The person who did the work also walked me through design and material options. I originally wanted a Doric-style column, but they recommended a rectangular column using a durable PVC-type material (used for piping) and even reduced the price. I was hesitant, but it turned out to be the right call. They completed the job in one day and the house looks noticeably upgraded. Afterward, I noticed some movement in the railing slats. They explained it's normal since the railing is custom fabricated on site (not one solid piece), and similar to others in the neighborhood. Still, they came back out and glued them at no charge, and now everything feels solid. The finished look is beautiful--neighbors have already asked for referrals. OH BOY, STUCCO BOY!…read more I met with Jereme (the owner of Stucco Boy/Builder Boy) to discuss an exterior refinishing project. We've got some TEX-COTE that the prior owners added that is failing and in need of repair. To their credit, Jereme is knowledgeable about TEX-COTE and the company even has a landing page on their website describing how to fix a failing application. They offer services to repair and re-apply, and Jereme mentioned this would be an option for us, in addition to a more involved re-plastering. Jereme said he'd break out different options for us. Despite Jereme's demeanor coming off a bit slick and salesy, them being a local company with experience with TEX-COTE gave me some confidence. I received a proposal that I felt was reasonably priced. Before selecting the company for my project, I had some follow-up questions I asked the office staff via email regarding coordinating the project with other work being done-namely a re-roof project that I'd be undertaking. After a little back-and-forth, Jereme called me directly. I was able to ask my questions about coordination with the roofing company, and he put my mind at ease. He described how the roofing company would handle tear-off and paper the roof, and then Stucco Boy would come in and water blast and prep. He was pretty specific about his recommendations and that fully addressed my questions. He said that I'd be able to put them into contact with the roofer to work out the specifics and "when roofing companies hear that, they are relieved"-indicating to me that there'd be a proactive direct coordination that would help streamline the process. WONDERFUL! After receiving HOA approval for the project, I reached out to Builder Boy and said I'd like to proceed with them. I followed up with a few questions including one about timing and order of operations to coordinate with the roofing and solar to take place (roughly, at this point) in January. The responses I got from the office staff to my questions were different than what Jereme had indicated; instead of coordinating with the roofers, they said that it would be better for them to do their work after the roofers had completed. There was some back-and-forth where I tried to reconcile the differences in the office staff's answers/recommendations of doing work after everything else was done and what Jereme had indicated to me on our earlier phone call. Two days after not hearing anything back, I received a phone call from Jereme. He indicated to me that he'd heard from his team that I was "frustrated" and that I had taken an "aggressive tone" with his staff and he hoped to understand my frustration but also see if there was a path forward. He indicated that he cares about his staff; the implication he was stepping in to shield them from unfair treatment. I told him that I was confused, and asked if he'd read the emails-my hope was to ensure we were on the same page about what my issue actually was and for me to understand what about my correspondence was "aggressive." He replied he'd "skimmed" the email-so I asked him if I'd be able to read it to him--much of my confusion stemmed from what the office staff was suggesting and how it was much different than what Jereme had indicated regarding coordinating steps with the roofing company. He responded "I get it, you're a good guy" as if my primary intent in reading him the email to was somehow clear my name, and he followed up with "I'd rather not live in the past and instead just move forward." Wait, seriously?! You imply I'm mistreating your staff, you're only vaguely aware of what my issue actually is and when I attempt to talk in specific terms about either of those things you suddenly want to "move forward"? I tried to explain to Jereme the disconnect, and how the staff's recommendation wasn't what he and I had discussed earlier, so I was confused. He said "it can be done either way" and "it's up to the customer"- but kept insisting that his staff was correct in their suggestion without acknowledging it was different than what he himself earlier had suggested, and that was the source of my confusion. The whole time it felt like Jereme was trying to gaslight me, and whenever I tried to be specific about our conversation or clarify what my issue actually was, he'd deflect and say dismissively "it's up to you; just tell us when to show up and we'll be there." I was pretty floored at this point and couldn't shake the feeling that I was getting hustled by this guy. I knew that as he kept insisting he wanted to "move forward" without actually talking about the nature of the problem, it was a sign that this wasn't the kind of company, and Jereme the kind of person, I could trust. So I calmly told him that it was clear to me it wouldn't be a good fit, he said "OK," and that was the extent of my experience with Builder Boy. Ken helped guide us through setting up a master plan, understanding what both our short-term and long-term goals were. From there, he was able to design a plan that sequenced things perfectly, so could take advantage of all open walls/construction. Ken also presented us a number of options for the new space, which was very productive, and ultimately we selected a plan that was an evolution of the idea my wife & I had. Ken is a collaborative architect who has a great eye for homes. The construction process was the easiest I've ever seen. Despite having to demolish an entire exterior wall, there was virtually no dust outside of the construction area. The team built a full ceiling-to-floor plastic guard to keep our kitchen and living room livable. All of the workers were exceeding polite, and left no sharp objects around (due to the fact that we have little kids). We finished on-time and on budget. Not only did we have a great experience with TKR, we also recommended TKR to other friends who have now had similar experiences. Highly recommend them - the quality was excellent.

I sent him an email to tell him this news. I told him the woman he called my partner was my wife and that she should be included in all correspondence. I provided him with the proper spelling of both of our names and added her to the email chain. He replies and not only does he spell my name wrong, he does not include my wife by replying all. I bring my disappointment/frustration about this to his attention by emailing that I expect strict attention to detail for a $100k job that will tear our home apart. Replying all and spelling names correctly really should not be difficult. Next thing I know, he sends me an email (again, my wife not included) telling me that he spoke to his architect and they were too busy to do our job for the "foreseeable future". This was a lie. He didn't like my "nasty tone" and lied about the architect to get out of the job. Can you imagine? He can't spell a simple name correctly and has never heard of the reply all button and I am the problem??? When I called him out for being inept and homophobic suddenly it was all "I have done lots of work for gay people" as it is inevitable in my city. Bottom line...this man could not stand to be called out on his BS, lied and then pulled the "I know tons of gays" card. I was not nasty, I was direct. And as he saw me as beneath him as a woman/lesbian. Of course I was "nasty". Total piece of work. BEWARE!

I just want people to be aware of the poor communication & customer service Baum Construction…read morepresented. It was a nightmare for at least a year, but it was finally over with Court Judgement of $0 on a civil matter he filled AGAINST US in small claims. This is how Mr. Baum works. He gave us a book he wrote about contractors, and he then convinced us to sign an architectural design agreement for $8000. with a Deposit of $2000. up-front. Our verbal agreement with him was that our remodel was to be done in 5 months due to out of country guests coming. After 5 weeks of nothing happening with our project Mr. Baum came over to tell us we had to postpone our remodel and not start till the following year. Keep in mind he did absolutely nothing on our project and had our deposit of $2000. With feeling uncomfortable with him and his short temper flaring, we terminated his services. He then requested the balance of $6000 in which we questioned him as to why we would owe him that. His answer was," well you signed a contract ". It was Mr. Baum that breached the contract. He then proceeded to have his lawyer send us a Demand letters plus Legal Fees. He then proceeded to File a lien on my property. Later on, Mr. Baum file civil matter in small claims court for the balance against us. He wanted it all !! Justice Prevailed in court: $0 Judgment and Removal of lien from my property. We truly feel that this is how he operates (for extra money) because there are other similar reviews written on Mr. Baum (Baum Construction) Beware!!

I moved forward with Builder Boy and worked with Beril (project manager), she was communicative and easy to work with, this was my first ever remodel so I had a ton of question's and was stressed about the process because I didn't know what to expect, Beril put me at ease and made the process so much better! I had Builder Boy come to my house and re-stucco. They did a fantastic job…read more They were very professional very quick, clean etc. I had some major termite issues on exterior wood, which they replaced and it looks great! The painting of the wood sections was done very well. I also had them install a new front door which they did a very nice job with. The only minor issue is the final walk-through. I had a couple small requests regarding removing some cables that were hanging down the side of the house and finishing a threshold on the front door. They finished the threshold, but that was it. One of the five or six last step items I requested. Overall though, they did an excellent job. I highly recommend Builder Boy!
