Barley after his eye removal surgery

First, I will say that my dog's life was saved. And for that, I am eternally grateful. My pug Barley was hit by a truck and suffered catastrophic injuries to the right side of his face. His eyeball was out of his skull and not able to be saved. This vet is by no means affordable. And we were only able to get his surgery done because a friend of ours kindly helped us pay for his surgery. But, if you can afford it, they know what they're doing. What I do not like about this vet is the $500 deposit before they will do anything for your pet. We were told over the phone the exam fee was 250$. But after we arrived we were told they would need a 500$ deposit before they could even give him pain medication. And they have an extremely long wait time and honestly a lack of communication. The woman at the front desk was an angel and very kind. I kept having to ask her for updates on my dog because we were there for six or seven hours and we were not being told what was happening by any other staff. The building is clean and the waiting room is a pleasant place to wait. The vet did an amazing job removing Barleys eye and sent him home with plenty of antibiotics and pain medications. The part that frustrated me was that we were there most of the day waiting, and other animals were coming in constantly that were deemed more critical than my dog, yet his eyeball was literally hanging out out of his head, and he was bleeding from his opposite ear. To me that seems pretty critical. The surgery itself only took about an hour, so I do not understand why we had to wait there all day. But at the end of the day, they saved my dog's life. Veterinary care is not cheap. And I know that. But I do wish that more vets would work with people on perhaps billing payments once a month. They would get so much more business that way. We are by no means rich people. So a sudden 2,000+ dollar surgery was very difficult to maneuver. But we made it work.

I am deeply grateful to SOVSC and Dr. Russell Fugazzi for saving my dog Gus' life. Gus was experiencing some coughing that would not go away. My veterinarian, Dr. Heaslet at The Cheerful Vet suggested a chest x-ray and we learned Gus had a large mass in his chest. Dr. Heaslet made a referral request to SOVCS and I was able to get Gus into see a specialist very quickly. Gus was seen by Dr. Fugazzi on a Wednesday for a consult and CT scan. He is an excellent communicator and explained that the mass could be a tumor, a cyst or some type of irritation from inhaling a foxtail. If it was a tumor, he suggested removing the caudal lobe of Gus' lung. He spoke to me with empathy and answered all my questions knowledgeably. We had a wait for a radiologist report, but by Friday (just two days later) Gus was in surgery to have a Grade 1 Pulmonary Carcinoma removed from his left lung. Dr. Fugazzi is a skilled surgeon with years of experience. Thank goodness, because Gus' tumor was very large-- it was 2 pounds! I don't know how he was able to maneuver that tumor out of Gus' little body. The surgery went very well and, about 36 hours later, Gus was able to come home. I brought him back to the hospital one time within the first 12 hours of being home because his breathing was too rapid. Dr. Weaver saw Gus, checked his vitals and gave me options about how to proceed. She was also great--patient, smart, down to earth. The whole team: the patient coordinators, the veterinary techs, and the DVM's are all fantastic at SOVCS. I would recommend them to anyone who needed excellent, compassionate, medical care for their pet!

First night Jax was back with me in the hotel.

Arvizo was stellar in her approach with us and our kitty, who ultimately had to be put to rest.

Dr. Paulson and staff Destiny, Kendall everyone saved my little guys life today!!! She was able to go in and manually remove all fecal matter that was stuck in his guts. They took such good care of him!!! Wish I came here sooner. Even cleaned his ears for him. Kendall was able to get me in right away. Cannot thank you enough. Guys if you own cats please please keep an eye on them and give them a preventative hair ball control supplement or treat. This is serious and they can die from being severely constipated.

I went to pick her up and was guided into a room with a young women vet who without my permission did the surgery she was out of vet school 3 months. I was told the vet watched her but he said he had to leave early to take his wife to the hospital. it was illegal for him to let her do the surgery by herself. He said he watched her the entire time. THEN WHY DID HE NOT DO IT HIMSELF IF HE HAD THAT KIND OF TIME I HAD NOT GIVEN PERSMIISION FOR ANHYONE ELSE TO DO THE SUGERY. I went back again I said my cat is not well, They said she won't have to eat or drink water for three days NOT TRUE one of the vet assistance was like a mad dog ( I love dogs but this was nuts) staring me down there to protect her and agreed. At three am my cat was drinking tons of water I rushed her to emergency where the doctor said she had almost no electro lites and was trying to supply them by drinking she could not! she was on deaths door. She said did they not give her an IV this was wrong who monitored this cat? I said I don't know when I called the vet he would not refund me, he was sweet but it was an act, I deserved to b e paid for. both the surgery and the emergency hospital, I should have taken them to small claims court but I was so upset I could not write this review until. now. This place and his too sweet response was an act I believed he has many years of being this way but when his vet made a mistake she didn't take responsibility. He said he had to leave his wife was sick and he had to take her to the hospital (oh sympathy for him now) well if she is that sick call an ambulance. Yep everyone loves this vet but he did not take financial responsibility for his mistake and the emergency hospital notes mention. the surgery was not right. (in medical terms ) they have Mal practice I submitted it to them they said they passed it along but I never heard back they simply evaded responsibility. This man took zero responsibility my sister has Parkinson's I don't drive her to the hospital I call an ambulance! they are not expensive maybe 150.00 I spent close to 4,000 for the emergency hospital and his cocky knows it all vet student.the next vet commented on wow so any stitches he laughed! I assumed that because she isn't an exotic breed, the groomer would know how to do it right. But alas, I took her in the GH location, which has since closed, and I was wrong about that assumption. When I picked her up, I was appalled to see what they had done to her. Her legs were shaggy, her feet had lots of untrimmed pieces randomly sticking out, her back looked all choppy, and her topknot looks terrible. It's jagged around the back and hacked unevenly on top and in the front. But the worst part is her ears. There are clipper burns in three places on the underside, and for no good reason THEY SHAVED HER EARS. All those sweet wavy Cocker Spaniel "Lady and the Tramp" ears are shaved bare. And that part has clipper burns, also. As does her chest. The poor little thing is in pain from that, but they will eventually heal. The more lasting problem is that she is traumatized. I tried to smooth her sides out and trim that topknot so it's not so jagged, but she was terrified of the clippers and scissors, so good luck to any other groomer who even tries to give her a groom. I talked to the breeder I got her from (who is even more livid than I am.) She told me it will take 18 - 24 months for her ears to grow out again. The groomer's explanation for shaving her ears? They were "matted." Like hell they were. I have brushed them recently. Because they hang down when she drinks they do get wet, but nothing the slightest bit of conditioner couldn't ease out. For this I paid $75. So be aware. They might be fine for a dog that doesn't require shaving, but I will never ever ever take an animal back to Shannon's.
