Coming here is such a treat. A few pals and I have begun an annual girls trip to a friends cabin in Minocqua, and both years we've stopped here for a prolonged visit to journal, read, and sip away at their coffee. The way to describe this place would be "ultra-homey"-- the staff are all friendly and welcoming. I overheard one of the baristas chatting with a customer about being back from college, which added to the small town feel. They have a great selection of cards, photographs, and paintings from local artists. Both years, I've bought a beautiful card and written a letter to my grandmother on it. It's the kind of place that puts one in the mood to write letters to family. I'll be back next year. read more

Update to my review from a year ago. Everything here is still excellent. Super friendly staff, nice ambiance. I could curl up in a corner and read a book. We are not locals but there were a few in here with their laptops. My husband and I both had the special oatmeal this time. It comes with Carmel, butter, walnuts and pecans and cut up apple. A little pitcher of milk to pour over the top finished it off. My husband had an Apple fritter calling his name and I had a bite. It arrived warm and soft and was delicious. My husband got a dark roast which is his to go to and a large dark roast with a shop of expresso for the road. He say great coffee. If it wasn't we wouldn't be coming back even if the food is awesome. I don't drink coffee (still thinking about a way to learn to like it because I feel like I'm missing out). I use to drink cold chai tea but recently have a sensitivity to black tea and most of the spices in chai so I am having an awesome hot chocolate with hazelnut/vanilla and whipped cream.. Stopped for a quick lunch & drinks but disappointed that the kitchen closes an hour before the coffee bar closes, even in June on a Friday. Got a smoothie & dirty chai to go, waited longer than we would've liked with just one order in front of us in line, and went down the street to Otto's for lunch. They make one drink at a time, so not a place to go if you're looking for fast service. Friendly enough service by the employee that took our order, though! read more

Nice place for a coffee drink. They have sugar free syrup and milk substitutes so I was happy with my iced latte. Free wi fi makes this a good place to work for a bit ( reception can be spotty but somewhat better here than the rest of Minoqua it seems). Friendly service. read more

Such a cute and cozy spot. I came and worked here for a bit and loved my time there. The staff were all so kind and helpful. The coffee was pretty good, I got a caramel latte and mannn they put a lot of flavoring in it. It was a bit too sweet for me. Next time I'll have to ask for less syrup. I also got a bran muffin which was also a bit too sweet but still good. Their breakfast food looked awesome, so next time I'll need to try that out. read more

The atmosphere is great, but you know that when a food review starts by talking about the ambience the food itself leaves something to be desired. My wife and I both had everything bagels, hers toasted, mine was not. They were a "garden variety" frozen bagel like you can get in a grocery store. Disappointed. read more

Pretty meh on the coffee. I ordered an iced latte with almond milk and it was mostly almond milk. No cold brew but they did have iced coffee, which was pretty watered down. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. It's cozy and I could have hung out inside for a while. read more

They need to adjust their system because it takes them a really long time just to take the orders and then even longer to make them. The person taking your order will also be assisting making the drinks for the person before you so you have to wait until they are done with that before they take your order. While I was there there were 4 people working which is more than enough people and they should be able to have one person on drinks and one person on register while the other two cook like most other coffee shops. Wow, so many reviewers giving 5-stars. I guess I'm just not as wowed by long waits, harried service, and empty coffee carafes. Believe all of the kitschy signs around the register, making light of long waits. A kitschy sign doesn't make a long wait any less frustrating (assuming the owner thinks it's funny.) Popped in at 11:30am and the foursome in front of us were waiting and waiting. Then their order took forever and the server stepped away from the register to do something random. She actually did apologize, once she came back and found out I was only ordering a drip coffee, which just involved her handing me a paper cup. Service is nice, but nice doesn't always make up for an unorganized system. Then all of the self serve coffee carafes were empty. Beyond frustrating, and also telling of someone not checking the carafes (11:30am isn't exactly the morning rush). Is there a kitschy sign for that, too? I'm going against the trend and saying avoid unless you're retired and have all the time in the world to waste here! read more

My boyfriend and I always make time for a stop here while we are in town. Make sure to try the gingerbread chai latte - I would drive back out here just for it! The atmosphere is really cute and makes me feel right at home. If you have time to sit and eat, make sure to grab a quiche too! read more

Great place to visit for coffee and other treats. I only ordered a regular coffee the two times I visited. It was very good. My friend ordered a latte and the service is a bit slow. We were cool with it as we weren't in any hurry, but probably something you should know and be prepared for. The place is cute. We stopped at Great Northern Coffee for Sunday breakfast. The music playing in the cafe had a bluegrassy feel to it. We went to the counter and I ordered a cappuccino (Backroads Coffee), and a spinach portobello cheddar quiche with a side of fruit. The cappuccino was good and bold, unlike many I've run across that just taste like hot milk, and the quiche was more vegetables than eggs, topped with cheddar. Mr. R gave me a bite of his hash browned Amish bake, and it was peppered, tasty and hearty. The fruit cup had at least five kinds of fruit in it and it wasn't a canned mix. All of the food was of great quality. They had coffees and teas available for sale to prepare at home and served Eagle Baking Co breads. The cafe was warm with wood and exposed brick and there was local art on display. After sitting down I noticed a sign for specials: one egg and one toast for $3.95, one egg and one meat for $4.65, a bargain! read more

Stopped here for an iced coffee on a hot day as it was next to where I had parked. The line was very long, but moved at a decent pace. The girl at the counter was very friendly. Wow! I've been coming to Minocqua for 30 years and I can't believe I've never come to this place before. Adorable little coffee shop just steps away from the walking trail. We had the perfect morning taking a walk with our baby and then going to get a coffee. The staff was so friendly and efficient and the coffee was delicious! On our way to St. Germain we were hungry and stopped in Minocqua to get something to eat. After checking out the main street cafe where staffers did not wear masks, we decided to keep looking and found this gem just off of main street. I cannot say enough good things about this place. We ordered the "Woody Gutherie" (SO flavorful and filling!), a breakfast sandwich, coffee and biscotti. Everything was delicious and what a deal - under 20 bucks. The curbside ordering was quick, friendly and efficient. (It took less than 10 minutes to get our food.) The staff wore masks and gloves. We will definitely be back both for the food and in appreciation that they value customers' and employees' health. read more

If you're in Minocqua stop into this local coffee shop. Organic coffee. Local art on the walls. Friendly staff. I read another review that mentioned the gingerbread latte so had to give it a try on this rainy day. It did not disappoint. I also love that they ask for your milk preference. I had toasted cranberry walnut bread and my husband had the everything onion bagel with cream cheese. We enjoyed our food and drinks and a great mix of music playing in the background. This place was amazing, bought coffee and pastries our last morning of our stay in Eagle River and wish we would have stopped there before. They have a patio, and seats inside. The menu looked well rounded and offered delicious sounding choices.
