Rod 'N' Reel Resort has been around for many years, and I've been there countless times over the past 18 years. I recently stopped by a few weeks ago and was honestly excited to see the transformation. The place looks immaculate--from the parking lot to the inside. My review is mainly based on the casino and lobby areas, but both were really impressive. The space feels much more elevated and modern than it used to. The casino area had a DJ playing, which was a whole vibe, and there were plenty of machines. Overall, the place feels brighter, more welcoming, and updated compared to what it was before. I also loved the main entrance and the hotel lobby--it really makes a great first impression when you walk in. Overall, it was a great experience. I'm looking forward to coming back again and possibly staying overnight next time so I can check out the rooms too. read more

I stayed a few months ago everything was great especially the staff which i felt made me feel right at home. Im checking in again tomorrow for a week and im sure I will have great stay. My husband and I came here for our anniversary. We live not too far away and since I'm not able to air travel thought we'd give this place a shot. I'm so glad we did! We had an amazing experience. The rooms are clean and modern. Nice marina views. The restaurants had great food. Casino was fun. I will say that our only gripe is how the room doors have to be locked if you're leaving out. Other than that, we plan on making this our weekend getaway spot. read more

While visiting the DMV, my in-laws who like gambling at the casino as much as myself, offered to take my husband and I to what they called their hidden gem of a casino in Chesapeake Beach, MD. As we drove through the small coastal town, they pointed out all the main attractions like the beach and a couple of restaurants. Parking was available on the street, and the resort also had a tiny parking lot. Construction was underway due to a renovation, so I was not able to get a full view of outside the resort. The casino has 2 floors and is quaint. They also offer bingo, and you can purchase lottery tickets. My party of 4 split up after arrival, and we had no issues finding each other by scanning the room with our eyes, no need to do a lot of walking. They have slots that are not the traditional ones I'm accustomed to. The slots all are like the penny slots that you find at a larger casino with all the noise and graphics, but you can wager in higher denominations if you care to. We spent two hours there and I was not impressed. If you are staying at the hotel, the small casino is a nice added convenience. I would not travel to come back for the casino alone. read more

This place still has some work to do as far as renovations etc etc. It's a beautiful place. My Mom wanted to celebrate her 88th bday here. We didn't realize the restaurant wasnt open so we ended up going right on the premises to 1936 Bar and Grill that was connected but it was a little walk to get there for Seniors. Our friends and family seemed to enjoy the casino. The casino has two floors so that makes up for it being a smaller casino. The waterfront outside bar had great views. The Bartenders seemed like they could have used more training. They seemed overwhelmed even when the bar wasn't busy. Maybe they need a barback to help because they weren't even cleaning off your empty drink cups. Still I will definitely return. Such a lovely place just need to get the kinks out. Hopefully the Rod n Reel restaurant will be opened next time I visit. read more

We just stayed one night but there was much to be desired. It did not feel like a "resort". The front staff when checking in was not too friendly or inviting. The room was bigger than I expected but like other reviews it was musty. The air conditioner was very loud. I thought I would be okay with it; like a white noise machine but I was not. It was difficult to fall asleep with the noise and my partner also woke up in the middle of the night bothered by the sound. The mattress was kind of lumpy and I found myself feeling like I was going to roll off the side. I will say I am not that heavy of a person (mid size women) but a larger person may find it even more uncomfortable than me. No complimentary breakfast. Last time I was here was 7 years ago, for Spring Rockfish. We ate at the restaurant the night before and stayed in one of the rooms. Room was terrible, even back then. Mildew smell, dirty bathroom and rock had and sagging bed. The restaurant actually was good. Went their yesterday and they seemed to be in an ongoing renovation so many areas were not open to the general public. We just wanted to get a MD style seafood lunch and ate at the bar restaurant in the "parking garage. Was met by a very young hostess who was barely able to put three sentences together and seemed confused to seating us. After walking around the dining area aimlessly, I thanked her and we sat at the bar. The menu was a disappointment to say the least and expensive. Very little in the way of local MD seafood dishes (no rockfish, soft crabs, MD crab soup, etc). We had a beer and rolled out. After looking over the 14 pages of reviews for the Rod & Reel Resport, it is apparent this place is not looked upon favorably by their customers. I will never be back. read more

Absolutely awful Mother's Day brunch experience! We all paid $45.00 pp for a 12 pm seating. The food was terrible...dried out fried chicken, cold green beans, no iced tea, the fruit station was soggy and acidic (as though it had been made days in advance). The best part of my meal was the one biscuit I buttered. The food was nothing special. The omelet station was the only thing that seemed fresh. The ham was just boiled and the cod was soaked in what looked like butter without any seasoning. The salad bowl was half empty with dressing that was just sitting out without any temperature control and the food which was supposed to be hot didn't even have the burners lit underneath the serving trays...so everything was tepid. I asked for hot sauce and the bartender pointed and said i should ask the lady sitting at "that table" because she had the only bottle! What in the hell??! We were seated on the upper deck by the bar and the steps down to the seats were really scary for older folks. My mom would've fallen had I not had a firm hold of her hand. As soon as we sat at our table, the hostess of the restaurant fell off the bottom step and tumbled into our seats. I helped her to her feet! Everyone was whispering how dangerous those steps are! I went to the bar to get a mimosa...none. Bartender said we would have to walk to the south tent for one. We were not even certain HOW to walk to this tent area from where we were seated. We settled for one margarita at the bar for my Mom and we all bought cokes. My nephew mentioned how awful the coffee was and wondered how a resort doesn't even have decent coffee! My only positive experience was the lovely young lady who took my drink order- and she apologized profusely for the fiasco! I made my way to the ladies room only to be warned by two ladies in the bathroom that there was NO TOILET PAPER so she handed me a paper towel. Incredible. This entire "mother's day brunch" setup was nothing more than an unorganized mess and waste of money. I will never go back to this place- ever. It felt as though they oversold the event and just threw together the upper level seating and most definitely the food was terrible. Basically, I spent $45.00 for a buttered biscuit...next time we will be sure to secure reservations at a restaurant that takes more pride in their food and environment. read more

Don't waste your time and money here. I ended up getting a room at the Inn at the Herrington Harbour. One of the top 3 worst places to stay in my entire history of traveling. Decided to book here for a wedding I attended near the Inn at Herrington Harbor. Once I arrived, there was construction happening all over the place, and the staff isn't even welcoming. They have amateurs running front desk with minimal support behind the desk. Once I check in and head to my room, the room reeked of mildew, indicating lack of airflow and cleanliness. Not to mention, there's ABSOLUTELY no taxi/Uber/lyft services in the area and they do not serve breakfast. They had a local "taxi" but he never responds. Not even a variety of snacks available. What kind of "resort" is this? I headed down for a resolution, where they refused the refund as I didn't stay even 5 mins. The kid working said "it wasn't their problem" essentially, but he didn't mean that way. Just uneducated choice of words. That's when the another lady tried explaining and told the kid to stop. Also the kid said manager was out, when clearly he's in the back office. At the end they said there's no way I was getting my money back, to which I said I bet I would, and they didn't think so - claiming their "10 yrs in the hotel service work." Well, I got every single penny back and it took 5 mins for a resolution decision so jokes on them. I hope bigger corps like Hilton and Marriott builds a hotel around here. I wasn't expecting a Conrad or Waldorf level of service here, however, this was essentially a glorified motel 6 in the middle of nowhere with a typical middle of nowhere type service. First time staying at resort, wont be my last! There's a wing being added, so I'm looking forward to returning Summer 2025. The room was comfy & very clean. The ac ran quietly & didn't turn off during the night so the room remained comfortable. Front desk staff very polite & professional. I dined 2 restaurants on the resort: CBQ for breakfast & 1936 for dinner. Honestly no complaints. I spent my time lounging at the pool..under a cabana. I'm not a gambler, but Bingo. & slot machines were available. There's a trail nearby and North beach is less than a 5min drive away. It was a perfect get away. read more

The worst casino manager customer service. OMG even the Bartender has much better customer service skills than the floor manager. My bad experience took place tonight when someone came and sat at my husband's machine and took the ticket out with my husband's earnings plus his earnings. The manager came but she was repeating as a courtesy I will split the ticket because I am not supposed to do that but she was nicer to the other and very disrespectful to us in front of everybody on the floor. Can someone show her how to deal and protect customers privacy? Not appropriate. She was celebrating with the other people when we left. Is that professional? Had a terrible experience at Rod n reel Our initial room was foul smelling We changed rooms the following night and the new room that we were sent to was full of human waste in the toilet. Had to call House Keeping to come and clean the toilet. Television didn't work all night the first night. Fire alarm went off at 5:25 in the morning, which woke us up and we could not go back to sleep and had to go to a wedding the next day at which time we were exhausted due to the uncomfortable stay. Reached out to management for compensation, but was denied . Also, outside of the resort doesn't look very attractive due to large amounts of construction and unfinished work. read more

The highest score I can give my stay is "fair. "I attended a wedding and stayed for one night in order to avoid driving after the reception. I arrived shortly after lunch and was turned away because my room was not ready. I drove around town and looked around, then returned exactly at the two hour time period that I'd been told to return by the front desk. An unbelievable scene greeted me when I walked into the lobby. Several members of the wedding party, in full dress tuxedos, boutonnieres, and matching shirts were begging the front desk to give them their rooms so they could proceed to the ceremony! The front desk manager appeared unapologetic and did not even offer to give them keys and hold their luggage. At best, he appeared unsympathetic. This hotel is well located on the beach and I had an amazing room facing the band shell/stage and overlooking the entertainment area. I would return for a concert if a good act was playing and I could get the same room. Other than that, the breakfast was included in my stay and was delicious. The downside is that both for room check-in and for breakfast the staff took FOREVER to deliver. This was frustrating and unpleasant. Unless you have absolutely no time constraints or expectations of punctuality this would not be the best place to stay. : ( read more

Booked a room here for my husband. Didn't realize that I would be routed to an online booking website. Made the reservation in his name, with his card #, email, etc. When he arrived at 9:00 at the desk in the pouring rain, he was told there was no reservation. He handed over his credit card and paid for the night. Two charges on our Visa statement and neither the booking agency or the motel will give us back our money (and, honestly, it wasn't worth what they charged). Bad experience! read more

Honestly Rod & Reel does not even deserve 2 stars but for the fact the young lady at the front desk and gentleman valet were shining stars, I'm giving them each a star. All the other employees were rude, disinterested, unhelpful and did not want to be there, as I was told by an employee. For $285 a night, Rod & Reel should be ashamed. My girlfriends and I came for the Ginuwine concert. Both girlfriends live here in Chesapeake Beach. For as many years we've been friends, we've never stayed nor hung out here, now I understand why. Rooms are dated, trim coming off the walls, crumbs left on surfaces, spilled water left on the desk. The room has a musty, humid scent. Bathrooms need a desperate update. My girlfriend got stuck in the elevator on the 1st floor. The manager on duty saw it happen. There was no urgency to try to help her. He later laughed about it...insert side eye. Due to the location, Rod and Reel has so much potential. The night we stayed the hotel was fully booked. Hundreds of rooms for almost $300 per right, they need to get it together and start renovating! read more

Went to Rod n reel hotel for Mother's Day weekend . Was charged a cleaning fee for damaged linens. When I spoke with the manager, I was told he would send photos over via email. Have yet to receive photos of said damaged linens. Although they are doing construction everywhere and a lot was closed or a major inconvenience- like unable to walk between the hotel and casino or even the garage and hotel without having to go outside in what was a stormy weekend weather.... Black mold in shower areas, dead bug under the sink, broken ironing board , rude staff.... I do not recommend. read more

Please save yourself the nightmare and DONT. GO. The GM, Glen S. is incredibly rude and did not care for any of our complaints. As far as the place itself - everywhere you go - the front desk, hallways, and even the rooms were infested with mosquitos. We constantly had mosquitos coming from the bathroom. We received a call saying our room was ready and upon arriving to the room - the cleaning lady who seemed overworked was extremely upset we were there and said our room hadn't even begun to be cleaned. She stormed to the front desk where a gentleman came up to the room and asked my parents and I if we could leave or wait in the front, despite me being obviously 7 months pregnant with plenty of luggage in our hand, failing to even offer to offer any sort of help with the luggage. Luckily, he conceded to letting us leave our luggage in the room closet. We said we didn't mind waiting and he demanded me leave because it makes the cleaning lady feel rushed. I barely slept at night because there were extremely loud people above us, stomping and jumping around to the point where our enemies room shuck. I called twice to complain and nothing happened. This went on till 4AM. We had dinner at the bar located in their garage and that too was a TERRIBLE experience. Took forever to be served, flys everywhere, they left fly swatters at every table, food was cold, and they gave us plastic silverware which constantly snapped when we tried to cut up our food. The worst experience ever. There was construction that kept the small children awake. The whole building shook. The rooms were not clean. The managers were rude. There was no indoor pool. No continental breakfast, those were two selling points because we had young children. We had to maneuver around the construction workers to go in and out of building to go to the outdoor pool which was small and noisy. Only 3.5 feet deep all around. Report fees!! The managerial staff demonstrated a deficiency in their competence to fulfill their duties by neglecting to utilize suitable conflict de-escalation strategies. Moreover, the conflict was intensified by the Director's utilization of condescending remarks and a dismissive demeanor, whereas the front desk manager exhibited hostility and defensiveness. As a result, the security personnel attempted to physically expel me from the premises; however, his actions were impeded by the intervention of my spouse. I possess an extensive video recording capturing the entirety of the interaction, with the intention of submitting it to the corporate entity following the formal filing of a complaint. Additionally, the rooms also have a mildew odor. The gym floor was dirty and appeared to have not been swept in several weeks. My bathroom's towel bar was missing portions and the shattered portion was still visible, as though no attempt had been made to repair it. I would award this resort 0 stars if I could. read more

Came here with a friend. About 2 hrs from Bmore. Located on the water. Only went to casino, which consisted of two floors, but was very small and dark. Mirrors were on the wall to give an illusion of a larger space. Restaurant was adjacent with a decent menu. There is also a bingo hall. Undergoing construction to add more eateries and stores, which would be welcome relief. Also noticed that folks were coming into go charter fishing. Will be back to provide a more in depth review once the renovations are complete next spring/summer. read more

The hotel staff were nice when I called and checked in. We stayed on a Thursday night for a little getaway. When we looked out the window of our room, there is a building/parking garage being built. They do not let you know that at 7am they start construction (banging, pounding, yelling,etc). I'm sure they don't do it on the weekends but I'm not sure we left well before checkout. When I checked out, I complained and they acted like they were used to it and adjusted my bill. They say it's on their website but it's clever marketing stating the "phases" of improvement. read more

First off - This is not a "Resort". This is a motel dressed as a resort. With all the trappings of a resort on paper - bayside view, large renovated rooms, the promise of breakfast, a sign in the elevator for a $95 facial... once you arrive - with a confusing array of tape and construction and limited walk space from the parking lot to the resort - you will see. 1. had to ask a parked officer where the resort actually was and I was about 200 feet from it. But the drive is blocked off for construction with no actual signage letting guests know HOW to get to check in. Even though I was a guest, the officer told me to park in the garage... which is a walk on a blustery evening ... only for me to ask the front desk the valet price and her tell me "it's complimentary". 2. The front desk has zero energy besides young people with pleasant smiles and cute nails. Hospitality tho? Nope. If you're an avid traveler and customer service consultant like me, you know hospitality everywhere is working for the guests. Smiles when you enter. Engaging conversation. Anything to help you feel your $200/night stay was worth it. NO! Not this place. The valets are all sitting on their phones. You pull up - you look for the valet. The concierge stares at the computer screen like its telling her to take her next breath. They seem young and untrained and like it's everyone's first "reel" job. 3. Food -- no. Do not eat here. I tried 3 items. Calamari. Crab Reuben. Chicken wings. None of them were good enough for those prices. The chef should be fired. Seriously. Calamari was greasy as all get out on a soggy bed of greens. Crab reuben was more thousand island than crab - I couldn't even taste crab meat. I ate half tossed the remainder. Fries were soggy. I'm not sure how you do that but ... they just flopped. Chicken wings were dry. Dry. Dry chicken meat. It's the hardest to swallow. I couldn't believe 60 bucks and 3 dishes and it was all bad. 4. Let's chat about the people working: -Valets were the kindest. Once you get their attention they will engage and look alive -Concierge Manager went straight to threatening to call the police due to a misunderstanding about a one day room extension that my client called and made and wasn't asked for his credit card. She rudely told me she didn't know who worked with him, and didn't care who paid but she was going to call the police and have my truck blocked. Now. I can see if someone in management escalates to this due to a misunderstanding that goes awry or if I'd disrespected her. But - this young lady started there. And ... that's what racism looks and feels like. You don't start at threatening to call the police on a customer. You start with apologizing that YOUR staff failed to do their due diligence and book the reservation appropriately by requesting payment. What an inconvenience to be leavIng and have an unexpected $200 bill. (They also charge you a resort fee of $20/night - but they don't tell you that when you check in.. I think Jasmine the same person who checked me in and out didn't think she'd be there when I left and have to break that to me). In Vegas they tell you - up front - that will be charged at checkout. Since someone else booked my room- I had no idea the cost of their fee. (Again not worth it) I sensed that Taylor was frustrated with working around and with and for soo many blacks. Without troubleshooting the issue she jumped to her fear that there may be an unfounded altercation or that I'd run off and fail to pay. Perhaps she thought by saying it I would be scared and just throw her $200. But I wasn't scared. I told her she was being ridiculous and called my client. He paid. Taylor couldn't apologize. She was not sorry. She is a drama creator and is not equipped to work in hospitality nor with diverse populations. If she's managing this resort- that's why it feels like a HS football game -"Breakfast" is store brought muffins and hard boiled eggs. The coffee is pretty good. The waffle maker is broken and only comes out on some days, not all. The kitchen staff are rogue and garrish and seem impatient. They also sit in the kitchen's open doorway complaining about personal issues and issues with their boss right within earshot. - The restaurant host purposefully didn't make eye contact with me after I stood at the desk for a while. So I went to the bar to eat. Where that bartender said someone else would serve me and said maybe she's in the bathroom and then started to walk off and find her ... I stopped her and asked if SHE could at least provide me a menu. Like. WTH kind of - I'm training the staff on basic service etiquette at a RESORT?! She was like "oh. Yeea" (no water and silverware.. but a menu). The slot machines were tragically dismal and very very sad to see how ppl are packed tight like sardines just to lose their money. I gave $3 to that space and bounced. This place needs a lot of changes in staffing and environment. read more

The suites facing the beach is a great view but the rooms are definitely outdated and small no microwave in the suite room is just lazy and cheap ‍ the carpet was dingy the bathroom was very outdated the toilet barely flushes the walls are paper thin. After getting lied too by the manager at the hotel G. Spanier I am writing this review. We booked a room for two days, on getting there the carpet was damp, mold all over the sliding door, mold and dust in our air vent and not to mention the roach I killed on our wall. Spoke to The manager and he said he will fix the issues and that we have a choice to either stay in that room or transfer to another room. We decided to stay in that room and take the comp because our family was on the same floor and we were running late to a rehearsal dinner already. We didn't even have time to change room. When checking out we asked for a bill, manager stated that we will get it through email. Okay no worries. When I received the email it showed a credit for $44.00. Considering the room was $239. I would have never thought that was the compensation Mr. Spanier gave!! We called days ago and left a voicemail and he never called back. We called today and he told us he has no recollection of ever saying he will comp our room. So here are some of pictures that was only worth $44.00. Nice location on the water, but the view was partially blocked by the bandshell and event tent. No construction activity on the weekend but everything smelled like cement dust. The pool is located across the parking lot on the top floor of the "gaming building". Not very convenient for a "resort" for which we paid a $20 resort fee. We went for our anniversary and had a nice room with a balcony overlooking the water. We noticed there was only one bar of soap in the bathroom and the sink stopper didn't work. After reporting it to a friendly housekeeper, the problems were resolved. The person at the front desk was not as nice--she acted annoyed when I asked why the pool was not open. She said it would be fixed the next day. The following morning, I asked again and she had a mechanic come over. She made me feel like I was bothering her. It is her job and she obviously didn't care about our being inconvenienced. The parking is terrible due to renovation. We had to keep using vaket parking. Went here once. The concierge isn't all that welcoming. He was very robotic. Also he didn't tell us about the free breakfast. I only found out thru a friend who was staying there too. Once I went down it was over and it was about 10. The room was decent. Nothing special outside of a typical hotel room. The TV service was very disappointing. They use satellite. The connection kept going in and out. When the signal decided to come back on, the audio would decide to go out. I don't know why a hotel would decide to use satellite being right next to the water and wind seeing that satellite tv goes out anytime the wind blows. Our view from the balcony was the best thing about the room. The casino which is literally 3 skips away from the hotel was ok. Very small they use mirrors to give the illusion that it's bigger. If you're drunk you might walk into the mirror thinking it's the rest of the room. The bartender lady was very friendly. The food and drinks were impressive. The stay at this "resort" was--at best--a 1 star rating. For starters there wasn't a refrigerator in room like the website guaranteed. The chair in room was already broken upon arrival. We also requested towels that weren't present at arrival, they never arrived, and we had to request them again hours later. To make matters worse the front Desk was not answering the phone and they were hard to get in touch with when trying to voice concerns. Another main concern we had was that carpet glue & debris got all over our belongings; the "resort" did not attempt to render aid to help remove it. A staff member said they were going to contact someone who could assist in the problems we were experiencing with our room/service that would occur at the same time the towels would finally be delivered, however no one ever returned with towels or help.
