Not only does the Desert View Inn have ridiculously good prices, it also has the nicest proprietor in town - Hans! Hans is also president of the Chamber of Commerce and he knows customer service! He is dedicated to making his guests comfortable and happy - even down to bringing around coffee in the morning. The rooms are simple but extremely comfortable. Amenities include free WiFi, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, flat screen TV with satellite, and bath products. There is also a charming outdoor seating area with a large grill for guest use as well as chairs and tables outside of the rooms. The real fun, however, is Penny! Penny is Hans' adorable gentle giant of a dog, who will lovingly greet you at check-in and around the grounds!

We show up anyways and of course nothing but rocks and six foot trees sparsely around us. Even what they show as a Garden on their map that is green, because it's a garden right?, is piles of rocks in circles, I guess if art can be a garden then I guess? The advertisement of a dog run area? Turns out it is the rain water washout area full of gravel and boulders with a sign saying Dog Area. Pick Up After Your pers'. What a joke. But about our spot We paid for, it's what we paid for weeks in advance. It's a desert. Yet six premium pull through spots with 15' - 20' conical trees lining the slips sit empty. Nope We can't use them I guess. Would not move us. So after that we stay for only one full day. Telling them this the day we arrived because of these accommodations. Yet only the snappy words of 'Its our policy to not give refunds because you're not happy.' We leave for greener pastures with this management team keeping $400+ dollars of our unused time. What a joke. This place is full of Full time live ins. It's an rv style trailer park. Not an rv resort. Our 42' Motor Coach stuck out like pudding in a cloud. Skip this rv resort, it is not. And the lake is at 5% capacity. There's no boating to be done. You can do all of TorC in a single day. Really. Just make a day trip of little TorC and drive away. So avoid this resort. I had made the reservations about 3 weeks before. As with the last time I booked, I was very surprised that it wastn closer to sold out already. We have been to a few different hot springs some have been pretty cool, literally. The last one was outside Fairbanks Alaska in the winter. But one thing that is common at these spots is that they are communal pools. There tends to be a creeper now and then. But Riverbend has private pools, facing the Rio Grande. So this time I made note of the temps of each individual pool on the website, and got us the hottest one. It was perfect. It really does have pools that drop off right into the Rio. It was close to dusk and the river was flowing past the long shadows in front of us. The hour of relaxation flew by. It is the best we have been to. I am sorta happy that they arent so known as to be overbooked. Because we will be back again next time we are in the area.

I am a huge fan of soaking in natural hot springs and as a medical professional I know the benefits. Finding the right space is important too. The hot springs aquifer runs under this town and so this camp has 3 spring fed tubs that are available to guests for soaking 24/7. Two are private and a larger one is communal. Guests take turns on a FCFS basis. The camp itself is not big. It's a cozy square courtyard within a privacy wall and they have an eclectic mix of accommodations. There are 6 "stalls" for RVs to back in with full hookups available. It is possible to pitch a tent too. There is a really cool "dome" building and they have a Yurt! They also have three vintage trailers that are awesome and reasonably priced. There are two very nice, clean bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a spring-fed jacuzzi tub. While the neighborhood outside the wall is old and rundown, this camp is a wonderful oasis. Fully gated and secure with no worries here. Out the gate and 5 mins of walking is a great local Taproom and brewery which gets active in the afternoon and evenings. Topping off all this goodness is the camp host, Debra. She is amazing. So friendly and welcoming and focused on making certain all guests are happy and comfortable. If you're coming to TorC, and you love a very relaxing, laidback vibe, this is where you want to stay.

MUST READ‼‼ I came to this place after 0130 in morning after…read moredriving 11 hours. I was exhausted and just wanted to shower and sleep. I get there and ring the doorbell. Out comes a old lady in a robe. Very strange lady at that. She checks me into the room and I pay my 58 bucks. I walk in and I immediately feel dirty, but it wasn't horrible when not looking close up. I get all of my belongings and food from my truck and take a shower. Huge pubic hair on wall. Gross but whatever. They had an outlet in bathroom that they tried to cover with what looked like putty so people wouldn't use it. Huge safety hazard. Whatever..... I'm tired. Shower was not too bad minus the gross hair. As I pull the blankets down I see several small roaches scatter. I couldn't believe it. This was only pulling comforter down. The sheets were still pulled up. I had to do it people, I pulled the sheets down and boom! I took pictures as you will see. I called the office. Old lady comes in and demands I show her where the roaches are. Of course they ran away, but I had the pictures! I show her and she says that that is not the hotels comforter!!!! Really? It matches my picture wth?!?! So then I show her the blood spots and dead bugs smashed in the sheets. She had nothing to say so she just walks out of the room and went back into the office. By now it is after 0230 in morning. As she walked out of the room she stated exactly this " You did what you wanted here and now you want to leave because you just wanted to shower." I'm left there standing like what do I do now? I pack my stuff up and load my truck. I go to office and ring bell..... then I ring bell again..... really? Oh wait, here she comes and she has her old man with her!!!! She opens the door and the husband lays into me. He yells " I don't know what kind of games your playing little girl but you need to leave now" he then states I planted the roaches in the bed all for a free shower at 0130 in the morning! I'm traveling from Colorado to Mississippi as travel nurse. I tell this to these two crazy people. They called me mean, they told me get out, I'm a liar, blah blah. Needless to say, I finally got my refund when they knew they weren't going to push me around. It was horrible. I ended up sleeping in my car at a rest stop. Put myself in danger. What a joke. Please stay away, especially those with kids. It's disgusting. I'll post if I don't end up with my refund.
