We had a wonderful waitress...and I'm sad we can't remember her name. A lady in her 40s or 50s. She was super attentive, nice and welcoming. Wait time wasn't long, everything came out quickly. Our family group had burgers, shrimp and grits and a Sheppard's pie (actually a cottage pie). We also shared an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. The portions are large and almost all of us took another full meal home when all was said and done. Tasted great, we just couldn't finish it all! The location is nice too, lots to do down that strip. The place was empty at lunch and I know why. The advertised lunch specials were not evident. In fact, I've never paid more for lunch at any Mexican restaurant, anywhere. The sign says "sports bar" which usually means TVs are showing some sort of sports programming. There were a lot of TVs on the wall, but all were blank. The waitress was friendly enough but that couldn't make up for everything else. When drinking soda, refills everywhere else in Opelika are no additional cost. Not at Don Ramon's Mexican Sports Bar. One of our entries was the taco salad. It was like runny soppy joe on top of lettuce. We went here for lunch based on the earlier 5 star review. Wow, was that a mistake. We came Valentine's Day weekend from Columbus, GA after attending mass. He really wanted to take me here and I'm so glad he did. We had the bread and butter which was to die for! I don't think we talked much when we had our wagyu steak main course cause it was so good, we couldn't say a word to each other. The pepper sauce with the perfectly cooked medium rare steak (which came cut in two pieces, which is a really genius move to serve steak by the way), with white asparagus, caramelized onion, rose petals, and just pure deliciousness. Literally chef's kiss. We also couldn't make up our mind about desserts cause they had a Valentine's dessert menu and the couple sitting next to us also recommended the cookies and milk. Yeah- I'm really lucky and very spoiled. Definitely hit a sugar high, but absolutely worth it. Servers and greeters were also all so kind and attentive.
