Wayne and his mate were very accommodating and helpful during the entire process from organizing the trip, while on the water, and cleaning the fish. Our trip was just this week and we caught our limit in 3 hours. All very nice stripers! He told us prior to leaving the dock that the group he took out that morning had caught their limit in just under 2 hours and he wasn't sure how we would do that afternoon. Wayne does have a fish finder, but like any sport: fishing, hunting, etc. it really can be unpredictable. We had an awesome day and my customers loved the experience. I know a lot of other sales reps that also utilize Wayne and his expertise to take their customers out fishing. I have never heard a single complaint or bad experience about Gatling Guide Service. This was…read morethe worst experience of "fishing" I have ever had although I'm not quite sure you could call it fishing. We went for a half day trip with 6 people and 4 of the people never even touched a rod! And the only reason one of them did was because the mate was busy. The other person that touched a rod was handed the rod once the fish was already set and all they did was reel. That's not fishing that's being treated like a four year old and just catching. The mate never spoke to us and it was the most awkward boat ride I have ever been on. The captain spoke to us a little bit but by the end of the trip we still didn't know their names. The boat had one kind of bait and that was it and after about an hour at one spot with no bites another boat came within like 20 yards of us and was catching every time their lines were in the water. I understand that sometimes fish don't bite and that's fine but obviously they were there and biting. We weren't even fishing for half of the time because they were just driving around. It was a very bad experience and a complete waste of money and there is no way on earth that we will ever be going back!

Thomas Point Park in Annapolis is a county park that offers beautiful views of the Thomas Point Lighthouse, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the bay in general. There is a pavilion that can be rented and a day camping area but I believe what makes this park so popular in the summer months is that its a good fishing spot. As the name implies, the park is on a point of land that jets out into the bay offering great views of the water year round. From November through March visitors can drive into the park without paying a fee. But if you are wanting to drive into the park April though October then you need to obtain a permit and I think they can be a bit tricky to come by. Permits are sold at Quiet Waters Park and sold on a limited first come, first served basis. A limited number of daily permits are sold each morning and a total of 75 monthly permits are sold each month on the last Thursday of the prior month. So yeah, a little tricky but its understandable that admission to this small park, which is accessible through a residential neighborhood, needs to be limited.

The lake itself is gorgeous, and always so picturesque.... I have hiked the Lakeside Trail a few times, which is about three miles and mostly wooded, with two creek crossings (one easy, the other more difficult, requiring stepping on stones that could be slippery or even, at times, underwater). The first time we hiked the trail we did get lost as we skipped the difficult creek crossing and ended up going straight, and almost right back out of park...so bring water to drink and wear (or bring) a pair of shoes that can handle the creek water (it's not safe to swim--so I'm assuming, or wade around--in). UPDATE: Part of the Lakeside Trail has construction going on around it (near the easier stream crossing) and last time we encountered it we decided to turn around rather than trying to get around the mess...but there are other parts of the trail to explore, including hiking along the path that' intersects with Rock Creek Trail (or you can go around the other end of the Lakeside Trail, close to the Avery Park entrance...) Usually when we're here we don't do the entire trail, anyway, but turn around at various points, depending upon how long we want to walk. Although the park does get busy on weekends (and it can be difficult to get a parking spot at the Avery Park lot) the further along the trails you go the less people you'll encounter. Weekdays are also pretty peaceful. I look forward to visiting the Meadowside Nature Center when it reopens--this is located at the other park entrance at Muncaster Mill Road.

We ended up in North Beach this past weekend, how pretty! Small but nice! Boardwalk and all! There is a private beach but it's for locals. Very very cute quaint neighborhood surrounding the "beach" area. Looking at water will never get old. If you're a water baby, or just love looking at water (lakes, oceans, ponds) then this is it! Super beautiful. Love this! Romantic for couples!

Beautiful, charming, small town in the midst of the Western shore of the Chesapeake and nice…read morealternative for those who cannot or do not want to deal with the hassles of heading out to Ocean City or Sandy Point. Sandy Point is way too crowded and can be over stimulating for people wanting a relaxing yet local beach getaway. North Beach punches above its weight by having that peaceful, charming presence and vibe for you to relax. It is a year around destination, in that sure the beach (sand) might not be open, but the boardwalk is free all year around. I have found myself walking the boardwalk on gorgeous Spring and Fall days not during peak season enjoying myself. There are nice restaurants, eateries, food trucks and other charming venues around to grab smoothies, ice cream, and other delectables. My only gripe is the price of admission for the beach itself for non-county residents is a bit steep and has risen. You can rent an umbrella too, but that also costs more money. However, you do not always need to head to the actual beach and can enjoy the boardwalk and the local venues without having to pay that and get some sightseeing in. This is one of my favorite day-trip destinations in the DMV especially to wind down and relax with some good ole therapeutic peace and tranquility. NB is peaceful and slower paced than a lot of the faster paced locales in the DMV, folks should at least give the beach and town a shot to visit. It is a DMV day-trip destination for sure!

Also, park in no parking spots and drive their vehicle through the grass lots where the waterfowl graze to eat. The waterfowl, ducks, geese live at the park, have respect for them, if not trash your own property. If you feed the animals, don't give them bread it is bad for them. If you don't believe so Google it. If you happen to be someone who has the no care, no respect attitude and think you are above it all, don't visit the park. Most respect the park and want it to thrive for years to come so the children can enjoy it.

Even on a busy holiday weekend, I was able to sit outside, soak up the sun, and do some painting in total tranquility. The area is stocked several times a year but that doesn't mean it's any easier...on this particular occasion I did well but there have been some other times where well my son did better.
