Hotel Bar Review: Central Pennsylvania Hilton…read more My reviews are different. I do not announce myself or tell anyone my purpose; I am simply here to provide a review! Yesterday, when I went to court, there was no "partisan ferocity." I believe that is what made me so upset--my hearing had to be rescheduled, leaving me with extra time to hang around Central Pennsylvania. On the plus side, it gave me time to leave a few beautiful reviews. I walked right over to the Hilton because I didn't want to waste the parking I had already paid for. I went in to order an Old Fashioned. I visited this place before the New Year and had one then, but it seems nothing is ever quite like the first time. This was my third time having this drink here. The first time was amazing; it was made to absolute perfection, and I fell in love with it. As I have said in my previous reviews, I don't drink to get drunk--I drink for the taste. That is exactly what I was looking for this time, but the drink was watered down. I couldn't taste the citrus, the bitterness, or the sweetness I expected. I don't know if it was the atmosphere or the mood, but I attribute the quality to the bartender. He gave me no eye contact while I was inside the establishment. I tried to initiate small talk, and still, there was no eye contact, so I place the disappointment on him. The other staff members were very nice, which was great. I was there midday before the lunch hour, which made the environment more enjoyable. I turned a negative into a positive by sitting outside to enjoy the nice weather and a beautiful cigar. (If you want to find a good cigar spot, check out my other reviews to see where I normally get mine!) I tried to pair this drink with my cigar, but it disappointed me; it did not compliment the cigar at all. It didn't do what I needed it to do, which was provide a great taste. My Ratings: Atmosphere: 4.7/5 Bartender Experience: 2.7/5 Drink Quality/Consistency: 2.5/5 It is all about consistency. As a customer, I feel the experience should always be top-tier. I hope my review helps you make your decision on visiting this establishment.

The sliding bathroom door is positioned right by the shower, so if you turn the shower on before getting in and don't have a shower cap, your hair can get wet. Some of the shower products were also only half full. The grab-and-go breakfast had limited options, with many of the sandwiches containing pork, and some of the bread looked dry. A few tea boxes were also empty. Overall, it's a nice place with a few small details that could be improved.

But those are about the only redeeming qualities. The first room I checked into, the HVAC unit sounded like a jet plane getting ready to takeoff. The second room had an odor about it - - a mixture of old smoke and the ozone treatment they used to try to purify the air. Within 30 minutes I felt like someone was standing on my chest because the air quality was that horrible. Moreover, both of those rooms were so small that you could not open the hotel room door if the bathroom door was open. Room three put me up on the 10th floor that was more spacious, but the HVAC unit had to run constantly. It was either on or off and when you turned it on for heat, the dust smell was overpowering. I had to leave it off overnight, so my allergies wouldn't trigger an asthma attack and I woke up to a 62° room. If I tried to sit in the chair by the HVAC unit, the musty smell was overpowering. Let's talk about housekeeping now. They did come to my room every day and pick and chose what they did. They never made the bed, would take some towels, but not others. But they did empty the trash. The fitness room appears pretty solid. However, pick your equipment wisely as some of the treadmills are on the same runway as that HVAC unit noise canceling headphones were definitely in order. The staff I encountered were friendly enough, but they were obviously annoyed with me for complaining. Checking out was definitely the most pleasurable part of my stay.

Extremely disappointing experience at TownePlace Suites Harrisburg. We had a confirmed two-queen…read moreroom for our family of five from Aug. 7-9. After a 5-hour drive, we arrived around 11 p.m. with our children and were told the hotel had oversold and our room was no longer available. We received NO call, voicemail, or email notifying us. The manager, Mark Thompson, claimed he called us, but there is no record of a call or voicemail. He then claimed he told our friend staying at the hotel, who confirmed the next day that he never did. Even if he had, she was not on our reservation, and it is completely inappropriate to rely on another guest to notify us about changes to our reservation. Around midnight, we were finally offered a smaller room. With exhausted children, no guaranteed alternative hotel, and prepaid Hersheypark plans the next morning, we accepted out of necessity. After finally getting the kids to bed around 1 a.m., someone loudly banged on our door and attempted to open it TWICE. The kids were terrified. When I called the front desk, they dismissed it as "teenagers." We also found what appeared to be mold on our pillows, the pool was out of service, and our friends' room smelled strongly of cat urine. The manager's response afterward was essentially, "You chose to stay, so no refund." Arriving near midnight with children after a 5-hour drive and accepting the only room offered is hardly a meaningful "choice." Marriott escalated our complaint to the property's management company, and we are awaiting a response. Between the oversold reservation, lack of notification, conflicting explanations from management, cleanliness and safety concerns, and dismissive response, this was one of our worst hotel experiences. Families should use caution when booking here.

We had a 1920's awards dinner and the Penn Harris staff got involved. I loved seeing everyone's take on the "Roaring 20's." It really transformed you back into that era. We were given a tour of the newly renovated rooms and were told the history of the Penn Harris Hotel . They have a display case of Penn Harris artifacts and a large mural honoring its history is in the lobby. If you look close you can see a picture of the original hotel in one of its sections. I was really impressed with the beautifully updated bar, (also playing along) staffed with the best, straight out of the 1920's! There was a live pianist as entertainment, a gentleman with a long history of playing there!. And lastly, a five course dinner each perfectly paired with wine! First course: Sparkling Rosé paired with a focaccia bread and whipped butter with a side of garlic spread or tomato jelly. Second Course: A dry Red wine and the best salad I've ever tasted. It had squash, Brussels sprouts, chickpeas, and craisins, on arugula. Maybe some light oil and a sprinkle of salt... it was so light, fresh, and flavorful! Third course: Semi Dry wine. Shredded Brussels sprouts with bacon jam and a balsamic vinaigrette. Fourth: the same wine with the main course of Roasted duck, mashed potatoes and carrots Fifth: White wine paired with a deconstructed tiramisu! I don't even like tiramisu and I ate mine and half of someone else's. I don't think there was one thing put in front of me that I didn't like. The Penn Harris Hotel chef and staff really outdid themselves with this event. I cannot wait to see what the Historic Penn Harris has in store for us in the future!

Everything in room was the cleanest I've ever seen at a hotel (I stay in many every year for work). Location: Easy to get to hotel, no loud noises at no guy or in the morning. Safe and off main road so no people or cars nearby the hotel parking lot which made it feel even more safe. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone! I'll be back for sure next time I'm in the area!

Having a good sized fridge was helpful! Breakfast is decent - I appreciated the build your own breakfast sandwich approach which is a little different than most included hotel breakfasts. The kiddos enjoyed the waffles. The staff has been friendly and helpful. For the first 4 nights of our stay it was fairly quiet, but I think that's just because there weren't many people staying near our room. The last two nights we realized that if someone is in the hallway it sounds like they're in the room with you, and you can hear the people above you and beside you moving around in their rooms. So it doesn't appear a lot of effort to soundproof was made. Another thing to note is that while they have laundry machines available for use in the hotel, they only take quarters. From the noise aspect alone we would probably choose to stay somewhere else, although with ear plugs it was manageable. The hotel is new and clean and bright, though, and was convenient located for us. We did appreciate a lot of the things within the room (the double blinds, the closet layout, the kitchenette and so on) but having rest disturbed by noise pollution is just not the best.
