Completely unexpected, but such a great shopping experience at Rock Star Crystals! The employees are very knowledgeable about different types of crystals. I went in to ask if a rose quartz necklace I had was real, and the staff member immediately confirmed it was genuine. He also helped me choose a lovely fluorite pendant and a beautiful carnelian ring. The prices are fair, and I really appreciate how trustworthy this store feels. The service is horrible, and the employees are deceptive. The selection of items is nice however, the owners need to get new employees who actually care about selling the items in the store. I've never seen a business, whose employees simply don't care about any customer service or making any sales. it makes your mind wander as to how this place stays in business when I've seen them, lose several sales, including my own, and they simply didn't care.... BTW this is not retaliatory. This is just to give you a heads up of what to expect . They asked me to leave the store because I insisted they return my property to me in total. They changed the story so many times and apparently didn't have all the pieces I had given them. I had to call the police in order to get the pieces back (with the exceptions of the pieces that they no longer had) they refunded the money as well and asked me not to come back... why would I listen horrible service & deceptive practices. Fantastic little gem and mineral shop! So many things to look at, you need a few hours to carefully look over everything. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Lots of things for every budget but 90% of the store is priced well North of $150 with most being close to $1,000 for nicer pieces. Manhattan prices, for sure, but this shouldn't be shocking considering that there isn't a place with this kind of selection in the area. I think the larger pieces might have been well-priced, but the smaller pieces were priced 2-3 times what they should have been. I was walking by here two days ago and the window displays drew me into the store. It's larger than it appears from the street and the selection is *superb*. It almost feels like a small museum (and that's a compliment). The prices for most items are definitely on the high side, but many of them are really substantive in size and they're beautiful. The reason why I'm not giving five stars is because the guy working there (behind the counter) barely acknowledged me. Also; I was there for quite awhile (browsing) and he spent nearly all of that time having a loud video chat with someone. I purchased a lapis lazuli pendant from them and two days after purchase it broke. I literally wore it one time and 10 minutes after I put it on it slipped right off of the silver piece it was attached to as I walking to a bus stop. Because I had purchased a different crystal pendant from them in the past and had no issues I felt like I could trust that they sell quality products. So I was surprised and disappointed that happened. I found time to go to the store the next day to see if they could help me by exchanging the pendant because I still wanted to use it for the purpose I intended. He was completely dismissive and kept saying that all sales were final. I primarily spoke to one of the two people at the register and he suggested that I "spend $2 on krazy glue" to glue the pendant back into its place. I pointed out that that would require me to spend more money and when I purchased the product I did so with the confidence that it was solid. I also stated that I feel I was sold something broken although they insisted they didn't. The other worker spoke up in their coworker's defense and stated that if it was sold broken, it would have slid right off when he was tying the chain on for me to which I disagreed especially given how quickly it fell off my body and onto the ground. What was left on my neck when it fell was the chain with the silver attached to the chain. In showing up there, I was intentional about not being rude and just wanted to come up with a suitable solution that was fair. I stressed to them that I came there because I needed help especially because it was expensive. I'm not sure why they were so dismissive of me right away and I began to wonder later if my gender and race had anything to do with it. I just couldn't make sense of being treated that way and I suppose I may never know exactly what was coming up for them that they would talk to me like I am being wrong or unreasonable. When I mentioned that I was a graduate student, the worker who suggested I buy the glue quickly cut me off to say that he is a graduate student as well and have an apartment and pets and so on. I responded by saying that it wasn't helping to compare living circumstances and I just wanted to focus on the issue at hand. I resumed making my point before I got cut off and explained that the reason I brought up the graduate student thing to make the point that when I make an investment, I try to be thoughtful about it and again I reminded them that I had a good experience there before. He stressed that they inspect every piece and remove anything that is broken. I suggested that perhaps the way they inspect the type of pendant I purchased needs to change because they it didn't seem like anyone caught that the product was faulty. I wouldn't have purchased it if I knew that it would instantly break. In response, he again said I could just spend $2 on the glue, as if I'm being cheap and unreasonable. As I'm reflecting on it further now and realizing how much gaslighting I feel I experienced from them, I am beginning to think that somebody (perhaps not one of them) was aware that the product was faulty and put it up for sale anyway or that they don't inspect everything as thoroughly as they suggest because somehow the product I bought slipped through the cracks. He also brought up how their products are from out of the country and they are sold to them as is. He went on and on and on to justify not helping me in a manner that was fair. Either way, they will never see a dime from me again. I feel like I got scammed and they were upset I had the audacity to speak up for myself. It was truly bizarre and hurtful. I'm hoping that in sharing my experience, I can help someone else avoid potentially being gaslit or sold a product that isn't solid. If you can, go elsewhere, where the company cares about integrity, the customer satisfaction, and operation from a space of good energy. Because this ain't it. read more

I checked out this crystal shop when I was in the area with time to kill. I spent a good 20 minutes in here. I've been an avid crystal collector and crystal healing practitioner for quite a bit. I can confidently say this place is more for those who are mineral/gem stone collectors and not so much those seeking information about using crystals for healing. The store was bustling, they clearly get a lot of customers. I guess lots of folks are willing to spend an arm and a leg for a mediocre specimen. These prices are steep even though they really shouldn't be. I guess that's literally the price you pay for existing in Manhattan? Rent can't be cheap. Besides the steep prices, the ambiance and energy of the store (yes I am one of those "energy" people) is not one conducive to relaxation. They are VERY concerned about shoplifters here. There are reminders placed all over the store, "smile you're on camera." It's uncomfortable. You are also required to grab a tray and write down your list of stones and their prices to checkout. The young woman at the register constantly reminded customers (sometimes screaming) and threatened customers not to be checked out if they didn't have a tray. It was a bit much especially because so many of the stones have price stickers on them. Overall there are some nice crystals here just not worth the steep price. read more

If you're struggling to buy a gift, I recommend coming here, especially if your giftee is into astrology. I recently came here to get a birth stone for someone who was of a particular star sign, and they have lots of options which are suitable for gifts like that. I think most of the things are overpriced here (they are just minerals after all), but there is a pretty good price range here. Like, if you want a gift that's less than $20, you might wind up with a pretty small rock, but you'll definitely be able to find one. I have the feeling that since rocks in new york and rocks elsewhere are exactly the same, so most of what you're paying for is new york rent- ergo, it would be a lot cheaper to shop for these things outside of the city. However, the convenience I'd say is worth it, so consider checking them out. read more

I was surprised at the selection they had.. it's actually a much larger store than I thought! And what's really great about it is you can leave with a small trinket or pendent ranging from $5-$20, get strands of beads (with a clasp) from $10-$45, or some really classy pieces with great quality stones for a bit more. They also have some neat display pieces. And.... stone wands? They got those too! In general: yea, of course you can find cheaper specimens/raw stones/pendants/strands for cheaper online.. but where's the fun in that? I like seeing the stones in person and feeling them. I've quickly become a repeat customer at Rock Star Crystals and recently a friend gave me a few random stones and pieces of jewelry but couldn't be sure if the stones were real and if so what all of them were. When I stopped in the other day the two persons that were working a young woman and young man (Dang! I should have gotten their names but I was so busy saying "thank you" I didn't think to ask... ) Anyway, they both took time to look at each of my pieces and let me know what stones they were. Even better, the young man took one ring and totally shined it and I practically had to wear shades when he was done! They are super knowledgeable, very patient and warm-hearted people. The prices for a few pieces are a bit higher but I fully trust their sourcing and selection is amazing. I've also walked pass and seen them burning sage and palo santo to keep the stones clear when there wasn't even anyone in there. So it wasn't for show, It was simply to care for the stones and general energy in the store. THAT is worth a few extra dollars here and there. Customer service and knowledge is as important as the actual product and these two are great and the store and items are well displayed. In a word, "Wonderful!" This shop is, excitingly, located around the block from my office. I've stopped in before to look around and finally returned today to ad to my crystal collection. I first shopped for crystals in Sedona a few months ago and am happy to see there are equally fun shops here in the city. One thing I wish this shop had is a description of the healing properties for the stones. Fortunately, I went in with a shopping list! Had I not, I would have needed some assistance from store employees- which looked readily available and willing to help those who requested assistance. I went in looking for a handful of stones and found 4 of them- not bad! I grabbed an additional 2 stones at the register because they had cards with their descriptions and I liked their healing properties. My cashier didn't seem to be too knowledgeable on the stones when I was checking out - I had to let him know what some of the stones were. Not a huge deal though! I will definitely be back, maybe on a lunch break or so! Pricing seemed to be pretty standard.
