After three visits, we've decided that DQ is a terrific addition to the Carmichael area. We like the spacious and bright dining area. The booths are made to accommodate groups of different sizes. The light touch on Hawaiian decor and and music all creates a nice feeling of the islands. Service is great. Unlike most Hawaiian eateries, this one has table service. The menu has the standards from Hawaiian lunch plate menu. They also offer loco moco katsu curry, fried rice and saimin, and malasadas. We've tried a range of items: kalua pork and cabbage - good flavor; short ribs - tasty delicious; chicken katsu - very crispy good; katsu curry - brings back Hawaiian memories; loco moco - meh; fried saimin - could use more seasoning. One thing is certain about DQ Hawaiian, the portions are big. The mini katsu curry can feed two. I got 3 meals from one fried saimin order. I added the sauce for the BBQ beef to the saimin and it was great. We did try the malasadas. They are made fresh to order and come out blazing hot coated in sugar. They are pretty good hot. But with 10 pieces to an order, it was too much for the two of us to eat in a sitting. It would be great if they'd offered a filled kind in the future. We'll definitely be back for more Hawaiian BBQ. read more

We love getting our catering orders from here for our parties! The food is great quality, comes in large portions, and all of our guests have always enjoyed it when we serve food from here. The staff is friendly and kind, too. We typically place our large orders at least two days in advance and have never had any issues. We also definitely enjoy getting takeout from here on evenings when I'm too busy to cook! It's one of our go-to spots for delicious and convenient meals. read more

So it had been about a month since my cousin and I first stopped in, and I wanted to swing by again, this time with my husband and brother. I had another lovely experience here. I ordered the fried saimin again (for the table), a short rib/fried fish plate, and malasadas (again) also for the table. (I managed to take a picture this time, but not before two of the malasadas got snatched up.) My husband ordered a Spam musubi, double cheeseburger with fries and a drink; my brother, a Spam musubi and the short rib and katsu plate. I enjoyed myself this time around, just as much as the first time. My husband and brother both enjoyed their meals, and yes, they had leftovers (as did I). I'm planning on coming back again soon, this time with my teen niece in tow. My girl has a healthy appetite, and she loves Hawaiian BBQ. I'm curious if she'll be able to finish a plate by herself, while we're at the restaurant. read more

We were pleased to see a new Hawaiian bbq place open up close to home and had a a chance to try it out last night. Good decision as it turned out! The place is pleasant and clean although a bit sparse still. They're clearly working on it still but it's nice. The service was super friendly and quick and the menu is actually a bit more extensive than I initially suspected. We ordered some potstickers, which were delicious and not as thick and chewy as they often are in other places. We also got one of each type of musubi and found them all to be really good. My wife ordered the BBQ mix, which was huge (like three meals worth) and all of the meats were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I got the chicken katsu curry, crispy and tasty with a nice mild curry sauce. I could have gotten the mini version and still been full. As it was we took a LOT home. Our friend got the kalua pork and she was very happy with it also. We're suckers for malasadas and we were very pleasantly surprised to find them on the menu. Coming out hot and fresh we ate too many, but we couldn't help ourselves - that's how good they are! This is easily our favorite Hawaiian BBQ place now. read more

SOOO much more authentic and better than the chain Hawaiian BBQ places! I got the Khalbi plate, since I've been missing a good Khalbi since my trip to Hawaii in 2022. Tried this place for the first time tonight and was pleasantly surprised by just how good it was! Not only was my BBQ chicken hot, fresh, and yummy - I could hardly believe how generous a portion of meat they gave me. I walked away full and still have a least another meal and half left to enjoy. The staff is friendly and attentive. They showed me right to a table and gave me a nice pitcher of water with lemon to enjoy as I read the menu. I could tell they were making my food fresh, because I could hear the clatter and sizzle in the back kitchen and smell the meat grilling. Soon enough, out came the server with a platter with a small pile of thinly sliced, perfectly cooked Hawaiin BBQ chicken, along with scoops of white rice and a scoop of savory pasta salad. Here's why I'm giving four stars instead of five: I intentionally ordered the BBQ chicken plate, listed under the healthy options. It was supposed to come with brown rice, not rice, and green salad, not pasta salad. They didn't say anything and neither did I. And like I said, I enjoyed what I got. It just wasn't what I'd ordered. The restaurant has a quiet, soothing vibe, with a Hawaiin aesthetic and lilting ukulele music drifting from the sound system. Really a pleasant surprise, this place, and there's a lot more on the menu I'd like to try. read more

I got the mix BQQ plate; white rice and Mac salad exactly what you'd expect. Short rib was flavorful but chewy; a bit overcooked, teriyaki chicken had great flavor; a bit overcooked as well. And the teriyaki beef was good but fatty. Didn't expect anything amazing so I was pleased. Overall I liked it and enjoyed my meal. The teriyaki sauce and flavors really saved the dish. 10/10! Hawaiian food is my absolute favorite cuisine, and I'm so happy this place is only a couple of blocks away. My family has ordered from here several times, and I've picked up food for them before, but this was actually my first time trying it myself--and it definitely lived up to the hype. The woman who helped me at pickup was incredibly kind. She made sure my order was correct and even asked if I wanted extra sauce, which I appreciated. I also have to give them credit for accommodating a last-minute order. I called about 15 minutes before closing, but the call was forwarded. My mom called back and was able to place the order, and I showed up about 10 minutes later to pay and pick it up. I really appreciate them taking the order so close to closing. Next time I'll make sure not to be that customer ordering at 8:50 p.m. The food was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I was craving. I'll definitely be back. My only piece of constructive feedback is the website. It was a little difficult to navigate. When I visit a restaurant's website, I'd love to see the menu first instead of immediately being directed to order online. A more accessible menu would make browsing a lot easier. Saw on IG that they opened a 2nd location in Carmichael which is closer to me than their Elk Grove location. They recently opened a few days ago and since my husband and I were craving Hawaiian food today after a Costco run, we decided to stop by. The place is located in a plaza at a busy intersection so you can't miss it. It's located where Burger Im used to be next to Jamba Juice. There's plenty of parking spaces and when you go inside, there's also a good amount of seating. Since they just opened this location, there are still some things they need to configure like their kiosk to do self-service and their soda fountain but I didn't mind. My husband and I were seated right away and were given menus. The menu had a good amount of options and I liked that they had a healthy plate option that included brown rice and salad. My go-to meals at Hawaiian places is the chicken katsu plates so that's exactly what I ordered. I got the Chicken Katsu Mini Plate while my husband got the Half & Half Chicken Full Plate. We also ordered a Spam Musubi for each of us to start off with and also Malasadas to take to-go. The Spam Musubis came out first which was a perfect start to our meal and we liked the balance of the rice and sauce they put in it. Right after, our main dishes came out and for a Mini Plate, the portion size was HUGE! Then my husband's Full Plate came out and it was even more portions! We were both surprised with the amount of food that our dishes came with that we ended up not finishing it all and had to get a to-go box. We literally filled our to-go box to the point where it looked like we ordered a third plate lol! We also liked the amount of katsu sauce they give both when dining in and when taking a sauce to-go. Finally, our Malasadas were given to us as we were heading out and they were still hot and fresh which was the best time to eat them! We each ate one when we got to our car and told ourselves we would only eat one each but we ended up eating another because they were that good! Overall, my husband and I were really impressed with the portion sizes, the quick service, and especially how much everything costed us! The prices for the items on their menu were a bit more affordable compared to other Hawaiian food spots. The prices that stood out the most for us was a Spam Musubi for $2.95 and the Malasadas for $6.99 for 10 pieces! We will definitely be back and can't wait to see when they have everything put together to make their restaurant and business continue to flourish and serve the Sacramento community with their amazing Hawaiian dishes! read more

Honestly took some bites of the chicken before the photo. The chicken is tender, juicy and flavorful. The Mac salad taste super fresh and the rice well is perfectly cooked. This is my second time coming in to a place with great service. I called in the order and it was ready and piping hot upon arrival. Let alone the place is super clean. We are new to the area and were craving Hawaiian bbq, looked at the reviews and found this little gem. We were early greeted as soon as we walked in, which was a great first sign. It's a small little restaurant which was nice and clean, where you can dine-in. We were given menus and a table, where we decided to order for take out - only because we were really tired and wanted to be home.
