We adopted a dog that very clearly has retained deciduous canines which a vet has told me should have been extracted pre-adoption and at the least been noted in his medical history. As a result we will be spending $1000-2000 in dental surgery just mere weeks after adoption. While we have fallen in love with the pup and decided to keep him, we truthfully would not have adopted him if we knew the vet and rescue left him requiring 1000s in dental exam and surgery. It is the rescues obligation to be thorough and upfront about the animal's medical history. The partner vet refused to speak to me about our dog's chart. We requested a refund of the adoption fee to help offset surgery costs and they refused. What's the point in paying $600-700 in adoption fee if they are not going to treat the dog properly?! They seem only interested in making money hence the high fee and poor communication. If they actually cared they would refund us as this is a huge mistake on their part. As others have also said they are not upfront about behavioral issues either it seems yet they are so intrusive in the adoption application. I strongly recommend rescuing at a more credible rescue that has better communication and actual interest in the dogs' future and health... really disappointed. On another note, the foster was met was very kind and seemed to care about the dog we adopted.

Donations are welcome. You can do a donation with credit card, venmo, or your time. Or if you can't give anything that is okay as well. This concept was interesting to me and I have heard some of my friends talk about this place. With the rising costs of food and well just about everything these days, opted to go and give it a try. There is a tight parking lot, seems like it would be hard to get in and out of though especially if you have a higher profile vehicle. There is also some street parking available. Be sure to bring your reusable bags. Well unless you want to use a box. They do provide them but then there is something large to have to recycle. They are open 3 days a week for limited hours so be sure to check they are open when you want to go. Upon arriving there was a line. Which sounds like is the norm. They can only have so many people inside at one time. It is a smaller space and i can see where it would not be fun to have a bunch of people on top of you. The line moved fairly quickly however. When you do get to the door a volunteer will ask you how many people you are shopping for (how big is your household) you just tell them whatever the number is and then you go in. Its a small warehouse type building. There is some shelving and you just proceed to move around and get what you need. Of course try to be respectful of the fact that there are multiple other people who are also looking for food. They had volunteers restocking items while i was there. There is always going to be different stuff as it will depend on what locations are giving away at the time. Today i was able to find some gluten free breads for my daughter and then some organic regular bread and bagels for my husband and son. Also some salad dressings, some vegan dairy items and regular dairy items, some canned veggies and a few peppers and grapefruit. Was able to snag a dozen eggs which i was excited about for the family. Not for myself as i am vegan. Anyhow, overall it did seem worth the trip and i will be back again in the future. I will probably also look into volunteering as well. This seems like a worth cause i could get behind.

As a person with a disability that is not visible I have attempted to shop on Wednesdays when services are suppose to provide easier access to seniors and those with disabilities. Despite documenting the disability in their intake documentation, and after standing in line for about 45 minutes, the volunteer at the front desk looked at my age and informed me I wasn't a senior and should not be there shopping that day. The sad part is how loud her voice carried across the entire line of clients. I informed her I had a disability and informed her it was documented in their intake paperwork. Every subsequent visit has been a repeat to the intake person questioning why I am there shopping that day. I finally gave up trying to show up on Wednesdays. Not all disabilities are physical and visible. My question is why senior citizens aren't required to give proof of age every time they shop, or asked to verify if they are seniors? Once their age is recorded they are given a green light but someone with a disability has to request the same treatment as seniors because the volunteers are forming a judgement because they aren't seeing a physical disability.

We have been there in multiple capacities. -As a patron -as a donor -as a volunteer -for tours with girl scouts and homeschool groups Many many years ago, my family utilized the food bank as a patron and we were so very thankful for the food. They had a variety of stuff that i could find even with special dietary needs of gluten free, vegan, vegetarian. Produce was usually fine and most anything we got was tasty. I have donated food there. Whether for girl scout cookie donations or donations just for other times throughout the year. Donating is a very easy process. They have a lot of hours available to donate. You go in the donation door. And bring your food in. They will have you put your food/donations on a scale and then you can get a tax donation receipt if you would like it. Because of being so thankful for the years of food the food bank had provided for my younger family, I have been thankful to volunteer for this organization. I have brought my girl scout troop here many times to volunteer, homeschool community and also a local womans group. The volunteer coordinator is easy to work with and the jobs are always varied and interesting. There is always a lot to do! Lastly i have brought groups here for tours. Not everyone knows or understands what the food bank does and I thought it was important for my girl scouts and also some folks from homeschool community to be able to hear about it. The tour guides were always engaging and made it interesting and memorable for those that i brought. I am very thankful for this organization and their mission of feeding people.

We happened upon Sherlock with Big Bones, and were eagerly awaiting to meet this sweet boy. I filled out the lengthy application and was waiting and waiting for any response. Nothing. I wanted to call them, but they don't have a number listed. So more than a week later I went back to the original post on FB about Sherlock and asked if he's possibly already been adopted. The volunteer was nice, she kept me informed and said not yet. I asked why I haven't heard back yet, she said to check junk mail folder. Of course there it was, sitting in junk mail for over 8 days. I answered his question regarding our home ownership explaining that I am the home owner, but my home is in a Trust and will remain that way. Without any other questions we were turned down and told that we are not a good fit for Sherlock, but no explanation as to why. He said we can try to apply for a different dog. WHAT? No thank you! How rude! I am so deeply crushed. I just wanted to meet him. I will never use this agency. Max Fund and plenty of others, are far more reasonable and easier to communicate with and meet the animals in need. Adopters be warned.

I turned in a stray dog that I was going to adopt if her previous owner didn't come forward. Based on her teeth, face, and personality, she appeared to be less than a year old. Unfortunately, I later discovered that she was pregnant, and after having a stillborn puppy in there care , she became understandably depressed and stopped eating. It's well documented that such traumatic experiences can lead to reactivity in dogs THAT YOU CAN WORK PAST . it was clear upon finding her that she had been abused skinny and scard of dogs and people , a concern I explicitly expressed to the Humane Society staff. What infuriated me the most was their decision to euthanize her as she was there for less then 4 weeks without informing us, stating reactivity and aggression not exploring any of the other rehabilitating options THEY HAVE to keep this yung dog alive . This felt not only unprofessional but also unethical, especially given the provisions of the Colorado Animal Rights Act, which emphasizes the humane treatment of animals. This decision is particularly egregious considering that, in the week I cared for her before turning her in, her reactivity stemmed purely from fear, a natural response to her past trauma and current situation and through out all that she loved kids . She was a scared, young animal in need of care, not a death sentence. I am beyond disappointed with the lack of communication and compassion shown in this situation. To add insult to injury, they have been ignoring my phone calls. When I did manage to speak with someone, the woman on the phone was incredibly rude, speaking to me as if I were a child and twisting my words to justify their decision to euthanize a dog whose life could have been saved. They took a life that deserved to live. Animals deserve better, she deserved better. I hope that by sharing this experience, the Humane Society will reflect on their practices and improve upper management because clearly this decision was made out of pure laziness The avoidable loss of this dog's life is a profound failure on their part. I am the way they are in the way. They handled this whole thing. I'm very hatred for the staff that decided to go through with this and not speak up.
