Do not use this bank. I have gone through RMCU for 11 years and finally closed my accounts. After dealing with the incredibly rude branch manager, Shelly, in Belgrade due to the bank's faulty fraud system flagging on my card, leaving me unable to access my funds for two days, I decided I had finally had enough. Traveling out of state is a nightmare. They will restrict your debit card once you cross state lines. I had to resort to racking up my credit card because I could not access my bank account when out of state. If you buy online at an out of state store, they will flag it for fraud and restrict your accounts. If you try to deposit a check by mobile deposit, it says $2500 maximum, but you can really only deposit $1500, then they'll put it on a 3 day hold. They'll hold deposits on anything over $500 and it's incredibly inconvenient and frustrating. I changed my maiden name (in person at RMCU in Belgrade) to my married name last June in 2024 and just went in last week (Dec 2025) to have them tell me I never updated my information, then tried to blame their brand new system they had only recently started using. When closing my accounts, they shorted me $30, then didn't close my accounts. I didn't even bother telling them they shorted me as I was so relieved to finally be done with RMCU. But, I had to call two weeks later to have them closed because they failed to follow through, even though all paperwork was signed two weeks prior. The last branch manager (Shelly) in Belgrade, who has since left, was so incredibly rude and unprofessional I requested an apology letter and restricted her from accessing my accounts. If you want to feel secure in a financial institution, DO NOT USE RMCU. I cannot stress this enough. First Security Bank and has been the most incredible experience. They have had wonderful customer service from day one, incredible loan officers, 100% professional and FOLLOW THROUGH on everything with clear communication. I have never once worried any transactions will be put on an unnecessary multiple day hold or not having access to my accounts. Highly, HIGHLY, recommend First Security Bank. read more

I have been a customer of RMCU for over 20 years. Have utilized every service they offer except for the home loan. However, I've noticed a decline in their customer service. I recently paid off my car loan with them and have been waiting for the tittle to be sent to me. A month went by and no tittle so I called to inquire about it. The person answering the phone stated I had to contact the DMV because the credit union already submitted my paperwork to them. I said okay, thanks. The DMV in the state to which the vehicle is registered stated I needed to contact the credit union because it will come from them so I did. I called the credit union again almost a month after my first call and the person who answered the phone name is Becky had a very rude and almost like don't bother me attitude. She stated the folks from the loan department mailed me my title back in September, no notice of sending me this very important document was sent to me, or anything on their end. Needless to say I have not received my tittle. When I explained this to Becky her attitude again was like go kick rocks pretty much very carelessly she said, you will have to file a request with your DMV for a lost tittle. Unknown to Becky filing any paperwork with the DMV is a nightmare. I hope the next person who pays off a vehicle does not have to experience what I just did. read more

Opened three accounts in a couple of hours without any of the issues previous reviewers kvetched about: Friendly, no "hard credit" checks, supplied a number of checks prior to me ordering some, walked me through all their products, fees, interest, pros and cons of each type of account, and received a personal letter a couple of weeks later, with a phone number, from the branch manager should I have questions or concerns. read more

I LOVE my credit union. I have moved around and still kept my account in Bozeman because the kind customer service and ability to use online banking. Unfortunately today I had an issue that needed a fix in my account. Typically they are very understanding and walk you through your options. Instead I had THE opposite experience today. She was incredibly rude and instead of saying she was sorry that happened, or acted remotely understanding she scolded me like a mom would do then stated they can only do this thing 'once a year' GREAT! CONSUMERS BEWARE: Rocky Mountain Credit Union runs a HARD CREDIT INQUIRY upon opening up a checking account and they don't warn you. (but I will...You're welcome). Hard credit inquiries negatively impact credit and may lower credit scores. (It dropped my score 4 points with TransUnion.) I have built up and earned an excellent credit score and it is unfair for RMCU to damage it because of opening a RMCU checking account. This is not a good way to start a business relationship. Plus, my spouse was already a member of RMCU (shared account with another family member) and RMCU ran another hard inquiry for this new checking account. To say the least, we were upset by being blind-sided when Credit Karma and All Clear ID contacted us about the Hard inquiry that RMCU made. I just assumed that they made a mistake because we simply opened a checking account, we didn't even get overdraft protection. Again, we didn't get a line of credit, a credit card, nor any loan of any sort; we just opened a checking account with debit cards. SUGGESTION TO RMCU on behalf of this consumer: As part of your identity verification process, please consider running a soft credit inquiry instead hard inquiry. This is what most other banks do because it provides protection to banks and there is never a negative impact to consumer's credit and credit scores. In the meantime, please verbally warn your customers that your current policy may lower their credit score. I would have liked to have had the option to opt out of opening a checking account until your policy changed. read more

I went in with my partner to open a joint account. We did not receive a warm welcome, to put it frankly. The first thing the woman did, after we told her why we were there, was look me up and down and say "just so you know we run a hard pull on your credit." No "I'd be happy to help you with that" or anything of the sort. I have a 833 credit score, lady. Don't judge me by how I'm dressed. There are a hundred banks in Bozeman. Rocky Mountain credit union gave me a great interest rate on my truck. The customer service was always a little interesting when making payments, but, when it came time to pick a bank for a small business checking account high compared local accounts and chose Rocky Mountain credit union based on my already having a relationship with them and what they claimed was free checking for small businesses. You wouldn't have thought they wanted my business by the way that setting up that account was handled. they would give me a list of items they wanted. All of which I had on my phone and could have easily had printed off for them, but they would not help me with that. When I came back with the items they told me to come back with, they had more items for me to come back with. I'm my third visit there, the girl I had been dealing with was busy period so I had to do with the branch manager. The branch manager was so rude I didn't ever wanna do business with him again. Totally incompetent. Most of them look like they're very young, and so, I imagine they've ever actually had any business experience themselves. So, I guess there should be no surprise. However, one set up, I thought we would be good to go. I was wrong again. In July, when I got my very first statement from them after 6 months, it came clear that they were charging me $5 a month for statements. And, in fact at, one point, the post office for some reason had returned a statement to them for which they charged me another $5. The post office had also done this to my employer so it wasn't just a unique situation. however, I didn't really think it was my responsibility to pay an additional $5 because the post office didn't do their job. When I called to see what this mystery $5 charge was for, the gal on the phone was rather rude with me. Apparently, there was a fix on the online where I could opt out of statements, which I thought I had done when I was setting up coming anyway. When I let her know is having difficulty registering for an online account, and asked for help, she refused to help me. Completely ridiculous. I'm pulling out my money tomorrow and going to the Bank of Bozeman where my family is done business for decades. The charge me a little bit. but, honesty, integrity and reliability are my number one requirement. read more

My rating is BELOW zero! I have sent Erin White 7 exact emails with my corporate paperwork attached as she requested so they could have things ready for my 2 pm appointment. I thought, "great!" I love efficiency. Nope. She called and cancelled my appointment saying that the power went out. ? None of the rest of Bozeman was effected, so who knows the truth? She said she would call me first thing when power returned. That was 3 days ago and still no word. I have left her 3 voicemails asking for a return call. Nothing. I have never experienced such rudeness, lack of professionalism and lies from any business, let alone one that where I was going to deposit $31,000. Really, Erin? Do not go here! read more

This is owned by some company in Ohio and no longer federally insured. Their online banking is so so as far as ease of use on a phone and they removed the credit card reward system with no warning? On top of that they have bad hours and even when I came in 40 minutes to close they wouldn't help me... read more

I moved to Bozeman this past June and had previously always used a credit union in Michigan where I'm from. My husband was using a local bank so I figured I should just open an account there since he seemed happy with the place. This lasted for a couple weeks before I got sick of their fees and started searching for a credit union! Then we found Rocky Mountain Credit Union. They made the process of opening an account and transferring funds simple and quick. My husband was able to refinance his car loan here and save a lot of $$ on interest and his monthly payment. More people need to know about credit unions. Save money and bank easier by switching to Rocky Mountain Credit Union. So glad I found them! read more

I banked with RMCU in the past and had no problems. However, we just tried to get pre-approved for a home loan and it turned into a total nightmare. It was the kind of experience I was hoping to avoid by choosing a smaller credit union over a nationwide lender. Our loan officer kept losing track of our application and asking for the same paperwork and information over and over again. I kept having to call and email to get an update on what was going on. We would have given up on this and chosen to go somewhere else, but they had already run a hard credit inquiry. After a month of back and forth, it turns out that the information we were given in the beginning was incorrect and we wouldn't be able to open the loan with them anyway. I won't belabor the details, but suffice to say that this was a level of incompetence I've rarely experienced. I'm so frustrated by the amount of time that was wasted. read more

Just moved to the area and was looking for a local credit union. All the reviews for RMCU seemed so great. I had an opportunity that I got off work early so I checked online and google had said RMCU was open till 6pm. By the time I got into town it was 4 PM. Walked up to the teller line and from the very start didn't have the warmest greeting by a gal with two tattoos on her chest/shoulders and told her that we wanted to open membership. She had told us the lobby closes soon at 430 and the process of opening an account would take much longer than 30 minutes. Instead we could start the process online and wait for someone to reach out to us and come back in to sign and get our debit cards. I had told her I work 8-5 mon-fri and that's impossible for me because RMCU isn't open on Saturday's. She suggested that I could come down on my lunch to finish the process. That is not an option for my fiancé and I. Then she suggested that I take time off to come back in. That is NOT what I wanted to hear. For her to dictate how I use my paid time off just to become a member? No thanks, I will take my business somewhere else who is willing to take me on as a member. How do you get new members when your lobby is only open till 4:30 and closed on Saturday's When majority of the working population works 8-5 Monday-Friday's?? I'm baffled. My family and I moved to Bozeman last month, we live near the credit union and thought it would be convenient to bank with them...big mistake. After four weeks of nightmares we decided to go elsewhere. Not impressed with the service or lack there of, very difficult to connect with anyone and when tried to get a loan they dragged the process on for 4 days and I lost the car. This was the main reason I joined Yelp, so you don't make the same mistake I did. read more

Being a dedicated customer for over three years and purchasing many of the banks services (most of which were excessive service charges) I lost my job and through out my unemployment I kept the bank informed of my progress in finding another job as I knew that I had a line of credit and credit card that would be approaching delinquency as the time passed, When I received the funds to square up with the bank (4-6 weeks later) I was treated like a transient whom walked in off of the street. In one day I spoke with three different tellers in the same branch and was different things by all three. I choose to bring my accounts to a zero balance and find another bank that has a sense of customer service and consistency. I'm not sure if RMCU treats all customers the way I was treated or if it was simply discrimination, nonetheless, I highly suggest you choose another bank because this one will cause you nothing but frustration, erroneous fees and a superiority complex unlike I've ever encountered in a service oriented business. If you are in Helena or Bozeman ... walk 15 steps and look the other way because there are NO shortage of banks in this area and I can almost guarantee you'll have a better experience and be treated like a human being. One last incident ... after a month of being unemployed I needed to bust into the coveted piggy bank therefore I brought it to the RMCU branch I usually visit, used their self service coin counting machine and bring the receipt to the teller whom asked my account number. He advised me that my account was overdrawn and therefore they would be keeping the over $200 in change that I had just cashed in and put it toward my checking account overdraft. I almost died as that was the last cash I had immediate access to. Right or Wrong ... I guess that isn't for me to decide. read more

Terrible service. Ever since I had joined them I was not able to make a successful credit card payment, I even had to do phone conferences between the bank and my credit card bank just to get a payment to my credit card. Somehow 1000 dollars was lost for 2 weeks, not in my checking at RMCU and not sent to the credit card. Then my 300 dollar money order (as an alternative to try and make a payment to the credit card) was lost and they refused to help and gave me the run around for almost a month. I have never been so appalled by the type of service I have been given as I have been with RMCU. I never had a late payment in the history of having a credit card, untill I joined RMCU. I have now left that bank and will never recommend this bank to anyone. Ever. Thanks for the fees I have now been charged at my other bank, and the fee from MoneyGram to investigate my missing 300 dollars. Rocky Mountain Credit Union, I really appreciate it. read more
