Jeremy at the front desk has been passive aggressive with me on my last 3 visits there. When I was leaving he said "I would say hope to see you soon, but not too soon." I was very offended by this, but laughed it off. Then at the door I said have a good day and was met with "absolutely ". Then I said thanks and was met with another "absolutely". I find this odd as I am a good customer. I buy expensive frames and 400 + dollar lenses with each exam. This just one example, however I'm am so annoyed I now have to find another optometrist. This is a bummer because Dr. Quang, in my opinion is the best optometrist I have ever seen. She is also very kind but I won't go back. read more

I was on my last pair of contacts (I procrastinated). Plus my OG eye doc is all the way in the city, hence the laziness. During my frantic search I found Dr. Sherryl! Jeremy was so polite and helpful with scheduling over the phone. I usually don't leave reviews because I hate writing, but I had to say something about how amazing my experience was today at my appointment. Dr. Sherryl is cheerful, yet calm. She's polite, professional, personable, patient, and kind. I asked her how long she's been practicing: 30+ years! You can tell she loves her job and cares about her patients. She took the time to explain all the imaging and answered my questions with thoughtful consideration. I've encountered a few rushy, arrogant, not-good-at-listening doctors in the past, so I'm thrilled I found Dr. Sherryl. Even after all this time, she hasn't grown weary or grumpy! Or maybe I just got them on a good day, who knows? We need more grace in this world, people! Even the staff working that day (Jeremy at the front desk and a woman with red hair.. I can't remember her name, sorry!) were super delightful. They literally escorted me from the front door to the back instead of pointing to corners for me to go to and then Dr. Sherryl walked me back to the front after my exam with some proper parting words. I don't know how good the doc is, so 3 stars. Getting an appointment and in to the appointment was obnoxious. I found the staff pushy, rude, and frankly disrespectful of my time. They wanted me to come, indicated I could either pay $40 for the fancy retina scan that insurance almost never pays for; or I could choose to maybe have my eyes dilated (or not), which would require maybe a second visit. I have never had that kind of choice to make, and it just seems really disrespectful of my time and money. I'd be open to checking them out in the future, if they change their approach and chill out a little. read more

I have been coming here for years since I was younger with my grandmother and have always looked forward to my appointments. Dr. Quong always takes the time and explains everything she is doing, all the results and answers all my questions thoroughly. Dr. Quong and Jeremy, at the front desk, very friendly, calm, personable, knowledgable, and professional. Jeremy is informative about insurance and is very prompt. During COVID, they have taken many extra precautions and have continued with them making me feel very safe when I go. They do take VSP insurance. I used to get my contacts and glasses at Costco, but I noticed I wasn't able to read things I should have been able to. That said, I looked around for a small business and found Sherryl. I've been going to her for the past 1-2 years and every time i visit, it's very pleasant. From Jeremy at the front desk to the staff in the back, they're all very very nice and professional people. Sherryl is the sweetest doctor I've ever visited and today she offered me to test out her color deficient glasses!! I am red/green color deficient so seeing through them was exciting. Anyway long story short, big companies like Costco Optical is not the way to go. They don't seem to actually care about your prescription and is always in a rush to get your appointment over with unlike Sherryl's team. They take their time and make sure you are comfortable & set to go. (also their COVID precautions are the best I've seen, even better than my dentist!) read more

Dr. Quong is the kindest person you will meet! She is on time, friendly and professional. Her office admin. Person Jeremy is also very easy to work with, super nice guy. I've been seeing her for almost 10 years. I did switched to a different optometrist when I moved 5 years ago. But was very disappointed with my experience with that office. So I came back to Dr. Quong. Her office is nice and clean. What I love most about her practice is that she has the Optomap machine! Which perform Optomap Retinal Exam - Eye Exams Without Dilation. The Optomap Retinal Exam provides a panoramic view of the back of a person's eye (the retina). This panoramic view displays over 80% of the retina at one time. So if you are not a big fan of dilation, this is the place to go! read more

I have been a customer for 10+ years and even my son is now a customer. Each year I look forward to seeing Dr. Quong, Susana and Jeremy. They are like family to me. Only great experiences with them and talk about the excellent customer service by Susana and Jeremy. They are a prime example in my opinion of front line staff who cares and funny too. End of year means another insurance year gone. So off to the optometrist we go. I had noticed my vision declining a little anyways. After my bad experience with another Peninsula provider, I was eager to find someone better. Quick scan on Yelp found Dr. Quong, and in this case any review was better than no review. My wife actually went to her first and liked her much better than our previous place, so it was good enough for me. Commentary on specific categories: Front desk staff - Friendly and helpful. Very knowledgable too. Attending nurse - Business oriented but friendly. Optometrist - Dr. Quong is friendly and chatty. Exchanged some stories about optometry incidents. She is pretty patient and understanding, especially of my phobia about anything close to my eyes. Locale - Located on San Mateo Ave in downtown San Bruno (no really thats not confusing at all). Easy to find parking. Eyeglass selection - Smaller selection than I was used to. Technology - Modern. Optomap is available. I had a significantly better visit with Dr. Quong's office than with my previous optometrist experience. Much friendlier, and also explained things well. I really hate the old school doctors who do things without explaining, we as patients may not have medical degrees but we are not stupid and have a right to know whats going on. The eyeglass selection was a bit lacking, but other than that I had a good visit. read more

So I came back this year and had a good experience because Dr. Quong is a really good Optometrist, me thinks I usually go during lunch and parking has never been an issue. Jeremy was very helpful this time around and he helped me replace the lenses on my Rudy Project inserts. In fact, he's the one who found out my lenses were done wrong by the other place. He said prescription was correct, but the distance between my pupils were wrong which is why they didn't work for me. In fact, he helped me adjust my Fendi sunglasses that I didn't even buy from there. So nice of him! Suzanna still calls me Miss D***** this, Miss D**** that, which bugs me a little, but whatevers. She's also very easy to speak with which is very comforting. The office does lack in frame selection but the selection that's available is appealing. I came here after making the mistake of using LensCrafters in December 2018 for a pair of glasses that in the last year and a half I knew that I needed another prescription so I decided to use my insurance and try Dr.Quong And I am so glad I did, I had glasses already done here right after I went to LensCrafters in 2018 because my insurance kicked in and when I used LensCrafters I paid out of pocket but I needed the glasses badly, I can honestly tell you that you can see and feel the difference with the same prescription that I got from LensCrafters that first time in 2018 I went two weeks later and I got another pair of glasses also made with Dr. Quong with the same prescription but they were made totally different and I could see much clearer, so I have no idea what they did at LensCrafters and they worked fine at first the ones from LensCrafters, so this happened over time, I just had my annual check up with Dr. Quong last week and I had a great exam and she tweaked my prescription a little more for my glasses and they are the ones originally made from LensCrafters, so I'm actually going to get them fixed, so moral of the story,Dr.Quong is awesome at what she does at her staff is really good at what they do and they will take good care of you and if you wanna see someone good then I totally recommend this place and if you want to get cheated out and go to a place like " jiffy Lube for your eyes" then you go to LensCrafters read more

As a nurse for forty years now, I hate to admit that I am not the world's best at getting regular check ups, etc. Sad, really, since I have insurance, with dental and vision coverage. This past week, I finally went to have an overdue eye exam. I tried a different provider instead of going to Costco as usual. I was most impressed by everything about Dr. Quong's office. It has all the most modern technology, including a device called an Optomap that allows visualization of the retina, macula, and blood vessels of the eye, without dilation, a very important method for early diagnosis of eye problems and ongoing monitoring. The staff are very pleasant, courteous and efficient. Dr. Quong was wonderful and explained, in detail, her findings. I was especially impressed with the large selection of affordable eye wear, most of which was covered by my vision plan! read more

Sherryl and her staff are great. Suzanna is very efficient, however she has only called me once this year for my appointment , versus consistently in the past until I scheduled one, and I am not sure why. Perhaps its because I dont buy frames there anymore. I have been going for 6 years now and I feel they do an excellent job and the eye test with Optimap are very thorough. I feel the same as Dawn however, the frame selection is limited. I did find some great frames upon my first visit, but not since. Sherryl has helped me via email to find something, which is really out of the box and great customer service, but no fit... What is there again, I agree with Dawn, blingy and thats not me, too many labels and insignia's...I also have my own vintage frames and not that Sherryl's office is any different than other place, but if they take your frames to be fitted with lenses and the frames break, then no compensation, which I can understand if the frames are much much older, but not brand new ones, thats just a bad policy... Overall Sherryl Quong is a very good OD. She treats people with respect and educates them about their eyes and never, ever hesitates to answer all your questions, as incessant and ranting as they may be. read more

Of the thirty years that I've been seeing a doctor - primary care, dentist, Ob/Gyn, ER, etc., I have never been in an argument with the doctor until Dr. Quong. I've been going to her office for the last several years but it's typically been on a Saturday with the weekend optometrist. A couple of times I did see Dr. Quong where one of the visits was last year. As I was trying to explain my vision with my glasses, she did not want to listen, got upset and started arguing. I just had my annual checkup with the weekend optometrist and to my surprise, I find out that Dr. Quong wrote some nasty comments on my chart from last year. I am not surprised that during the last several years when I come in for my annual checkup, I am seeing a different weekend optometrist. The 3 stars are meant for Dr. Quong but 5 stars go to Jeremy and Suzanna, the office staff, and to Dr. Han, the weekend optometrist. Jeremy and Suzanna are always friendly and helpful and greet me by name. However, I would prefer to have Suzanna call me by my first name instead of Ms. It sounds too formal. read more

I came in with a lot of problems and Dr. Quong put me at ease. I have Kaiser and I had gone to them, but the doctor did not give me information that I could understand and he didn't give the assurance that he cared. I Sherryl gave me the same information but in more detail and showed me my film. She also had me come back for an exam for glasses, which showed I had some issue there as well. She gave me peace of mind that I'm OK for now, and we will revisit it later. I was able to find a nice pare of glasses with her help and have gotten a lot of compliments on them. I've only been going there for two years, but I've found this place to be very pleasant to deal with and more importantly, knowledgeable about eye care. When you step into the store, the front desk is very professional and courteous and the doctor even more so. I like her approach to the exam and her patience explaining what she does and why i might be experiencing this or that. I like their evening hours which makes it practical for me to go and see them after work. Other places i have gone to in the past have sort of seen it as their mission in life to extract every last cent that my vision care insurance covers. Not so here. The BEST Optometrist ever... I have previously been seen by an Optometrist in San Mateo for the past few years ...until my insurance change & I could no longer see my old doctor. I looked on Yelp & found great reviews for Dr. Quong so I thought I would give her a try. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the insurance process was, time to get an appointment and I realllllly like Dr. Quong's style. She explains things in a way that you and I can actually understand. She has a kind and gentle nature. She explains what she is doing, why she is doing it and what she is looking for. Their office hours were perfect, the office wasn't crazy busy where I had to sit in the lobby and wait for ever until she was ready for me. Suzanne works at the Front Desk and is very knowledgeable able various insurance plans and guides you through the whole process. I can actually say that I am glad that my insurance plan changed because I have now found an Optometrist that I will have my whole family see and will refer all of my friends to. It is important to know that if you are NOT happy with your doctor or service that you get along the Peninsula you don't have to continue seeing that office or doctor. Dr. Quong is an example of a doctor that "truly gets it." She is not old school, unfriendly, cold and talking over your head. She is down to earth and makes you completely comfortable. I plan on moving all of my children over to this office because it is important to have a clean, friendly office that gets you in and out. Pediatricians Optometrist along the Peninsula tend to have long waiting lists to get an appt and once you have an appointment you sit in the lobby waiting for the doctor to show up.
