I need to disagree with these other reviews based solely on the staff. Dr. Quirante is a gem. She is very professional and thorough. However, the buck stops there. I have been a patient/client there for a number of years and have watched the staff turn over and, subsequently, services deteriorate. Recent case in point: We order glasses for my daughter. "We'll call you when the frames come in." Okay. ONE MONTH LATER we receive a call. "Uh, well they don't make that frame any more." And you didn't find out sooner because?? Okay. Make another trip into the office to pick out other frames. Lonnnnng wait. After she selected another frame and paid additional money, we were told that the glasses would be ready for pick up "in about two weeks." Okay. Got a call ONE MONTH LATER and was told there was a "problem" and they were sent back for repair but should be back in three days. TWO WEEKS LATER we were called and told they did come back, but were wrong yet again. PEOPLE...THESE WERE READING GLASSES! Okay. A few more days (and we now know that this means TWO MORE WEEKS the glasses were in. My daughter drove down and picked them up after waiting an unreasonable amount of time yet again. Enough said. Honestly, I don't think the exam deserves anything other than 5 stars for knowledge and quality care. The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde issue is related directly to product and professionalism. I'll spare the unethical insurance issues at hand. My husband and I both had exams and needed glasses. Insurance was billed and he had an outrageous expense for 'drugstore quality' readers where lenses pop out constantly; the frames are not durable. I was quoted an outrageous price for frames with lenses I didn't really need. I do believe in quality product and the old adage 'you get what you pay for.' Well, we paid for it, but had to take our business elsewhere. Sorry folks, shop around. read more

Great service, good docs and decent prices on contacts and eyeglass frames but from my experience, I would not recommend to others having your eyeglass lenses done here because I was quoted 2X as much $ as Costco Optical or 39dollarglasses.com. I took my prescription elsewhere and had lenses done for less than half of the quote. read more

Everyone at RBO has always been kind, professional, helpful, and knowledgeable! I met with Dr. Scheer for the first time today and was so impressed by how much time and attention she gave to my exam. I was even a little late for my appointment, (darn rain), but she never seemed rushed. She made me feel comfortable, answered all my questions, and even lent a hand when I was looking for glasses. The glasses search was taken over by the others in the office and they were so patient with me, even though I kept going back and forth on different styles. Great magazine selection too, even though I never really had to wait for anyone!! I'm picking my new pair of glasses up in a few weeks and am stoked. Even though I'm 20/30 and 20/60, Rockaway Beach Optometry is 20/20! read more

I was in San Francisco visiting some old friends and we decided to take a road trip from Half Moon Bay all the way to Point Reyes. We stopped for breakfast and my right eye was driving me bonkers! I went to the bathroom and discovered there was a rip in my contact lens! This was a new pair I was trying out for my new prescription I got in LA, so I had no backups, and shame on me, no backup glasses either. Because I have ambliopia in my right eye (which is where the ripped contact was), I couldn't exactly take it out and wait until the next day to take care of it. So, in a rush, I started calling optometrists up and down the coast. Every one of them made it extremely difficult to get what I needed - they wanted to do a full fitting exam, or have my doctor call them with the prescription instead of letting me forward the RX etc etc. The group and I decided we were going to drop me back off in San Francisco while they finished the trip out, which made me sad, but I didn't want to ruin their trip because of this SNAFU. Anyway, I called one more place on the way: Rockaway. They had my prescription, they let my forward the email with my prescription and they didn't make me pay for a fitting. They didn't hassle me at all in fact, and because of that, I was in and out in less than 10 minutes and only had to spend $17. They were super nice about all of it. I was / am so, so, so grateful. Dr. Quirante is awesome. I have been going there for years. She's a great eye doctor. We have kids and she was great with them, too.

I was a patient with Rockaway Beach Optometry back around 2005 and loved the people and quality of their service. I then got a job that had HMO insurance, so I had to go elsewhere for a while. Fortunately, I have been able to return as my new employer has insurance that works here. It is WONDERFUL to be back! I had an exam by Dr. Yolanda Scheer this weekend and she did a thorough, highly professional assessment followed by an excellent discussion of her findings. The staff and technicians are also the best I have ever encountered. I am delighted to be back here and in their superb care. read more

Talented, efficient, effective, and smart, Dr. Quirante is hands down the best optometrist I've ever had. Her exams are thorough, and I never feel rushed when deciding between visual #1 or visual #2. What's more, she actually helped me pick eyeglasses, and given her fashion sense, I trusted her opinion on the latest eyewear, and what frames best suited my face. Her staff is professional and knowledgeable, and her new office is lovely, airy and full of light. I've been wearing eyeglasses for 23 years, and I've never felt so cared for. A lovely 12-minute drive from the city, it also boasts FREE PARKING--where in SF can you get that? Dr. Q is the best optometrist around!!! read more

I'm thoroughly content with everything except they don't wipe the machines down with rubbing alcohol before you use them. Don't get me wrong here, Dr. Q was perfect, her help was perfect and the guy helping me find the right pair of glasses was extremely helpful - this place is a well oiled machine - but I didn't feel comfortable putting my head and eyes in those machines without them cleaning them first - cleaning them in front of the patient puts them at ease knowing the machine is clean. Every optometrist I've been to has always wiped the machines down in front of you. Large selection of glasses and a good selection of sunglasses, too. read more

Our entire family of four has being going to Rockaway Beach Optometry since 2000, with the exception of a brief move out of the region, and we are always pleased with the opthamological services provided by Dr. J. Quirante and Dr. S. Scheer. Besides the exceptional manner and attention that both Quirante and Scheer give to their patients, a unique feature of the RBO practice, is their Zeiss equipment used for eye exams. RBO is one of a handful of practices within a 150 mile radius that uses this for eye exams, which offers a greater level of precision (diagnostic assessment done in .10 increments instead of the routine .25 increments). This allows for eyeglass lens to be more closely tailored to the patients needs and vision requirements. Also the "retinal vision scan" saved in digital format each year allows for a very effective comparison of any changes in the health of a patient's eyes. Administratively, we like the automatic email reminders for appointments, plus the voicemail call reminders. All helpful when you are busy and distracted. Finally, the selection of frames seems limited per other reviewers, which is not unlike other practices. Some years we buy frames at RBO when we spot what we prefer. Other times not. We are overall very satisfied and remain steadfast in our loyalty to this practice. read more

I recently had an eye exam at Rockaway Beach Optometry, and my entire experience was excellent! The staff was courteous and helpful, the doctor (Dr. Sheer) was extremely knowledgeable and professional, and the whole process from scheduling my appointment to receiving my glasses and contact lenses was better than I could have expected. Who knew that getting glasses could be such a great experience? I am personally shocked to hear that people had issues with the staff or anyone else at the office - I felt like I was not only given top-notch care, but I was also given the attention (but not the pressure) that one would hope to receive when visiting the doctor's office, or any other business, for that matter. Easy to make apts, great staff, latest technology - really a great experience - this is my 3rd year. Dr. Jennifer Q is the best and, for the first time, I feel like I understand what is going on with my eyesight. I really loved that 'internal' view of my eye - Dr. JQ explained it all to me. She also helped me pick out glasses (I'm such a dork) and I get raves!!! read more

I've been a patient for about 3-4 years and Dr. Quirante is indeed very awesome. But the front office/ Optician services are lacking. Every year we go through the same ordeal getting our eyeglasses order fulfilled correctly. My husband once had to have his glasses redone 3 times! It was months before they got the order right! We still don't know if the error was on the lab or if the optician ordered them incorrectly (They blamed the lab). I will try one more time because I do not need new glasses this time around. My husband, a full-time eyeglasses wearer, won't. As much as he likes Dr. Quirante, he refuses to give his business to an inconsistent office. read more
