I loved the presentation of the donuts! The display case was empty of apple fritters. However, I asked if they had any in back, and to my delight, they had some! It was still warm when I got it. It was filled with massive apple chunks. Definitely one of the best fritters I've ever had. It was so thick too! The banana pudding Bismarck was disappointing. The pudding tasted store bought. I wasn't a fan of it. Also, I noticed that their filled doughnuts are cut in half, then the filling is sandwiched between the two donut halves. I have never seen something like that before. Also, the Nilla Wafer cookie pieces were soggy. I know this is to be expected, but I didn't think they'd be that soggy. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this donut shop has the Holland Cream, which is the white cream filling. So many places don't have this. Unfortunately, I was unimpressed with this filling. I felt like it was lacking sweetness. To end on a positive note, I enjoyed the actual donuts. The fillings just need some work. I'd go back again & get more fritters! We love all of their bakery items. Our favorites are jelly filled Bismarck's and Holland cream Bismarck's. They have the BEST glazed donuts . The staff is always friendly. On many occasions when they didn't have a white frosted jelly filled Bismarck they would frost one the way I like it!! read more

The Bavarian cream is amazing, the strawberry cheesecake also delicious- but the simple cake donut will be what I go back for- perfect coffee donut! Finally, an actual bakery in Waterloo, IA!!! This bakery is across from the famous Bryans on 4th and Volks Haus. If you love Rockets formally known as LPC Bakery in La Porte City then you will LOVE this place. When my husband and I ventured out to Rockets on a early Sunday morning, it was packed with almost 10 groups ahead of us in line!! As we were eagerly anticipating a doughnut, we noticed the gals at the counter were continuously replacing the empty trays with new bakery items. It was a definite reassurance that their products are made fresh and in house. I even got to peak in the back kitchen to see they were glazing their cinnamon rolls. Watching them glaze the cinnamon rolls and putting them out in front of me while I was in the middle of ordering was great persuasion. We bought glazed doughnuts, a cinnamon roll, a peanut butter and jelly doughnut, a cinnamon sugar and a cinnamon twist. They were so warm, soft, and fluffy when we purchased them. I have had a hard time finding a bakery around here that actually sells FRESH cinnamon rolls [A STAPLE]! It is safe to say Rockets is a must-try in Waterloo, IA. And for the curious, yes the peanut butter and jelly doughnut is a 10 out of 10. read more

Check out this new bakery in town! It's located right on the corner, just a few places down from Morg's. In fact, it's owned by the same family! We came downtown to go to Morg's for breakfast, and we popped over for dessert breakfast at Rockets. The place was full of people and the donuts were brimming behind the case. There were donuts with cereal, chips, peanut butter--you name it! I'm a sucker for a delicious, plain glazed donut, and my husband got a cherry cheesecake donut. We ate them a few hours later (too stuffed from Morg's), and they were perfectly delicious. They weren't greasy or gross at all, but light and fluffy still. The frosting was perfect and hadn't melted. I love me a good glazed donut! My husband devoured his cherry cheesecake donut. It was like a sandwich with cheesecake and cherries in the middle. Honestly, I think I might try one of those next time! And yes, there will definitely be a next time. read more

Whenever I find out that there is a new bakery near I just have to try it. This bakery is located in downtown Waterloo on the corner of Mulberry and 4th st. The kitchen is huge and you are welcome to look into it from the outside while the seating area is quite small. Only 2 tables and 6 chairs exist but many benches with a hot pipe that in between with a note on it. I ordered two bowties, 1 chocolate chip cookie and 1 oatmeal raisin cookie all for less than $9. The bowties are about 12 inches long and 3-4 inches wide. They remind me greatly of PB knots with less peanut butter and more chocolate which is only on top of the bowtie. Soft and delicious. The chocolate chip cookie was interesting, containing milk, semisweet, and white chocolate chips was really good, but there was absolutely way too much flour used all I could taste was flour and chocolate, too much flour. But the oatmeal raisin cookie was a dream! I loved all the spices that were mixed in to these cookies. And even though I went in less than an hour before closing there was still plenty of pastries left! read more

First of all, please note that they open at 7:00, not 6:00. So, when I showed up at 6:10 I was terribly disappointed to learn I was too early. HOWEVER, they kindly offered to help get me on my way with a dozen assorted donuts and a couple of things for the road. They were busily making the day's goodies and were ALL wearing masks, as was visible through the window of their work area. The pastries offered are good, but it's not a full line bakery like we had in Johnson's or LPC Bakery, yet. I hope they one day can add more variety of pastries. It seems to be one of these fad donut shops with gobs of frosting and too many sprinkles. As cupcakes seem to be fading, donuts have picked up that market. I still want more old fashioned bakeries and this isn't filling my needs. I hope they can expand and move to a better, bigger location. The lobby is poorly thought out and the workroom looks like a mess & should not have to be seen by customers and the public from outdoors! Parking is terrible! read more

We stopped by for a breakfast treat to go and loved the pasteriesand doughnuts. The pasteries were delicious and the fillings weren't overpowering. Same for the doughnuts, the dough was delicious with kust the right amount of toppings. The Bismarks were out if this world as well. There is no denying that the donuts are amazing...but the friendly service that was present at opening has quickly deteriorated. The last time I visited I was treated so rudely that I'm hesitant to return. I think the biggest problem is the disorganized product case. Almost every donut is decorated differently but are all mixed together. Trying to figure out what each is and which you want slows the ordering process and clearly stresses the staff. I wish they would just make more uniform donuts and have better signage. HyVee makes a wide variety of donuts but organizes their case to make ordering easier. read more

THE BEST DONUTS EVER. I would consider myself a donut enthusiast. I love a high quality, fresh donut probably way more than I should so I've tried a lot of them. When Johnson's bakery closed down a few years ago it left a donut void in my heart that I didn't think could be filled- that is until Rockets added a Waterloo location! Staff is always cheery and helpful but also quick. There is often a line here but they get through it quickly without making the experience rushed. My absolute favorite donut is the cherry cheesecake which isn't always available but if you like rich, sweet treats definitely give this flavor a try. The apple fritters are incredible and about as big as your head so definitely great for sharing. I've tried their cookies a couple of times and can truly say that nothing here has let me down. Only ever so slight negative is that the store itself is pretty tiny...my solution to this is take your donut outside if weather permits, or better yet get several to go and make your coworkers' day! read more
