And honestly, even if you like none of those things you should check this hostel out because it is affordable and extremely pleasant as a place to lay your head when you're exploring the White Mountains National Forest. That said, Rumney is the spot for outdoor rock climbing and Dave, Liam, Allison and the rest of the staff at Barn Door live the life. They have tons of info from the extensive library and maps, to rental gear and tips for good places in the area. As far as lodging, there's outdoor camping with a solar electricity charge port and water refill station, as well as an outdoor shower. You can take a bed or private room with up to 4 beds in the hostel itself. Or, do the bus! The bus is basically car camping with a massive upgrade. From the parking area you follow a winding path up to the clearing with an outdoor kitchen, fire pit, picnic table, compost toilet, and, voila, a bus with 2 cozy beds, an upper deck, a sink with potable water, and a stove to keep you warm. There was also a coffee pot and lovely local coffee in locally made mugs. The bus has plenty of ventilation but also closes up tight so we never felt too hot or cold. There was plenty of room for all our stuff and we slept very well on the beds. The upper level bed had pillows, sheets and a duvet. Lower level was a bed created from two bus benches and we probably would have been able to make up a bed but just used sleeping bags. You access the upper level via ladder and unless you're tall and limber, it's a bit athletic going up and down. But it's sure as hell really fun! In the evening, there are lights along the path to the bus and it is honestly just magical walking through the woods and over the bridge. We loved our stay and look forward to returning. The staff were so nice and we loved chatting with them and hanging out with their friendly pets. The inside of the hostel was immaculate, including the bright, clean, well ventilated showers and toilets. Thank you for a great climbing vacation!

We have been here every season and it never gets old! The resort is really nice. Our condo was just a short walk to the newly updated rec center that has a beautiful pool and hot tub. The outdoor pond is clean and has a nice beach area, they even provide floaties. Our condo was updated and clean. Plenty of room and even nice outdoor seating. The fact Deer Park is just off the exit made it so nice and easy to find. The views and nature path are really nice too.

When we parked at the section we were assigned, my friend was told there's a X car limit per party. Somehow, we managed to get parking, but it wasn't in front of our complex since there were several vehicles scattered in the lot. Inside the room, were 2 single beds and 1 that can be shared. The bathtub was so small that one of my legs had to be on the outside if I wanted to sit down. There is a kitchen available if you choose to make your own meals. There's also Wi-Fi (password in a binder). The quiet time isn't enforced at all, our neighbors could be heard partying the night away. At the main office of the resort, there's a pool and sauna. There's also a gym, but not much to work with unless you enjoy cardio. My only complaint is the lack of restaurants nearby, but other than that, I'd definitely come back.

We have stayed at this particular resort, a handful of times, and every time the decking has always had spider webs and dead bugs everywhere, which is unfortunate because you want to sit out there and watch the foliage and/or snow covered trees, because it's such a beautiful and peaceful area. The front desk is located where the pool and arcade is. It's not a very welcoming area as a "Front Desk/Foyer" should be. The stairs leading up to that area have paint chipping and wood in desperate need of repair. Upon looking, they look extremely unsafe, but are not. The arcade needs updating. Most games were vintage and out of order. The hot tub area was a complete mess! The hot tub itself was clean and enjoyable. The walls of the hot tub area looked moldy with paint shipping. White walls had spots of black and the vent in the wall leading outside needs a definite cleaning. In general, that whole area looks unsanitary. Overall, the resort did the job of what was needed, but the aesthetics and overall look of the place could definitely use a refresher. I feel badly for the families that own these units, they are not represented properly.

We loved the location so close to the boardwalk and beach, beautiful and quiet in the morning for my running pleasure, then nice and happening once the family woke up and we went back down. Reasonable rates. We would stay again. Loved relaxing on the porch at night reading stories to our kids. Super cute, they loved playing out on the lawn as well.

For the price we could have easily booked a beautiful updated hotel mountainside with amenities but felt the private pool would be worth it and we like to be able to put our young kids to sleep and hang out together playing games. Honestly the pool isn't great. Even keeping covered all day it was pretty cold to be in it. Basically only the kids swam because the adults were shivering. It's also carpeted with leaves a lingering musty smell throughout the house. The kitchen is small, the bathrooms are outdated and In general it wasn't amazing. Maybe if it was affordable it would have been worth it but at the rate of over $6000 for 4 nights it wasn't up to the standards you would expect. You need to provide everything yourself. Sheets, pillows, towels, toilet paper we forgot hand towels and had to go buy them it's just obnoxious. Again just normal hotel amenities but when paying so much you would expect to have things provided. We rent Airbnb's and vacation homes a lot, to be more comfortable than a hotel and this was significantly less comfortable. The owners are so stringent we were scared to even ask for the pool temperature to be warmer or the slippery ice conditions out front to be addressed after they treated us so aggressively over the phone before checking in. You'll pay a hefty cleaning fee but also be told to basically scrub and clean everything yourself or they will charge your security deposit. I think we paid $550 for them to vacuum? Besides just sub par updates it is frustrating to be spoken down to so rudely and assumed to be some kind of bachelor party when you're just 3 families with kids. If you set your hopes very low and pay half the price maybe then it would have been a worthwhile place to go. Otherwise the pool at cranmore mountain looked great.

We arrived to a note with some basic info and informing us that they upgraded our room for free to the Connecticut room which was a very nice surprise as the upgraded room had a Jacuzzi tub. There were instructions to call the owner to let them know what time we wanted to eat breakfast, we accidentally asked for 10 minutes before they start serving and they did accommodate us. The Inn is very cute and cozy, we made use of some of the available brain teaser puzzles that evening. We were able to adjust the temperature of the room easily. The bed was very comfortable and had plenty of warm blankets. The hot water did take a little while to heat up, we started to worry that the water heater was broken but it if did heat up eventually. In the morning we went out to the breakfast area and the inn keeper told us to pick a table to sit, not exactly warm and welcoming but to the point. The breakfast was decent, the fresh fruit was very nice. The inn keepers didn't seem to be the most outgoing/friendly types but nice enough when we got to talking. There is a little driveway to the Inn which was convenient for dropping off all our stuff before parking in the little lot the next driveway up. Overall we had a great stay, and would recommend the Wilderness Inn for local stays, especially with Waterville Valley and Cannon Mountain so close by.

To put it simply: Business owners that blatantly disregard human life and hide behind their own "policies" as an excuse to pocket hard-earned money from their clientele, do not deserve anyone's patronage. If you are interested in the details of what happened, please feel free to read below: I was greatly looking forward to my stay for the upcoming weekend when I made my booking on Sunday, 7/9; however, devastating storms and unprecedented flash floods swept through most of New England the following day. Upon seeing the damage in my area and on the news, I immediately called the owners at the Wilderness Inn and expressed my concerns about traveling from New York + their location being so close to the Pemigewasset River. They assured me they had no damage, but I reiterated my growing unease given more bad weather was predicted for the weekend I was staying (with the worst of it Friday and Sunday, the days that I would be traveling 5-6 hours or more by car). They insisted everything would be fine, even though there is no way to guarantee safety in such dangerous and unpredictable circumstances like flash flooding. As I was getting ready to start my drive to NH on the morning of Friday, 7/14, my navigation app alerted me of flash flooding along multiple routes. I called the owners and kindly asked if they would be willing to work with me and offer a refund (I even offered to pay a cancellation fee), or allow me the opportunity to reschedule my stay for another weekend since it was a life-threatening weather event and even local authorities were advising against all non-essential travel. Unfortunately, I was met with a cold and callous response. Instead of showing any empathy toward my predicament, they dismissed my concerns and summarily denied my request for a refund or rebooking. They failed to grasp the severity of the weather conditions and continued to insist that it was safe to travel (it was not). After our call, I formally notified them via email that I would not be traveling due to the storms and gave them one last opportunity to reconsider their cancellation policy. Sadly, they went ahead and charged my credit card for the full amount, but not before belaboring that there was "no emergency" in NH (there was). In a time when compassion and understanding should prevail, the owners of the Wilderness Inn showed clear negligence, an alarming lack of responsibility and professionalism, and a shameful disregard for the safety and well-being of their guests. It is frustrating to witness such an abysmal level of customer service. I sincerely hope the owners reconsider their business practices and realize that customer satisfaction and safety should always be the utmost priority, especially in extreme weather events.

As an old…read moreinn, it has a lot of charm, but also modern amenities such as a pool and hot tub (which was a welcome respite from our busy day). The breakfasts were bountiful and superb! Our host (and cook!), Krista, could not have been more gracious and informed. The inn was owned by Babe Ruth's daughter in the 1940s and early 1950s and the Babe visited several times and had a preferred room, which we really enjoyed. Krista took us on a tour and every room is quaint and unique. There are also multiple sitting rooms, an expansive deck, and a grand piano and guitar available for casual play if you have the knack. The property sits on 5 acres and borders a very pretty brook. This is a great place to relax - we actually rushed through a dinner to get back to the inn! We'll be back!

Even one sleep in the sumptuous annex was an absolutely treat! First, our hostess, Frederique, was simply lovely from start to finish. She was literally the only other human being that we interacted with during our stay. Sadly, they had just suffered a tragedy in the family and she had to jet off for France the following day. Even so, she was gracious, gave us brilliant recommendations for dinner in Conway, showed us on a tour around the grounds (including the always-on outdoor hot tub), and prepared a satisfying continental (in the European sense) breakfast the following morning. And about the lodge itself... what a significant affair! Our suite had an in-room jacuzzi (which we failed to use due to exhaustion from a day out on the slopes), a separate standing shower, a magnificent queen bed, and an antechamber with a television and microwave. We probably could have moved in and been quite comfortable for weeks in the space. And aside from the morning repast, energizing us for more boarding (and bruising), my absolute favorite part of this inn was getting to take advantage of the real wood-burning fireplace in the main building. I'd -just- read a Lifehacker article about using cardboard egg crates as a clever way to start a fire, and lo and behold, how was the fire prepped but with a dexterously rolled newspaper acting as the fuse to a cardboard egg carton under a quadrangle of expertly laid logs! I'm not sure how many hours we sat just staring into the flickering flames, teetering away on our rocking chairs, but they were some glorious times, I assure you. If you're hitting Cranmore's slopes and looking for a stupidly convenient place to get a night's rest, I wholeheartedly recommend dropping Frederique and her husband a note. I'm not sure what I'm more tempted by - the delightful stuffed croissant for breakfast, or another day of practicing swapping heel-edge and toe-edge!
