    jerk chicken and plantains
    Gary F.

Flavor explosion! I'm so glad I stumbled across this place. It's not exactly hidden, but it doesn't scream at you when you drive by either. The food though... it speaks for itself! Very tasty and authentic as far as I can tell being a white boy. I couldn't decide between jerk chicken and oxtails so I got both. I haven't had oxtails in years! Very very tasty! The servers were delightful too. Will definitely drop by once in a while!

The food was fantastic! The jerk chicken was so juicy and tender and the curry chicken was amazing and flavorful! The young lady that took care of us was friendly and knowledgeable. The place was clean and had good music.

Fiancée and I have been talking about trying this place since they first opened; but never got around to it until the other night! started taking dance lessons down the street and we wanted to stop by and bring home some food. The wait time wasn't too bad, but also didn't seem like they were very busy when we got there. The hostess was nice and answered any questions we had about the menu. Whenever we go to a Jamaican place, I always have to try their oxtail, so I got that with the rice and peas. It was super delicious. They did not skimp on the oxtail like some places do and I had plenty of meat and sauce to eat with my rice and peas. My fiancée ordered the jerk chicken, which was also well portioned, and she said it was delicious, but her favorite thing she got was the Mac pie. The festival was good too, nice that it came in little chunks- I know some places just give you one bit piece. Lastly we tried both of the patties- both were very good and had a good amount of flavor and spice, but the beef one slightly edged out the chicken. Overall I definitely recommend checking out Rockyaad if you're craving some super good Jamaican food in the area. You probably can't go wrong with anything here but definitely think the oxtails and mac were top tier.

First time here. Got the jerk chicken, rice and peas, plantains and a beef patty. The portions were huge. Enough for two or to have leftovers the next day. Chicken was moist and flavorful and the beef patty had that good flaky crust . The restaurant itself is pretty big with lots of booths along the wall. They have events on the weekends for the reggae heads out there. Very nice place. 10/10 recommend. Will definitely be back

This off the beaten path spot serves legit jerk chicken seasoned with Walkerswood. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. We had the jerk chicken with rice and peas, plantain, cabbage and carrots. Washed it down and put out some of the flames with pineapple "sea-moss" and a "sof drink." Rockyaad Jamaican is highly recommended for casual dining with authentic Jamaican jerk chicken. We will be back to try the jerk salmon!

Ordered the combo platter (2 meats, 2 sides) for $36.00. The oxtail was pretty good! Really flavorful but I think we got the end of a batch because we came in around 2 PM. The jerk chicken was a little dry, but flavor was good and the smoky spice creeped up on us. I also really enjoyed the beef patty which was so flaky and the flavor inside was good. I would come back for the beef patty! Want to try the plantain cups next time (they were sold out when we went ): )

Man was I blown away by the Jerk Chicken! I've only had Jerk Chicken once before at Buffalo Wild Wings and I hated it but my wife really really wanted to try the Ox Tails and Beef Patties and so we gave this place a try and IT DIDNT DISAPPOINT!!!! Rockyaad Jamaican Restaurant on 7609 Fair Oaks Blvd is worth every penny! Great customer service, they read my notes on my online order and called to let me know what they could and couldn't accommodate right away. Greeted me when I walked in. Great seating available, huge booths, nice music playing and great selection of drinks available. Jerk Chicken was so bleeping moist and fall of the bone, this white boy was in love after the first bite. Rice and beans was solid, and the cabbage and carrots was a nice pallet cleanser from the intense heat and spices of the Jerk Chicken. If you cannot handle spice, this isn't for you lol my lips and face were on fire but it was so worth it. My wife got the Ox Tails and she said they were succulent, I gave them a taste and they had a nice bold flavor. Beef patties had such an intense crunch, maybe phyllo dough?!? But the flavor was out of this world, texture was on point. Can't really taste the beef but it's still 100% worth the price. 100/10, will be returning even though it's almost a two hour drive for us

I was so happy to know there is a Jamaican food spot in Carmichael and just a few blocks from me. I enter and waited a few mins before being greeted or even acknowledged for that matter. While waiting I looked at the menu and decided on the oxtail dinner with a side of cabbage and carrot and rice and peas. I also ordered fried Plantains. My order was to go. The inside is nice size with ample seating there is no outdoor seating for those I enjoy outdoor seating. I get home and I'm so excited about my food I tried the rice and peas first. Ummmm... where's the seasoning it had no flavor I think try to cabbage and carrot it looked this the pre packaged stuff you make coleslaw with, that too has no flavor but after putting hot sauce on it it was just okay. Now to the oxtails I had so much hope for them but those too had no flavor like did the chef forget the seasonings?? Did I come on an off day? I have no clue, but the food was not good at all except for the fried Plantains. The prices are good though but that's about it. I may try them out again just no time soon as that's how disappointed I was in the food.

This place consistently provides good food and service. The fried plantains are sensationally sweet, and the sea moss mango juice has the perfect level of sweetness. The jerk chicken was overwhelmingly delicious and well-seasoned. The rice and peas were good as well.

First time here and I can't tell you how happy I am that I gave this place a try! I used to go to another Jamaican place off el Camino but overtime their service and food started to decline. I decided to find a new Jamaican hot spot and I believe I found it ! The space is huge and clean ! The service is great and definitely worth the wait. The portions were amazing compared to other places and everything we had was flavor packed and delicious ! We had a plate of the jerk chicken and a plate of the stewed chicken over white rice. A side of plantains and the cabbage/carrots salad. All tasted fresh and delicious. We will be returning !

Went a bit before five. Food came out hot. Surprised how moist the jerk chicken was. Jerk chicken came with spiciness warning but I liked it, the ginger in the sorrel juice might've been spicier. Got the combo plate jerk chicken with oxtail. Side of pea and rice and fried plantains. I want to get the green plantains and festival next time and the curry and/ or stew chicken. Quiet because it was just me, kind of early after all.

"Jamaican cuisine is an absolute favorite of mine, but finding an authentic spot has been a challenge ever since 'The Front Porch' near LAX closed years ago. Usually, I have to wait until I'm in Florida to find anything comparable. While cruising through Sacramento, I looked up local Jamaican spots and scrutinized the photos. I know that real jerk chicken should like a dry-rubbed, slow-cooked, not just covered in weak jerk barbecue sauce. I chose this place because it looked authentic, and let me tell you--it did not disappoint. I ordered the large Jerk Chicken with cabbage, rice, and beans, along with a chicken patty and a beef patty. The portions were generous, and the food was incredibly flavorful and spiced exactly the way I like it. The atmosphere was lovely, featuring a large dining room with plenty of booths (which I love). I wish I lived closer; if I did, I would be here every week."

So happy I finally got a chance to visit Rockyaad after reading Rich L's gushing review. I opted for take out since I was on my way home from work, but I would love to sit down and eat next time. The inside it self has lots of tables and high tops, very spacious, a bit barebones in decor. Young lady attending the front was helpful and nice. She answered my questions on food I wasn't familiar with. The Chef also came to talk and serve customers. She was very conscientious and wants you to be happy with the food. She checked to make sure you were informed about the progress of your food. The starter I ordered was the Plantain Cups which were addictively delicious. I could've eaten two servings for myself. The cod and ackee/veg mix tasted amazing. My husband loved it so much he immediately called his mom about it. Stew chicken was flavorful and delicious. Tender chicken meat almost fall off the bone. My side orders were rice & beans and tostones. The rice had a nice coconut flavor and was not mushy or overcooked. I ordered both beef and chicken patties. Beef patty was perfect in flavor and filling texture. The crust was very dry and flaky, almost like a cracker. I let it cool down in the fridge a bit, then reheated in the paper bag to steam the crust. It became a softer just the way I like it (this is just my preference so you may like yours as is!) We will definitely be back, especially for the plantain cups. I'd also like to try their oxtails, red snapper and curries.

I'm always warmly greeted when I stop in and enjoy the relaxed vibes while I wait for my takeout order- chatting with the friendly staff and listening to the great music they play while my food is prepared fresh to order. The vegan oxtail, which they make in-house, is my absolute favorite. The plate comes with rice and peas, salad, and plantains. If they have vegan Jamaican Patties available I always get some of those as well (pro tip: they reheat well). Sadly, those veggie-stuffed pastries are frequently sold out, so if you see them get them! When cold weather comes around, I'm all about the Ital soup. It's so simple and flavorful. If I feel a cold coming on this soup is one of my favorite remedies. It's also worth noting that the vegan options have really expanded over the years, and made from scratch, which I definitely appreciate. Dubplate is in my regular rotation for a reason. With authentic flavors and food items, there's not many like it around town. Bodega serves up food from the Caribbean Islands. One of their most popular dishes is their jerk chicken. They have this both as a chicken wing appetizer and as a plated dinner. I personally really enjoy white meat when it comes to chicken and the dinner plate was leg and thigh so I opted to go with the wing appetizer. My only complaint about it was its size. I thought it could have had more wings as I thoroughly enjoyed each one with the jerk sauce I added to it. The wings were very crisp on the outside and full of flavor. Adding the jerk sauce or their house made hot sauces enhanced the flavor even more. I could really see myself coming just for these wings! I also had the Cubano sandwich. This hot, pressed sandwich has ham, cheese, pickles, and mustard. It's a popular item that also is bursting with flavor. The combination of all the ingredients was mouthwatering. It comes with a side of fries to round out the meal. Service at Bodega was very nice. We found the servers to be very patient with us and the food came out reasonably. I was specifically there for a birthday party where we had cake being served from outside the restaurant. Bodega has a cake cutting charge, but seeing our tiny cake they waived it for us! Jerk Shack is a food truck that provides catering service and sets up shop at special events, such as farmers markets, corporate and private parties, local breweries, and county fairs. The truck has a presence at the weekly "Farmers Market," held every Tuesday at Fountains of Roseville. I certainly need to pay the event a visit! The restaurant had a large pan of ribs, ready to serve to hungry rib-loving customers. Like all the restaurants in the rib cookoff, after each rack of ribs is removed from the grill, the rack is cut into individual servings. Tickets for the event were sold in lots of 5 tickets for $10.00, and can be used in any combination at all of the 25 teams participating in the event. Since the tasting time was limited to only two hours - I wish it was a couple hours longer - I chose to only visit three vendors, and enjoy five ribs from each vendor, to allow me to chit-chat with the staff, take photos, and enjoy the delicious ribs. The amazingly friendly owners of Jerk Shack, Shaun and Myisha Parker, treated me, and all of their customers like members of their family. These folks know how to grill/smoke amazing "Kansas City style" pork ribs, with a Jamaican twist. My order of five amazingly-delicious pork ribs, from the kitchen of Jerk Shack. This fine restaurant was my last rib stop for the day, as I only had the opportunity to visit three restaurants in the short two-hour period the rib tasting part of the event lasted. The rib cookoff rules required all ribs to be cooked "Kansas City style," as there was a certified Kansas City rib judge on hand, to ensure ribs were cooked in that genre of barbecue. Jerk Shack is a Jamaican restaurant, and it must have taken a "little doin'" for them to alter their Jamaican recipes to Kansas City standards, but the accomplished the feat with class and style! My five ribs were large, tender, juicy and seared on the outside to a nice "crust," yet moist and tender inside. The ribs were definitely cooked "Kansas City style," but you could definitely taste a hint of Jamaican in the ribs and the sauce, as I suspect the ribs were cooked using pimento wood - flown in from Jamaica - and the sauce was sweet, and just a little spicy, with a hint of Jamaican flavor. Whatever the heritage of these ribs, this was delicious barbecue! Kingston met Kansas City at the 2nd Annual Placer County Fair Rib Cookoff in Roseville, at Jerk Shack! Filled with vibrant decor, assorted plants and knick snacks. It such a chill vibe, which is great for couples dinning and large parties of families and friends. Our waiter was very friendly and extremely welcoming, and he made several suggestions for dishes and drinks; several of which we ended up getting. Drinks: Passionfruit Paloma - $16 Happy Cuba Libre - $8 Appetizer: Half Tostones Half Maduritos - $12 Main Course: Blackened Salmon - $29 PR Special - $22 Dessert: Flancocho - $11 The appetizer...cheap The drinks...great The food...amazing! The half Tostones and half Maduritos were really and inexpensive ($12). We loved the chopped garlic on the Tostones, and the Maduritos were simple as they should be. The PR Mule and Paloma were large in portion and really good as well. And the Blackened Salmon and PR Special were delicious as well, and I'll neber turn down more Maduros as the PR Special came with them as well. I'd originally wanted to order the Mofongo, but unfortunately they were out at the time so I'll have to try it the next time we go. Overall: Great food and drinks, great outdoor patio and dinning experience. Very friendly staff. We'll definitely be back!

Parking at this place can be kind of hard to find, so be mindful of that. We ended up parking…read moreacross the way at the lot across the street. The restaurant definitely has a dark lounge-y feel. Nice for a date night kind of thing. The back patio is really gorgeous, especially on a spring/summer night. My bestie and I hit this spot up after we saw a show at the Guild Theater. It was a super fun night. We got a couple of drinks and tostones and maduritos to start. I love me some plantains and I thought this was a good rendition of it. I think we got for the main plates the mofongo and the pollo guisado. Those were ok. I think that some of the meat was drier than it should have been so it was just ok. I definitely would like to try some other stuff out at his place. The ambiance and service was really great.
