I was there with an appointment to see Nicki for a haircut and style. This salon accepts walk ins too. This time I opted for embracing my curls and having her cut the back with more layers to show my curls and layer it more. She usually straightens it with a blow dryer. This time she used a diffuser. I also get a color touch up and she is great about discussing the color options with you by bringing out her book of color. Please note that since this place takes walk ins, that means that your color process with Nicki may take more time if she accepts a walk in while you are waiting for your color to saturate your hair. If you don't like waiting for her to finish someone else who walked in during your appt, then do not get started with her. Maybe there's another stylist there who doesn't do this but it does ruin the "salon, relaxing experience" when you watch someone else get out the door before you who came in after you without an appt! Nicki was able to quicly get the walk in done in the nick of time, however, this is not always the case. Just tell her ahead of time that you do not like this being done and I'm sure she will work with you somehow. My curly cut turned out good, my color was just right and I would recommend Nicki but being that she's a caring professional who wants to stay busy, tell her in advance about your expectations and you'll receive the best outcome.

Unfortunately the color didn't land where we discussed, which is why I can't give more stars. I came in with specific inspiration photos for a soft, blended beige brunette balayage -- something lived-in that would grow out with no harsh lines. The result came out much chunkier and lighter than expected, with a pretty defined line at the roots that's especially noticeable when I pull my hair back. When I reached out, Mikayla was responsive and offered a correction with a root smudge and toner, which I appreciated. My hesitation was that those are exactly the techniques that would have achieved the look I originally asked for -- so it was hard to feel confident a redo would get me there. I asked twice why those techniques were not included as part of the initial service and both times my question was dodged with the offering of coming in for correction. More coloring isn't something I feel comfortable with while I deal with fragile postpartum hair. I asked if a partial refund was possible as a middle ground and unfortunately we weren't able to work something out.
