Things to keep in mind when considering this location: This RV park is in the middle of nowhere. There is a little mom and pop's grocery store, nothing else. Make sure you have plenty of gas. There is a gas station in Moro, another one in Shankio. It is mostly permanent residents. It appeared as if space 14 was the only space not occupied by permanent residents. A concern I had was the curve just before the RV park. If a car or semi lost control coming around that curve our trailer could be potentially be hit. My a-hole spouse said, it wasn't a concern for him. Lots of highway noises BUT it got quiet a little after midnight. Spaces are grass Parking lot gets muddy. There was a HEAVY rain the night we stayed. Restroom older but clean. Restrooms keep locked but facing on to the highway 97. Dog friendly. No dog area, we walk our dogs back corner of the lot. Would I recommend it? Sure if you need a one night stay.

Hood area. We weren't sure how to get there, so we stopped by the Zigzag Ranger Station (503) 622-3191 for directions and information to get there. To get there, take Hwy 26 to Forest Road 2618 (about a mile past the town of Wemme). Follow 2816 for about 4 miles to the campground. It's a first come, first serve campground. Sites are $20 a night for a car. It's $10 with a Golden Age (senior) Pass. Sites 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 are on the river side. We were lucky enough to snag site 8, which was the last river spot available. Sites allow one car, and if you have 2, then you'll have to pay an additional $8 to park the car. There are only pit toilets, no running water, no RV hookups, but there is a dumpster available. The surrounding is absolutely GORGEOUS!! It's so picturesque, beautifully green and quiet. With trees all around and the roaring river as the background, you really get the feeling of being remote. I highly, highly recommend camping at Green Canyon and be sure to try and get one of the sites near the river. If you have time, you might want to relax by the river or go on a hike.The trail is right by the river.

This campground (specifically site #13) was very nice. Ok, first off, it is a campground. It is not a hike in and pitch your tent kind of deal. It is a drive up and pitch your tent not too far from you car kind of deal. We stayed at site #13 and our friends stayed at #14. #14 was big which was good as they had 5 people in their party. #13 is pretty small, but there is a secret to that site. When we first drove up to it and saw the picnic table and fire pit and the small space for the tent we thought meh. Been here done this, but here is the secret. The secret is that there is a path just beyond the fire pit that will take you about 15 seconds to wind down. That will take you to a very quiet and secluded open area just above Still Creek where you can pitch your tent. Still Creek will be flowing through your sleep all night long. It did for us for 2 glorious nights. If you can get site #13 go for it. You will not be disappointed.

There is one bedroom downstairs and 4 bedrooms upstairs (Note: one room only has twin bunk beds). The proximity of the cabin to local businesses and a very short drive to the mountain made it perfect for everyone. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking tools and the fireplace comes with a starter supply of wood. The hot tub worked perfectly. The living room has two seating areas, which allowed everyone to have a seat near the fire. Everyone had an amazing time and we would love to come back.

I recently stayed one night at Alpine Campground on my way back from California…read more Alpine Campground is a Forest Service Campground, which means that the rules are pretty lax as compared to a state park or national park. There is a camp host, but they were away on vacation while I was there. This campground has 16 sites, which are currently all first come first serve. The way this typically works is that you occupy an open site that hasn't been reserved by anyone else, and then fill out the self registration envelope by the sign board within 30 minutes. When I arrived on Sunday evening, I noticed that most of the sites had tags on the sign posts, and other people who were looking for sites were passing them up. But I also noticed that the camp host was off duty, and upon inspecting the tags closer, I found that most of them had expired. So, I was easily able to snag my first choice site, which I think was site 15. It was close to the camp host site, and plenty big enough to set up my tent far away from the campfire ring. There is a vault toilet in the campground, but I didn't use it, because Timberline Lodge is literally within walking distance of the campground. So, I just brushed my teeth and used the restroom over there before bed and before leaving the next morning. The fee was $25/night, which you can get half off with a qualifying pass. This fee only includes one vehicle, because the campsites aren't really even big enough for two. Extra vehicles are $10, and that fee does not qualify for a discount. My campsite was really pretty. There were all kinds of flowers in bloom around the campground, in mid-August. Driving to and from the campground, I saw several random waterfalls cascading down the sides of the highway. There are so many opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and mountaineering in this area. The Zig Zag Ranger district website has a list of all of the trails and recreation areas managed by them, along with fees and season dates. Since I came on a Monday night, it was pretty peaceful. As far as I could tell, only one or two other campsites were occupied on my side of the campground. I was close enough to the road to hear some cars coming and going throughout the night, but it wasn't too bad. Not anywhere near as bad as Camp 4 Yosemite, for example. Overall this campground was pretty and peaceful, and I would definitely camp here again.

Five-star lodging for three-star prices. Highly recommend!…read more Comfortable, quiet, clean, upscale concepts without being stuffy or pretentious. BIG YES! for all the amenities that give you a high-end experience in the high Oregon desert. Great free breakfast bar includes cereal, bread, bagels, English muffins, OJ and milk. A 'help yourself' and "please don't be shy to use it" attitude in both the upstairs and downstairs kitchen. There's a computer setup in the downstairs. There's WiFi. There's a laundry room. There's a deck with a huge bbq setup...there's a garden seating area set apart from the house with a green patch of lawn. Rooms have balconies and outside seating. Ample private parking. Stayed only one night. I had Room #1 "Wapinitia" with access to the upstairs kitchen. Room (#3 is called "Boxcar"...all the names coincide with the names of sections of rapids on the river.) The upstairs had two adjoining rooms that can be locked. The upstairs main room has two double beds and one small cot-like twin bed. Great for families who want some togetherness time, also great for parents who want their privacy but still have access to the main room and the big well-appointed kitchen. (Had plenty of silverware, cups, plates, large coffeemaker, all the small utensils like can opener, bottle opener, etc) There was even milk and butter and cream cheese in the frig for us to use. PLUSES: Great attention to detail, which I noticed and much appreciated even though I didn't need it or use it. But just that it was available was awesome, such as, and in no particular order, there's NUTMEG and CINNAMON SPICES in the kitchen cupboard, MAKEUP REMOVER packets in the bathrooms, real FRESHLY-GROUND QUALITY COFFEE in easy-to-open jars along with the usual instant stuff and a variety of STASH teas; there's showers with BUILT-IN SHOWER SEAT and LOW SHOWER ENTRY for people in wheelchairs or the elderly, so thoughtful. The two BOOKS in my room were good summer reads, not the usual mental pablum, however, I had read both already and well, no time...because the place is within WALKING DISTANCE to the whitewater rafting OUTFITTER and HENRY'S CAFE and THE OASIS CAFE and a local MARKET. CONS: NONE. SHOUTOUT -- I did have to call the proprietor Mike to open the door for me because I locked myself out. There's a lock box at the entry, and all he had to do was tell me the code, and voila, I was back inside my room. Awesome. Saved him a trip, right? WRONG. Also brain-addled, I couldn't figure out the teevee...so Mike did come over in less than 10 minutes, and he helped me figure out the TV settings. OVERALL: A stellar experience...only wish I could've stayed longer. Friendly helpful proprietors in Mike and Dani. This is the place to stay if you want to be happy.

It was nearly impossible to practice in under 50 feet of slope. You just can't get anything going enough to practice. The only other option is to take the chair lift up and hope you don't need to test your health insurance out 3) after prepaying for a few days of skiing and realizing day one this wasn't the place for us they refused refunds for the following days we weren't going to use. That's just kinda crappy. Not saying they're rip offs. But as a customer I feel Ripped off. The rental guy was nice. The lady at window taking down the rental info was kind of cold and scary. I wouldn't recommend this place. Oh and NO BATHROOMS. Just gross portapotties. it would be nice to have a place to wash your hands wouldn't it?

Cooper Spur is a great place for families to learn to ski…read more First, lets start with the price. For $400, you can get your *entire family* a season pass that is good for lift tickets *and* rentals. If you can commit to going 4, 5, or 6 times, that is a killer deal. Pencil out your alternatives, and you will definitely not find any less expensive options. You can use some of the money you save to get some ski school or individual instruction, which is well worth it. Consider it an investment in your families' future entertainment for years to come. The lodge is cozy but unpretentious and comfortable enough. Free wifi is handy, so you can send messages to family members (even if you don't get cell service on the mountain, at least they'll get the message when they get back into wifi). Food is just fine for what it is. The ski lift and runs are nice for beginners. They have a good rope tow to get started with, and then the ski lift isn't too difficult. They have a handful of runs ranging from beginner to intermediate. Even though the runs aren't long, the ski lift doesn't get too busy. Parking can be a problem, and sometimes you need to ride a shuttle up from the lot down by the resort (about 1 mile away). Also the rental center can be very busy, and a line can form that can take 30-45+ minutes to get through. Neither are a huge deal, but all things considered it is a good idea to arrive as early as possible to get good parking and avoid the rush. If you do have to wait, just practice some patience -- you'll get on the mountain eventually. They also have a very small tube hill (I haven't done this, but it looks pretty measly, so I wouldn't make a special trip up just for this) and options for nordic (cross-country skiing / snow-shoeing). If you get the family season pass deal, for another $40 you can add-on nordic rentals and access, which seems like a good deal if you'd like to have some variety. One other nice option is that, coming from Portland, you can take HW 26 (through Government Camp) or US 35 (though Hood River). It is good to have options, as traffic on 26 can back up on popular ski days. Also, there are lots of great restaurants in Hood River that can be enjoyed after a full day of skiing.
