I traveled a few hours to have my Rat spayed with Dr Dickey back in October. He did an excellent job. The incision was one of the best I've ever seen. The staff was competent , compassionate and communicative. Upon pick up, I was brought into a room where we discussed everything. I would like to start out by saying Dr. Dickey's staff are excellent. Very friendly and helpful. The problem itself was with Dr. Dickey. My Ozzy who is a monk parakeet (aka Quaker parrot) had a accident with a door and fell. Dr. Dickeys staff were able to fit us in immediately. I was over the top upset about my parrots accident and definitely not exactly 100 percent thinking clearly. Dickey, had me take Ozzy out so he could examine him. Then said he will do some X-rays to see if anything was broken. He did not put Ozzy to sleep for this. Which is NOT good practice. I could hear my boy SCREAMING as this man has him splayed open not even knowing if anything was broken. Thankfully there wasn't any broken bones.. he wanted to keep him over night to make sure he will eat and keep a eye on him. 300$ deposit. No problem. Said he would call the following morning. Following morning no call. My husband called to get a update. Sounded like everything was good. Said they would call in the afternoon for update. Afternoon update dickey said my bird wasn't responding and he thought he may have some brain damage. My heart sunk. Went to go check on him and see what was going on. While I was waiting in the lobby (forever I might add) there were two couples there with larger parrots. One lady with a Amazon parrot told me that Dr. Dickey is horrible with small breed parrots. She told me he does not know how to sedate small parrots and because of this she had to put down her sick Quaker parrot who had tumors. Definitely things started clicking in my head. He didn't sedate my poor guy for X-rays and I found that wrong. Anyway.. I was brought back into the room to wait some more and finally a staff member brought Ozzy to me. She told me he was eating a little seed here and there.. but they had to syringe feed him as well and she gave him fluids via syringe as well. Told me about his meds and when to give them. How to fix his food for hand feeding ext. She actually was more informative then Dr. Dickey. We went out to pay our bill and yet again wait. Front desk said she literally had to wait for Dr. Dickey to hit a button on the computer to okay the bill lol wtf!! They were not allowed to bug him either. So we were waiting for at least a half hour and then he wanted us to come back to the room. He told me that he thinks Ozzy has brain damage and he wasn't responding like a "normal parrot" and with luck he will be ok and still live a somewhat normal life. Dude, my bird don't know you firstly and was scared outta his mind of you! Of course he isn't responding. That was basically it. Paid our bill and went home. Here's the WORST part! We get home and Ozzy is happy to see his pal. I get ready to give him some of his meds and notice there is fresh blood under his wing!!! That doctor didn't say anything about this! He had a bone protruding. Ever so slightly. Something happened to him at that place and he failed to tell me! I fixed him up with a pet safe sealant and nursed him for probably over a week. His beak was bruised (which he also said nothing about) I know that definitely was from his fall, and also the reason he wasn't eating on his own. Eventually and with lots of love and care my boy is back to his normal self EXCEPT he still can't fly. Due to that doctors negligence! Pretty sure he has torn ligaments. He is talking normal and everything else. No brain damage. Do not, I repeat do not bring your small parrot here!!! He doesn't know how to properly care for them!! PPS. Also.. I emailed him with my complaints with no reply. About sums up his professionalism. read more

Dr Dickey and staff are amazing! They saved our cat and we are so grateful. We were very scared as our cat was lethargic, had no appetite and was hiding. I went to see Dr Dicky for my Indian ringnecks eye. Turned out he was fine and doctor recommended Harrison's high potency pellets and some vitamin water for my 5 month old bird. I was told by the doctor and the lady who checked me out to add it to my birds water everyday. A month later my bird passed away very suddenly. He was only 6 months old. I did some research and digging and found out the Harrisons high potency was not to be giving with other vitamins. Additionally the vitamin water was not supposed to be given daily! I did not think to research this beforehand because I thought I could trust a vet who does this for a living!! read more

Dr Dickey has the patience of a saint. I've never known a veterinarian to be so gentle, knowledgeable , understanding and explaining as him He explained everything so I could understand the procedures regarding our dog as well as our ferrets. I was in total agreement to why they needed testing .He made it very comfortable for our pets and understandable for us as the 'Moms n Dads' of our fur babies. I highly recommend this office. We've been taking out bird to RRVH for many years. The vet, Dr. Dickey, is incredible with her, is an avian certified vet and gives us complete confidence in every aspect of her care. His handling of our bird is completely compitent while showing compassion and care. The staff, from the reception counter to the nursing staff, are excellent. They have always handled us quickly and efficiently. Each of them is able to provide the information we need or get it for us quickly. Called from a salon out of state to verify a client's rabies, the woman who answered did not address herself or the business at all. I told her I was looking to verify a cats rabies, she simply asked what the cat's name was, which it was a super generic name, and said "yep, she's good". I asked if she needed the Pet parents info and she said no. I asked what clinic I was calling (I was only given a phone number to them) she just laughed over the phone and said "you called me silly!" And wouldn't tell me until the third time asking( super weird). This place is super unprofessional and refusing to provide us with correct information can be very dangerous to Us, other animals and themselves. read more

Then I asked for a quote to remove a cyst from my dogs side and it was so overpriced it was ridiculous. Never take your animal here! I had my mastiff neutered last week which was 180 dollars. Understandable since he is a big boy. Well they sent us home with no e collar since they didn't have one big enough and told me to just keep an eye on him. Four days later he licked his staples out in the middle of the night. I took him back in to get fixed up and they tried charging me 210 dollars. 30 dollars more than the original neuter! But somehow they found an e collar big enough this time around? Makes no sense and I feel completely ripped off that they would send me in the first time around with nothing. This vet is definitely in it for the money and could care less about his patients! read more

Mr. Dickey butchered my Mastiffs feet years ago. They never healed. He 'thought' my baby had 'internal warts'. I would think after he butchered one foot and found nothing that he would leave the other foot alone. But oh no. My baby only lived to be 3, and had to be put down because his feet never healed and he could not walk. I hope this man rots in hell. I refuse to even refer to him as a 'vet'. They never helped me at all. I kept calling and calling, no one ever returned my calls. He butchered him, charged me a fortune, then washed his hands of any complications. read more

Dr. Ron Dickey and his staff make for not only the best veterinary establishment in the Southern Oregon area, but the greatest veterinary hospital that I have ever been to. Dr. Dickey shows vast care to your pets all the while maintaining a pristine level of professionalism. I have taken my animals to many veterinarians in the past but never have I actually come across an animal hospital that simply cares so much. Also, it is the only veterinary hospital in the area that is avian certified. The cherry on top is that even the prices are so fair and in my opinion very cheap for the high level of care. Overall lousy unresponsive vet. Regularly makes you wait 1+ hours despite your schedule appointment. Made me desperately call his office for 2 weeks trying to get an appointment or answers while my crippled chicken suffered. He operated on one of her legs and straightened it out but it was completely non functional. He didn't tell us that a chicken cannot live one one leg. After a year of jumping around on it she dislocated the other leg (knee) which he first misdiagnosed as a sprain and then misdiagnosed as a dislocated hip. Despite the fact that I paid an emergency fee to bring her in at 5:15pm after they strung he along for 2 weeks he didn't think it necessary to actually do an x-Ray and see what was really going on. He wanted $1,000 for an additional surgery. I took her to an avian specialist in Portland that only sees birds and operated on many chickens. She said there was no way it would stay in place and with all the other issues she had with the other leg we wouldn't even be able to stabilize her and get her out of pain to live in a swing. Even if they would have done a surgery it would have been less than $300. Why didn't he warn us about chickens living on one leg? Or even have the decency to return a phone call when I told him it was getting worse. Thanks for prescribing aspirin for an extremely painful knee injury. At least a real vet was able to get her some actual pain medicine and Valium to ease her suffering during her last days. You should be ashamed. Seems like you're more interested in collecting your inflated fees than helping animals. read more

I'm not a fan of this vet or office. Feel this vet is in it for the $$. He botched a simple dog neuter and then the staff blamed my dogs pain (he was bleeding at the incision site and developed a hematoma) on being a ""wimp". Again I'm not a fan. read more

Today I took my 2 large dogs into this clinic. My appointment was at 3pm, I arrived 25 minutes early to be sure I could compete all the paperwork, which was done way before my appointment time. At 3:10 I was led to exam room 3 and told I would be seen after the gentleman with the bird. By 3:35 I was a bit concerned but stayed patient. By 3:50 I had not seen anyone since being put in the room 40 minutes prior. I left the exam room to make sure I had my appointment time correct, which I did. I was told I would be seen shortly, as the man with the bird was almost done (and that he had arrived half an hour late) and I expressed my need to leave by 4pm ( I had set aside 1hrs for check ups on 2 healthy dogs). I returned to Exam 3, was met with a tech who I also told I had been waiting for over 45 minutes. She told me "we had an emergency come in before you", contrary to what I had just been told by the receptionist. It was now 3:57 and she informed me that she will take temperatures then I will wait for the doctor. Again I expressed my now-rush, to which I was told I could wait or leave, so I left. I was not charged and didn't not get to see the veterinarian in my 1 hour and 25 minutes in this office. read more
