Barley after his eye removal surgery

First, I will say that my dog's life was saved. And for that, I am eternally grateful. My pug Barley was hit by a truck and suffered catastrophic injuries to the right side of his face. His eyeball was out of his skull and not able to be saved. This vet is by no means affordable. And we were only able to get his surgery done because a friend of ours kindly helped us pay for his surgery. But, if you can afford it, they know what they're doing. What I do not like about this vet is the $500 deposit before they will do anything for your pet. We were told over the phone the exam fee was 250$. But after we arrived we were told they would need a 500$ deposit before they could even give him pain medication. And they have an extremely long wait time and honestly a lack of communication. The woman at the front desk was an angel and very kind. I kept having to ask her for updates on my dog because we were there for six or seven hours and we were not being told what was happening by any other staff. The building is clean and the waiting room is a pleasant place to wait. The vet did an amazing job removing Barleys eye and sent him home with plenty of antibiotics and pain medications. The part that frustrated me was that we were there most of the day waiting, and other animals were coming in constantly that were deemed more critical than my dog, yet his eyeball was literally hanging out out of his head, and he was bleeding from his opposite ear. To me that seems pretty critical. The surgery itself only took about an hour, so I do not understand why we had to wait there all day. But at the end of the day, they saved my dog's life. Veterinary care is not cheap. And I know that. But I do wish that more vets would work with people on perhaps billing payments once a month. They would get so much more business that way. We are by no means rich people. So a sudden 2,000+ dollar surgery was very difficult to maneuver. But we made it work.

I am deeply grateful to SOVSC and Dr. Russell Fugazzi for saving my dog Gus' life. Gus was experiencing some coughing that would not go away. My veterinarian, Dr. Heaslet at The Cheerful Vet suggested a chest x-ray and we learned Gus had a large mass in his chest. Dr. Heaslet made a referral request to SOVCS and I was able to get Gus into see a specialist very quickly. Gus was seen by Dr. Fugazzi on a Wednesday for a consult and CT scan. He is an excellent communicator and explained that the mass could be a tumor, a cyst or some type of irritation from inhaling a foxtail. If it was a tumor, he suggested removing the caudal lobe of Gus' lung. He spoke to me with empathy and answered all my questions knowledgeably. We had a wait for a radiologist report, but by Friday (just two days later) Gus was in surgery to have a Grade 1 Pulmonary Carcinoma removed from his left lung. Dr. Fugazzi is a skilled surgeon with years of experience. Thank goodness, because Gus' tumor was very large-- it was 2 pounds! I don't know how he was able to maneuver that tumor out of Gus' little body. The surgery went very well and, about 36 hours later, Gus was able to come home. I brought him back to the hospital one time within the first 12 hours of being home because his breathing was too rapid. Dr. Weaver saw Gus, checked his vitals and gave me options about how to proceed. She was also great--patient, smart, down to earth. The whole team: the patient coordinators, the veterinary techs, and the DVM's are all fantastic at SOVCS. I would recommend them to anyone who needed excellent, compassionate, medical care for their pet!

First night Jax was back with me in the hotel.

My (sort of) regular vet is Jessica Voellm at A Street Animal Clinic in Ashland, but, since I do…read morenot live in Ashland anymore and also had a bigger emergency, I came here... Also because they take the Care Credit card. I have a two year old Siberian Husky who was vomiting very consistently, wouldn't eat, and couldn't even keep water down. I was truly convinced he was dying. I went on their website, and made an appointment around 6:30 AM, for their next available vet at 9:45 which was Alexander Hendricks. They called right when they opened at 8 to confirm my appointment, and asked me some questions about what was happening with the dog. She told me I could go in around 9 or so to fill out the paperwork, and then they could see if he could see us a few minutes early (I think she offered because she could probably hear that I had been crying for the last 2 hours). So we showed up early, filled out the sheet and waited a while to have our name called. We did, the dog got weighed and everything, and we sat in the room for the guy. When he came in we both explained everything, what his vomit and his poop was like, his energy level, everything. He got very worried when I said he wouldn't keep water down. He said there could be a blockage in his intestines, and if that were the case, he would need surgery. That drove me and my man's anxiety through the roof. Not just because of the money, but we just don't want to have to put Shadow through that. He took some X-rays, and pulled them up on the computer and let us come up to see and he explained what organs were what, and what the shadowy spots could mean, etc. He said it looked like there was some air in his stomach, so it might just be as simple as some gastric upset and that he just needs to toot. He sent the pictures to a radiologist to see what the spots could mean, because he couldn't tell for himself and wanted to be sure. He had us wait and wait, until he comes out and says "Ok. No blockage." That was a HUGE relief, and we could tell he was relieved too. One thing about Hendricks, he looks and sounds like he has that monotone personality like maybe he doesn't really care about the animals, and he's just... there. But I think he really does. We like how to-the-point he was with us. Like, 'well, it could be this really awful thing, or it could be this smaller thing, but I really can't tell you which is more likely right now. We'll start off by exhausting these possibilities to save you some peace of mind and money. And if it's worse, we will cross that bridge later.' So, he needed to have an IV fluid drip, and get a catheter of his anti-nausea medication. We left him there from about noon until 5:30. He was still exhausted, but tried to get excited to see us! He ate food when we got home and we were so happy to see that. He hasn't vomited at all since we brought him home (took him in 7/18, today is 7/21) and now he's eating more regularly. Not quite as much as he usually gets, but enough to really keep him going, and he's drinking fluids now, too. He is very good about taking his pills, so that's a relief. I don't believe that animals should be medicated, but I know it has helped keep him from vomiting. I really like Hendricks, he's a good guy, was very good to us, and nice to my dog. Will definitely be back here (hopefully not soon)! PS: The one minus star is that they sell Royal Canin and Science Diet. I can't believe that even in this day and age where raw food for pets is on the rise, they would sell that garbage, haha.

I said it's not her teeth . She can't swallow. And acted like the food was hurting her mouth. I go back to my Primary. Cheerful Vet. She cleaned her teeth. Cat still can't swallow. I tried showing her a video of the cat trying to swallow. I told her another retired vet had said the issue is further down. She would not listen. Finally has the traveling ultrasound come to her office. They put my 17 year old cat under again. Shave her. She had a mass by her heart pushing on her esophagus.!! Inept veterinary care by emergency vet and Anette at Cheerful vet. I had my cat euthanized. Cheerful vet paid $100.00 for cremation because she was wrong and put my cat and my wallet through unnecessary pain. Sad that these people are taking advantage of pet lovers at a very critical point in their lives.

They took such good care of him!!! Wish I came here sooner. Even cleaned his ears for him. Kendall was able to get me in right away. Cannot thank you enough. Many months ago I brought my cat in with a hematoma in her ear, the emergency hospital could have…read moredone the surgery that morning but the senior vet said he could do the surgery. I went to pick her up and was guided into a room with a young women vet who without my permission did the surgery she was out of vet school 3 months. I was told the vet watched her but he said he had to leave early to take his wife to the hospital. it was illegal for him to let her do the surgery by herself. He said he watched her the entire time. THEN WHY DID HE NOT DO IT HIMSELF IF HE HAD THAT KIND OF TIME I HAD NOT GIVEN PERSMIISION FOR ANHYONE ELSE TO DO THE SUGERY. I went back again I said my cat is not well, They said she won't have to eat or drink water for three days NOT TRUE one of the vet assistance was like a mad dog ( I love dogs but this was nuts) staring me down there to protect her and agreed. At three am my cat was drinking tons of water I rushed her to emergency where the doctor said she had almost no electro lites and was trying to supply them by drinking she could not! she was on deaths door. She said did they not give her an IV this was wrong who monitored this cat? I said I don't know when I called the vet he would not refund me, he was sweet but it was an act, I deserved to b e paid for. both the surgery and the emergency hospital, I should have taken them to small claims court but I was so upset I could not write this review until. now. This place and his too sweet response was an act I believed he has many years of being this way but when his vet made a mistake she didn't take responsibility. He said he had to leave his wife was sick and he had to take her to the hospital (oh sympathy for him now) well if she is that sick call an ambulance. Yep everyone loves this vet but he did not take financial responsibility for his mistake and the emergency hospital notes mention. the surgery was not right. (in medical terms ) they have Mal practice I submitted it to them they said they passed it along but I never heard back they simply evaded responsibility. This man took zero responsibility my sister has Parkinson's I don't drive her to the hospital I call an ambulance! they are not expensive maybe 150.00 I spent close to 4,000 for the emergency hospital and his cocky knows it all vet student.the next vet commented on wow so any stitches he laughed! But they gave him pain meds and an exam that confirmed that he was blind in that eye and it needed to be removed. We called every other vet we could and simply didn't have enough money for surgery. We went here as a last resort because we were told he was cheap and would work with us on payments. By this time my dogs eye had been out for about 17 hours. It was dry, had hair stuck to it and was completely black/dead and non functioning. This guys plan was to just "push it back in and sew it up, and wait a week or two to see if an infection develops" despite me handing him the paper from the ER vet that clearly said he needed his eye surgically removed because it was destroyed. I was appalled. He was also very rude. He told me to "slow it down" when I was explaining what had happened. His building is dark, dirty, outdated, and overall very creepy. I would never recommend this vet to anyone. At one point, he just got up and left and never came back to talk to us despite us ringing the bell three times. He just never came back. So we left. Thank God for good friends. Because we were able to find someone that was willing to help us pay for his surgery. We went back to the southern Oregon veterinary specialty center down the road where they were able to surgically remove his eye and save his life. It was definitely not cheap. But- save yourself and your pet the stress of trying to go here simply to save some money. From the other reviews I have read this man should not even have a license to practice. I have no idea how he has any decent reviews at all. Take it from me, do NOT take your pet here if you care about their well being.

I am heartbroken and extremely disappointed with the care my dog received at Crater Animal Clinic…read more I first brought her in because she had lost interest in food. She was prescribed antibiotics, but after a week there was still no improvement. The vet then suggested IV antibiotics, followed by an ultrasound, which showed a small lesion on her liver. The recommendation was a surgical biopsy. When I asked how my dog would recover from surgery when she still wasn't eating, the response I received was simply to "force feed her." Another test was suggested (a chest X-ray), and desperate to help my dog, I agreed. After hours of waiting with no communication, I had to call myself--only to be told by a vet tech that the X-rays showed no abnormalities and the note from the vet was, "continue with what you're doing." When I arrived to pick up my dog, the first thing I was met with was a request for payment--before I was even able to speak with the vet. It became clear to me at that moment that this office prioritizes dollars over the well-being of their patients. To make matters worse, my dog was brought out soiled and clearly uncared for while in their holding kennel. The following day, a home vet came to evaluate her and immediately identified jaundice--something this vet office never mentioned. Tragically, my sweet girl did not recover, and I had to say goodbye. I am sharing this experience because I would never want another pet parent to go through what we did. Our animals deserve compassionate, thorough, and attentive care--qualities I did not see reflected here.
