I scheduled an appointment with this practice because it was close to my home and I figured since they were affiliated with UF it would be good. To start off, it took about three weeks for an open appointment. They told me to arrive about 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork on the day of my appointment. My appointment time was the first one of the morning, but following instructions, I arrived early. I went to open the door and it was locked. No one was there. I waited for 15 minutes and someone finally came to open the door. What was the point of telling me to come early if they keep the door locked until the minute they officially open?! So I fill out my paperwork and wait and wait..and wait a little more. Shocking since I was the first appointment of the day. I'm finally in an exam room, the nurse takes my vitals and then I wait for the doctor. I had a couple things I wanted to discuss since I had not visited a family physician for a while. The doctor comes in and we start talking about my questions/concerns. She stops me and says "One thing at a time, we can't cover everything today". I absolutely did NOT have a lengthy list or anything major to discuss! Talking a few minutes longer she is almost positive that I'm pregnant and wants me to do a urine test. I knew there was absolutely no way I was pregnant, but I said whatever and peed in a cup. Guess what, I wasn't pregnant. After 15 minutes of accomplishing nothing, she orders a bunch of labs, which I was sent to Quest to have done a few days later. Here is where things get crazy. I received a voicemail from the nurse rattling off the results of my labs in technical terms. At the end of the voicemail she says I am being referred to UF Hematology/Oncology and they will be calling me to schedule an appointment! I am not a medical professional, so I had no idea what the results she rattled off meant and I was terrified to hear that I was being referred to an oncologist (doctor specializing in cancer). That is not something you leave on a voicemail message. I quickly call the office and ask to speak to the doctor. They would not let me speak to the doctor, but had the nurse call me back. She went a little more in depth about the results, but I still didn't really understand what the heck was going on. Hematology/Oncology called and the first appointment was a month out, which I was freaking out about. I needed answers. I called UF physicians to schedule a follow up visit so I could ask her to re test everything in the meantime just to make sure there wasn't a mistake. Her response was no and that hematology would run their own tests at my upcoming visit. I thought this was absurd, just order another round of labs to confirm the results. For one month I was extremely stressed out and terrified that I had something seriously wrong. When I finally went to my appointment with the specialist, it turned out to be a lab error. All of my stress and anxiety could have been prevented if the doctor would have re tested like I had requested. Avoid this practice like the plague.

After arriving in the office almost 2 hours early, i was told (after the almost 2 hour wait for my appt time) that they could not give me the exam because the Medivan driver was not waiting in the office for me. HOW INCONVENIENT!!! (not even considering the fast and mineral junk i endured for the 3 days of prep)...then a few weeks later i started getting bills from their office for a NO SHOW! The Orthopedic Institute (and physical therapy center) in Alachua is a blessing to those of us in…read morethis city and surrounding areas. Rather than having to drive to their main location on Newberry Road in Gainesville, we have physicians as well as a complete physical therapy center right here in Alachua. My review today is about the physical therapy center. I have been to the Center for various things dating back to 2013. Chris, the physical therapist, meets with you during your first visit to do an intake assessment. He has a wonderful and caring personality and talks with you to learn more about your injury and your needs. He also discusses your goals to see where you want to be. After doing his assessment he develops a physical therapy plan for you and you typically start your treatment that day (at least I have). My treatment plan usually requires coming to the office twice a week. When you enter, you sign in and then one of the physical therapy assistants will get you started. I won't discuss specific treatment plans because everyone is different but I will say that the office is not overly crowded, you do get personalized attention, and it is a fun atmosphere. I enjoy talking with the staff as well as the other clients. So, if you are ever in need of physical therapy, I suggest you give the Alachua center of the orthopedic institute a try. They can get you on the track to good health and help you meet or exceed your goals.
