For the most part the dogs get along great and have plenty of room to roam. What people tend to forget is this is FOR THE DOGS. If you bring food/treats they will approach you. If you're in the park they will approach you. It's their park. If you bring a toy its going to be played with by everyone. Just get out of the way and let the dogs play. There are picnic tables and benches for the humans. My one con: not open to the public, for valley stream residents only.

There are two large enclosures: one for small dogs under 30 lbs and one for larger dogs. This was the perfect place for our dogs to learn to socialize with other dogs and humans. I have several small dogs, so I walked into the small park enclosure. The other dog owners are super nice and friendly. Be sure to exercise proper etiquette like picking up after your pooch. There is a hose to fill your water bowls and a port a pottie for the 2 legged visitors. The park closes at sunset, so be sure to get there while the sun is still out.

We take our 24 lb dog to the smaller section, which is the limit. There are a number of owners who ate their bigger and aggressive dogs to the park. Our dog has been attacked (not play) and yelped on multiple occasions and the owners either didn't look up from their phones or laughed. Rough dog play is ok. Attacking a smaller dog and making her cry out really just means you shouldn't own a dog. Our dog plays well with other dogs, but the park attracts irresponsible owners. If you are an irresponsible dog owner please go to this park. That way I know how to avoid you in the future.

I love that he can be completely off the leash and has plenty of space to run around. Plenty of trees to mark and explore.The fences and gates are very secure. They have one side for the smaller dogs (25 lb and under) and another side for the bigger dogs. There are garbage cans but no poop bags available so remember to bring your own. There are also public metal water bowls and they turn on the water spout I'm assuming, once the weather gets warmer. It definitely wasn't turned on earlier this year. Benches can be located on the sides of the fenced in area for the humans and there's a covered area with seating toward the middle of each small and big dog side if you don't want to sit under the sun. A decent sized parking lot is right next to the dog park and there were always spots available the times that I have gone. It is very clean but of course that's also up to the people that frequent the park to pick up after their dogs and themselves. One time I was there, some guy brought his 3 dogs, sat on the bench and paid them no mind for 5-10 minutes. One of them pooped, he didn't pick it up and just left with all 3 dogs. Minus that one guy, all the other dog pawrents that go there were friendly and responsible from the times I've been there. I have heard of some of the bigger dogs fighting so just always keep an eye on your dog, whether you're on the big or small dog side. I highly recommend this dog park!

The pup was antsy and wanting to run around and we are in an apartment and don't really have a backyard, so we came here. There are two separate areas for small and large dogs. Both areas are fenced in and on the smallish side. When we arrived, there was a large pit bull in the small area. The large dog area had a huge mud pit in it, so I guess they were trying to avoid that area. The dog/owner was friendly, but they were leaving as we were entering. We only stayed maybe 15 minutes until the wind was too much. We'd come back, but the area, although clean, is smaller than some other dog parks like the one in Massapequa and in Blydenburgh. But it's conveniently located, so I am sure that we will be back. Note - no children under the age of 12 are allowed in the off-leash areas. Woof!

The first two times he was traumatized by the interaction from the other active and playful dogs. However, by the third visit, he was running and playing with a few of the dogs. I'm a first time dog owner, so the park looks fine to me. It's large enough for the dogs to interact with each other or venture to the side by themselves. I've met some amazing dog owners who have all been very friendly and helpful. Definitely bring your own water because I didn't see where you can fill the bowls they have in the park. They have a few benches for you to sit while the dogs play. I wish I lived closer to this park to take Milo more often. However, it will be my go to spot for him. Oh and each time I've taken Milo to the park, he sleeps like a baby at night. woo hoo!

I did my research and decided on Forest Park Barking Lot, and was also told that they had just reopened from renovations. It was also nice of the President to email me back when I sent an inquiry about if the lot was opened again. We've come with our pup twice, and he always takes a well deserved nap (and bath) both times. There's a large and small dog area, which is great if small dog owners want to make sure their dogs don't get trampled by the large ones! The park is great, there is nothing negative about the park itself. I haven't seen any dog poo just chilling in the park. It seems well managed. Some of the owners are very friendly as well. I think the watering hole is closed for the winter coming, so bring your own water! The only thing is that the two times we've been there, the same unneutered dogs seem to instigate humping that turns into fights. It's unfortunate, but some owners aren't very vigilant in watching their dogs and let the fights break out. We've seen two dog fights in which the owner of the ones being humped excessively, scream as they try to take their dog back. Most dogs tend to leave the park post fights. It ruins the whole park vibe when this happens, and isn't fair to others when we all just want our pups to have a good time.
