I've been going here for 22 years. Best pizza in town, closest pizza to NY style in the area. Lots of options and all of the food is great!

First, I ordered delivery through GrubHub and paid, then tracked the driver. When he was almost there, my order was canceled, and they were closed. I decided to order takeout, and the only way to do so is through a platform like DoorDash, but you pick it up. So I ordered my food, and 5 minutes later, I parked, and they were closed. Really rude and unprofessional attendant at the restaurant's creamee stand. We are local and stop by the sand quite a bit in the summer, but we will not be back. Not only did the attendant showcase really unclean personal hygiene behaviors, but also gave less than half portions of the sundaes, using her bare fingers to reach into the cherry supply and pop it on top of our desserts, she then charged the full amount versus a half serving. The attendant ended the interaction by refusing to give us clean wrapped, spoons like the Resturant always has and made us take the ones open, from a cup with used sprinkles in it. If you are that miserable at work, find a different job....its an ice cream stand. read more

Stopped by Rocky's at 3:40 PM on a Monday. There were two people in line ahead of us, and after taking their order, the guy at the front told us they were "wrapping up" and couldn't serve us. We checked the posted hours, and they clearly say open until 8 PM. If you're going to close early, update your hours -- don't turn away customers in the middle of the afternoon. The food is decent but they only offer delivery through Grubhub. The last two times I've ordered delivery it never arrived, and I had to go through customer service hell. Tried calling Rocky's but whoever it was that answered was less than helpful and wished me good luck dealing with Grubhub. TLDR; do not order delivery! Unless you enjoy the disappointment of waiting an hour before talking to gaslighting customer service human robots (while hungry) that is. read more

Two orders of chicken tenders from Rocky's pizza. Charged me the same price for both of these orders. After returning because I only got one of the orders, i asked why the other tenders (first pickup) looked like that.. I was told "that's the bottom of the bag and that's why the tenders are like that." They did not offer to switch out the order for me. Same price, clearly two different meals. Just terrible. If a place wants return business, a smile, a positive greeting, and a "let me know what you think", leaves customers with a favorable feeling. What a shi.hole. I called they said they are open till 830pm so I went up there for ice cream for the kids on a Friday night. I get there 821pm was told we are closed sucks to be you. After I just called lol. I call back the owner gets on the phone. Some guy name James. Says well I will come outside. So he does and says we were slow so we closed. Rocky's has potential to be better. It uses Grubhub for delivery which, truth be told, doesn't care if Rocky's gets 2 stars. It is unfortunate that a driver committed to Rocky's business is not an option. I had the current address correct, but a contact number type-o of 803 instead of 802, and poof-no food. When I called Rocky's they seem apathetic, which is a problem for another time. I was told to call Grubhub. Through a mask, I am trying to tell Lysa from Grubhub about the lack of food. She said it was my fault for typing the number wrong, even though a phone number had little to do with an actually address in terms of an email saying "delivery complete". What really makes me not want to use Rocky's-until they demand a business that is contracting out support their business here in Essex - is that an 803 number doesn't exist in Vermont. Lysa didn't seem impressed when I mentioned this feedback. She did give me a discount for my next order, because by this time, Rocky's closed. I am not sure if I am more upset that Grubhub has the ability to refund without reflection and we live with poor business or that I was unable to have pizza tonight. read more

Take-out is not great, food quality under cooked. They focus on speed not quality. Woman at the register, rude, not going to elaborate. I have given this place several chances in 2 years, and the experience has been consistently poor. Happily will continue to take the 30 minute round trip to worthy establishments. read more

Placed an order online. Received confirmation e-mail with time food would be ready. Arrived at this time and was told they never received my order. Was then rudely told that others needed to be helped who were behind me, without even saying what was going on with my order. At no time was I told if my order would be made. Overheard the people in the back saying to each other that no one had checked their online order system and that was why they hadn't made my order, so just to make it then. Had to wait an additional 30 minutes beyond time food was supposed to be ready. Was finally told the food was done, without anyone explaining what had happened, an apology for the delay, or at any point explaining what had happened. Very poor customer service for how the mishap was handled. It takes little effort to at least engage with your customer to explain a mistake. Will not return. read more

My childhood gold standard for pizza. While Rocky's is not as good as I thought it was growing up, it's still decent pizza for suburban Vermont. More or less NY style, the pizza is suitably greasy without going overboard and the cheese ratio is just about right. It's a bit too doughy and the sauce is a bit sweet, but this will do just fine for takeout when you don't feel like cooking. read more

This place is great - perfect for a quick and casual bite to eat. The food is cheap, delicious and always served so quickly. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I've been several times and have nothing but good things to say. They can be a little crazy with their toppings, but who am I to judge? Don't knock it until you try it, I guess!. Stopped by after a meeting in Essex today for a bit to eat for lunch. Had the special 2 slices and a drink for $6! The Pizza was great, crust very good, had a pepperoni and the other was sausage and onion with some heat added to it. As usual I added more red pepper to both. Grabbed an unsweetened tea from the cooler and had a nice sit down lunch. What a fantastic deal, great pizza.....thank you, thank you, thank you. read more

Ordered at 7pm on Monday night. Order took 20 minutes. We got the family dinner for four. Ziti with marinara and meatballs, garlic bread, salad with blue cheese dressing and a 2 liter of soda. Rocky's has been here for ever. I can not say that I stop here to often but when I do it always reminds of why I never really come here. On Saturday it was hot and humid out! So me and friend had gone down to Rocky's for a cremee. Needless to say it was ok over all but the service was pretty lacking. I had gone to the window to give them my order and they girl seemed more annoyed than anything else. Also a medium cremee will set you back around $3.20. I thought Al's was expensive... On top of that the cremees seemed way to sweet. I know it must sound funny to complain about but I really like the creamy factor of any soft serve ice cream. Am I a bit picky? Sure but ice cream is my first love! So I should be. So in the end it left a lot to be desired. Service was lacking and the taste was just far to sweet for me and my liking. read more

I've been going here for years; mainly for creamees with the kids and occasionally for some meh pizza. Service has never been outstanding but usually friendly enough. Tonight though, some jerk cleaning up comes to my kids and me while we wait in line and says, "we're not making any more pizzas so slices are your only option." I told him that wasn't a problem because we just came for ice cream. He looks at me and says, "the ice cream machine is turned off," and walks away. I know the place was sold somewhat recently and can only imagine that the service I experienced tonight is related to that. "Rocky" was a good guy who wouldn't have stood for customers being talked to that way. He should have stripped the name when he sold the business. I ordered from them at 5:07 on Tuesday night they said an hour ok cool at 6:10 it left the store ok that's not bad they are 5 mins down the road that's fine at 7:00 it barely gets to the door he didn't have me sign anything that was weird because I used a cc but whatever I get the pizza in the house freezing cold and burnt I was so disappointed I loved them as a kid and just wanted to have some good pizza it was nasty and I didn't want to wait another 2 hours to get another pizza I also had 5 kids waiting for that pizza to come and they were hungry I also ordered a sub some stuff was missing on it no big deal but I did want it cold and it was hot my fires were wet and soggy and my mottz sticks didn't even look like they were cooked. read more

Ok so this is my first experience with Rocky's aside from the awesome soft serve they have so to the dirt... first off I ordered the lunch special two Michigan dogs and fries for 4.99 and 1.00 to add fries which I did also pepperoni slice and mozzarella sticks and garlic knots and two sodas. First thing I noticed getting our food I did not get Michigan dogs in stead I got hotdogs with beef chili no mustard and onions which are the main ingredients of making a Michigan dog also the mozzarella sticks weren't even melted inside just warm not gooey don't get me started on the pizza cold oily just sucked in general the garlic knots weren't even garlic knots lol just tiny balls of fried dough tossed in with garlic and cheese not one knot seen in sight. One good thing is they give you tons of sauce and the ice cream is really good food not so much so come for the ice cream on a nice hot day and take a walk around town read more

Consistently the best, traditional pizza around! The crust has a perfect chewy-ness and a perfect thickness. We also love to top off our meal with a Rockslide (Blizzard) or a good ol VT creemee! Rocky's atmosphere is extremely casual and chock full of white, red & green decor. There are also a lot of outdoor picnic tables that are full on beautiful spring, summer & fall days with long lines at the outdoor creemee windows! Rocky, the owner, is extremely active in the community and is the one who started the Penguin Plunge to benefit Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, a camp for children with, and survivors of, cancer. If you want some delicious pizza and are in the area, stop on in. You won't be disappointed! They also do sandwiches, pizza-by-the-slice, pasta & salads. Can't speak for any of those because I'm really happy with what we get each time we go. They also deliver and you can also stop in to buy their dough for close to nothing (although we never do it justice!). read more

Initially called to try and make my order, had the phone hung up on me and had to come to the pizza shop. Waited an hour for 2 pizza rolls, received two totally different size pizza rolls, one was made well the other was doughy. The cheese and toppings we're missing from the inside as it was leaked on the inside of the container received. I continue sitting here after dealing with the young immature unprofessional female working at the counter arguing with my opinion of the food quality. Will not be coming back for pizza anytime soon and will most definitely not recommend this to anyone. In addition a guy who was also picking pizza up who is vegetarian ordered a plain cheese pizza and ended up getting a pizza with sausage on top. Just Discovered that Rocky's has gluten free pizza, so of course, I had to try it. I've never had Rocky's before. Their regular pizza always looked soggy with too much crust so I was a bit skeptical when it was suggested. But I dove... So first of all their sauce is amazing. That surprised me because good Italian sauce is hard to find in Vermont. The crust was Ok - a bit on the soggy side. Toppings were ok too. I would go back, but probably only regularly if Upper Crust Pizza in Essex starts to taste bad to me... Glad I tried it and that I have a second option. I ordered a strawberry sundae which in the description said "with whipped cream, nuts and cherry" however I was greatly disappointed to find hot fudge sauce in my strawberry sundae. When I got up to complain I was told that's just the way they come. I don't like hot fudge, and did not order a hot fudge sundae. The pizza is cheap, convenient, and is better than Little Caesar. Interior seating is small and pretty trashed. Outdoor ice cream stand is a neighborhood attraction. We like Rocky's, they do a good job. This is a simple corner pizza shop, and honestly it's a pretty good take on NY pizza. This is not a fancy place with amazing Italian dishes, but if your expectations are good pizza, maybe some ice cream and a playground for the kids...this is your place. Ordered a pizza for pickup and was pleasantly surprised. If you're into greasy, gooey, slices that you can fold in half than this place has the pizza you're looking for. I was born and raised on Long Island and I am sorry, there is NOTHING "NY" about this pizza. The crust is flat, the sauce is 'eh" and there is way too much cheese... often undercooked and always greasy. The ice cream stand is OK but your'e way better off at a regular Creemee stand. Also they are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. I took my three kids here, we got a slice and a soda each and the bill was close to $30. Yikes. We never order pizza from Rocky's. Sorry to say. read more

I grew up having Rocky's Pizza on a number of occasions, and now that i'm gluten free, they make a pretty good specialty pizza pie. Very soft (not hard crust) and different than their original pizza, but worth the price. read more

Love Rockys pizza and their calzones! Great New York style pizza! We are from NY and when we first moved to Vermont we were in south Burlington and had a hard time finding a decent pizza place. Once we moved to Essex junction and found Rockys we couldn't have been happier. I definitely prefer being in NY and getting NY pizza, but they are a great replacement. I would like to start by addressing the Rocky's calzone. For only 75¢ each you can add in fillings so raw it's as if you are biting into veggies straight from the grocery store shelves. What's better inside a hot calzone than the astringent taste of a raw white onion? Or how about the chalky, yet rubbery consistency of an uncooked mushroom? But don't worry, they won't stop at the produce. Beneath the crust hides a a layer of sheer dough that will have you asking, "does this cheese taste like a baker's nightmare to you?" At first blush, the massive crescent of crust, cheese and fillings is appealing, but slowly you will realize that it contains a heinous salad of lazily constructed nonsense than no man or woman ever asked to be wrought upon this world. I sincerely hope that the chef who made this calzone made it on time to his job interview, or whatever event he was rushing to attend so expediently he could not introduce his ingredients to a mere five minutes of heat. In short, the Rocky's calzone will have you reexamining everything you thought you knew about the possibilities of defiling classic Italian foods, and the lengths some cooks will go to indulge in the preparation of generally sadistic cuisine. Creemees are pretty good and reasonably priced. Two stars. read more
