I'm still at ROCKHARBOR and would recommend this community for anyone looking for a church home. Worship has continued to lead me into an encounter with God. The rotating teaching team has continued to point me to Jesus. Since my original post my family has grown to include a 2 year old son and the Family Ministry program at this church has been amazing, including not only the leaders, but the many faithful volunteers who care for my son each weekend. We also bring him into the closing worship set and he now sings some of the songs on his own around our home throughout the week. Disabled volunteers are fired 2025-2026. This is about one. She has been attending church here for over 10 years. She loves Jesus and became a more passionate young lady 5 years ago when she was asked if she would like to volunteer at evening Sunday services. Kind, genuine people see that. 5 staff members harassed her, then fired her, plus gave her a cruel label. She has a physical and cognitive disability. She cannot drive so has always taken Lyft there and back and she lives much farther away. She has many friends there, some who have stopped going to RHC because of the harassment she endured before they told her to not come to Sunday night services. But this IS otherwise an amazing, welcoming church with pastors who are deep, reflective, engaging, compassionate and are full of God's grace and love. She has learned a valuable lesson and moved on to churches who welcome her volunteering and attending. My review is only for those staff members who discriminate explicitly the disabled adults volunteering. read more

I've been attending rock harbor for about two years on and off and everytime I attend it's like coming home. The worship is excellent and spiritually led, the sermons are short and impactful, and the community is a breath of fresh air. If you need something, get prayer! They have resources and talking to another human never fails to help. They are very Pentecostal, which can take a bit to get acclimated to tbt! read more

Rockharbor is home. The bible is taught in a way that is convicting and still gravitating

Good amount of parking inside. Entry is great coming in with the decor. Wish the ushers can be bit more welcoming & other too. Very long worship as shouldn't take more than 30 minutes usually. Got coffee, water, fruit, & donuts provided. Preaching was average overall plus the service alone. Can use more bible verses. At least, they offer prayer after if needed to go up one of them. Just a balance should be improved despite nice seating for back patio & near worship doors. read more

Been going here for 17 years. It used to be great and i would rate it 5 stars but in the last 14 months it has gone downhill. it lost all of its " Je ne sais quoi" with the remodel. The worship music is "flat/no energy" anymore since they hired the english people. Pictures they post and people interviewed on videos are always the same people, who work there or are family of someone who does. Everything is about money now. Last Sunday they mentioned money 5 times before they even started teaching. They have ASL interpreters at 11:15 service read more

This church is ok.  Some people there are genuinely friendly.  I did not connect with most of their sermons. Their preaching is not strong, so they really need to improve on that. Pastor Josh is the best pastor there who preaches with a lot of passion though.  Their preaching overall is not very good.  Also, they sometimes have young pastors my age in their 20's or 30's, (who are like pastors in training), get up on stage to preach about things that have no meaning or relevance to the bible at all.  It is ridiculous.  Another thing is, they continuously believe, sing, and preach about "the reckless love of GOD".  GOD is always perfect in every way.  Nothing about GOD is reckless.  GOD's love is always enduring, limitless, patient, and perfect (PSALM 107:1). How could anybody think or speak of GOD, or anything about HIM, as being imperfect or reckless???  That is absurd.  Humans should not compare themselves to GOD. It is so disrespectful, degrading, and wrong, to think or speak of GOD that way.  Nowhere in the bible is GOD described in such a negative way.  "Reckless", is not praising GOD in any way.  GOD should always be praised in every way.  They really need to open up their eyes and see that soon. "Relentless" and "Reckless", have completely different definitions.  Read the book of psalms in the bible.  GOD is always praised so highly in the bible as HE should be (PSALM 117:1). Regardless of whether it is in the bible or not, it is senseless to think of GOD or anything about HIM as being imperfect or reckless.  Humans are imperfect.  GOD is GOD.  Nothing about GOD is imperfect.  Do not compare yourselves to GOD. GOD's ways, thoughts, and actions are always higher than those of humans, and humans cannot understand them (ISAIAH 55:8-9). GOD will always be GOD forever! (PSALM 107:1, PSALM 117:1, ISAIAH 55:8-9) read more

My family and I have been coming here for over 3 years. The church is great and we've gotten plugged into a really awesome life group. The worship and teaching here are awesome. Very biblically grounded and spirit-led worship. The senior pastor recently stepped down and the church has seemed a bit unorganized since then. All-in-all it's a great church. I'd love to see improvements in organization and communication. I wish I knew how I could help! read more

I visited this place about 5 times when I was trying to find a church. The main reason why I could not commit to going here was that it is not theologically sound. They are "word faith" doctrinally or health and wealth. I think they appeal to the under 30 crowd due to the really loud music. I visited as a 20 something and this didn't impress me.. it was a turn off. Way too loud. During the service half the people weren't paying attention. To me this place is more like a hangout and lacks solid biblical preaching. I got the impression people could be attending there and not be Christian. read more

I have only been to this church once and already felt excited and interested. I just signed up for Alpha and they gave you a free meal like the equivalent of Olive Garden!!! I was not sure at first because I am Latina and thought it was going to be Orange County vibes only, but I saw every race and gender. Also the people were welcoming and the Pastors speak straight from God's Word. It was so powerful I cried and growing up as a broken person in a rough neighborhood this church is helping me heal. I come about 1 hour away just to be at this church. Were hear to hear God's Word, not our version of the truth. To the pastor who talked about how being gay is a sin.... I didn't know why at first, but I was shaking with anger when I listened to your sermon... and I'm not even gay. I get that you were just translating the bible. And you have the right to your own views. However, after that night, I just stopped going to church for over a month. After some contemplation, I think I know why it angered me so much, and I hope you can empathize. I'm going to summarize your sermon and replace "gay" with "Asian" because a gay person would identify him/herself just as much as I identify as being Asian. "I don't want this to be a political battle. I don't want anyone to stop going to church because of this or have anyone on the other side support this church only because of this. Being Asian is a sin. Just as a surgeon hates cancer because he loves his patient, God hates Asianness BECAUSE he loves us. I mean, I do believe that these people are born with this sinful temptation. They are born this way and must battle this all their lives. Even the monogamous Asian living is a sin. So the solution for these people who are born Asian is to just be... alone. So, that is why we need to be extra sensitive and empathetic when we share this news to our Asian friends and family." Yeah... If I were gay, I wouldn't feel safe at your church. I get that you need to preach the bible verbatim, but you forgot the point of church is to connect people with God (not scare/piss them off). The sermon was so focused on being politically correct, it forgot how an actual gay person would feel after listening to this (especially one who is trying church out for the first time). If you have kids and can't show up 15 minutes early, don't bother. This is the first time we've been turned away because the children's ministry is full. Definitely will not be coming back. I've been in churches since I was little and I have never felt so unwelcome. A few weeks ago, we visited and while no one talked to us or greeted us, the children's ministry seemed to be top notch, so we thought we'd come back. Little did we know that we were so wrong. The worship is massively overproduced and feels more like a concert than a worship experience, with little of the congregation singing along. After the message worship improved though. The teaching was good, but the multi-campus model combined with the search for a "lead pastor" were slightly concerning, but we were willing to deal with that based on the fact that there appeared to be a well developed children's ministry. You can really rate churches on yelp???... wow.. that can't be dangerous b/c beliefs are so dangerous and so often hypocrisy is rampant with its churchgoers. I'm jaded and reluctant to go back to rock harbor because of church politics that don't I feel reflect Christianity or what JC would have taught or preached (darn real world). After they kicked this pastor named Keith out way back when... I've visited a few times for kicks. I don't wholeheartedly believe in Christianity b/c it doesn't reflect JC but Christian based churches do a lot of great things for others and the community so that does in fact ROCK!! I thought the foundation of Christianity reflected forgiveness and that every does fall short and is a sinner. If someone falls down I think Christian churches should support them, & not condemn them?? maybe I'm wrong. But ya.. then you got politics and the real world... blah.. I get a lot more answers and insight from mediation but rock harbor does have a great community of great people and insight from Pastor Mike!! A great church to go to if you want to sing and praise JC and get some interesting insight. I have self-diagnosed ADD and would often keep looking at the clock to see when service would be let out. A lot of nice eye candy so that is a big plus for the singles out there!! This church has a great young vibe... a lot of young people that go or went to Vanguard U. This church played a part in forming my foundation for my spiritual growth and maturity, a stepping stone on my path to where I'm at now. Hopefully I'll keep spiritually growing. Mediation and Eastern thought has helped me grow spiritually by leaps and bounds! Currently I consider JC my guru so maybe I'll go back soon for some new insight! read more

Pastor Mike makes driving out to Costa Mesa worth the trip, even last night at the 9pm service when some folks were disappointed that the guest pastor didn't show and we watched a video of Pastor Mike instead, I was so excited-- he is the most effective pastor here. The building at 345 Fischer is beautiful, and constantly updated and changed by its very involved, mostly 20-something congregation. Every few weeks, it seems the weekly newsletter is asking people to help redesign the church-- no experience necessary! There are four celebration services every Sunday-- 9 am, 11 am, 7 pm, and 9 pm, and at each service there are usually about 1000 visitors, all coming together to worship. As a new Christian, I have been looking for a church that speaks to me, outside of Catholicism. I enjoy the structure of Catholicism, but I need something more contemporary, that speaks to the issues I am dealing with. In this regard, Rock Harbor is incredibly effective. Compared to a Catholic church, though, there is much less structure, very minimal focus on actual Scripture, and the songs drag on. In an almost 2-hour service, over half of it is song-- contemporary Christian rock type stuff. I personally don't worship through song, especially not through rock songs, so sitting through this much of it every Sunday is becoming a little taxing for me, although it's very clear that there is a place for it among the congregation, which gets up and sings their hearts out every Sunday as if it were their job. Every week, it seems as through the pastors will reference a MAXIMUM of two Biblical verses, which seems lacking to me. I don't connect with the material so much as I connect with the pastors' heartwarming stories about their lives. They are inspiring, yes, but they don't help me feel closer to the Lord. The services here are illuminating, but I don't feel as though I LEARN much through them. They are fun to go to every week, but I rarely leave church with a new outlook on the Bible or God or Jesus. This is the church equivalent of Chinese food-- it fills you up at first, but in only a few hours you'll be wanting more. Another downside is that there are too many hip kids all dressed up to pick up cute boys/girls at church-- wrong place to do it, I think. But as I become more involved here (IF I do), I may find myself finding friends among these people. All in all, this has been a great church to help me discover God, but I think I'll be going elsewhere for further enrichment. read more

I gave Rock Harbor 3 stars because in my head it is the only fair way to rate a church--to put them on an average scale. From my experience, I have been to many churches and have definitely been "church shopping" during my college years in order to find the right church that fit me for the time being. Rock Harbor was one of them and to be truthful, it is definitely a church that you all will catch yourself judging it by it's cover. I can't really speak for the sermons, worship services, and other details about the church since it doesn't feel right for me to via Yelp, but I do encourage anyone who is looking for a church in the Orange County to come check Rock Harbor out. In addition, if you are a high school student, college student, or young adult, I highly recommend checking into their evening services at 7 & 9 PM. Absolutely love everything about this church! I love how there are different times which is really convenient. I love the worship team! They are truly blessed with beautiful voices and musically talented! The pastors keep their messages very interesting and to the point which is awesome! I always thought there should be a day full of singing and worshiping God and my wish came true when I started attending Rock Harbor. They have third Wednesday which is the third Wednesday of every month to worship and pray! And it's just absolutely amazing and you can just feel the love of God in the room! read more

Rock Harbor Fullerton campus recently opened up and they have services on Sunday nights at 7 and 9 pm. It's a great place for young people to go. The pastor here is no more than 30 so he really appeals to the younger crowd. It's a great place to go if you are young and you live near Fullerton and Costa Mesa is too far to drive. Get there early. Doors open at 6:45 and the place fills up! read more

I feel so saddened to anyone who did not have a good experience here. I simply cannot understand that because from day one,everyone has been so kind and welcoming! Seriously, these pastors love Jesus so much and are humble! They do not sugar coat yet are so loving! They strive to be like JESUS and the worship is an amazing worship session where everyone is praising and loving JESUS! We mostly went to RHMV which we love so so much! We moved since then and miss RH so incredibly much! There is such great community! Get involved, go serve and get into a life group! Best decision we made, (besides following Jesus)! I can't speak great enough about this church! Also if you ever have any questions or maybe you are confused by a sermon they gave, the pastors are more then willing to go to coffee with you, to talk and answer any questions you have! I have never been to a church that is so healthy and so Spirit lead. Both someone from a conservative Christian background and some from a liberal background can find a home here at RockHarbor, which strives for a radical middle. Worship is amazing, the preaching is spectacular, and the church offers so many things for its congregation - classes, life groups, concerts, devotionals, etc. The Costa Mesa campus is large, which can be deterring for some people, but a church is large because it is growing. This is a good sign. The church gets smaller if one makes an effort to get involved. Immediately after I started attending more weekly events, I started knowing more people and feeling more welcomed. Family is intentional and needs to be done by both the church and the individual. I have been here for a year and have never been happier. read more

Another multi-star review here for Rock Harbor. Starting to get the picture? If not, picture this: A "tonsorially challenged" guy named Mike, looking for all the world like a linebacker refugee from tutelage of Woody Hayes (he wishes!), is perspiring profusely, and rummaging through the Bible like he personally knows the guy it's about (he does) and all the while he's speaking directly to your soul. You're surrounded by 4000 others who, if you met elsewhere, you would not expect to see any of one them at "church". Everyone is taking it in: laughing, listening intently, and simultaneously referencing pages in the "Yellow" (free Bibles that are passed out to the assembled). No collection plates, no missions needing your "financial support", no grandiose edifices masquerading as "building programs"; just a great message and great community. Somewhere, someone is drawing a fish in the sand. Rock Harbor is aptly named. Erre's brilliant messages rock your heart and mind. They'll make you think and feel, and hunger for more. Now that's The Gospel delivered the way it's supposed to be! The environs and the "celebration" services are the predictable, standard "postmodern church" fare (Lionel Cartwright's music celebration @ Bellevue Community remains the best available)... and if that's to your taste, so much the better. I totally agree with Erik J. This place is awesome! The music is grrreat! The teaching pastor, Mike Erre is phenomenal! The atmosphere is warm. Plus I have to admit that the decor is also very attractive (I know, that shouldn't matter, but I do like it) What I like best about Rock Harbor is that they don't mess around... they get down to the nitty gritty and talk about what counts. While they do convey the fullness of the gospel (Jesus loves you so much that he died a horrific death to give you an opp to go to heaven) they also speak about real life issues... I used to go to an uber conservative church, so when I walked in to RH and heard Mike Erre talk about how he used to struggle with pornography and now takes measure so that he won't fall back into that, I was taken back! It was weird to hear a pastor talk about his shortcomings like that, yet so refreshing to see a man in leadership be so transparent yunno... not fakey fakey. And not only do you talk about real life issues, but you are given a way to work through them... how to deal. I would totally go there is it were just a little bit smaller. RH is by no means HUGE like Saddleback or Mariners, but they are a pretty large church. I like small, yunno, where everybody knows your name ... hey! Like Cheers! If you are looking for a church or even if you are just curious about God, I would totally recommend going here. I found this church on Yelp of all places...high stars and a decent amount of reviews for church, so I decided to swing by one day. Ever since that first visit, I was hooked. From the very start of you walking through those front doors you are instantly greeted by a dozen smiling people including the pastor (for that service). They fill their main service room to capacity on Sundays while their Saturday services bring a group in smaller more mixed age group. Predominantly a young church on fire for the Lord through worship, praise and service. read more

We'll miss you Pastor Mike! Today was an emotional service as this was the last teaching service that Pastor Mike Erre was going to do. I've visited many other churches in the area, but Rock Harbor really brings me closer to Christ every Sunday morning. Is it the worship? Is it the preaching? No, it's Christ. Christ has really blessed Rock Harbor. I used to go to RH when they first opened up their facility as a Mariners church plant. The people in leadership are genuine people who really love Jesus. They really want to impact Orange County too! As Pastor Mike puts it, this church, "grows up people and sends out people." He is doing the same. God is calling him out of RH ministry and bringing him somewhere new. I am hopeful of the things that God will do with RH when Pastor Mike is gone. Yes we will miss him, but I have to keep reminding myself that churches do not survive because of human leadership and human minds.....churches grow and change the community through Jesus Christ himself. So though I am sad that Pastor Mike will be leaving (since his preaching was challenging and on par with what Orange County people need to hear....) I am excited to see what God has in store for Rock Harbor next. read more

My review is only on conferences that I attend here. Not the actual church services. RH is always so welcoming and all staff are so sweet and friendly. Makes you feel really at home. Kit and Michelle are just darling, I love being around them. Both conferences I have gone to at Rock Harbor have been off the hook! Worshiping mid week at #tg13 was the most moving experience ever. The RH band gave me chills. The middle schoolers who came blew my mind. RH is lucky to have such talented folks. All the videos that the RH staff made were so high tech, you would think it was Hollywood. I feel blessed and so lucky to be apart of any conference put on by RH. They get under your skin in the most amazing way. The location is cramped with non existent parking spots and once you have one, stay there! Church is a huge warehouse that is decorated so well, you wouldn't even know the difference. Kids classes are gorgeous and spacious. RH really makes your kids feel at home with the space they designed from the wall color to the stage to the prayer experience corners. RH provides a million different snacks at the conferences; healthy to not so healthy and they never run out! I love the coffee bar and the iced tea. Overall, this is a church to come experience for service and worship or another conference they may have. Def worth checking out! read more

It seems odd to rate a church, but here are my thoughts on Rock Harbor: Who doesn't love Mike Errie?! You just want this guy to be your best friend, and he has a special way of connecting with people and getting the message across in a practical way. He was my college pastor at Mariner's and even though he's now the pastor of Rock Harbor he's still a funny, down to earth guy. If you want to attend a morning service plan to arrive very early for parking and a seat in the main sanctuary. Otherwise you'll be in "overflow" watching the sermon screen. I'm always pissed off when I end up in overflow- I could've saved time & money driving to Costa Mesa and just watched Charles Stanley on TV in my PJs :) As overcrowded as Rock Harbor is we always run into friends or someone familiar, which is nice. But I have a hard time inviting people to come to church with me or meet me there since it's so packed. They have so many ministries and encourage everyone to be in a Life Group. They're starting ministry in Long Beach which is exciting, maybe we won't have to drive to Costa Mesa anymore. We attended the Premarital Seminar which I recommend to anyone seriously dating or engaged. I also encourage you to get involved in their GO campaigns and missions (you can do things locally in Costa Mesa, Long Beach, Orange, Watts...). I fell in love with this place the second I stepped foot into the main entrance! The people are within my age group, the music is my style and it's rockin' loud, the sermon was touching and meaningful about God and his guidance without being preachy, the whole place is beautiful and modern, I'm just in awe that it took me so long to find this church. Its hard to find authentic community in our busy rush of SoCal lives. I so appreciate being part of a community at RockHarbor, filled with imperfect people doing life together in different ways with different interests and making space to have real conversations about things that matter. Alpha is one of the courses in the fabric if RickHarbor that is a great place to explore faith, ask questions and meet new friends. No church will ever be perfect, because we the messy real people are running them. But thats even more reason to come into community and into a place where we experience and focus on How much God loves us, regardless of where we are at. Theres always room for one more friend, and we are lucky in the oc to have a lot of great churches - so whether its RockHarbor or another- go, get involved, be real, and be loved. read more

This church, if you attend, will probably be different from what you're expecting or have experienced. To me, it seems the church is based around response to the message. After the message, your response through worship takes many forms: music, singing, praying, giving, communion etc. I like this structure--because although there is some structure, there is still individual freedom. If you go, hopefully Mike is speaking. I have heard many others speak at Rock Harbor, but no one compares...and others tend to be boring/less engaging. Rock Harbor does a few things that make it four stars instead of five...some of interpretive dancing they do is a little strange, and announcements I can always do without. read more
