the premise. Where is the good Lord then? Why does everyone look like zombies fighting to break out? No smiles, no "excuse me". Don't mind those in front of you. Don't try to follow the flow of traffic, and forget courtesy. I do not enjoy the enormity and it feels so impersonal. No stirring in my spirit, just stress. Miles is a great storyteller. The whole experience is more Hollywood than Holy. read more

THE PASTOR IS NEVER THERE! I keep giving this church a chance and I don't know why. This was the first church I decided to attend when I moved out to SD over two years ago and I'm always leaving disappointed. Out of all the times I've gone, the pastor has been there (physically) once!! He is either at another campus or shown in video segments. The music is wonderful and the staff is super welcoming but not being about to connect with the message is the worst. I can't say I'll ever go here again after this past Sunday. If you are looking for a place to connect with and not a place where it's just video segments doing the work, this is not the place for you. This church has so much potential but it seems like it's more about publicity and money. read more

I had been going to the rock since December of 2015 and I feel that Miles strays far more away from the bible and the word of God each service. I got saved at this location but sadly, over the years this church has grown bigger, but changed drastically. It now seems to be more about glitz and glam, and entertainment rather than preaching the gospel. I especially did not like that there was one entire service about tithing. I brought my friend with me that day and they got a really bad impression of the church. It was an awful service I must admit. Pastor miles has strayed more and more away from reading scripture, cancels services for football-and doesn't really live out the word of God. Sometimes he will make demeaning jokes and people will laugh, when it's not really an appropriate thing to be saying in church. I love his sense of humor but he has crossed the line more than a few times. I also feel as though the messages get repeated and I am not growing spiritually anymore. I notice he's always canceling service to go travel to luxury places and go on vacation with his wife and it makes me wonder if his heart is in this because it is his calling, or because he sees the dollar signs. He's becoming more about himself and less about the word of God. He's so concerned with getting people to join the church that every single service he mentions about texting your friends and grabbing out your phone right in the beginning of the service. I wish the people who worked at this church, volunteered, as well as even the people who come here would see that and make choices for themselves instead of just acting like sheep and continuing to go here despite the fact that the church is changing tremendously as it is growing. read more

I grew up in a Catholic home. As a child I loved the mosaic stained glasses, the high domed, lavishly decorated cathedrals and the beautifully orchestrated choir of the Catholic Church. Rock church is different: at first glance it looks like a movie theatre or in better terms a concert arena: For those traditionalists you will be in shock.However, if you get past that the real message of the church comes through- Love God, and love others, not by words alone but through works of charity. Come as you are-dress code not enforced- is also important for me. As I grew older, maybe a little more wiser, I realized that clothes do not determine who you are: Jesus did not wear silk robes but mingled with the poorest. I like that! Another thing of note is the offering/tithing process. You can give discretely. I hate the trays being passed by the ushers in most churches. It's not wrong but for those who can't give it's an embarrassing moment. Overall, I have learned and grown more in these few years in Rock Church than all of my years at other churches combined. Im happy to be a Part of a community, who is working to bring and show God's love for all through active charity. Highly recommend. read more
