Came here with my girlfriend and her children. It was our first time. Upon entering, a woman from the cafe yelled to get my attention to tell me I can't have my thermos. I just had water and like to take it everywhere I go. I understood but by the same token think it's very silly. I understand no outside food, but was just an annoyance. There is a cafe, a small "arcade" which was really about 3-4 arcade machines, a motorcycle racing game and some claw machines, and a bar. There's were about 30 lanes and when we arrived on a Saturday around 3, there was a 45 min wait. The wait went by quickly as we first got a bite at the cafe, then our name was called as we ate. The kids had a blast. We played 5 games across 2 lanes and paid around $150. Seemed kind of steep to me, but some bowler alleys so by game, some by hour. Overall a great experience. read more

Great place but double check what you're paying for. I was just there with my son and the kid working tried to charge us over $60 for the 2 of us to play 2 games. He was trying to charge us for the lane next to us with 3 ppl who were still there playing. In the end, I paid for our 2 games, made sure to get my receipt and will always be careful there read more

We were here for a birthday party in July. It was the first time bowling for our kiddos and they had a really great time! The bumpers were helpful and the little ramp made it easy for everyone to play. We bowered for about an hour then had a private party room for pizza and cake. The place is okay. We had a couple issues with our lane and had to reset the pins at least 5 times. Some kind of glitch. We did get food here as well-- the cajun fries were bomb. Tenders were okay! This is a close to home spot so we will probably be back just because it's convenient. read more

This was going to be a much better review, but they cancelled all of their promotions the week before I visited. Who does that? $5/game bowling on weeknights? Place is gonna be empty. No more rent-a-lane deals? No more people. That'll keep me from coming back as well, with closer lanes and better management. And that's a shame, because I like things about this place. The lanes are well oiled. The machines are ancient but they work perfectly, so it's a neat kind of throwback. I'll take that anyday over new machines that keep getting pinfalls wrong. You also have those cool 80s graphics on the TVs. And this is an independent alley. The verdict: Nostalgia abounds in these lanes, but the prices are years before their time. Recently renovated the computers for the lanes. So it's easier to use and opposers. It also gives you information on the player's stats (I.E. First ball speed and average; current score with max possible score to name a few). Also has great environment for kids to have fun and be kids. read more

My fiancé and I enjoy going to Rockaway Lanes. This review isn't really about the overall bowling alley but the service. Scott, at the main desk is the best! He's so helpful, accommodating and always so nice! I always thought Scott was the owner until he mentioned he wasn't. You would think he was! Great service!! Thank you! The gentleman at the food area is also very very nice! Always quick service. My only complaint would be the bar service. The older gentleman that's always there isn't friendly at all. Came here for NYE and Rockaway Lanes was such a chill spot to spend New Years! My friends and I had a blast! the NYE packages are inexpensive if you have a larger group, included in the package is pizza, fountain drinks/water, NYE party items (hats, noisemakers) plus free glass of champagne at midnight. The bar drinks were made perfectly and are inexpensive. The staff was super friendly and helpful when making accomadations/if we needed anything. I actually didn't mind the un-updated vibe of this bowling alley (aka the computers) it adds to the retro-vibe of the place. I do think some repairs/ TLC could help but overall a great place for some fun with friends! read more

I used to frequent Rockaway Lanes as a child years ago, but I was in my hometown for a wedding this past weekend, and needed a fun way to get out of the house for a few hours. My first thought was a walk...but that's so boring. Then I remembered Rockaway Lanes...perfect! My boyfriend and I went over there on Sunday around 11:30am and had no trouble getting a lane. The bowling alley was pretty much empty except for a family of 7 who were located at the opposite end of the establishment, far away from the lane that we got. We played three games in about 45 minutes and had a ball! Shoe rentals were $2.25 a person, which is incredibly inexpensive compared to the prices we would pay in a Manhattan bowling alley. Each game was also $2.25 a person...incredible! We had a nice hour outside of the house, got a little bit of exercise (yes...you can get exercise bowling, as I learned the next day when my leg and thigh muscles were very sore!), and it didn't break the bank. The Rockaway Lanes are not very modern or updated...it's very old school. But who cares. The balls are good, the pins fall down, and the equipment works. They offer laser light bowling on weekend nights, which sounds really cool. There are bowling leagues for kids and adults...how fun! And they offer $1.00 a game bowling specials on Thursday and Friday from noon until 4pm! A great activity during the summer if you have kids! read more

This place has been around for years. I remember my dad taking me here and now I take my son. I have never had a negative experience here and the staff is always available to help. Pro Shop- I purchased a new ball for my son and needed the holes drilled. The guy who works in the pro shop really knows his business. He took the time with my son trying to get the holes just right. Challenger League- They have a you challenger league which I would highly recommend. The program allows kids with disabilities to interact with each other in an nonjudgmental environment. The staff does an amazing job making sure the kids are having fun and adjust the game for everyone to play. . I would recommend that anyone with a special needs child check out the program My Favorite- Laser Lights on Saturday afternoon. I love bringing my son here for lunch and a few games. They are not too busy and you can normally get a lane as soon as you walk in. My kid loves the chicken fingers and fries so lunch works out well. read more

This is a real old/old style Jersey bowling alley. That's not a bad thing! We decided to go bowling one afternoon after a movie and this was our local alley. It was OK. The automated bowling lanes (I remember when you scored your own game) was quite old as well, probably one of the first automated lanes. Rockaway Lanes refused to accommodate a person with a disability. I have epilepsy and cannot have caffeine. I'm also not allowed to have sugar. I was attending my son's friend's birthday party and brought my own beverage with me. Before I was 10 feet in the door, the woman from the snack bar ambushes me telling me that no outside food or drink are allowed. I explained that I have epilepsy and cannot drink anything they sell besides water. Even after the explanation, they refused to allow me to bring my drink with me. They lost the business of our family and friends over the sale of a soda. I understand the principle. They are in business to make money, but they need to show compassion as well. I was amazed to see how rude the employees were, I went over there to ask for help and a big sigh came out of the mans mouth. Really unprofessional and unwelcoming. Also there's no spacing between lanes for covid we were right on top of another family and when we pulled our mask down to breath he came over and said to put it back on when the family next to us all had theirs off. Place is really fun and great for small events. However, I did not like the attitude of the guy who serves the beer. All my friends are over 21 and I understand importance of giving IDs to be sure but he did it in such a rash tone and aggressiveness that was unwarranted. My family and I wanted to go bowling just before my brother left for school so we came here. This is a retro and pretty old bowling lane. I used to come here when I was in grade school for birthday parties with the pizza and the laser lights, so I have very nostalgic memories of this place. We came with 5 people and took the "Pizza-Pins-Pepsi" deal which is 70 dollars for 2 hours of unlimited bowling, a pan pizza, and a pitcher of soda which isn't that bad. Pretty good deal. The fact that we came there later, the music was on and the people singing was an added plus. The girl working at the front is pretty cute too. Although, I really stink at bowling :/ The lanes were working okay, the machine system seems a bit outdated and the staff seem pretty cool. It's a bowling alley...really, what are you looking for? I've never had a wait. Right now they have a special on Tuesdays. Bowling isn't cheap anymore, but this place is no different than the rest. They have a full bar, but I've only gotten beer. Can't tell you what the drinks are like. The snack bar is pretty decent. Again, my step daughter swears by the Mozzarella sticks and she is somewhat of an expert. Nothing spectacular, but nothing bad. It's a good place. read more

The ABSOLUTE worst place to go for bowling. Wanted to surprise my cousin for her birthday, so we brought 2 balloons. As soon as we walked through the door, they said that we were not authorized to have them and that they didn't approve a birthday party. We then came to the bowling alley with our cousin (who's birthday it was) who happened to have a cup of coffee in her hands. We were told that there were no outside drinks allowed, but in the rudest manner that it could have been told. My cousin (keep in mind it was her birthday) was met with 3 different people all telling her that she needed to throw her drink out. She then proceeded to throw out the drink in the trash can, to which the worker in the food area yelled at her and said "no! Not in my garbage." Would not reccomend this place to anyone. Brought in a water bottle, & the staff flipped out. They were so rude and yelled over me whenever I tried to explain why I needed a water bottle (medical conditions). One staff member made snarky remarks & faces at me while the other called my medical issue "bullsh**t". They told Me to leave because i wouldnt throw it out. The women behind the desk were so unpleasant and disrespectful. They made us feel very uncomfortable and we left a lot sooner then planned. They yelled at a few children simply playing by the desk. There is absolutely no reason she should have raised her voice. She also did several eye rolling. She made an announcement that we did not here ( it's so loud in there) after that she approached the children regarding her request. They are small children.
