Jared Spear owns the towing company and mechanic shop which towed and repaired our six-wheel, two-axle, Chevrolet box van. His assistant, Lisa, helped load our van on the tow truck, and checked us into to the Post Rock Motel, also owned by Jared Spear. This is a disturbing conflict of interest. We wondered why Mr. Spear would ever bother to repair our truck while we were paying him rent at his/the only motel in town. However, he repaired our truck in a reasonable amount of time, and we were able to finish our journey to California and back to Virginia. Meanwhile, without us saying a word, Mr. Spear lent us a vehicle free of charge to get around town. Also, when I asked Lisa for a desk or table to put our laptops on, she had one set up for us by the time we returned for lunch. She gave us her personal cell phone number in case we ever had any other emergency or needed anything else. We have never received better, more attentive service anywhere else. The bathroom was particularly adorable, with a tiny window at the back, with small Venetian blinds and a view of the road behind the hotel, and a cafe across it. The floor tiles, mostly yellow, were laid in a unique, cheery pattern which seemed to make our confinement significantly more pleasant. Our maids, a Cuban lady and her daughter, were also very attentive and pleasant. The mother told us she felt as if family members were moving away the day we loaded our box and departed. Lisa gave my wife one of the motel's T-shirts for her birthday, and charged us a reduced, weekly rate. Although I have stayed in many hotels and State rooms of higher caliber than the Post Rock Motel, all around the world, the service at this motel is unprecedented, and, although I may never to return to Lincoln, Kansas, it will always have a dear, special place in our hearts.

Drom Sott (which means "sweet dreams" in Swedish) feels like you're staying in someone's cozy home. The rooms are impeccable and everything is arranged just so. The bed is super comfortable. The lobby has large couches and chairs tucked into nooks that you can relax in. My room was on the smaller side, but it was perfect for a single person (which I visited as) or two people who don't mind sharing a small room. A generous Scandinavian buffet breakfast is included with your stay. Options at breakfast included crepes with lingonberry jam, hardboiled eggs, herring, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola and lots more. My favorite part of Drom Sott: Adult guests are welcome to visit the wine bar downstairs during their stay for a glass of complementary wine. Or two! There are also some little nibbly things (pretzels and Chex mix-ish snacks) to eat as you drink your wine. I drank my wine and then left the hotel to explore the cute Swedish neighborhood. This…read moreInn is definitely in the perfect location as far as proximity to the Museum goes - it's just down the street. Perfect! The Inn prefers that you check in during a certain time period so they can ensure they're there to greet you. I had a meeting that resulted in a late arrival on my part, so I called ahead to let them know when I would be arriving and they accommodated easily and kindly. When you arrive, you park at the back of the residence, but you enter at the front of the residence. Those with mobility issues should take note and plan ahead for that. Along that same line, this property does not appear to be wheelchair accessible. All of the rooms I saw were upstairs and the entrance required several stairs to access the porch. However, I may have just not seen other options - calling ahead to ask may be best to make sure. I was greeted by Adrian, who checked me in and showed me around. She was very attentive about what I could/would eat for breakfast the next morning, which implies a lot of experience on her part and being conscientious about not wasting food. I definitely appreciated that. I stayed in the Hurd Room, which was perfect for my needs. I was there in October and the room had a small space heater provided for use, which I was very very grateful for. I know that I'm more sensitive than most to cooler temperatures, so while most people would probably have been fine, I appreciated being able to make the room fit my preferences on my own. There is a large array of movies that you can borrow to watch, most of which are older and asking classic lines which is nice to take a step back and enjoy. There were also cookies and tea available through the evening. I've seen other reviews and noted myself that some bathroom areas can be quite small. However, I saw that as a result of converting Victorian spaces into modern lodging areas. Areas were simply smaller in that era than we're used to now and keeping the integrity of the space has the natural result of cozier accommodations. I personally didn't mind any of it, but I can see how others might. The bed was comfortable, but be aware that this is a typical Kansas town that was built around a railroad station. So trains still run through there very frequently and at all hours of the night. If that will disturb your sleep, plan accordingly. I honestly don't think you can stay anywhere near the museum without that aspect. Breakfast the next morning started with a yogurt, fruit, and granola parfait. Adrian makes the granola herself on site. The entree for that morning was French toast with a fruit reduction and bacon. It was very nice. Overall, it was a very nice stay in a historic home with prices very comparable to any local hotel.

The bathroom isn't the cleanest I've ever seen in my life, but it's good enough. The drain is slow, but the water pressure is good and the water is hot. The bed is basic. A little stiff more me, but fine enough. A 30-something inch flat screen, microwave, and fridge. Small coffee maker. 68 dollars a night! The owner was nice as could be. My interaction with him was super pleasant. I'm pretty sure this is the only place to stay in Abilene. I'm passing through to check out the Eisenhower museum.
