I rented 2 cdjs and a v10 mixer the service from them was great and very straight forward. The people who leave bad reviews clearly have no clue what the gear they have costs and that they need the gear protected to be able to keep renting such high quality and high value equipment. i was skeptical from some of the reviews but I can confidently say those people don't know much about the gear they're renting and probably shouldn't be renting it. They simply make sure the gear you rent is protected by insurance and that is 100% understandable considering the equipment was thousands of dollars, the insurance company they provide you to use offers great deals aswell as a discount for using the company they offer. Also the stuff I rented was in perfect condition and everything worked great, absolutely nothing bad I can say about this company and I will 1000% rent from them again in the near future:) read more

After purchasing insurance, the girl Sierra on staff continue to ask me weird personal questions about where I was staying, where I was keeping equipment and all of these things that are covered by insurance. Then they proceeded to be discriminatory and a little racist towards the lupus organization, and the artist performing. I had this scheduled with them since September 9 and didn't know about anything they were requesting until week of show. So let's start off with being very clear. I'm not nor have I ever used sound and light gear. That being said I was optimistic about it. From the get go Rock N Roll made the whole process very easy to rent from them. I called before hand and spoke with a woman who was super nice and friendly. Made me feel at ease knowing I was in good hands. Jump to the pick up. Very easy pull up txt a number they come out and give a quick run down and that's all. Currently where i am, like I said before I have never used sound or light gear. I just ran a practice set up before my event and I felt nervous / scared / overwhelmed etc So I call since I was told I could call and someone would be happy to help. Well that part not so much. Ended up speaking with a male employee (didn't catch his name) Well I explained I was having issues and that I had never use sound and light before. The employee was very quick to just run off things to do with out trying to help me understand. I could hear in his voice the lack of care and just basically over it mentality. Over all he could have been having a rough day or maybe he doesn't normally answer the phone. What I did learn was I should have asked more questions in person rather then relay on the phone call option. I would still use Rock N Roll again for sure just may plan better. read more

Needless to say, this business "rocks", but it has video production and PA equipment you can "roll" out as well. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that R&R Rentals has more that music equipment. For video production, they carry: - video cameras, - lighting - Boom Poles w/ "Dead Cats" - shotgun and wireless microphones. - Beachtek XLR boxes - "C" stands - recorders I am told they will soon be getting a Sound Devices MixPre recorder/mixer as well. If you're just having a party, they have PA equipment and fog machines for rent as well. They will walk you through using the equipment as well. My experience has been their rental costs are very reasonable. All that said, I highly recommend R&R Rentals for video and party equipment rental. This business is an old Austin gem. read more

I rarely write reviews but this time they went too far. I had rented from here before covid and it was great. Now i echo the worda of another fellow Now, with covid restrictions mostly behind us, this business has morphed into a "We'll call you, dont call us" business. It feels as though they do not want customers. You cannot enter the store, I have to submit a request to rent 2 weeks in advance and they decide what deposit, if any, to charge, if they contact you...because, as I said before, the customer can only submit a plea for equipment. Absolute WORST service I've ever received from any rental company let alone a PARTY EQUIPMENT rental company. After filling out the first application and realizing I would not be able to cover the out of town rental fees, I was told by an employee, "I am sorry about the misunderstanding BJ. We cannot change our out of town policy. If there is someone on your team that wants to take responsibility for the equipment, pay for, and rent under their name please ask them to put in a request. We can help them quickly." Fortunately, a friend of mine located in Austin Tx decided to fill out an application for us, for which she was interrogated about by an employee over the phone. After the employee decided my friend was not who she claimed to be, after sending pictures of her ID, listing her workplace and address that matches her ID, she was told they would need a PICTURE OF HER LEASE in order to "consider" approving the application... this all happening the weekend of my wedding, which I explained in the initial application. I'm severely displeased with this crap experience with folks that clearly don't want to do GOOD business, I would not recommend renting from or SPEAKING to this company ever at all. read more

Rock and Roll rentals is a rip off. They charge for gear and make you pay a deposit if they don't trust you. ( not everyone has to submit a deposit). Even after jumping through their hoops, they then don't provide good aftercare service. I was made to set an appointment and wait, however when I drove up to do an exchange, another gentleman was waiting there and he was allowed to get gear without a reservation. When I questioned the owner about his policy, he asked me what was my point? I am highly offended and won't rent for them again. Poor owner attitude equals poor service. read more

Updating a previous negative review. The gear and service were good, though there was an issue when I returned the set of speakers I borrowed. The speakers were supposed to come with a set of cables that I never got and RRR billed me $146 for them thinking I had lost them. Afterward, the owner reached out to say that he had reviewed the footage from my pickup and said that I had left the cables at RRR, which I find believable, so they refunded the purchase. It was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and I appreciate the effort they went through to double-check the transaction. Make sure you have absolutely everything that's on your contract in your possession when you leave and you can avoid some heartburn. read more

I really wish there were no stars I could give to RRR. They have given me several bad experiences and they have yet done it again. I wrote a review about 1.5 years ago on my bad experience with RRR because they earned it. I am now in a situation where I needed to rent a PA speaker. The rat bag that I am dealing with now decided to participate in making my relationship worse with RRR. He wants me to remove my poor review from the last time before he rents the speaker to me. I told him to cram the gear where the sun doesn't shine. I am not sure why businesses like this think they can get away with abusing and manipulating their customers, but here we are. I am more resolved to not ever rent here and to make sure everyone knows about how they treat their customers--poorly, with abuse, disdain, nickel and diming and manipulation. You are not good RRR. You don't treat your customers with any grace or respect so congratulations. You have earned another bad review. Here was my last review for reference: Rock n' Roll rentals in Austin, TX on Oltorf decided they needed to charge me $11 for an extra day for 3 monitors I rented for a week. I have been a customer for years and have always been on time. I also paid for a power cord I forgot to bring back the last time I rented. It was overpriced at around $11. I asked if they would not charge me for the extra day this time around. They said not to take it personally so I told them not to take it personally when I take my business elsewhere in the future. Been a customer for years I made a request to rent a fog machine sounded like it was a go Hi c we received your rental request. We are reserving our fog machines for rentals with lighting next week. HEB sells dry ice and you can achieve the "graveyard fog" effect that clings to the ground with it. Unbelievable selection, great rental prices and an incredibly knowledgable staff. Every gear shop in the world should watch and learn from this store. I wish that every city in the world had a shop like this, but I can only dream. Truly unrivaled! We had planned on renting a medium-sized PA with two 18" subwoofers, and then United Airlines erringly checked one of our band gear cases to New Delhi, INDIA, and boom! We were suddenly also in need of renting lights, microphones, and a mixer as well. Rock 'n' Roll Rentals easily came through with plenty of exactly what we needed in-stock and even the same Allen & Heath ZED mixer that we travel with, which ultimately saved us 15-20 minutes of tweak time at soundcheck. Our show went without a hitch, and we were even able to hire Oscar to come pick up the gear from the Driskill Hotel (where our show was) since we had flights to catch. Props to Sierra, Craig, Will, Devon(sp?), Oscar, and the associate that checked us in for making our Rock 'n' Roll life that much easier. Do not hesitate from renting from this shop. In a larger, new location on Oltorf, this place has all your "rock and roll" rental needs. Seriously, sometimes you need one more pre-amp or microphone for your recording project. None of your friends seem to have one you can borrow, and you really don't want to spend the money on purchasing something you're only going to use for a weekend. The prices are way more reasonable than you'd expect - check out their website for rates (weekly and monthly). But do be sure to be extremely clear and precise about the type of equipment you need - they gave my boyfriend the wrong cables, and he ended up having to go back. They gave him the right thing the second time around, but it would have been nice to avoid the extra trip. read more

I rent from rental companies nearly 3 times a week in Los Angeles. I came here for SXSW with a major label. When we were in a pinch when all of the studios were booked, I figured a rental company would be willing to supply us with some recording gear for our hotel room (since two multi-platinum and grammy nominated artists wanted to collaborate). Our showcase was at midnight and we were leaving directly after to catch our next flight to our tour in South America. Therefor, I had to coordinate with some other members of the label team to organize an in person pick-up and drop-off. The owner and manager, Jim, told me he would not rent to me. I offered to rent for double the cost, put a $15k deposit on a card, and pay a 5% restocking fee ($750) and he still told me no. Specifically, he told me I couldn't rent because I was "an out of towner". I personally own the gear I was looking to rent at home, plus more. The gear wasn't even worth $15k, it was worth about $6k. I understand I look sketchy being from "out of town" and not a local, but I think theres an equally sketchy business man trying to make a quick dollar. We are clearly good for the money, so maybe that is why he was trying to take advantage of the situation. Granted, every business can refuse business from anyone they choose. I appreciate him exercising his rights as much as anybody else, but for a big time artist or big record business in a pinch, don't count on this guy to help you out! read more

On March of 2020 I got a buy out quote of 434 even though I had already paid over $1000 on it and that doesn't include the $60 dollar deposit that I already put on it. Sure whatever. Fast forward 20 months and they're still charging me. I've almost paid 1800 dollars for a USED guitar that when brand new is $1000 dollars. I then have to text these people because they don't have a phone service anymore and they have the freaking AUDACITY to tell me they will send me a buy out quote. Just never ever rent to buy. Saved our butts for SX'16. Some shisters had a PA set aside for us. We went to pick it up today $5600 ten so fee for a small room. We said asta and headed to Rock and Roll. Right around $400 for a week !! Other than the fact that they still ask for your mom's phone number as a reference they have a good, medium end selection now. No longer have to start standing in line on the Monday before SX for gear. That problem was a lack of capital on their part and a terrible underwriter for insurance. Decent boards, Yorkville power speakers and all kinds of other little things including drum kits etc. An Austin original for sure and they have two locations. Staff is friendly , but clearly cautious which makes for an uncomfortable experience when renting. You think you were resting the Crown Jewels for the weekend. read more

My wife and I own an Austin video studio (ARISE), and we rely on RnR for projects requiring an extra light, audio recording device, etc. We've been in business for a few years, with a huge learning curve! RnR has helped us greatly-they are one of the secrets to our success as professional videographers. They help us to keep costs down, so we don't have to warehouse a bunch of bulky lights, for example. They store a huge array of audio-video equipment. Because of their broad selection, their service allows us to "test-drive" gear before we buy it, and most times we realize that we don't have to buy it because we can rent it. ;) Most of all, I am grateful for their understanding. The gear is usually ready to go as is, with batteries charged and settings adjusted. Team members are knowledgeable, ready to answer questions about the equipment. And once or twice, we dropped a microphone cover, or broke a clip, and they've been cool. Great local service. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I have been using the rock n roll rentals on Burnett road for years with no problems, no issues ever. I have always had excellent service from that store. Unfortunately, they are listed as temporarily closed. As a full time DJ, I have pop up events that can sometimes book last minute. This was never a problem at the Burnet store and I was always able to receive prompt and amazing service. This was absolutely not the case at the oltorf store. I drove 40 minutes only to arrive to signs stating they only did curbside service. Ok, so I called. I was then told that I was unable to place an order over the phone and would need to complete the online form and wait for someone to contact me to even start the order even though I already have an account set up with rock n roll rentals. So I filled the form out and submitted it. I called again to ask if I could pay a rush charge since my event is tonight, but was told no and that I would have to wait and it was possible I wouldn't even get my order today and if I did it would be after my event already started. Frustrated, I weighed my options and left. I ended up going to guitar center in round rock. I was able to get fast, in person, amazing service with no hassle or ridiculous curbside restrictions. Its pains me to end this business relationship, but rock n roll rentals poor business model during these trying times has caused me to permanently fulfill my DJ and lighting needs elsewhere.. P.S. by the time they finally emailed me, I had already driven to round rock, picked up the lights from guitar center, and made it home. When I finally recieved the email, instead of immediately helping me with my order, I was told I needed to fill out yet ANOTHER form before they would even start my order. Okay so I needed this thing. At 5:30 on a Friday night. Because without it my band at 7 o'clock and my other band at 10:30 would have had to play acoustically. With 2000 loud motorcycles 10 feet away on 6th St. Not a recipe for success. My main PA amp blew at 5 o'clock on a Friday night of an incredibly busy weekend just as one musician was finishing his set. Thanks to these musical angels of mercy, at 5:40 I had a new one in my hand for the exorbitant price of $31 for two weeks rental. Open Friday night when I needed them? Yes. Had what I needed? Yes. Did not charge me an arm and a leg because they knew I was desperate? Yes. Nice helpful people with smiles on their faces (on Friday night just before closing time)? Yes. Rock N Roll Rentals is by far my favorite in town. They always have the gear I need when I need it, and with the flexibility of renting for just a weekend or for an entire month, with very reasonable rates for both, I can try out gear I'm thinking of purchasing, or just get what I need for the weekend's show. Sometimes I wish their PA offerings were a little more diverse than just Yorkville and QSC, but considering the reliability and sound of those two, I've been satisfied. I would like to see JBL available, though, because I like them a little more. But that's just personal preference. While there selection is nice, it is the hours of operation and sign up procedures that I don't like. I think that 11-6 is too limited. You have a gig at 11pm, which means you probably load up around 8. If you have a problem, then Rock and Roll Rentals can't help you. The limited business hours is probably why there is usually a wait to get service. Also, on Saturday, they close at 5:30. This can be very frustrating as there is no sign that states this. But there is a sign that says "Open 11-6 monday Saturday". Registering with them can be very problematic. You need the address of two friends which can be a little tricky to get. You also need to verify your address. When I signed up, it was difficult to verify my address because I hadn't had a chance to go to the DMV for a new license yet. I should have just given them my old address. And when I looked at my watch and saw that it was 5:15, I offered to drive home and get a recent bill that came in the mail. The guy helping me informed that this could not happen because they close at 5:30 on Saturday. Seriously, you couldn't stay open 10 extra minutes. I really don't understand this 6pm close time. And closing at 5:30 on Sat. is just stupid. I would like to see some competition because then I think this place would refine their paperwork, get a customer friendly computer system, and get there shit together. I bet this place would go out of business of the competition stayed open til 10pm. read more

So this is one business I never envisioned having to go to, let alone writing a review for. Me and sound equipment? But I recently put on an event and needed speakers and mixers and all kinds of things I new nothing of. I was referred to Rock n' Roll Rentals and upon entering, was amazed that something like this existed. I can only imagine as an artist, what an incredible service these guys offer as their pricing seemed pretty amazing. Being totally clueless as to what I needed, I asked the guys working to direct me and they did a great job of outfitting my needs and making sure hubby understood how it all hooked up. Unfortunately, the projector we ended up going back for (along with a huge screen) ended up overheating on us at the event, making it and the screen pretty useless. Still waiting to see if I get any kind of credit on that. I'm doubtful at this point....which is disappointing compared to the rest of the experience. I'm still a fan though and now that I know how cheap and easy the sound equipment is....well, let's just say my parties are gonna get a lot louder, if nothing else;) ***UPDATE: Craig the manager PM'd me today to get my last name so he could look at my rental and sure enough, he got right back to me and confirmed an issue with my projector. He apologized for the delay and promptly offered a credit and made an already (mostly) happy customer pretty darn impressed. All the same things I wrote about this last time were true -- you DO have to sign away your future millions, give them blood, fingerprints, a lock of hair, your grandmothers immigration papers and a record of your past four years tax returns. But they've got gear and what I rented was cheap, the guys were nice and knew their stuff. Just head in there armed with three references and their addresses and phone numbers and you should be fine. That's really the most painful part -- trying to desperately get ahold of your friends while lurking about in store with band members who think showering is passe. read more

Yes, Rock 'n' Roll Rentals' selection is good and their prices are great (compared to Musicmakers or Music Lab). I'm apparently just bugged more than others by a couple specifics of how their business is run, namely: They only keep customer records for 6 months! That's ridiculous. Computers should make this kind of limit obsolete. Ask me to update my references, don't delete me! The wait is painful - and it's exacerbated by their insistence on using paper files (I'm told it's for legal reasons) and dot-matrix printers and the like. Would've been a 1-star review if I'd written it when I was fuming mad last week. revision: to their credit, Rock 'n' Roll Rentals has been quite responsive (and quickly!) to my complaints, at least with explanations and empathy. The customer files apparently do remain on the computers, and accounts may remain active as long as 12 months, at which point a new rental agreement is required. I know I need their service, so I'm sure I'll return some lazy afternoon when I'm not in any hurry. read more

Man, these guys got a LOT of my money over the last eight years! ... And I'm not complaining. What I got in return was a top-notch PA that I used for two summers (for all those gigs my five-piece band showed up for at venues with no equipment on site), a decent Epiphone acoustic guitar, recording gear, and enough mics/stands/cables to rival the world's largest ball of yarn in tangled-up knots. Nice guys. That one guy who drums for Chili Cold Blood (Matt Puryear, thanks Google) has been there the whole time I've been going there and is always helpful as can be. Reasonable prices, too.
