They went above and beyond testing out our transmission, We had an engine light come on and had smelled a burning odor and we where pulling a heavy load. They said that the light code was for a air intake sensor. They explained everything very well, how we should drive the rest of the way to help our transmission. They got us back on the road in an hour or two. They said "your transmission is fine, don't let anyone take advantage of you on the way there. If your engine gets hot, pull over and let it cool down." We have since had our regular mechanic check it out again and they were right. Our transmission is fine. I am so happy when I find an honest mechanic!

I said don't do the service as my local mechanic can do it far cheaper. They called me back later and said they were going to charge half of the labor anyway. My 2 star deduction is because of the company's "We don't care about the customer" process with their website. Let me explain. I needed to get new tires before a Saturday trip. On Wednesday I went to the Mr. Tire website, selected this location, and chose the tires I needed (Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus). It didn't let me pay for them, but I was able to make an appointment for 8am Friday. My wife and I scheduled a full day of errands in preparation for having the car ready by 10am. On Friday morning, I was at the shop at 8am for my appointment. Austin greeted me with a smile and warm hello. I let him know who I was, and he confirmed my info. Then the news... He would need to order my tires... WHAT?!?! That is when Austin informed me of how the website works. Even though the website knew the tires I wanted and let me make the appointment, the company does not differentiate if tires are in stock or not. He apologized profusely about how the website works. He said he could get the tires that same day by 2pm. However, that meant our entire day of running errands with shot. Our day now consisted of making sure we would be back here in the middle of the afternoon instead of in another town where we needed to be. I can not fathom how the company carries so little about their customers. They should have had the tires in stock at my appointment time or informed me that the tires would only be there at a certain time after I showed up to confirm that I really wanted them. Regardless, the company had no intention of actually keeping the appointment and let me make. As promised, austin had the tires there at 2pm and they were on quickly. They put my car on the alignment machine, but it wasn't needed, so they didn't charge for an alignment. I love and appreciate that honesty. I have mixed feelings about returning because of the terrible company policies. Austin and the other employees were great. But Mr. Tire as a company sucks.

He's runs the show. This place looks like it's been here forever. It's an incredibly cool place if you are into that sort of thing. Word around Danville is that he's the most reasonable starter/alternator guy around & he completely went through the starter on my old backhoe for next-to-nothing. He even built up the nose cone where the metal had been worn away which saved me additional cost. Turnaround time was about a day & he called to tell me it was ready exactly when he said he would. I usually go to Randy's Auto Electric when I'm in Durham since I work in Durham but I frequently go to Danville so I figured I'd try Long's. I'd definitely return here if I wasn't going to Durham. Oh, if you drive a Camaro, Firebird, or low-riding vehicle, you WILL scrape pulling in there so park on the street.
