Expect to be billed for services that should be free. Under our insurance plan, annual physicals and blood work are fully covered; however, this office refuses to code the lab work properly, forcing the cost onto the patient. They simply ignore insurance companies' established codes and policies. ​I specifically instructed them to only perform blood work covered by my annual physical, noting that I have no source of income. They charged me regardless. I will not be returning; I cannot afford to pay for their systemic incompetence. read more

Dr. Hughes is extremely pre-occupied with demanding medical procedures that he believes the insurance company will pay on whether or not your medical history and status actually require them. Conversely, this physician is argumentative and negligent. He makes absurd claims about why basic care, such as physicals aren't needed. Any procedure that he believes will receive any push back from the insurer will be rejected. I came in with a decent corporate insurance policy but after my experience today, I'll being having a conversation with our corporate leadership to assess why my indemnifier is allowing Hughes to accept our policy. Dr. Hughes lies about objective tests results. For instance, he lied about blood pressure at 142 not being hypertension. I'm middle aged and haven't had a physical in probably 30 years. I have a long family history of specific physical health problems and symptoms that started popping up be since I was an athlete. My watch indicates I'm in workout mode when I'm at rest and I asked for a very rudimentary test ( EKG) to rule out medical problems given my family history and symptoms. Dr. Hughes is uncredible and his medical findings and opinions aren't worth a dime. This explains why his practice is located in some obscure, dumpy office on the side of the road in Longmont. Reception are pretty rude as well. Strongly recommend finding a doctor who knows how to listen, who is diligent and has actually engaged in the practice of medicine instead of testifying for insurance defense or whatever it is he does besides scam for payment. Dr. Hughes is a condescending insurance whore. Don't waste your time and seek out a real physician who takes his practice seriously and doesn't engage in lying, bigotry and other tactics used by doctors busy sucking up to insurance companies for a living instead of treating patients. Avoid at all costs. As you can see from other reviews of the " practice ", it's clear that this physician and his staff have burned many bridges in the community. read more

Me and my partner visited this office because my partner has some health concerns. It was a terrible experience to say the least. The doctor was rude and abrupt, talking over us and claiming he didn't have time for the visit and rushed us out the door. Over a course of two weeks, we called consistently to ask for my partners lab results. We left several messages with the doctor assistant. We never received a call back. We also called the front office several times and never received the lab results. We were told that the office had an online website where we could check such things. However, when we went into the website no Labs were present and we were told that the website was a work in progress. This is one of the most unprofessional and unethical physician offices that I've ever been to. You guys really should be ashamed of yourselves. read more

I see Diane Smith, the nurse practitioner at Rocky Mountain Family Practice. I have been her patient for over a year now. I am extremely pleased with her warm professional demeanor. She takes the time to listen and answer all of my questions. She is very prompt in reading test results and getting back to me. I highly recommend her as a health care provider. read more

I did not work with this practice in the actual setting, rather my mother was seen by Dr. Mast's PA Amanda while in skilled care at Accel. Our reasons for admitting my mother from home were due to a sharp decline which I suspected was either due to a UTI or small stroke or both. I am a healthcare provider myself in geriatric care so I had a basis for my concerns. I alerted the facility on admission of my suspicions based on my mom's symptoms and sudden decline, and specifically requested she be assessed for these on her admission review when seen by the MD or PA. On her telephonic care conference 2 days later, neither had been assessed with the PA stating she didn't have the symptoms to justify it and there was no change from her baseline ( though she had never met my mother prior to admission). I'm not sure what was actually assessed, but the feeling my family got on the care conference was that there seemed to be no attempt to seek out answers for what was a sudden change from being thriving at home to suddenly needing 24/7 care in less than a week's time. There was no attempt at communication with our family from the PA or MD upon her admission to gather any helpful information, and my mother was deemed stable. Two days later, my mother passed away. Did she have a problem that could have been treated if it was assessed, and could this have been a preventable death? Perhaps - we will never know. But I am left with the feeling that my family's concerns about my mother were completely disregarded by this PA (and only even considered when pressed at the care conference), and that my mother was not cared for as well as she could have been in her final days as a result. (All this while alone in a new place unable to accept visitors due to current restrictions). -I wanted to make sure I was through initially grieving before writing this in order to be objective, but two months later my thoughts on the whole experience with this PA have not changed. (As a side note, the staff at the rehab center itself was responsive to our needs and my mother's, and used our experience to improve their admission communication process during this challenging time. I am thankful for that. But no further contact from the MD or PA once the care conference was over). Based on our experience with the providers from this clinic who we encountered in the SNF setting, I would not recommend this practice. -I hope this can be taken constructively and used for improved practices in the future so that another family does not have to go through a similar experience. read more

I visited Rocky Mountain Family Practice in Fall 2021 (Dr Ammie Christiansen). When I tried to follow-up this with her this spring she was "no longer there" and RMFP would not say why or where she had gone. It took a few months to find her at UC Health and learn she had resigned (a hint about RMFP) and that RMFP contractually would not allow her to inform or contact any patients about her move. This is both bizarre and immoral on the part of RMFP and I would highly recommend staying away from such "practices", also it was extremely difficult to work with RMFP regarding paperwork. All in all a very unprofessional and inhuman organization. read more

I recently moved away from Colorado and was sad to leave Rocky Mountain Family Practice because of their exceptional service and commitment to the health and well-being of their patients. Though I am no longer a patient there I needed to get some information on the dates of my last immunizations, and other annual exams in order to fill out a questionnaire and find a new medical provider. I was able to immediately get a hold of my providers medical assistant whose name is Janie. She gave me all the information I needed and was so kind and helpful. Both Janie and Nurse Practitioner Diane Smith are excellent. I highly recommend them and Rocky Mountain Family Practice. read more

I have been receiving all my medical care (physicals, chronic and acute care) from Diane Smith, nurse practioner at Rocky Mountain Family Practice, for the last ten years. She truly listens. I never feel condescended to or ignored (a rarity for women in doctor's offices). Additionally, my preferences for non-invasive, natural healing options are always support. She adds to my knowledge and I am much healthier now than 10 years ago. I have reduced my excess weight by 50%, my osteoarthritis pain in nearly zero, and I'm happier. I'm moving to Fort Collins soon and I'm not sure I'm going to give up Diane Smith. I may try other places in Fort Collins but until I find someone with Diane's knowledge and "bedside" manner, I'll continue to make the long commute for my occasional appointments. Diane also practices a healthy lifestyle. I regularly see her and her nurse, Carmen (who is also a gem), at the organic food stores in town, and at the lake on an early morning weekend taking a run. I've never seen any of my other doctors at such places! read more

Well here's an update.. my daughter went in to have stitches removed. And the PA who we used was nice enough to tell her she was fat. Then asked if she was pregnant.! then the PA went on to tell my daughter I was last on my tests , then gave my daughter all my information about me. Things my husband didn't know. I wish I could add more stars! My family and I have been going to RMFP for over 16 years and received nothing less than excellent medical care. The front office personnel are always cheerful, helpful and caring. My girls and I see Dr. Ammie Christiansen and her nurse Maria. What a lovely doctor and nurse team! Excellent doctor and she is not a pill pusher. My husband sees Dr. Fretwell and he too is happy with the medical care all these years. There is nothing more that I can say except how very privileged we feel to have such a caring team attend to all our needs at Rocky Mtn Family Practice. read more

In seeing Dr. Hughes for several years, I found him to be easily irritated, unsympathetic and lacking in thoroughness. He's one of those doctors that needs to make it clear to you that he knows more than you (and anyone else) but obviously doesn't have the time to explain it to you. I also felt like he wanted to make it clear that I was mostly to blame for any issues I might be experiencing - "You're injured because you do the wrong kind of exercise, you're experiencing lots of symptoms because you're stressed. Get unstressed!" - the subtext being that I couldn't expect him to help. But my biggest complaint was when I went to him with a knee injury. He quickly and correctly diagnosed a torn meniscus and told me the next step was to get an MRI to assess the damage, which he ordered. When my insurance objected to the cost and required more from him he simply dropped it. His office wouldn't return my calls when I left messages asking how I should proceed. All he had to do was refer me to a specialist and my insurance covered everything. I guess there's not much money in referring patients to other doctors and that's why it took him over six months to get around to it. I don't think this guy likes his job very much and it shows in a total lack of compassion. read more

I love Diane Smith and her assistant Carmen!! They have to be the best two ladies on the planet when it comes to health care!! I started by seeing the same doctor as my husband and went to Diane for my PAP and never went back! I relocate for work every few years and she is going to be hard to leave and leave my next health care provider with huge shoes to fill! She is so caring and easy to talk to with out being overly invasive. You never feel embarrassed to talk to her because she is judgement free. She is the most professional Heath care provider I've ever had the pleasure of seeing! I absolutely dislike talking to the girls (I say girls because they are all old enough to be grandma's but act like a clicky Jr. High group of bullies!!) at the front by desk! They are NEVER nice! They always act like it's an inconvenience for me to be there, make an appointment, check in, check out! They need to realize without patients they wouldn't have a job! This was my 4th or 5th time here and it's never been pleasant for me dealing with the front desk. People come to the doctor because we have to for a physical, or were not feeling too good! When you get awful service it just makes everything worse!! Diane and Carmen do make up for it though! read more
